Great service, good food, dated décor. Don’t let looks fool you. From the outside, with a plywood covered window, the place certainly looks like it has seen better days. I’m pretty sure that the inside décor hasn’t been touch since the restaurant first opened. But I think this adds to the charm of slightly off-the-beaten-track restaurant. I’ve had lunch here several times over the past month with my wife and we’ve enjoyed quiet, intimate conversation. Wait staff has been friendly and attentive. The bar is completely separated from the restaurant side having both a shared vestibule entrance and its own entrance. This definitely helps to keep dining quiet and much more intimate. While this restaurant and bar has your typical bar food, it’s well prepared, tasty, and considerably better than your average bar food fare. This, of course, helps explain the name but not quite — didn’t see a whole lot of steak or seafood on the menu — it’s more like fine dining bar style prepared dishes which you might expect to come from a fancier steak and seafood place. There’s a definite culinary talent in the kitchen as seen by the consistently and excellently prepared Crème Brûlée that my wife has enjoyed on two of our lunch excursions there. If you’re looking for a quiet, cozy place to meet your spouse for lunch, I’d recommend meeting them at Teagn’s.

Loved the pasta with shrimp! Service was really good. Clean… everything we look for, in good customer service.

When you need a steak knife to saw through your chicken it’s not high on my return list. Less than stellar service. Doubt we will return.

We went there last night, the service and food were awesome. We were greeted immediately and seated right away without reservations. The waitress was great, right on top of things. I had the prime rib dinner and my husband had the sirloin and shrimp special. Both were delicious and plentiful. Prices were good as well. We will definitely go back again.

I started with a 5 star after walking in the door and seeing the veteran server acknowledge us while tending to 5 tables. The hostess walked in a few min later and sat us and handed us menus. Mind you I have been here before and have enjoyed good meals and really like their old school menu. The server gave us water then asked if we wanted drinks. I asked if there was a wine list and she rattled off about 6 wines. I recalled liking their house Riesling not to sweet. She proceeded to bring the trad crackers and herbed spread. I ordered the NY strip steak friend ordered veal Dish which was supposed to be a mushroom and proshutt. The salad was fine. Veal dig came with a heavy white sauce almost like creamed beef. My steak was done to order a good portion, tasty and hot! Greenbeans and garlic mashed. Unfortunately the potatos and it took me a while to get her attention. She did bring me a hot plate of potatoes it took 10 min and I almost finnished my steak. Tables were leaving. We skipped dessert and asked for to go container. Specifically asked her to leave the steak scraps for the dog and she portended to understand. We then waited another 10 min for the bill. We actually got up from the table and waited at hostess table. The leftovers were wrapped moved in styrofoam and saran wrap-no bag. The next day went to give dog scraps-not there! And I received the potatoes that I sent back because they were cold(I knew this because it had green beans imbedded) normally one would give either the replacement potatoes or both as you know they are thrown out anyways. Sorry if this is a rant, but as I mentioned I was ready to give this a 4 – 5 rating. Do not expect great a great atmosphere but it’s Rensselaer and a good value and good food.

Saw the four stars and good reviews so maybe I had high expectations. The food was okay, nothing I’d go back for. The restaurant has a slate floor with banquet chairs, nothing very inviting. We were greeted with ritz crackers in a wicker basket with home made Boursin spread. It was scampi night so my wife ordered that with shrimp and chicken. It was cooked well but lacked garlic… Scampi lacking garlic… Go figure. I had steak Diane. The steak was cooked perfectly, a good dish but nothing I’d write home about. Low expectations and you’ll probably enjoy it.

Went back again and sat at the bar. I was the only person there at 4:45 on a Tuesday. I got a Sam’s draft that tasted metallic. The bartender cared more about fixing herself a drink and washing glasses than going over specials or even simply asking me if I wanted a menu. She didn’t make me pay for the beer and said she was«busy preparing for the 5pm rush» how about the dude sitting right in front of you? Might try again as the dining room staff on prior visits was great, might not. Never again at the bar.

7/17/2014…Great experience! Delicious meal, our server Heather was great. Haven’t been there in quite a few years, but will definitely be back. True that the exterior doesn’t do the place any favors, but don’t let that keep you from going through the door.

My wife and I had the Friday night $ 15.95 prime rib special. It was excellent. She got the regular cut, I had an end cut. Both were perfectly cooked. The twice baked potato was first rate, as were the vegtables and salad. A really good meal and a very reasonable price. Service was first rate.

Had a Living Social coupon but the somewhat creepy location nearly made me turn around, anyway. Glad I didn’t. My scampi was wonderful and my wife said her scallops were delicious. Dinners plus crackers & spread, bread, salads, two domestic beers, a soda and a couple of really great desserts came to a total just over $ 60, including tax but not the tip. The service was great, too. Also, fairly easy access for handicapped. No stairs & wheelchair friendly. We’re not close enough to be regulars but we’ll be looking for more coupons. Don’t let the location deter you.

All of the reviews for Teagan’s, 390 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush should be valid here. The restaurant closed that location and moved to this location. Same chef-owner, same cooks, same waitstaff and bartenders. I have been a steady customer for years now. The food is consistently good, the servers are all great. This is another chef-owner place. The owner is often but not always in the kitchen. His backups execute the dishes just as well as he does. The bar has that«Cheers-everybody knows your name» atmosphere. The emphasis is on steaks and Italian.
