I’ll definitely be back for another try. This try was a failure though. Messed up my burrito order. No beer glasses. No IPA’s in their beer selection. My wife’s burrito not so good. Cuban style was lacking beans too many sweet potatoes and they were undercooked. The vibe here and the aesthetics are wonderful though. I can see great potential. I’ll be back!!! Ended up really liking this place. I now frequently go to the new one near campus.

Love this place! I get the same thing every time, can’t go wrong with the Zappatista salad with chicken! Staff always super friendly and work hard to make sure your order is done correctly. Great chain expanding to Reno.

Holy YUM! I absolutely love this joint. First of all, it’s a super casual fun atmosphere with really friendly staff. Secondly, the food never disappoints! I’m in love with their juice options and their bowls(the new Harvest Bowl is my absolute favorite, I hope it stays on the menu!) and my hubby loves their mole burrito — SOGOOD! I’m new to the Reno area and a place never truly feels like home until you’ve found«your spots» in town. That could be your favorite café, restaurant, shopping boutique, etc. For me this is The Laughing Planet. Even though I don’t live in the Midtown area, I make it a point to stop in and get my fix!

Tried it out today as one of us is now gluten free. They cant guarantee it but it is closer to gluten free anywhere else, probably. So she had that bowl and I had the special, the mexican themed bowl with the optional pulled pork. Choosing the bowl instead of the burrito version turned out to be the better choice because all the ingredients could be mushed around as I pleased and it was really yummy for a omnivore like me. Lots of varied ingredients. The staff was really cool with these newbies and the clientele was very eclectic with hipsters, an elderly couple, an executive, other middle aged guys and everyone else. Another cool biz to support.

I have eaten here a couple of times. Each time I try something different. The Korean bowl is tasty and it’s made with Kim chee! This time I had the calexico bowl, a Mexican take made with red beans, pulled pork(or substitute with tofu), a bright and crunchy mix of veggies with a slightly acidic vinegar and guacamole. Another winner! I want to try the newer location at UNR.

The concept of Laughing Planet is what enticed my boyfriend and I to try it out. Extensive vegetarian menu? Awesome! Casual environment? Great! Beer & Wine? Even better! So, we checked it out & this is what we got: The service was about what you would expect at a pay-at-the-counter joint run by college students. It was friendly enough, but a bit awkward at first. We ordered at the counter, and asked for chips & salsa to start. The strange part was that they didn’t wait for us to find a place to sit before handing us our chips & salsa. It was odd because we immediately began scrambling to put our change away, plus we were trying to juggle our drinks & now our appetizer and find a place to sit all at once. It was slightly overwhelming. The food was pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good! I ordered a cup of veggie chili with all of the fixings, and the cuban burrito. Being originally from Florida, I had reservations about ordering a meatless cuban burrito(the creative fusion proposition that it is), but it was decent. My only complaint is that the sweet potatoes weren’t cooked completely, and it was missing a pickle aspect that is so ubiquitous with a cuban. Cuban aside, the chili was pretty good, but it got really cold really fast. Sigh. Overall, it seems like Laughing Planet could work on a few things, but I still think it’s worth checking out. I would recommend coming here for a nice lunch break, or a quick fix dinner.

Great atmosphere and a simplistic yet colorful and creative design. The people were nice and had a good variety of options in the menu. Prices are at a good rate. Burritos were good with addition of spinach. Lemonade was a bit tart but it’s okay. :) For those trying to go there, keep in mind they’re doing construction so parking will be a bit difficult.

«Meow?» I questioned as our group wandered into a place of some very strange décor. The first impression of this place was crazy for this cat. Super clean on one hand, music posters and memorabilia, dinosaurs on the tables, what the purr? Looking over the menu, I was happy to see lots of very healthy and light choices which is perfect for me. Lots of interesting and unique options that are for sure to suit anyone it seemed! I decided to for Spankys bowl, which from the sounds of it seemed basic and light. Service, fast! Our food came out quickly and I was treated to my bowl. For being so basic, I have to say I really enjoyed how this bowl tasted! Simple, tasty, filling, and low price, all sums up to a nice meal for me! Laughing planet does have you put away your own dishes I should note, which is not a problem since I feel their food made that quick trip to the dish trays worth it. Definitely a unique and quirky restaurant that I think everyone should try if they can! *chirp!*

One of the few places I wouldn’t hesitate to give a full 5-stars to. Laughing Planet really has it together: wonderfully varied, super flavorful, not-too-pricey, great location, AND good for you! I probably have a bowl from here 2−3x a month, and have never been disappointed. The plethora of veggies that accompanies all of their offerings is really what sets them apart from other eateries, plus their ability to offer such bright, punchy flavors. The Bollywood bowl is my longtime standby, but I would say 50% of the time I get whatever the special is… They always have something new, different, and delicious. The counter-serve model helps keep things super casual, and they also have cute little touches inside. Who doesn’t want to play with plastic dinosaurs while they eat burritos! Nobody I want to be friends with! The only downside here is that everyone knows how awesome it is, so there can be a pretty beast line sometimes. I usually order ahead to beat the line, but then you miss out on knowing what the amazing specials are!

