Fairwood Martial Arts

So far so great! Sensei Rikki and Master John are friendly individuals (owners). There are lots of other instructors to help as well. I love the fact that you can sit in your car and watch the children practice right from the parking lot. There are tests that students pass in order to move on (I think). There is also a viewing area for parents/​observers from behind a glass window. There are also Little Ninja classes. They also have pay per basis programs, although it is not encouraged, for those who want to prepay a few months and be deducted for each showing. I’m on this now and like it better. My son is there for the confidence and exercise but he is also very full of activities as it is. We would like to be long-​timers, so this helps us lots! Nothing bad to say about this place so far. My son is really happy! :)

My former stepson was taking lessons here, and I’m late to the party to give them their positive review but want to do so.
They allowed him to take karate without requiring a contract and the charge was $ 100 a month, with him coming in as often as desired. The instructors and what I’ll call junior instructors (kids in brown and green belts) were all kind but very firm. He really enjoyed going to karate, and it helped him with self-​discipline and his over sensitivity to responsibility and strong personalities. I’d still have him there if I was his parent.
The parents are encouraged greatly to watch their children and participate in their development, a big bonus factor in my eyes. The owners and instructors really care about the kids.

My 10 yr old son has been training here for a year now and I cannot fully express the benefits and growth he is receiving. My son has grown so much in his confidence, focus, respect (he has always been respectful, but even more so), agility, balance, listening skills, and desire to be a positive influence in his world outside the dojo. My respect for this place was and is so high due to the dedication the instructors have for excellence and honor and reverence to the art and its origins. I made the decision to join this year as well at the age of 33 because of these things previously mentioned and am very glad I did. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone of any age that is looking to be trained properly in the martial arts.

I am very satisfied with my decision to enroll my 5 year old into the Little Ninjas program @ Fairwood Martial Arts. I searched GOOGLE for «Karate in Kent, WA» & this was one of the places I researched. I found a coupon on-​line, called, confirmed it was still active, arrived a few hours later to register and then my son began his first karate class. Registration was extremely friendly & informational. Sensai Ricky is awesome with my son as well as the other children. I think the price is very reasonable ($ 60/​month for once/​weekly) & I’m excited to see my son excel. I chose this place over Goju in Kent because Fairwood’s classes are 45 min long. Goju in Kent, their classes are 30 min long. I don’t see a group of 10 or more 5 year olds learning much in 30 min.

I can only speak to the general ambiance and spin class, but Fairwood is great! I truly enjoyed my time in spin class and only stopped going due to a particularly ruthless bout of bronchitis and now pregnancy. I hope to return after the kid pops out. :)
The prices are very fair, there is plenty of parking, and classes are spaced out so you are sure to find one that fits into your schedule. The teachers make it fun and are all nice people. Many of the people in my spin classes were long-​timers. I think that speaks volumes of this business.
The facility itself is large and clean, with a large mat area for martial arts, a kids corner, locker areas, restroom, weight room and spinning bikes. It is very low-​key and approachable. Plus there is no contract which came in handy for me!

Fairwood Martial Arts is an excellent place for children and adults at all levels to learn karate. The owners/​instructors are passionate about teaching, and the classes are tough but fun. Kickboxing and spinning classes are also available at several different times and are a great workout. The atmosphere is family-​friendly and positive. My kids and I both love it.

Fairwood Martial Arts is a great place for both kids and adults alike. Their youth program is top notch. I love how my son has learned not only martial arts, but the respect and discipline that goes along with it. It has carried over to his behavior at school and home. They also have a great preschool program with Rikki being both so patient and strict at the same time. My kids both love her and all of the other instructors.
As well, they have spinning classes that I love, especially since many of them coincide with the kids class times. John does a great job motivating and giving many fitness and biking tips.
With no contract required, reasonable monthly fees and adult workout classes at the same time, you can’t go wrong!

Great place, makes you feel welcome no matter what your slill level. John is a great motivator.

What I like most about this place: No contract required, reasonably priced, small comfortable classes, friendly environment, and family owned!
Both my daughter and I started attending this dojo where she takes the Karate classes and I take the Kickboxing classes. I won’t lie, the first few classes were tough but unlike a lot of other activities I’ve tried, I find myself actually WANTING to attend class. It’s like my body is addicted to the work out!
As for the Karate classes, so far I like what I’ve seen. Again, I don’t know a lot about the art but my daughter really seems to enjoy it. From word of mouth, this place stays pretty busy and I can see why. Don’t expect some posh place where people are afraid to «push you» (figuratively speaking… and literally). This place is family owned and run by people who really love what they do and at the end of the day you don’t feel like you left a dojo, it almost feels like you’ve visited with a group of family/​friends.
