Deep Run Roadhouse

I just finished my first meal at Deep Run Roadhouse, after a coworker insisted I had to try it. I will definitely be back soon!
I had a Roadhouse salad to start and a Reuben sandwich as my entrée. The salad was great; the greens were crisp, the dressing was amazing and put on the side (not drowning the salad before you get a chance to try it), and the chicken on top was tender and flavorful. After the salad I started in on my Reuben, my expectations were high as this is one of my favorite sandwiches. I can honestly say that I was beyond impressed. They clearly tried to do their own version of the sandwich and it worked, the smoked beef brisket added a wonderful flavor to the traditional sauerkraut and 1000 island.
The staff was friendly and politely answered my questions. They were eager to guide me towards the meal I wanted and not try to «sell» me on something else, as in a more expensive up sell of a special. I will be back soon especially now that I know the offer delivery and can have it delivered without leaving the couch.
My only complaint is that the salad portion was a little larger than I would have liked. It was more of an entrée salad than a starter. It left me a little full, almost forcing me to find the room to finish my sandwich and side. However, on the plus side, there was definitely an inherent value to the portion size.

Found this place on Unilocal and WOW what a great find!!! First time to Richmond and hit a home run with this place. The food was some of the best BBQ I have had and the brisket is an excellent choice! The staff were awesome and very helpful in making the right choice in food and sauces. Highly recommend you try this place even if you don’t like BBQ because they have burgers and fish as well.

Coming from a native Texan, this place has (hands down!) the BEST brisket in RVA. Great food, great service, go check it out!

This place is just amazing!!! Right on VCU Campus, good prices and the best pulled pork I’ve had in RVA. The jalapeño Mac and cheese is a must and the cornbread has a honey butter with it that is to die for!

Great bbq, the sides are tasty. A bit pricey but I haven’t had anything bad yet and I’ve been three times. When the garage door is up, it’s a great atmosphere too.

Excellent service each time I have visited this establishment. Extensive menu, hard not find something you like and most likely will buy more than you anticipated because it all looks so good. I have had the ribs, beef brisket, Texas caviar, collard greens, jalapeño Mac n cheese, sausage, all excellent. But if BBQ is not your thing, they have burgers and fish also. Like I said plenty to choose from. Like in my review for Alamo BBQ, there is some good competition going on between these two master grillers. The edge that Deep Run has is inside seating vs Alamo it’s a closed in tent during the winter.

Loved the brisket and the collards! I’ll be back to try the tacos. My five-​year-​old was a big fan of the mac ‘n’ cheese.

The latest restaurant in space competing with massive chains across the street finally feels like it belongs.
With attentive staff, careful choices in décor, and a shockingly large menu given the space, this is a place you could go for a casual date, students could take their parents for local flavor, or to just grab home style comfort food.
The food is affordable, and confident in its flavor. They market fresh daily food, and it tastes like it.
I have the most quibble-​y of downsides:
There are only 4 person tables (though the benches in the back could become a family style long one).
Some of the sides are to hot (in temperature) which can be fixed by relocating it to the tray (the trays are a nice touch).
And the menu seems a bit large for a kitchen so small, which is a lot to take in.
A personal annoyance is that a new restaurant popped up with no sign of accepting wireless payments. You hope that anybody installing a new payment system today will future proof it, and I’m that person who’s walked out of stores who don’t accept Apple Pay.
Also the bathrooms are tiny, like converted storage closets tiny. But, what are you gonna do? That predates the previous tenants.
Grab a friend or 3, a real wallet with cards, take care of any *ahem personal business* and eat some really good food without any guilt.
Would go again.

When this many items on a menu speak to me, I tend to hold up lines and make people cranky. Fortunately the friendly staff helped me out of that jam with a couple clutch recommendations. My brisket and pork tacos arrived quickly and were super tasty. I’ll be back again for lunch next week.

This is the 2^nd location opened for Deep Run Roadhouse. Same great food just closer to VCU and downtown. Best hole in the wall you can find. The brisket was great. Vegetarian options available. Yes, vegetarian at a BBQ. A little something for everyone one. Off street parking. Need to try it.
