I took your suggestion and tried the falafel gyro at Café’ Tarra and I am at a loss to find what you found so delicious. I’m not going to slam Café’ Tarra (much) because this is the only time I’ve tried them, but I hope the rest of their food isn’t as bland as the falafel gyro plate.
Cold pita; falafel that’s lack of flavor was only outdone by its overcooked-ness (is that a word?); completely bland hummus and tzatziki (if that’s what those were «supposed» to be).
I was wondering why at noon on a work day that there were lines at almost all the other food carts except Café’ Tarra… I think I now know. This kind of food is what makes people not like or want to try vegetarian food.
Maybe I just caught them on a bad day.

One of the carts on Marshall St near MCV downtown.
They have Greek/Mediterranean meals.
My favorite is the falafel gyro. I’m so in love with it for some reason, although my first experience was the best. The pita isn’t great and falls apart but you can use a fork. It comes with several tasty falafel pieces, lettuce, tomatoes, onions (very fresh). The tzatziki sauce is on the side and so is some red pepper hummus. I like to dip the broken off pieces of pita into the hummus and I’ve seen people buy extra pieces of pita.
I have also tried the chicken gyro which I wasn’t as crazy about but still good.
Average price for the carts, $ 5 – 6 dollars. All the entrees seem pretty popular and the special side salad is also usually popular.
