Excellent service and food every visit. The chicken and pork BBQ are both wonderful and true to form each time. They did an amazing job getting my order ready for pick in time for my guests to arrive. I can’t wait to go back!

This place is huge but was almost empty at 1:00PM. Now I know why. The ribs and pulled pork were both dry – clearly reheated and not fresh.

The service was fast and friendly, and the price was very fair for two large meals, an appetizer, and two beers, so I’m not actually dissatisfied with my choice to eat here. But it was very hit and miss and underwhelming in a lot of ways. The brisket was actually fairly nice and cooked well, but there was no sauce(or so little I couldn’t notice any) and the two sauces at the table weren’t my style(one very vinegary and thin BBQ, the other was very sweet). The fries were western style and good enough. The hush puppy appetizer was kind of greasy in a way that I’d say the fryer oil probably needed to be changed, but they weren’t bad. The beer was inexpensive, not a huge variety, but enough to find something worth drinking at least. The décor is ridiculously outdated and the place could really use a cleaning and an update. It was a Saturday night and totally dead in there, despite being an absurdly huge restaurant. I think overall what they really need to do to go from mildly disappointing to very good is just come up with a better BBQ sauce and make their sauce choices more appealing. With a good BBQ sauce, this could easily be worth revisiting again for me, but as is, I probably wouldn’t go back.

This is my favorite restaurant in Richmond. The service is great and food is better. What I like most about this place is the consistency of the food. My favorite dish is the BBQ sampler, it’s a must try for first timers.

The Texas tea was amazing! The bbq nachos were so good that I had to make my own the next day. I also ordered the brisket dinner with macaroni and cheese and greens. The brisket was flavorless so I added a sauce that was on the table that had no label. It was like a sweet and sour sauce. I didn’t know if the sauce was made for meats but I had to put some type of flavor on the brisket. The entrance looks scary but once you walk in its really cozy. I’m new to Richmond and I heard this place had the best food. Tried it and I’m definitely coming back.

Don’t go there for $ 2 burger night — they’re basically a slider. Poor service. This location doesn’t serve the beers that their brewery serves south of the river. Ugly building with equally ugly inside. It felt like I went through a time machine.

It’s your typical Richmond BBQ joint. Abysmally slow and inattentive service, high prices, excessive grease, poorly maintained building, charges for drink refills(!!!), and very stingy with the side dishes. West Broad is a slight– VERY slight– improvement over their absolutely horrible southside location. I ate here with a group last night. It was about 16 – 18 of us. We had one waitress for the whole group, who appeared to be one of only two working in the whole restaurant. Obviously, we rarely saw her. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, cole slaw, potato salad, and a basket of hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were filled with grease. Hot oil ran down my face when I bit into the first one. So gross. The BBQ was very dry and lacked flavor. The sides came in the usual tiny cup; barely two mouthfuls of each. Throw in a Diet Pepsi(only one free refill!) and the total came to $ 16 for a meal which was barely edible. The amount of grease made me sick and I was up most of the night. Check out some of the smaller BBQ establishments in town and steer clear of the long-time big names(Extra Billy’s, Buz & Neds). You’ll be disappointed by just about any BBQ in the Richmond metro area, though I highly recommend Carter’s Pigpen in Mechanicsville and have heard many good things about Prince George BBQ if you happen to be heading out that way.

Getting seated took a few minutes because everyone was busy. The food was great we had the combo player for two. Tons of food and it was all great. First real bbq place I have found in Richmond. In case your wondering I have tried most of them and I know what bbq should taste like I have been around the entire country and tried most of them also judged in a few contests. The service was good the waitress was on her game. My cup never reached half way empty. Everyone should try it…

I have been eating here since I was a little kid. Love the food. Wasn’t able to have a meal there tonight as they turned my family away. Never had that happen in any restaurant. Hopefully our ethnicity wasn’t an issue and they are just a**holes to all families with hungry children. Will never be back.

I don’t think it was horrible but it wasn’t memorable either. The service was great but I felt like the food was cooked earlier in the day and heated up in a microwave when it was ordered. The food was delicious but it came out way too fast for our liking. I didn’t even start my salad and my dinner arrived.

WOW if you are looking for beef ribs, this is the place. They are super flavorful, have just the right amount of sauce to get you messy but not give you just mouthfuls of sauce without meat. They are smokey and that eat meat off the bone feel, is just fantastic. The mac and cheese is pretty typical for a BBQ place, but the greens were real mushy. The rolls are good, and the service we had was real nice and made us feel like we were at home. Overall, really super solid beef ribs. Will def go back.

Disgusting food, even more disgusting building. And run by morally bankrupt human beings. Avoid like the plague.

I have been to extra billies in midlothian numerous times and have never had anything less than stellar service. My food has always been perfect and the service has always been on point. I have even bragged on there pulled pork being the best in Virginia. However, the broad street location falls way short. The atmosphere was horrendous. The service was way under par and we ended up leaving before ever being served. Don’t waste your time going to the broad street location. Take the time and drive and extra 30 minutes to midlothian, you won’t be disappointed.

