I was a loyal Goodwiller for over a decade… Until I moved to Seattle. The gargantuan size of our local Goodwills is quite intimidating, and I often find myself leaving empty-handed because I get too overwhelmed to go through the fastidious process required for thrifting. St Vinny’s is a pleasant escape, bringing me back to my used-goods roots. Yes, it’s small, and yes, finding the gems takes some digging, but gems there are! On my annual birthday shopping spree today I found 3 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, and a dress for $ 25. All of these items are name brand(Calvin Klein, Citizens of Humanity, J Crew, Anne Taylor Loft, Etc) and in very good condition. The staff are always friendly and I’ve never had to fight crowds or lines at the dressing rooms when I go here during the week. This is a great shop to take your time and still be able to pick everything over before feeling burnt-out.

This store makes helping a friend set up an office a breeze. Matching professional looking office furniture just for one person on a tight budget is a hard one is hard to find, but to be able to set up an office for three that matches is beyond our dreams. St Vincent has a ton of great stuff. Totally scored on adjustable desks for sitting or standing that were over $ 650 at I don’t think they knew what they were. :)

This a rummage style thrift store where most non clothing items live in a jumble on the shelves. To its credit though, it has a very well organized book section, including a sci-fi section — which I am super supportive of! Most of what I saw in terms of clothing were ready-wear casual basics. You may find the occasional odd-bird clothing find here. But, if you do it will probably be priced up. This is a positive in terms of contributing to St. Vinnie’s mission. And a negative in terms of your personal budget. Pros: Right on Rainier, ample parking, accessible, accepts credit cards(Visa, MC, Discover). Holy stemware batman — there’s a lot of glasses available at this place. Consider if you’ve just moved and left your stemware behind. Cons: Idiosyncratic pricing. 79 dollars for a used wedding dress? You could get a new one on sale at a David’s Bridal type store for that much. 16 for a beat up looking crock pot? You can get one for 9 or less(on sale days) at goodwill. I don’t know if Vinnies uses some kind of standardized pricing guide like goodwill. But, if not, they might consider establishing one or revising the one they do use. It’s an okay thrift store. But I would say it either needs more interesting donations or to reconsider its pricing. Photos posted of the finds I couldn’t leave behind.