This is a great place for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Located just off of Virginia Street in mid-town. Have been here a couple times and enjoyed the food immensely. I love that it is a healthy choice and does not leave me feeling empty or unsatisfied. Lots of great flavor in their food.

I’m always skeptical when friends suggest healthy food. It’s not that I don’t like to eat healthy, I just don’t like the way that most health food restaurants force me to consume so many vegetables and so much tofu without a delicious piece of chicken in sight. Maybe I want to have a beer with lunch instead of kombucha! The nice thing about Laughing Planet is that it’s a place you can eat healthfully, but they don’t force you into dietary choices – everything from tofu to tempeh to that delightful grilled chicken breast is still an option. I had the Bollywood bowl with chicken, which was amazing. Filling, delicious, and the portion was just perfect for lunch. There was a nice amount of heat in the sauce provided, just enough to give you that tingle that you’re looking for. The rice was well cooked, and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. It’s not full-service, you order at the counter and then they bring your food to you, and in the middle of the day(Saturday), it was pretty busy. But, if you’re waiting for your food, you can always re-enact Jurassic Park with the plastic dinosaurs on your table.

In Reno for a long weekend to hit the slopes of Mt. Rose and Sierra-at-Tahoe to take advantage of this el nino year as much as I can. I wasn’t expecting a plethora of choices but I was surprised to see a highly rated«vegetarian» spot and $ to boot. I was disappointed only in that I was expecting a truly vegetarian place and the price seemed more than $ for the portion. The first thing I noticed was meat on the menu since it says vegetarian on their profile. After looking over their menu its basically vegetarian with meat options as oppose to the other way around? I got the seasonal bi-bim-bap because I love Korean food but for the price, I feel like I didn’t get enough for my money. I was actually still hungry after. It was decent. Kimchi was kinda sweet or something else in the dish was sweet that threw me off but still good. We also tried the hole mole burrito, good but small portion compared to what were used to in the city. I almost wished we had ordered sides/appetizers. Food was A-OK with chill atmosphere. How can you resist but let your inner child out with dinosaurs on the table and art wall.

We were driving through the city of Reno en route to San Francisco, and my vegan friend needed some eats. This place popped up, and despite the seemingly strange neighborhood, this place was amazing from the second I stepped in the door. There was a line, but it was moving quickly. The menu presents many options for all appetites, and all diets. The prices were moderate especially for somewhere offering so many vegetables, which many restaurants lack. I got a thai bowl, and a highway to kale salad. This was too much food for me, but leftovers are dope so whatev. If I ever find myself in the worlds biggest little city again, I’ll def stop by these digs.

Four words: Ginger beer on tap. AND it’s not the weak ish. It’s spicy-make-you-wanna-sneeze-goodness(oh, is that just me??). Also, I’m obsessed with their cheese and pico de gallo quesadillas. I know I can make those at home, pretty easy like, but I like when someone else makes my food. Along with my quesadilla, I got butternut squash and corn soup. It was pretty good. It could have used some salt, but I guess that defeats the purpose of eating healthy. I’d try it again, though. The thing I like the most about Laughing Planet is how nice everyone I’ve encountered is. I’m not a hipster-hippie hybrid(despite what some of my jerk friends seem to want to believe, since I’m a Midtowner), so you never know how you will be received at these kinds of places. I’m pleased to announce, all kinds are welcome here.

