I’m biased when it comes to this review. Yes, me, I really am. Why? I work here! I wish that this place was opened when I was going to school here, but noooooo. When I had to go to the library, it was the musty smelling stacks of Getchell for me. Did Getchell have a place to get coffee and a bite to eat? No! Did Getchell have MARS to fetch books that I would need? No! But, Getchell did have asbestos! — — — — — — — — — — — — — - The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center is a state of the art building located next to the Joe, not far from the Lawlor events center and a quick jaunt from the Whalen parking garage. It has a beautiful grass covered quad in front of it and it’s back parking area has metered and permit parking which abuts Evans St. The building has 5 floors, cable pulled elevators for expediency and reliability. For those who want to feel the burn, stairs are provided! The 5th floor is the quiet study area. And, yes, it is enforced! The 1st floor is a huge technology floor. Filled with computers, media lab, technology check out, video library and if you like/need, they also have some Macs for you to work with. This large building has study rooms and meeting rooms that can be reserved utilizing a web based reservation system or simply ask someone at the front desk on the second floor. There is even a large(Wells Fargo Room — First floor) auditorium that can hold over 100 people. Complete with audio, video and two large drop down screens! I’ve been working here for several years and I say that if I have to work in a cube farm, this is the place I’d rather be. From a student’s perspective, this blows Getchell out of the water. If you’re a student here, reading this, make good use of the Knowledge Center. There are quiet study areas, which for me would have been wonderful! I used to drive out to Lockwood for a quiet place to study!!! Would I come back hear? Heck ya, my paycheck depends on it! And, it’s a nice building with great resources for students and faculty!
