Really enjoy this place. For lunch, their turkey burger is phenomenal and their wait staff is polite. I am part of a group that now meets there twice a month at lunchtime and they were able to serve 30+ people in a very short period of time and without a hitch. The food was hot and tasted great and their staff made sure all the drinks stayed full and were conscious of our speaker

I stopped by this place two years ago, right before I moved to Virginia Beach. So sorry to hear it’s not closed and wish I’d been active on Unilocal while they were still in existence. Post a picture of the meal I had. Delicious food and great service! Also had the Krispy Kreme bread pudding —- delicious!

The drinks here are pretty good. The downside the individual I was with and myself arrived later on in the evening and the bar was out of a few liquor or were unwilling to make some of the drinks we were requesting«it’s to late and that drink is to hard to make». At about 2am someone had vomited in the upstairs bathroom and instead of cleaning it they closed the bathroom. This would normally not be a problem, but there was only one other one stall bathroom downstairs. All in all I had a good time and got wasted which was the allotment goal.

Just joined Unilocal today and wrote a bunch of reviews, but I can’t log off without singing the praises of Delux. I first went there a couple years ago because a friend of mine and I went to 3 Monkeys and were disappointed enough to walk out. We saw the neon sign and the crowd and headed down to Delux, and it is now my go-to spot for drinks and food. I even met my boyfriend there! The atmosphere is great and depending on what night and what time you go, it ranges from super-crowded to dead. Of course, the big draw is Sunday night with $ 2 rails and highballs and $ 2 off the appetizers. Thursday is also good for«Ladies Night» with discounted flavored cosmos and Coors Light. My boyfriend and I love going there, not just because of the sentimental value, but because it is comfortable, laid back and fun and the music is always pretty decent. The menu is really great, as well. I typically stick to the appetizer menu because when we go, we go for drinks, but my boyfriend got the Delux burger one time and it was AMAZING. I’ve had just about everything and it’s ALL delicious– the bruschetta, the lobster dip, the buffalo shrimp, the thai lettuce wraps, the nachos and quesadillas and the sliders… but try the truffle fries!!! heaven with alcohol. One thing I can say, and why I didn’t give them 5 stars, is that there is a little problem with consistency. One night you will order nachos and they’ll be amazing with everything, the next time they may be missing the meat or overcooked. They also took a few things off the menu that I personally loved. I have not gotten over the disappearance of the chicken flatbread, which was my favorite. Finally, Marithe is an amazing bartender and the sweetest girl. We love talking to her and she is always so professional and friendly. The young man and woman who bartend on Thursday are also great… I just can’t remember their names! All in all, Delux is an amazing spot and my favorite place in Richmond. I tell everyone about it and go there constantly– so try it out! You won’t be sorry

I ended up here after the wait at Sticky Rice was just too long. The back room at this place is awesome, when it’s warm out they open what seem to be large garage doors so you’re basically outdoors. It was very cozy with the candles on the tables, but I think it was a little too dark in there. The martini was great, and the food was reasonably priced. We ordered off the blue plate menu. I would come here again to eat dinner in the back room.

A large group of my friends ended up here for after dinner drinks this past weekend. There was a large section for us upstairs and the place was not bad. Drinks were fine and cheap. Good place to stop by for some late night drinks.

My husband and I went for a lunch date about a week ago. It was decent. But nothing special. For the price, I would expect a side with my pasta. The sauce was watery… way too much cheese. My husband got the philly… he didnt seem too impressed either. THe bathroom was a little gross for the time of day it was. Also our waitress was about to get off work when we ordered, so she asked us(politely at least) to settle up so she could do her paperwork before the next server arrived. We obliged, but her tip did reflect that. Also she got out of that building so fast… and then it was a good 10 minutes before her replacement arrived. Décor is pretty… but Nothing seems to add up. If youre going to be classy… have classy staff. or if youre going to be a dive-y college bar… go with that… not a mix of the two. I wouldnt go back intentionally.

Pros: Nice central location, great interior space, good food and fantastic service Cons: noisy bar crowd I’d been years ago when it first opened and remember thinking«meh, the food and service are marginal, the atmosphere beats the food, prices are a bit high.» We decided to try again last night(Easter Sunday) and it is now a new fav. Katrina, our superb waitress was unrivaled except in perhaps the finest restaurants — she continued to return and proactively ask us about what we’d like, even offering to bring things to us that we hadn’t asked for. She had the back room as well as tables in the front and cheerily managed our slow ordering style and asking for things like lemon and mustard. The food was very good. Apps were $ 2 off and the gigantic hot portion of edamame was served with a soy reduction and Sriracha that was habit-forming. The large portion of hot wings were HOT and extra crispy as we requested with a large portion of cucumber and tomato slices. We didn’t even get to the burger — it’s in a to go container in the fridge, but looks wonderful. Menu prices are very reasonable. The bar and dining areas were attractively lit and tastefully decorated. The back dining area is comfortable and has glass garage doors that can be opened to provide fresh air in nice weather, and(last night, at least) provided a refuge from the loud crowd in the front at the bar and a good(and interesting) view of Strawberry Street traffic. Good music mix. There appears to be an upstairs dining area as well. We will be back and asking for Katrina.

