I went to Los Compadres on South Virginia with a great deal of trepidation. I have only had one experience with this restaurant and it was the Sparks location. It scarred me for life and I was afraid to give this place a shot. The layout of the place is not bad. It’s kind of small but definitely has the feel of a Mexican restaurant. I went with my mother and grandfather. We were seated right away and our drink order was taken very quickly. Grandpa got the taco salad, mom got a burrito and I stuck with the super amazing and cheap lunch menu. For $ 5.99 I got a cheese enchilada surrounded by rice and beans and pure happiness. Service was fast, the food was amazing and our drinks were never empty. Los Compadres is a sure bet for a great tasting lunch in the area. I’m glad I tried them out and I’ll be back.

So I had a chance to get take out here. Service was really good. No wait. Order delivered as promise. Chip and Salsa were good, although the salsa could use a little spice but the flavor was good. Our dishes, shrimp with garlic, grilled fish, and beef fajitas were just ok. They didn’t stand out. Actually I lied, the grilled fish didn’t seem like it was grilled and it tasted fishy. That stood out.

Wife and I both love good Mexican and other Spanish dishes. Coming from years in miami, we are very partial to cuban. Los compadres has that neighborhood feel to it like calle ocho. The food here is very good and they price their dishes well. Nice bar and the beer is the coldest drafts in town. Great friendly staff who remember you.

It was Nevada graduation weekend and everywhere we tried calling had extra long wait times. We decided to give Los Compadres a try and were pleasantly surprised by their large restaurant with plenty of seating. We were taken to our table immediately and could not believe the level of customer service we received throughout our meal. We were check on constantly, by multiple different staff members including the manager, with excitement and efficiency. This is probably the most pampered I’ve felt at a restaurant in a very long time. We ordered the cheese enchilada combo, a tostada, and a taco combo. I wasn’t in love with the enchilada sauce, but everything else was great and all three of our items were of surprisingly large portion size. If you like the well blended restaurant style salsa this is your place! The baskets of chips just kept coming, we loved it! Prices were competitive and the menu had plenty of choices. I will definitely be returning and trying something new off the menu!

This is some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. We went twice in 2016 and had a good experience both times. We had a pretty large party and the orders were diverse; everybody enjoyed their meal. My wife and I ordered quesadillas– the carnitas quesadilla for her, the steak quesadilla for me. Both were amazing! Filling, not greasy, and delicious. What was surprising was how good the included beans and rice were. We will be stopping by whenever we are in the area!

Normally I am pleased with Los Compadres but the recent times I have gone have been terrible, especially when I went to this one. The service just wasn’t there. I’m sorry but if I’m paying 3 bucks for a drink I would like to have at least one refill. The waiter didn’t even bring us our check so we went to the front counter and they all told us to «have a nice day». The ultimate test for my boyfriend and I, do we just leave or do the«right» thing and tell them we still need to pay. Of course we paid but I tipped the bus boy who was a lot more helpful than our waiter… The food was good and quick as usual, just wish we got better service.

This is one our favorite Mexican restaurants. Food is great, Margarita’s age great and people are very friendly. It can get crowded on Fridays and Saturdays but worth the wait.

This is probably the worst Mexican food I have ever had. As a Mexican food lover, I understand my taste might be a bit sophisticated, but all I ask for is authentic Mexican food, of good quality, and great taste. The chips were terrible, salsa had absolutely no heat, and chimichanga was sooo bad I couldn’t finish! I was very sad and disappointed with my visit after seeing the good reviews here on Unilocal.Service was okay, but also not that great. Too bad, they are super close to home, but I will not be coming back!

I’ve been on the fence about trying Los Compadres. I’ve heard good things, I’ve heard bad things, but I guess the only way to know for sure is to try them yourself. We were craving Mexican food and decided to stray from our usual, close to home spot to try out Los Compadres. They were not very busy at all(it was a Wednesday night, so I wasn’t too surprised about this). Margarita orders were taken right away and delivered quickly. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse… I went outside of my typical orders and decided on a combination plate with a chile relleno and a tamale, this comes with rice and beans as well. This is plenty of food! I was stuffed for dinner and had enough to be stuffed for lunch the next day. I wished that the combo plate came with sour cream and guacamole, but luckily was able to steal it off of my boyfriend’s chimichanga. The chile relleno was WAY over-battered/egged. It was practically an omelet with a little bit of pepper and cheese in it. The egg was overcooked and there was just too much of it to be enjoyable. The tamale was good and a decent size(have you noticed how small some places tamales are?) The rice and beans were pretty typical and lacked anything standout-ish. Usually when we go out to eat, my boyfriend admits that I made the better entrée choice. However, this night I felt like I made the wrong one. The shredded beef in his chimichanga was really flavorful where I just kind of felt underwhelmed by my meal. I think that Los Compadres is just«ok». I’m not going to be running back anytime soon, but if someone made the suggestion to go there, I wouldn’t refuse(I would definitely order something different though).

My wife and I have been to this restaurant 7 times over the past few months and every time we have excellent service. Last night we had 4 different people keeping us stocked up on chips and salsa and two different people kept the drink refills coming. Seems like everyone helps everyone when it comes to service. I was so impressed I asked for the manager to compliment them. And the food is the best I have found when it comes to Mexican food. I must admit I always order the Steak Fajita Burritos and I love them! Great place to go for a date night or other occasion.

Had little issue with pricing. But manager handle issue right away and explained pricing. Just in case you don’t know. This is a LOCALLYOWNEDRESTAURANT. Do support you local businesses. And this one’s worth support. Food great service great.

2 years later… same great bar service and good food. Some of the best hot salsa in town even if you do need to special request it. Favorites include: fajitas burrito, green chili bean dip, Mexican tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. Favorite bar tenders: Carlos, Marco, and of course Rafa himself. Great vibe on most nights.