I took my wife out to eat on May 24th at the Midlothian location. We started off with the onion straws and Texas sausage. The onion straws tasted too much like raw flour. The sausage was very good, but that is where it ended. My wife ordered the brisket dinner which was flavorless to say the least. I ordered the Rib sampler with pork and chicken. The pork was bland and dry. The chicken looked like something that was in a can for pets. It tasted horrible with the sauce that was on it when it came out. The ribs were OK, but again lacking any flavor to them. I would think for a BBQ restaurant that I would focus on the flavors most. I will not be going there again nor recommending it to anyone.

SO, Im a huge lover of BBQ and food in general but ever since I moved to the«south», my asian tastebuds just can’t get enough of this good bbq cooking. I have resided in RVA for 10+ years on and off and I have always driven past this restaurant but never thought much of it for some reason… this past Monday my husband and I went there to try something new and we were pleasantly surprised! The parking lot was empty and it was a very bleh day, humid and wet out to be exact. We were worried the restaurant would be closed but they were open and we walked right in. We were greeted promptly with a smile and sat down to view the menu. I noticed 2 bottles of sauce and omfg they were delicious. We were excited there was a kids menu so I can splash all of the sauce and jalapeños as I wanted on my food. The BBQ nachos with EXTRA jalepnos were very tasty. The chips weren’t too salty and everything was just right… nothing fancy, nothing soggy and salty or anything crazy… they were bbq nachos and it was good. I had the brisket and it was very tasty. The potato salad was out of this world and made my cheat day so amazing. The food was not salty at all and I was so happy. My daughters corn dogs and fries were tasty. the fries were sweet and salty and the corn dogs weren’t salty so it was perfect. My husband had the minced pork and he very much enjoyed it with the vinegar sauce. We weren’t rushed in any way, we were left alone to eat and enjoy our food with ample water to drink. They were kind to us and not given any weird stares or uncomfortable service like we would get from time to time because were an interracial caucasian/korean couple. All in all, I am very pleased with this place and excited to try it out on a busy night and the south side brewery too! Very happy with this restaurant!!!

If you’re a barbecue lover you will LOVE Extra Billy’s. Everything on the menu screams BBQ. I went with my family the day after Thanksgiving(best or worst idea ever, I’m still not sure…) and chowed down on some pork goodness. Whenever I visit a BBQ restaurant I typically order a pulled pork BBQ sandwich along with some artery-clogging side dishes(think mac n cheese and hush puppies) but apparently I got a wild hair up my you-know-what and ordered the Pork BBQ Nachos AND the Pork BBQ Potato Skins. Don’t worry… I split these two items with other family members. Kind of. Anywho, I am usually nervous to stray away from my usual eats at BBQ joints but these appetizers did NOT disappoint. Each of these items was large enough to be a meal in and of itself. HUGE portions, I tell ya! The potato skins were like regular potato skins(except they’re actually potato wedges) but with super sweet BBQ sauce and tender pork slathered on top. The pork nachos were cheese-laden, spicy and sweet all at the same time. Both are definitely a good choice if you want to stray from the original BBQ options. My sister in law ordered a brisket sandwich which also looked just as delicious. I will say, though, the service was pretty slow on this particular day and the restaurant seemed fairly busy. Our table sat with empty drinks a couple times before we could find our waitress again. I’m letting the food alone speak for this review. Extra Billy’s is definitely a place you’d want to visit when in the Southside of Richmond if you’re a BBQ lover. There just does’t seem to be many good BBQ places around that side of town outside of Extra Billy’s.

I wish I could give Extra Billy’s negative stars. GROSSGROSSGROSS On Tuesday July 30, 2013 my husband and I decided to try Extra Billy’s out. At the salad bar I saw a LIVEROACH walking around on the table next to the salad bar that holds the croutons and bacon fat bits. It ran behind the bowl of bacon fat bits and hid, he ran down the side of the table when I picked up the bacon fats bits bowl to show my husband what I found. I also saw a DEADROACHFLOATING in the container of Italian SALADDRESSING! No thank you! I scooped out the dead roach with the ladle and put if off to the side where hopefully an employee would see it and clean it up… or do us all a favor and set the salad bar on fire. My dinner was dry, bland and unappealing to my hungry eyes. Our waitress left much to be desired. She didn’t come across as a smart girl or as an attentive waitress but she was nice. My dry dinner made me very thirsty and I needed a refill on my drink but she didn’t come back to our table until she brought the check. I saw the manager being as useful as a wet paper towel. He leaned on the counter a lot, and sat down next to the door. I don’t get it, I’ve heard people talk about how much they like this place… but I don’t think any of those people have been to Extra Billy’s for a long long time. You can’t polish a turd Richmond, and this place is the turdiest.

Holy Pig, RVA! I cannot boast enough how simply amazing this BBQ is. One of my favorite BBQ spots in the River City, Extra Billy’s is the best place for the best pork in town. If you are diggin’ the pig, stop on in for their famous ribs or pulled pork sammies. And if you don’t have time to stop in, drive by because the smell is intoxicating. You can smell the woodburning stove outside as you pass by on Broad Street. Extra Billy’s is not short of flavor on any piece of the meal you get. From the fancy southern fixin’s to the drop your jaw desserts, this place will have you coming back for more. Want to try another style of BBQ sauce on your prideful pork meal, Extra Billy’s carries more than one. Prices are reasonable and you will always leave with a fully belly! If you are ever in the area, this is THE pork place for BBQ connoisseurs.