Great place. Awesome service. Had the lobster mad & cheese and it was perfect. Price wasn’t too bad and the atmosphere was very trendy.

I had a nice lunch here today with a dear friend. It’s a dreary rainy day, so there wasn’t much foot traffic wandering in to join us, so needless to say, we had our server’s undivided attention. When it came to the menu, my eyes were immediately drawn to the Baked Mac & Cheese(vermont white cheddar, Smithfield ham and chives). Listed as an appetizer, I figured I would take my chances and get a bowl of soup if I wasn’t sated afterwards. My friend has gluten allergies, so she has to be very certain about what she’s getting when she orders, and settled on the Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna Salad without the coconut curry noodles it normally comes with. It was definitely a nice sized salad, with good portion of vibrant, fresh-looking tuna. The julienned vegetables gave a different look to what I assume is supposed to be an Asian-themed dish. For the main event, my Mac-n-cheese was no mere appetizer. It was a heap of pasta, well-sauced, not overly cheesy, like most baked casserole-style mac-and-cheeses tend to be. It may have been a little under-seasoned, but I’m a known over-seasoner, so take that how you will. I ate about two-thirds, remembered that I’m ostensibly dieting, and semi-responsibly asked for a to-go box that I might revel in it again tomorrow. Ha! A very nice mac-and-cheese and a tremendous value for the portion. I’ve eaten here once or twice before, but certainly been by many more times for drinks, whether it was a networking event upstairs or escaping the madness across the street @ Sticky Rice. Nothing stands out before today’s lunch, but no real negatives either, save for a DJ once who didn’t have a good understanding of how his sound filled the space, but that’s another review entirely. So, in closing, deLux, a nice place for drinks and a place whose food I need to try more of, by which I mean the Lobster Mac entrée if I happen to have not eaten for a day or two. –TM

I’ve been here a million times. Service is always good. Conveniently located in the heart of the Fan, it’s a great spot for a dry martini and for socializing, but it’s just an okay spot to eat. I used to LOVE the Mixed Green Salad with Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna(instead of the jerk chicken it usually comes with), but lately it’s been made differently almost every time I order it. This last time, it was… wet and just not good at all. The sweet potato fries and mac and cheese are good. The crabcakes are just okay. The fish tacos should be taken off the menu… not good at all. So, if you’re in the mood for a quick drink with friends, go right ahead, but eat somewhere else.

I went to deLux for dinner recently and it wasn’t a great experience. First of all, our server didn’t bring out the appetizer until our entrees were ready(we had ordered them with our entrees, but didn’t specifically say we wanted it all together nor did the server ask). Second, the server was not very help or attentive. She stopped by to ask how we were doing, and before I could say anything she was gone again. As for the check, she gave us the wrong check. She then asked if we wanted it to be split up amongst the three of us and we had said no, but she came back with three separate checks. The food was only alright. The price of a hamburger with mashed potatoes for 6.95 can’t really be beat, but it wasn’t really great. I guess you do get what you pay for. I had really high hopes, but unfortunately it was a disappointment.

The service is ok… the food was pretty good. I would like to go back to the lounge and see how the atmosphere is. The waitress didn’t advise us that there was actually a dinning room in the rear of the restaurant. She just told use we could sit in a booth. We ended up sitting in the nosy bar area unnecessarily. The potatoes could use more flavor didn’t taste like much was added to them.

We ate dinner at DeLux last weekend. The restaurant was not too crowded and we were seated in the back next to the glass garage doors, so we had a lovely view of the street(and our car, which was a bit in the no-parking zone. Oops). The seating was comfortable, and there was music but we could still hear each other talk. Overall I thought it was a lovely place. We ordered an appetizer(lettuce wraps) beer, and cocktails. I loved the lettuce wraps and could’ve eaten a ton of those. And my cocktail was soooooo yummy. And in a big glass, too. This was no stupid little cocktail. I got buzzed fast and had a wonderful time flirting with my husband. We had a great time! For dinner, I ordered the mac and cheese. I was quite excited that mac and cheese was considered an adult dinner. It was not quite what I hoped for. My husband tasted it and said, «salt and pepper,» right away. The dish needed more flavor. I think if it had more asparagus in it, more tomato, salt, and a bit of cream, it would have been spot on in the yum department. I dumped some salt on it and ate about half. I’m not sure I would order this again. My husband ordered a Rueben which he enjoyed. I had a couple of bites, it was tasty. His sweet potato fries were good, too. His fries are always at risk – at risk that I will eat them. We had ice cream at home, so we didn’t order dessert. I understand this place is all about being a bar and a club. We didn’t go upstairs… we’re past that kind of stuff at this point in our lives. I’m giving DeLux and A-OK rating because we had a lot of fun and some of the food was good. Our server was consistent and timely. The ambience was nice. However, we’re not adding DeLux to our«go to» list.

