This is a 1950’s restaurant with 1950’s food, 1950’s décor, and 1950’s Old Reno patrons. I doubt it’s been remodeled in all that time. It certainly hasn’t been in the 25 years that I’ve been going there, about once a month. The daily specials are usually the best choice. This isn’t haute cuisine, it’s ‘50s comfort food, O. K and filling. Some days are better than others. Some food items are better than others. The French fries are among the best to be found in Reno.

I have been coming to Simmons for 10+ years. This restaurant has a definite«old Reno» feel. I typically order the peppercorn steak or the lamb chops as a go to. Everything about this restaurant is great! The service is very friendly and are typically on top of the tables clearing the empty plates, refilling drinks, and asking occasional questions to keep the commentary going during your entire meal. For how old the restaurant is the environment is kept very clean. I give this spot a 5 star review! Go and try it out at least one time.

We had the worst experience here. We booked a party and none of our pre requested requests were honored. We asked for a set number of tables and chairs to be set up. They weren’t. Not only that but the manager Sloane said that we could quote«go f%$@» ourselves when we asked them to add more. They didn’t have enough food for us and the food we did get was really bad. This place was unprofessional and a complete disaster for us. Avoid at all costs!

Worst food ever! I rarely write reviews after only one visit but this is going to be the exception. Went on a Monday night. We were the only customers in the dining area but there were some people at the bar. Ordered the King Crab dinner with twice stuffed potato and salad and the Veal Piccata with a French Onion Soup. The soup and salad came out first. Salad was fine. Onion soup was tasty and it is probably the only reason I am giving this place 2 stars. I wish it was served in a carved out onion but otherwise good flavor. King crab was absolutely atrocious! It tasted like something that had been in the freezer for 100 years. Porous and no flavor! Seriously tasted and looked like styrofoam! I can’t say how horrible it was! The veal piccata was almost as bad. Generic starchy sauce with no flavor and the veal tasted old and could have been pork or chicken because honestly there was just no flavor. Also tasted frozen and extremely poor quality! Ughhhh we did not even finish half our meals. We were not planning on saying anything but it was just so awful that we had to. They took $ 20 off our bill but the crab was $ 27 and we didn’t eat more than a small bite so I feel they should have taken that off completely. The waitress was nice and she seemed to know the food was awful. I am tempted to give 1 star! Will NEVER go back unless under full new ownership and management and name. Basically I will never go back. Atmosphere was old fashioned and odd.

We love coming here for drinks and the smoked salmon appetizer! The food is old school and not my cup of tea for the most part. Randy, Tony and Christina are incredibly friendly bartenders! It’s like«Cheers» in Reno, although it definitely caters to an older crowd. Young people are more than welcome and accepted! Old school Reno in here!

Today I went to Simon’s with my very hungry brother, after running errands. I ordered the Beef Barley Vegetable soup and house salad. He got the special of the day… Open faced Meatloaf sandwich. My demerits of stars are for two things: 1) not one scrap of beef in the soup… None, and when told waitress, all she said was sorry. OK, maybe 2) my House Salad had one coin of cuke… one. and 1⁄8 of a tomato wedge. nothing, nothing else, not even crackers or onion or olive or nothing. Brother liked it fine, but set me back $ 30, and I drank water(filled once upon request)

Neighborhood bar and grill! Family owned and neighborhood driven. One just needs to walk in the doors and see locals hanging around at all hours to instantly feel comfortable. Ask anyone at the bar what to eat and they will all have their favorites! The burgers are filling the pasta is aldente with plenty of sauce. The bartenders pour a good drink and all the tvs have sports on them.

Went in for the Sunday Brunch. Ahem. very ordinary food. Nothing brunchy about it. Very mundane menu. We were the only patrons in the Café side of the business. Were given menus and coffee from the busboy, whom was the best part of our experience. Good job keeping our glasses and cups full. However, the waitress did not realize we were there until another group of 4 men showed up. She finally took our order, Sausage and eggs om, sourdough toast for moi, and Corned beef hash(cooked well) ‘n eggs scrambled, sourdough toast for bro. It took for ever for the food to get to us, keeping in mind we were the only people in there. what the heck? It arrives, corned beef just barely warmed. so it was returned. Then they had to bring the eggs again too as the corned beef hash came back alone. We both remarked that my hashbrowns were cremated. So, I assume the cook read the orders wrong. My om eggs were hard. And, breakfast was served with 1 piece of toast each. Décor looks like a spinster aunt’s dining room. Won’t go back.

Been here twice for drinks and liked the place. Decided to try dinner and boy, was that a mistake. Over-priced to start with, but figured we would give it a shot. First thing was the«house» dressing for the salad, which tasted just… awful. I can’t even come up with an analogy. I had the grilled liver and onions, my date had the broiled chicken. Both were decent; nothing to rave about but not the worst I have had. Or so I thought. About 4 hours later I was up sick, and so was my girlfriend. We were both sick for the rest of the night. The only common denominators between both of our meals was the salad and the twice-baked potato. Somewhere in there, something was far from good. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because its a decent place to go for a drink after work, especially if you live in the neighborhood. But I won’t eat here again, and don’t suggest seeking it out for food.

Best pour in N. Nevada, could be in all of Nevada, heck the nation. Bartenders have been there for years, all good-natured and friendly. Christina, Randy, Tony and Sloan take good care of bar patrons. JR who is behind the bar on Saturdays tries real hard. The food is surprisingly good, fresh made everyday, I have never been disappointed in the tacos, seafood salads, chicken fingers, zucchini sticks or calamari. I wasn’t impressed by the frog legs they have on special every Friday. The more you go, the more you’ll love this place. Also, if you enjoy playing domino’s there is usually a game you can get in on everyday between 2 and 4pm.

This is from a bar patron’s perspective, rather than a diner’s. Friendly bartenders, inexpensive drinks, and a neighborhood bar atmosphere. If you’re a gambler, I suppose the fact that drinks aren’t comped might be off-putting, given the fact that most local bars do so. But if you’d rather just sit with friends and have an inexpensive, strong cocktail, this is your place.
