poor service, green tea $ 2 each person and refill $ 2. poor chef.

Thanks Winston. Loved the salmon skin roll and sake nigiri. Dessert appetizers were included. Can’t go wrong. Great value

I’m revolted by this place. I’ll make a list of the few pros and the many cons. Pros: Food was good Cons: Food was small Waiter was nowhere to be seen Waiter was rude Took literally FOREVER to order food and drinks(it wasn’t crowded) Food took over half an hour to arrive Asked for soy sauce which never came Table wasn’t the cleanest Never got refills on any drinks MYPLATEWASDIRTYWHENITCAME!!! So I hope you reconsider coming to this place. Definitely not worth the food.

Ok so this is my go to place for sushi, I would normally give them five stars. However, today there was a new sushi chef behind the counter and it was very very obvious he was new. The usual staff here know us and make our rolls with a few requested changes. This guy couldn’t figure out our simple requests an had to have one of the regular chefs come help him make a very simple roll. The downfall of this place is its very hit and miss depending on who is behind the counter. The service does need improvement, they are definitely not the most attentive staff. On a good day their sushi is delicious which is why I keep coming back. Hopefully you can catch them on a good day, I’ve had one star days and five star days here.

Used a groupon to try out the place — first the groupon didn’t say«Not good for all you can eat» But that’s what they said. So ordered a la carte. Ordered several orders of Nigiri sushi(fish and rice) — portions incredibly small. Would have considered them small even for an all you can eat serving, but these were not even as big as my little finger. Ordered several hand rolls and they were okay(tempura hand rolls). Ordered a salmon skin salmon hand roll. It took forever and came out cold. Service was terrible. Waited 10 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant for a check while our«server» chatted it up with some girls at another table and a customer that obviously everyone of the staff knew. Finally, left and the«server» came running out with the check. The groupon more than covered the amount. I complained about the time it took to receive the check. «I’m not a server,» he said. He got that part right. Will not be back

I’ve had sushi at many different styles of restaurants all over the US and Japan. Here’s how Woo Chon stacks up: Super small fish-to-rice ratio. The fish slices were super thin and disappointing. Lots of rice. Some of their rolls were pretty good, but honestly… this place was super dead on a Friday night… during lent, when Catholics don’t eat meat. So I would think there would be more people eating sushi here? Or maybe they were all at Hiroba. The staff and owner was very nice, but the service was super, super, agonizingly slow. There were 3 sushi guys there. We ordered the AYCE sushi. One sushi guy(owner) was making us sushi at a molasses slow pace, while the others were just standing around. I wish the others helped him get us our sushi quickly. I love all sushi… even bad sushi. So I guess I’d return here again, but I’d probably try another sushi place in Reno first before thinking of returning here.

Avoid at all costs. My friend dragged me to this place and I didn’t take into consideration that he lost most of his taste buds when he turned 57. I cannot stress this enough this is the worst sushi I have ever had. Step it up Woo Chon.

So Ive been here a few times and really liked it, this time, not so much. Service was fast and curtious, however, I got sick. I think maybe the fish wasn’t very fresh. The rolls kept falling apart. My son loved his tempura and my brother said that his sushi was pretty good. That’s why I’m giving it 2 stars. Better luck next time guys.

First visit, weekday night, sat at sushi bar. Friendly staff — 5 stars. Sushi tasted great(tried five rolls) — 4 stars. Rolls were smaller than other sushi restaurants in town though proportioned. Service was a little slow(after we sat down so we can order something to drink and after ordering sushi) — 2 stars. It’s a small restaurant and there were two sushi chefs and later our waiter joined in to help but they still struggled to keep up with the customers’ orders. Price — 3 stars(average with other places I’ve tried) Someone from the kitchen came out to check on the tables to see if they needed clearing, etc. is a nice plus I would go back.

The food was not great. But beyond that, the worst thing was the restaurant coupon rip-off. Okay, so all-u-can eat is excluded from the coupon, but then don’t tell me that you are unable to back out the orders and ring them up ala carte because it’s too hard! It is not hard at all — just look at the order list! It made what would have been a decent experience turn into a terrible one where we left feeling ripped off and angry at the absence of an «owner» who could make a call on what should have been a goodwill building experience. I won’t be back here, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, coupon or not. Terrible deal!

I used to love going here years ago, but things have changed. I tried the«Japanese» food this time instead of the sushi. Our server was great but It seemed like management had her hands tied. We had a coupon but it took her a while to get it resolved because the owner wanted more documentation. The food was actually really good but there were many improvements to be made all over the restaurant. I would have been ok with these«details» if this was a «coffee shop» type of place, but it isn’t. If they are going to be as expensive as they are, I definitely expect more. It’ll be a while before I come here again.

We ended up here initially because it’s close to our house, but after facing disappointment at other local sushi joints(Sushi Teri you crap hole, I’m talking about YOU) we keep ending back at Woo Chon. Other reviewers have complained about the over-use of sauce. I haven’t run into this problem OR I just like whatever sauces they are using. This is simply a matter of personal taste. The fish has always been fresh and the rolls are well made. Their all you can eat is of a decent price and includes a lot of non-sushi extras to choose from. The sushi chefs are very sweet and funny and I definitely recommend sitting at the bar as you will probably get better and faster service… which leads me to my one complaint. They are horribly understaffed. We’ve been there when every seat in the place is filled and they still only have the one waitress serving all tables. It can get frustratingly slow. If Woo Chon would hire additional sushi chefs and waitresses to work their busiest hours, I would give them 5 stars. *Edited to add that their bathroom could use some attention. Half used rolls of toilet paper and paper towels leaning against the wall is kind of lazy. It wouldn’t take more than 5 seconds to properly refill the dispensers.

