Unfortunately, The Firkin & Wolf is now closed. I arrived early for a large business lunch I had planned there fully expecting a nice quiet lunch. No sign on the door. No notice to the media and patrons. I guess I should have checked their website first which does say they’re closed, but who does that??? BJs was able to accomodate my party of 8 that day.

Went here with family and friends on a late afternoon meal. I must say that service was a big issue here. 1. The lack of bangers for the most popular dish was horrible. If you do not have product, it should be known or posted before we make the order. We were not informed ahead of time. 2. Food took forever to get on table. I would like to blame it on the chicken pot pie, but not the case. The last order to come out was the chicken quesadilla. 3. The mac and cheese looked more like Alfredo. My friend noticed the difference since it was ordered by her before. The Restaurant was well kept. Not adding this to a place I would go back to though.

Full disclosure: After my last experience at Firkin, which was a fair experience, I wrote a review and was shocked and pleasantly surprised to hear personally from the owner, Jim. He felt bad about the service we received and wanted to buy us dinner on him. My family would have been reluctant to go back; however, this was an offer we couldn’t refuse. So, on an evening in April my family: Dad, Stepmom, Sister, Brother-in-law, three kids and I ventured back to Firkin. Service: 5 stars. It was top notch, attentive, and we were definitely looked after. Food: 4 stars. Everything was delicious. My personal favorites are still a) their traditional nachos b) the fish and chips, c) the chicken pot pie. This was our last family dinner together before I returned to San Diego, but I’ll definitely request Firkin the next time I’m up in Reno. My family has been back two times since I left. I would definitely recommend them and can say that the owner, Jim, personally cares about the experience his customer have. Thanks, Jim!

Good as it gets for pub grub. We ate very late, so we had no trouble being seated in a very comfy red velvet booth. The margaritas were awesome, the food was served hot, and our server Heather was exceptional! Apparently, they have a party room which is provided for free for parties, meetings, etc. I ordered a turkey sandwich which was delicious. I have to say it is a much better alternative to BJ’s, which is located in the same complex. I would bring the family, too, as it is well suited for the whole clan. Cheers… Go Chelsea!

So the wife and I went for dinner, thought we would try something different. I expected more I guess. There was no beer/drink menu at the table and only a few beers listed in the food menu. When I asked for one it seemed as if there were only 2 in the whole place and I was asking for something out of the ordinary. What really threw me off was that the waitress didn’t try to sell us any alcoholic beverages and we’re both well into our 30’s. They did have High Sierra selections from Carson which were good. However the service was to be desired. The Irish Nachos came out dry and should have had more sour cream and definitely could have used more than a sprinkle of bacon. Their chicken strips appeared to be handbreaded and were tasty but the server didn’t even offer ketchup for the fries, which I found odd. So I ended up eating dry fries as she didn’t come back around for what felt like 10 minutes. I’m considering giving them another chance but like others have mentioned about the place not being that crowded, there is probably a reason. On a positive note for the kids, the place seems to be family friendly as they have a kids eat free night. It was an aggrevation for me as the kids at the 2 tables next to us had been using the tables/chairs as jungle gyms and were testing my patience.

Just had dinner there with family this evening. The third time I have eaten there and the third time I have been disappointed in my own personal meal. I didn’t care for their Jambalaya the first time. Don’t remember what the second meal I had was, but I know I was disappointed. This round was their Guiness steak and mushroom pie. Not good! Way too sweet for my taste. The sides they offer on the other hand are delicious. Their sweet potatoe fries are excellent, as are their cajun chips. Beer selection is good, but not much better than other restaurants in Summit mall. Overall, probably won’t be visiting unless for a light lunch with basic fair.