Came here after our last dinner in Richmond in search of dessert and after-dinner drinks. We got there at ten or so, and the club music upstairs was already thumping; we opted to stay downstairs. We were able to order dessert– I got the smores brownie, and SO got a white russian. The smores brownie was served hot with vanilla ice cream on top– so yummy! it had a graham cracker bottom and some marshmallow fluff on top. A definitely decadent dessert. SO enjoyed his white russian. For his next drink, he asked the bartender for a black russian, who wasn’t familiar and due to the din of the music upstairs, he thought SO wanted the same drink, just with the addition of milk and soda or something to that regard(to be fair, SO doesn’t know exactly what goes into a black russian). After SO took a sip of his drink and realized it wasn’t what he wanted(it was still a white drink afterall), we looked up the recipe on my phone and asked the bartender again. he was super apologetic, and we told him the recipe and he made it for him and it turned out great! He also was very happy to have learned a new drink. We left shortly after the second drink, as the noise was getting a little to bass-heavy for me– I do love to club, so I appreciated the music, but we needed to get up early the next day!

AFTERHOURS/NIGHTCLUB REVIEW: deLux, as in «of luxury» in French — The owner obviously failed French class in High school — This place may look classy, but just wait until you meet the clientele this place attracts. I’ve been on Monday Nights and Saturday Nights. Loud, obnoxious, slighty-ghetto trashy crowd. I felt like I was in high school again. It’s like a more boring episode of Jersey Shore. The space inside is really too small, so you get to hear everyone’s loud and annoying conversations — oh and they are really intelligent conversations too… Coupled with the odd service(waitress did a great job of pacing herself to avoid us), I didn’t last very long at this place. But then when I left, I realized the close proximity of Sticky Rice — and everything made sense. I can’t comment on the food.

Hello Happy Hour! Half off all wines by the glass from 4 – 7 p.m., I’m in! Also, half off some martinis(house appletini, cosmo, dirty, etc.) and beer deals, too. I will be back. I got the Fire Road Sauvignon Blanc for $ 4/glass. It was grassy, tart and delicious. Yay! The food here is more okay, the sliders are delish. I’d probably go more for snacking than dinner. This is more a place for cocktails. Love the contemporary atmosphere. It feels trendy and is waaay nicer than your typical Fan bar. I also love that it has 2 levels. It gets pretty crowded on weekend nights, but it’s fun for a night out every so often. In the land of full-priced cocktails, their strawberry martini is delish.

In my assignment by my employer to simply«Check Out» Richmond for a possible re-location, I did just that and stumbled upon this joint. The place across the street, Sticky Rice, had quite the line, so I opted out for deLux. I came in to a practically empty place. This was around lunch time, so I moseyed up to the bar, ordered some grub, and chowed down. All and all, I was very pleased. I ordered the chicken burger with the seasoned fries. The burger was tasty and came with some kind of pesto relish that complimented the burger very well. The fries were nicely seasoned. My service was very good and the bartender was so sweet and friendly that she ended up giving me a neighborhood discount, just in case I moved to the area and wanted to come back. How awesome is that? Based on what I’m reading here, the night appears to be the worst possible time to enter deLux. However, this appears to be a nice lunch spot that is affordable, tasty, and down-right homey. I recommend it… for lunch.

I was expecting a lot from this place — this expectation was based solely on their great logo and typographically clean menu. I came here for brunch with friends today was not particularly impressed. The bloody mary’s and the mimosas were forgettable and the food had some stand-outs, but nothing major. I had the cheese biscuits w/honey butter and the breakfast burrito. Neither was mind blowing, although it did taste good. What stood out was the great onion /pepper combo inside the burrito, the hash browns, and the honey butter(but not the biscuit). My friends got the Lobster and Cheese Mac which they said was great. They ate it pretty quickly. Service could have been a little bit faster on a slow Sunday morning with barely any crowd. For you coffee snobs, don’t get the coffee. On the plus side, the décor is really fantastic. There is a lounge area upstairs which looks fun for weeknight drinks. There is also large art on the exposed brick walls. In terms of décor, this place was quite a feast for the eyes. But not the stomach.

I have been here for drinks but last week was my first trip to eat dinner there and I came away very pleased by the food quality and service. My partner got the Mac N Cheese which was excellent and a huge portion. I got the boneless fried chicken mashed potatoes and asparagus. The meal was delicious. The fried ravioli and bruschetta appetizers were also fantastic. For dessert we shared the brownie a la mode and it was a great finish to the meal. The atmosphere is mid century eclectic and the large murals on the wall are beautiful. The banquets are comfortable and there are bars and dinging rooms on both floors. While I think many consider this a bar/fan hang out, don’t make the mistake of thinking it isn’t a serious food contender.