Hands down the worst sushi I’ve ever had. The service is slow and the sushi is sad.

I love what the new owner has done to the menu. They have the most creative and friendly sushi chefs in town. Try a Pacquiao or Rock and Roll long roll today. One of my favorites is the Kings Beach Roll because it has the perfect combination of cream cheese and crab, topped with scallops. The quiet atmosphere and friendly staff, make this place a step above most sushi restaurants in Reno/Sparks. This is my go to place when friends are in town or we need to celebrate a birthday. It’s located around the corner from the freeway and it’s easy to find a free place to park. The price is comparable to most all you can eat sushi in town.

No. «Woo Chon» is Korean or Chinese, I don’t know– but it isn’t Japanese, that’s for sure. Sign out front says«Japanese Food» and«Sushi.» That’s your first warning sign this isn’t going to work. Sign may as well say«Billy Bob’s House of Classical French Dining.» The two just don’t go together. Other reviews accurate: Avoid. Other places in town are better without schizophrenic culture mixing(Sushi Time, Sushi Pier).

Ugh I hate to write this review. I think though it is a matter of personal preference. The fish seemed fine itself, but the sauces used just I thought were gross. Their soy sauce was off, like maybe some off brand b/c it was weird tasting. And they dont give you a separate soy sauce holder, just wasabi and ginger… thats just a peeve of mine haha. They didn’t use a ton of sauce either though(or so I thought) which that point might be helpful to some. And I felt the rolls did taste different from one another. The roll I didnt mind the most was definitely the Woo Chon, I went with someone who has been going here for years(Since Sushi Teri was the only sushi place in town…) so she added a twist to it that probably adjusted my view of it. They also made a special little bite called the Love Joy that was great but the sushi chef we had, though extremely friendly and personable, said he only worked a day a week, and I believe he was rather new because he needed help with some of the rolls, well at least the ones my friend normally gets(a regular they know). I noticed that their scallops were either really tiny or really chopped up b/c I couldnt even taste them, and my friend noted that they are different than normal, and suggested they go back to the old ones. I love the Wayne’s roll(my friend knew Wayne! cool) and upside down shrimp, they are my first things I order at sushi and neither were spectacular. They had a hint of flavor that I crave but I think b/c of their white, mayonaisy sauce made them seem different and off. Their teriakyi also just wasn’t what I am used to. Its not a place I plan to come back to, even though the rolls are smaller like I like and the service and chefs are great AND lunch is the BEST deal in town since there is no dinner menu, just one menu so all the same sushi just at a cheaper price… The last point kills me, because its such a great deal, but I just dont care for their version of sushi. Well and the chefs were so accomodating and friendly, I had chats with them like old friends.

This is a place can be good in a pinch. We had a bunch of different rolls. The chefs behind the bar seemed to be enjoying themselves. It felt like I was hanging at a friends house. Atmosphere is standard Reno AYCE. Nothing really stands out. Food was good. They had some really good rolls. I really do have to say that I loved the Quail egg shooter that the guy made for me. I could do those all night. It wasn’t all loaded with soy and salt. Started sweet and then ended spicy. Loved the dessert rolls too. I will return… before I recommend to my friends. But I will return.

Woo Chon has new owners within the last couple of months(Jan 2011 I think?), LOVE this place. BESTSUSHIINRENO. I know that isn’t saying much, but trust me this is the best. I moved here from Las Vegas where sushi is fresh and amazing. Reno sushi is all you can eat and like I said for Reno, this is the best place I have found. The new owner is super friendly. Service is FAST and the sushi rolls are delicious. My favorites are: the Island Roll, Crunch Roll, Touchdown, Rock and Roll, and Spicy Maza. The Wayne’s hand roll is very good. I love the Miso Soup and Cucumber Salad as well. This is a kid friendly restaurant. The chef gave me some rice for my baby upon request. They have highchairs and the restaurant as well as restrooms are very clean. There is a TV and music playing. If you want a locally owned restaurant where«everyone knows your name» this is your place. I love this place…

This place definitely has its charm. The sushi chefs have a pretty good sense of humor, they make great quail egg shooters too. I would have to agree that they slather their rolls with too much mayo-like sauce. Their service is ok. I would recommend coming here at least once if you like sushi and trying their unique rolls, like the spanish roll with cilantro or their spicy tuna hand roll which is pretty good.

Okay, so I TRY to be open-minded and try other sushi places in town besides Sushi Pier – really, I do. Husband got a recommendation for this place in the Smithridge shopping center, and since I needed to go to Trader Joe’s anyways, we decided to try it out. Meh. I won’t call it bad sushi, but it wasn’t great, either. The rolls were all slathered with sauces, including some nasty white mayonaisse-y dressing. Husband says that the nigiri was«good.» The upside down shrimp were atrocious. Two rolls really worth having are the Woo Chon specialty roll and the«Spicy June» roll from the specials board. The service was SOSLOW. Even though there were two sushi chefs and only two couples dining, we had to wait FOREVER. And then the waitress was too busy texting to realize that the chef had completed our order and had removed himself to the kitchen. I definitely recommend sitting at the bar here unless you are really, really patient. One thing I really liked about the place was the presentation. Our trays came out looking quite lovely, with each piece artfully arranged. Too bad they didn’t taste as good as they looked. The décor is very Japanese… quite a difference from a lot of sushi places in town that don’t even bother to look like Japanese restaurants. Good atmosphere all around, except for the fact that one of the sushi chefs kept making a horrible sound as though he were trying very hard to hock up a loogie… ew. Also, this place advertises itself as a Japanese AND Korean restaurant, but I read both sides of the menu and didn’t find one thing that looked Korean to me. Maybe you have to know the secret code word.
