Although we live in the TriState area, we get down to Virginia at least twice a year! The barbecue is smoked in enormous smokers behind the store, for over 20 hours! We usually purchase slabs of baby back ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and fried okra! Because of their well deserved television appearance, I would advise you to CALLAHEAD! If not, the wait can be long and depending on the time, they may run out of certain items!

It was OK. I enjoyed the sides Baked Beans, sweet potato fries(two thumbs up). The actual BBQ was below average. BBQ wasn’t even hot.

I know Buz and Ned’s has a solid local reputation but I have opted in the past for more under the radar type spots, specifically Alamo BBQ, which is just fantastic in every way… but on this day I decided to try B&N’s because my favorite meat is pork ribs and theirs are supposedly as good as any in Virginia. I ordered the half rack of the«extra heavy» baby back ribs, which means they’re a bit meatier than your average baby back. I found this to be true. The ribs are smoked low and slow and then are finished over direct heat, brushed with an in-house glaze until they caramelize. These ribs were AWESOME. Smoke ring present, fabulous flavor and texture from the caramelize glaze finish and overall exemplary balance of letting the meat shine and kicking it up a notch with the technique. I also slathered in the house BBQ sauce liberally and found it to be so good that I bought a bottle on my way out! Cucumber and onion salad was a winner(very tangy and refreshing) while the Mac and cheese was just fine. Garlic bread is an interesting house item but you’re better off leaving it untouched and saving room for more meat or other sides(people rave about the fried okra but I didn’t try it :( Overall, yes, it’s overpriced, but so are most BBQ joints that have been featured on Food Network. Considering the«cats outta the bag» nature of this place, I came away feeling that I had not been fleeced by my $ 26 lunch because the food was just that satisfying. I am sure the pork spare ribs are winners too! Look forward to returning for more baby backs…

i love BBQ, since I was a child. I went to this place with a friend. I really enjoyed the food, especially the ribs. The meat was tasty and tender. The sauce was also great and flavorful. Fried okra was really good too. Service surprisingly excellent.

Moist meat, tender, and flavorful. Cuke and onion side was too sweet for me. So was the lemonade. But the coleslaw was not sweet, made with sour cream, and had a touch of horseradish. The hush puppies were shaped like Vienna sausages and very tasty. The sauce was great and it wasn’t too drippy. The best side was the Cajun corn. Take an ear of corn, dip it in butter and roll it in Cajun spices. OMG, I would just order 2 of that for my sides. Coleslaw comes with it. Mac and cheese and greens are on the premium side list for a nominal charge but we wanted to try out the free sides. I want to come back and try the premium sides. No room for dessert although they had some cookies and bars that looked interesting. Great ambience, paper towels on a roll that only take one hand to pull a sheet off(thank you!). Can’t recommend this place enough!

This place if you are in Richmond has the #1 Ribs in the area, they have kind and excellent customer service, and quick to serve depending on the time. I ordered the Brisket and chicken sandwiches, with a side of there Cajun corn, fries and beer battered onion rings. All of them were on point. If you come definatly give there ribs a shot! As i was leaving a family with three children left a toy and were about to make it to there vehicle and one of the resurant workers jogged the toy out to the family before they left. Key points: –Great bbq –Family friendly –Kind and attentive staff –Not to expensive.

Interesting local Bbq joint with popular location, a few inside tables and tent covered outdoor picnic tables. Buns for the sandwiches were excellent, but the brisket flavor was bland and very mild tomato based Bbq sauce. Not much variety in other flavors, had Tabasco bottles on the tables with regular and smoked chipotle, which could add some mild heat. Got the fried okra and hush puppies as sides, both of those were excellent. Giving the restaurant an average rating as the Bbq was just bland and poor selection of sauces. Very crowded when we went, considered ordering some cornbread but the lines were too long to get in it again for a few small items, lucky we got a spot for our group of 5. Also, very poor selection of items for vegetarians, we had one with our group who ate onion rings and coleslaw, struggled to find an option for her.

Sorry, Virginians. I’m a Texas girl and back in Texas we got some pretty meaaaan Texas BBQ. I really wanted to like this place and came in unbiased but in the end, I thought it was just alright. I had to check this place out because it was on Man VS Food AND Throwdown with Bobby Flay(my food network crush). Based on the ribs alone, I would probably give this place a 4⁄5. Meaty, tender, flavorful… I got half a rack and still could not finish it. Delicious ribs but not«THEBEST». The fried okra was really good too. They use a different seasoning(Cajun?) than other places do. The fries here are alright. The garlic bread was weird — instead of salty it tasted sweet… and burnt. What I don’t like about this place is that if you don’t get ribs, all the other BBQ meats must be ordered in the form of a sandwich? I’m used to ordering meat by the pound(or half pound). The brisket here is SO plain. I took into account that it was lean brisket(where is the MARBLED brisket at though???) but it was not great. What a waste. If it didn’t have the barbecue sauce it would’ve been dryyyy. Only my mom would come here to a BBQ joint and order the fried catfish but that was surprisingly pretty good. We stopped in while traveling through Richmond. It was decent. There was definitely too much sauce on the BBQ sandwiches though. The sides of mac and cheese and sweet potatoes fries were to die for. Would give 5 stars just for the sides. Happy we tried it but was not blown away.