Yet another review of the Firkin from me? Yep. Cause now they have«All-You-Can-Eat» Wings. So now I gotta give them a review. for $ 9.95 you can order until your belly pops. They have 18 different wing flavors. The Pineapple Curry is my wife’s favorite. I love the traditional hot. And my son eats them all with the same wild abandon. They come out 7 to a flavor and they serve them 5 wings at a time. It’s a little higher on the work for your waitress so you might wanna take that into consideration when you tip. If you get there before 7 you can also get some pretty killer Happy Hour specials to marry up with this. I’m looking forward to my next wing night. I wouldn’t even consider going to Buffalo wild wings on a Tuesday or Thursday night, But one thing to remember if you are reading this review. The special may be done and over so check the website before you head down and get all pissy that they don’t have it anymore. Happy Hour 2 – 7PM $ 1.99 Domestic and House Beers $ 1 off other Drinks.

Ok. So my Bf and I and my mom and some of her friends had been shopping and then chose to try out this place since none of us had ever tried it. Keep in mind this was a wednesday night around seven. There was seven of us. So we ordered only our drinks, which took a while. So then we ordered our food. The place was maybe like one fifth full. Needless to say it took an hour to get our food. When the food came some of our orders were wrong. Like we ordered the sweet potato fries as the side(which cost us an extra 1.95… Even though we were never told there was an extra charge just to get sweet potato fries instead of french fries). The mgr at about the fourty five minute wait and didnt even cone to our table but just stayed by the door to the backroom and said our food woukd be coming out. The same mgr came out with our food. And I must say… The food was pretty good. But like I ordered a mushroom swiss hamburger and asked to add bacon. The bacon cost me an extra 90cents and then as I noted earlier they charged me an extra 1.95 to get sweet potato fries. So my simple hamburger came out to 14.00. So the food was decent but for a fourteen dollar hamburger and water. I would have prefered to eat sonething else. My Bf ordered a sandwich which stated in the description as a panini. When his sandwich came out it was two pieces of white bread toasted with an overload of butter. Which he is not of fan of… Butter on. Sandwich bread. When we asked the mgr about the panini part… He says that is their panini bread and thats how they make there paninis. Also a few minutes after we got our food the mgr came back and asked us if it was worth the wait. Which again shows how much he needs to improve on his management skills. Kind of a rude comment. Who would want to wait over an hour to eat. Everytime we would make a comment like we waited over an hour for our food he juet laughed and walked away. Poor management. So for the wait they did give us one desert to share between seven of us but then all the extra fees sucked. We had bad service. It was obvious the mgr needs to work on his people skills and then to top it off for our party of seven they charged us with an 18% gratuity… which was not deserved… Really. 18% for seven people. So two stars for the food taste. But no stars for the high prices and the bad service and the mgr. Also as I said earlier we arrived a little before seven and didnt leave till a little before nine because of the lack of service.

Wandered in here while waiting for Lenscrafters to finish my glasses. Since I didn’t HAVE my glasses, wifey had to read the menu for me. Ha. Worked out fine though. We sampled a couple of their on-tap beers, and liked them. We had some sort of appetizer plate that slips my memory now, but it was great stuff. I’d go back in a heartbeat. We liked the ambiance here. Lively and active. In other words, people having fun. Next time we’re at Lenscrafters, we’ll be back.

June 25, 2011 Saturday — dinner 6:15PM 2 adults and a teenager Atmosphere — 5 stars Food — 5 stars Service — 4 stars Background — We arrived after a day at Virginia City. Atmosphere — I think this is the third restaurant in this location. Hopefully this one will stay. It has a small bar to the right when you walk in. The kitchen is open with their staging area along the walking path of the guest. Food Appetizer — none Main Course — I went with the roast beef dip. This had to be one the best ones I have had in years. The baguette was fresh and soft in the inside with a nice crust. The meat was nice and tender. There was Colemans mustard which I never had it was nice dip for the fries, the mustard was spicy and had that nasal sinus type burn. Dessert — skipped it Service — I was the only one that ordered a bar drink. But I should not have to remind my waiter multiple times for it. Other than that he did a fine job. They use a food server to help out the wait staff.