First of all, I don’t get how kids running around a restaurant is in ANY way the fault of any employee! Yes, I can see how it can affect your meal, but putting that on the employees because they are«family friendly» is crazy! Maybe the parents don’t get out much and are tired of Chuck E Cheese and want real food! Show them some grace, be thankful it’s not your kids acting like that, and get on with life! That being said, we loved this place the first two times we went, but the third time was so exceptional that I felt like I needed to write a review! We are studying Mexico this week and decided that it would be fun to take our kids here to grab a quick dessert to tie it into our lesson. We got one of each of the desserts: fried ice cream, sopapillas and flan. All of them were excellent, we especially loved the sopapillas with butter and honey added to them at the suggestion of our fantastic server. Everyone who we dealt with was extremely friendly, service was fairly fast, and they went beyond what we expected. My in-laws are from England and had only been to one other Mexican restaurant in the 5.5 years they have lived in Reno because they were nervous about trying Mexican food. They went with us to Los Compadres tonight and both said that based on the food and service, they WOULD be back and WOULD be bringing their many visitors from England because it was such a great experience. Thanks Los Compadres for a wonderful evening and an experience that will not soon be forgotten!

Ok! I usually love this place, but after seeing two«parents» not parenting their little monsters,(again) letting them run all over the place I have lost all respect for it. The food is good, but after watching the staff encourage this insane behavior I think I am done. They say this is a family place, which I’m cool with, but does that mean parents bring your kids to thrash the place while you try and eat in peace and the rest of the customers look on in horror? Sorry that’s what chuck e cheese is for! Way to go parents!

Dinner with friends after grabbing a beer at a near by place. We were promptly served chips and salsa and I ordered a small side of guacamole. The guacamole had a bit oniony but overall pretty tasty. Tonight I ordered a cheese enchilada serviced with rice and beans. Our meals arrived very quickly and the food was good. If in the area and feeling the need for Mexican will definitely stop in again.

Danielle and I decided we wanted Mexican food so we decided to try Los Compadres in south Reno. The night we went to this restaurant it was not very busy and the atmosphere seemed very relaxed. We put our name in and the hostess asked us to wait a couple minutes for a clean table. We sat down in the waiting area and she took off. About 15 minutes went by and there was no hostess. We lost track of time from the conversation we were having. She eventually comeback after about 20 minutes. To sum up the entire experience at Los Compadres it was average and nothing special. We will probably go back another time and try our luck. Maybe the restaurant was just having a bad or off night. We all have them and it’s always worth giving it another try.

After a day of workouts(3 to be exact), dinner was crucial. My brother came to my class and I told him I’ll buy him dinner because of this. We ended up at Los Compadres since it was near the gym and we were starving. We stepped in around 7:45pm, got seated right away. The place was not too busy, and there were plenty of servers and hostesses around. So, right away I knew this was going to be a quick dinner, which is exactly what I wanted, because along with being starving, I was also exhausted. Chips and Salsa came out as soon as we got seated which the brother and I demolished. But we never got a new bowl, and we weren’t asked either. Oh well, I guess, it was better that way anyways, cuz if we had eaten another bowl, I probably wouldn’t have enough room for the actual dinner. We both ordered the Carne Asada which came with rice and beans and tortillas. I love carne asada but I get so picky about the meat. I like it tender and flavorful and honestly, I haven’t had a carne asada here in town that I love.(So if you have any suggestions, please let me know) Our dishes came out fairly quick. At first glance, plate looks on point. But the carne asada was not to my expectations. Maybe, my expectations are just too high. Sigh. Not only that, the meat was not tender, it was chewy and it lacked flavor. I squeezed a whole lot of lime on that meat to add that extra acidity that I was looking for. But the 3 stars is mainly because of the service. There were a lot of people working but most of the the server’s attention was locked into the television and not so much on us. I had to asked for water refill even though our server had walked back and forth our table multiple times. We had to asked for our check since our server looked like he had other things he wanted to do. It took another 5 minutes for the server to grab our payment and probably another 5 minutes to get our check back. It felt like I lost 30 minutes of my life just waiting. Keep in mind that I was also exhausted. I’m sure I’ll be back, maybe next time I’ll try something else. And maybe we’ll get a different server. It’s hard to go wrong at a Mexican restaurant but the service and be everything. I’m hoping the next time I come, it will be a better experience.

I’ve been here twice now and as the rating states… Meh, I’ve had better. I want to like it as the location is close to work. However, I don’t see the draw. The food is okay, your typical Americanized Mexican food. Nothing is great, except the margarita’s from what I hear. To me, the lunch seemed over-priced and lacking seasoning. This isn’t an authentic Mexican joint to say the least. The portions are large and the parking is easy. Just wasn’t my cup of tea and I’ll go elsewhere next time.

November 6, 2014 Thursday — 11:15AM lunch 2 adults Atmosphere — 4 stars Food — 4 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Chris M. was working the south side of town this week and asked if I wanted to go to lunch with her. Atmosphere — The restaurant is located inside a newer strip mall, so everything is good shape. I know this saves them money, but having advertisements on their table tops is just too much. Food Drink — Just water. My Meal App — The standard free bowl of chips, light and crispy. Two types of salsa, choices are always good. Main Course — Great lunch specials with a special menu. I had the #5 Enchilada with comes with rice and beans. The menu list two proteins chicken or beef, I had the beef which is then broken down to shredded or ground. I had the shredded. The enchilada was simple and filling. The rice was a little too dry for my taste. Service — I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Our waiter was pleasant. The food came in a timely manner as the lunch crowd was just building. Future — I could see coming back for drinks even, the bar area was good sized.