Smack down in the heat of Midtown is a gem hidden in the haystack. I say hidden because finding it is almost reminiscent of a scavenger hunt. Finding it is actually exciting, and once you arrive on Tahoe street and see the green planet sign you’ll know you’ve found it! The front patio is impressive even in winter, seeing it’s summer time potential is making me even more excited for summer to return! My hubby and I walked in and thanks to Unilocal,we knew it was a counter ordering place therefore we grabbed a menu and sat down to examine it. They have«Zappetizers» like chips and salsa, quesadillas, smoothies and gluten free cookies too but my attention was on the bowls! They offer a weekly bowl, a seasonal bowl and then their normal menu. I opted for the Paleo bowl with the pulled pork from their weekly special, potato and leek soup that came with tortilla chips, a Snickerdoodle cookie and an Arnold Palmer. My hubby ordered the weekly Santa Fe special and a fountain soda which ended up being real cane sugar soda. We were given our drinks and cookie at the counter and hurried to an empty table with a dinosaur on it! Mike G knows the names of the Dino’s…I had no clue lol. Our food shortly came and the smell hit us before I could even see it! I smelled the garlic instantly, followed by pork… wow… This bowl was full of sautéed kale, garlic green beans, grilled seasonal veggies, and a heap of braised pulled pork topped their«Killer Green sauce» …WOW… Did I say that already? The best part about it was knowing I was eating my veggies, and loving every minute of it! All the veggies played so nicely together and the pork on top was flavorful and tender. The sauce a bit spicy and I can’t say enough either about their soup! Hubby and I shared that and the cookie too which was soft and delicious. After eating we placed our own dishes in their«clearly marked buss tub area.» I love that they recycle. The atmosphere, service and food together made this literally a perfect 5 star and I’m actually excited to go back.

My first experience at the Laughing Planet Café was a five-star one. First off, I absolutely love the vibe. It’s light, open, and there are tons of little knick knacks to look at. There are even little Dr. Seuss figurines set-up in displays. Overall, the place has a crazy cute and unique feel to it. After reading everyone’s reviews, I decided to order the Thai Bowl. I’m so glad I did. It had all of the greens and veggies needed to make me feel healthy and, let’s face it, good about myself. But then the brown rice and the nutty dressing(sauce?) gave the salad a more savory taste, which of course had me feeling full and not as if I were eating — well, plants. The salad was proportioned well; not too many veggies, not too much sauce, the right amount of rice. In the words of Goldilocks, «Everything was just right.» This is also a great place to hangout, chat, even work. Me and the other two members of the Amazing Unilocal Crew had our weekly lunch meeting here, and it worked out perfectly. The tables are large, so there’s enough room for your laptop or notebook(or both), and of course your food. And they have wifi — you just need to ask for the password. I didn’t get to talk much with any of the staff, but the service was prompt and cheerful. No complaints on that front. Actually, I have no complaints about this place at all! I’m looking forward to coming here again. They have so many bowls and salads to choose from, and I can’t wait to try each one! Happy feasting!

Husband and I wanted to try out a new healthy and local place so we brought up our trusty Unilocal app and browsed which restaurants are by our daughters school. And this was one of the places. So I picked up my daughter and then we headed over and across the street and here we were. We pre looked at the menu and kind of already knew what we wanted. The parking was 4 spots in front 2 handicapped and then street parking. I walked in and was greeted with a very friendly Hello. He asked if I was ready and offered me a menu. I told him I already looked at a menu and asked him a few questions and he answered in a very happy way. Lol. We ordered the Korean BBQ bowl and I got the tofu instead of the beef and the tofu was very tasty. The sauce was spicy with a hint of ginger. I don’t like ginger that much but that’s ok. My husband got the Bollywood bowl and the flavors are very tasty! The coconut curry sauce was tasty but not spicy like it said it would be. We ended up trading because of the ginger in my dish. They should really put down if there will be ginger present in a dish. Not just at this restaurant but all restaurants. Ginger, horseradish, wasabi those are just very very strong spicy flavors that people should know that it’s going to be in their food. My daughter got the trifecta. So adorable. They came in their own separate containers. And she loved every one of them. We got her the black beans, broccoli and quinoa and added tofu. She loved all of it. Yes I can cook this at home but for the price super healthy and easy. They cooked everything so perfectly that it made it fun for her to eat. The broccoli was perfectly cooked the quinoa had a nice chicken broth flavor to it. And even the black beans had a nice flavor to it. We got the kimchi quesadilla also and it was surprisingly tasty. The kimchi daikon was pretty good. A little spicy a little crunchy and full of flavor. Not recommended to get Togo because the quesadilla gets soggy. Unfortunately that’s going to happen anywhere. All in all I am definitely coming back and trying other stuff and you feel great after you eat it. Which I love!

Located in Mid-town Reno, this place is a health food refuge offering plenty of tasty vegan, vegetarian, and healthy carnivorous dishes ranging from soups, burritos, and salad/grain bowls. I was pretty impressed with the Holy Mole burrito. Quite delish especially when sauteed kale is added to it. The interior is cool with plenty of goofy things to look at including an array of toy dinosaurs on each table. If you look around, you’ll see interesting Frank Zappa art and other bizarre art like an obese Ronald McDonald doll with a money sign bling necklace. Staff here are very friendly and the food gets to you quickly. You’ll always leave here feeling healthy inside. Be sure to try the soups as they are very good here.