The hub and I stopped at Firkin & Wolf for a light bite. It was around 8:30 so a bit late for a full-on dinner adventure. I really want to like it. The idea of an English pub in Reno is awesome! I went to the Firkin & Fox a number of times in Carson, but it’s a smallish place and their food never really impressed me. Still, I enjoy the atmosphere. So, at the Wolf, we ordered the Baby Spinach Salad and the Cajun Crispers. The salad had goat cheese(yum!), dried cranberries, pine nuts, diced tomatoes, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was supposed to have bacon, but I ordered it without. The dressing was a bit tart, I like my balsamic dressings to be a bit on the sweet side without a super sour after taste. It’s a personal thing, though. The balance of ingredients was very nice! The spinach leaves were a bit big to be considered baby spinach, but I like spinach no matter how mature… The crispers were very good too! Good spice to them. The dipping sauce is a creamy dill sauce. It was a great contrast to the hot(temp) and spicy chip-like slices of potatoes. I’d totally recommend the dishes we had. They were perfect portions for what I was craving and I even shared with the hubby! Oh, I must mention the beer. We ordered a couple snake bites(½ Guinness and ½ Strongbow Cider) and the bartender did a good job with the pour! Awesome. They have many beers on tap and I am looking forward to trying more of them. Service was decent, timely, and the food was very acceptable.

Good things first. .. we had a work lunch here, and they were very accommodating. We were able to come up with our orders ahead of time(using their online menu), send it in, and have our food ready when we showed up. Place is large, and they easily fit our group of about a dozen. The food on the other hand was a bit of a conundrum. Let me start off by saying that I’m a curry aficionado — whether it be Indian, Thai, Japanese, etc, I like good curry. So, I ordered the chicken curry, expecting an Indian style curry like you would get in a British pub, especially as the menu mentions that it comes on a bed of basmati rice with mango chutney. I was definitely surprised when what came out was a Japanese style curry. The mismatch of long grain rice and Japanese style curry was a bit disorienting for me. On the side of the rice and curry was a diced tomato-cucumber salad. After I tasted the curry, the first words that came to mind were bland, and I immediately began looking for hot sauce. Fortunately, a co-worker had done the same, as they wanted to spice up their stir-fry(though I think ordering a stir-fry at a pub is a mistake). In any case, the choices presented were Cholula, Tobascco, and I forget the third, but in any case, nothing that would be appropriate for a curry. I ate the bland curry, thinking that the curry powder must have been used primarily for color, and not flavor, and was dipping my fork into the chutney before every bite, trying to add some flavor. Unfortunately, the sweet mango chutney was practically a jam, and didn’t do much for me. I could see a sweet chutney contrasting a spicy curry, but this curry was basically a yellow roux with some chicken and veggies, with no flavor. Anyway, two stars for being good for groups and accommodating, but no stars for the lackluster and disjointed dining experience.

I came into the Firkin and Wolf with pretty high expectations as my wife and I frequent the Firkin and Fox in Carson City fairly often, and have never had a bad meal or poor service. At best I can only rate the Firkin and Wolf 3 stars. The food is good, but the Jameson Salmon isn’t quite as good and consistent as what they serve in Carson. I am glad to see them serving Buckbean Beer even though they poured my pint a bit short. Service from our waitress was pretty lacking even though it was still early for dinner and they were not very busy yet. At the end of the meal, we paid with cash and waited… and waited… and waited for our change. After about 10 minutes my wife and her sister went outside with the kids to keep the post dinner wiggles from ruining others fine dining experience. Finally, after close to 20 minutes, our waitress returned with our change. She mumbled a quick apology about quarters and rushed off again. It turns out she had to give me almost $ 4 in quarters plus a $ 5 bill as change because she had no $ 1 bills left. I like the look and the ambience of the place and given how good the Carson Firkin is I am sure they just need some time to hit their stride. In the mean time I will give them some time to get it together before coming back in.

I had a burger and salad, both good. The service was friendly and attentive, prices reasonable. Great selection of beers on tap. Solid choice if you are at the Summit and need to grab a bite to eat.
