I love this Waffle Wagon more than I should. I love these things! They are so delicious!

I was so excited when I saw this wagon at the food truck event. The line was long but was only for people waiting for their orders to be completed. There was no line, despite all the crowds, to place my order. I ordered one traditional waffle with powdered sugar on top. The young boy working at the window assured me the line would not be long since I wasn’t ordering an ice cream topped waffle. Within moments my name was being called. I was excited to take a bite but held my bite until I was back at my blanket with friends. I unfolded the paper sleeve the waffle was in and found it coated in powdered sugar. Even more excited now that i’ve seen the generous portion of sugar. Bite. Disappointment. The texture was bland and dry. The crunch outside was nice but once you hit the middle of the bite it tasted dry. There seemed to be stacks of dry layers in the middle. Aside from the dry texture the flavor was lacking. I couldn’t find any flavor that resonated it just tasted off. The batter was bland and when paired with the dry texture it wasn’t palatable. One bite and I threw it away. I will not be back to try another one.

Wow! I am still wanting the waffle that I had on Friday at the Reno Street food, it was a waffle sundae with blackberry sauce and vanilla ice cream SO amazing! Super nice father/little son team– the salted caramel ice cream was also amazing! I actually wanted another as I left the venue. I wish they would come up with a social media page-. One suggestion I have it that they have someone pass out a small sample because this is not your normal dry waffle. its chewy and delicious! I can not wait to have another and hope to not miss them by going on vacay.

Yay! I was skeptical since all the so called«liege» waffles I’ve tried in Reno/Tahoe were awful and not even close to authentic. I first spotted them at Midtown Farmer’s market but had my doubts and skipped them. After being disappointed with another waffle at a local breakfast eatery I decided to give this one a try at Food Truck Fridays. We wanted something sweet and the only other option was an icecream truck, plus the line was short and moving fast. The tiny trailer is manned by a friendly father and young son duo I think. Son takes the order and cash and father makes and hands out the waffles. Smells were delightful and I was pleased to note they were making the waffles fresh, not reheating them like other establishments I’ve visited. Prices were very fair at $ 3.50 for a waffle, .50cents for chocolate/caramel syrup/or fruit preserves, and $ 5 for a waffle with scoop of icecream and topping. I think Liege waffles are sweet enough on their own. after a brief wait I was handed the hot little waffle in a paper sleeve and I did ask for a dusting of powdered sugar. I was happy to see the glossy crusty blobs of carmelized sugar that are hallmark for this type of waffle and it appears they used real belgian sugar crystals, not the smaller swedish ones. hot, sweet, yeasty, and delicious. A nice treat for the summer weekends! update: I had a nice conversation with the father and he explained they do bake them ahead of time and reheat/recrisp them in the waffle irons on site. The quality is still very good. one other note to potential customers is that the line tends to stack up a little bit after you place your order. It’s torturous to stand and wait while smelling the warm sweet scent wafting out of the trailer, but it’s worth the wait!