I am not a BBQ expert but the food seemed great and other BBQ lovers I was with really enjoyed all the meats especially the ribs. I am, however, an expert on all the sides they have ! The potato salad was amazing. Great flavor and big chunks of potato. The Cole slaw is decent with a tiny kick to it. The hush puppies were decent not too greasy. corn bread with butter was very good and moist. French fries are crispy and well seasoned. the cinnamon bourbon apples were amazing. Too full after all that to even look to see if they had dessert. Would definitely recommend if you are in town.

I eat a lot of barbeque. A LOT. If you don’t believe me, check out my other reviews. This was some delicious southern BBQ right in the heart of Richmond. This place kicks some(pork) butt. The meat is tender and the servings are absolutely massive. I got the chicken, which was alright, but the pulled pork was absolutely phenomenal. The sauce was great and the sides(fries and beans) were an excellent addition to an already excellent meal. I went on a Saturday night so there was a bit of a line, but it was worth the wait! The outdoor seating is nice in the summer months and warmer weather. I’ll absolutely be back — thanks RVA!

This is some outstanding BBQ. The rib options here are fantastic and the portions are huge. The meaty ribs are indeed very meaty and large. The baby back ribs are tender and delicious. Outside seating is plentiful and preferable for large groups.

One of the best American BBQ places I’ve eaten at. The staff are friendly and outgoing and the food are superb. The meat are so tender when I had the beef brisket and chicken sliders along with their baked beans and coleslaw. The price are reasonable for the quality and quantity of the food you’ll order. I am definitely coming back here and coming on an empty stomach to take on their famous BBQ ribs.

This place was on TV and highly rated so I had very high expectations. My friends and I arrived in the evening and we all ordered ribs. I had the baby back ribs and I’ve never had ribs so dry and hard to chew through. The flavor was lacking as well but their bbq sauce helped… a little. I thought maybe I was unlucky and had a bad rack of ribs. My friends ordered the jumbo ribs so I tried theirs to see if it was better. SAMERESULT. Dry and overall really tough. My friends and I were very disappointed. I’m hoping it was just a bad day for them but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth… literally.

You should come here for brisket. If you like that meat, this is the go-to spot in RVA. Literally did a side-by-side with Alamo and it wasn’t close. Preferred Alamo’s pulled pork, however. As is the case with so many BBQ joints, the sides are pretty forgettable. Beans were solid, potato salad was fine. The atmosphere in the spot is vaguely hunting lodge-esque. The smell of smoke permeated the whole place. Legit. Will undoubtedly come again.

Bloody hell. No wonder Bobby got the beat down– this place is rib heaven. The other meats are good too, but seriously-skip ‘em and just get the frickin ribs. I would write more but my hands are covered in bbq and rib juice… gross to admit, but true.

This place has renewed my faith for Virginia barbecue! I’ve lived in the DC area for almost 6 months and every barbecue place I’ve tried up here has been a total disappointment. Despite this, i just so happen to be in Richmond this past weekend and on a whim decided to stop by Buz and Ned’s. Glad I did because they certainly did not disappoint. The food was beyond awesome! I had ribs, fried okra and barbecue beans. And, I slayed them like a champ. Upon entry the place just gives off a good barbecue vibe. The sweet smoke aroma, barn/warehouse décor and the blues music playing in the background is foreplay preceding the deliciousness you’re about to set your teeth into. I I went in with no expectations, but walked away completely happy and FULL. I’ll definitely be back again soon.

Pretty darn good. Being from the South, I find it disheartening to not have plenty of tasty BBQ up in northern Virginia and DC. I made sure to stop by Buz and Ned’s while in Richmond and was pleasantly surprised. The order: two half racks of ribs(meaty and extra heavy baby back), onion rings, and hush puppies. Everything was done well. The ribs weren’t so soft that the meat falls off the bone but they were tasty and moist. The BBQ sauce was extremely good, too. I also found it nice that locally brewed beers are served here. I’ll return to try more of the meats if I have time on my next trip to Richmond. Just wish it were sooner!

We ordered some Buzz and Ned’s takeout for lunch at work today. They have a crazy extensive menu so it was hard to choose! I ordered the BBQ sliders and I had one of each: chicken, pork, and brisket. To be honest, the pork BBQ was a little dry… but the brisket was good! I got sweet potato fries which were seasoned with cinnamon sugar! they were also good. Their hush puppies were pretty good too. I know this seems strange, but I like the shape they come in rather than the usual ball shape. The bartender(Hannah?) was awesome and super helpful setting up our orders and getting us everything we needed! She was super sweet. However, that was the highlight as far as the service was concerned. when we entered the restaurant there was no hostess to tell us where to go to pickup our food, so we walked up to the register and this SUPER rude woman literally interrupted my friend and goes«WAIT. you’re here for pickup? you need to go over THERE»(pointing at the bar). we were like geez thanks for the help… so, maybe I’ll give them another chance, as far as the food was concerned, everything was good but their employees could be a little nicer…

Tip: Get to this place early as they open. The food is fresher and better tasting. It might take a bit longer to get your food but you actually get to see them make it for you. Was here a couple years ago for Redskins training camp. It was super busy and the food was rushed. I wasn’t impressed. Forward a few years ahead, this summer. We came here when they just opened up at 11am. We ordered, got our food 10 minutes later but the food was outstanding. Hot and fresh. Sides were okay but the hushpuppies were crazy good! This place is a must for Redskins fans who visit Richmond for training camp. It’s a bit expensive but still cheaper than the DC area.

Buz and Ned’s is the gateway to BBQ heaven. The ribs are out of this world good, and definitely the best I’ve ever had. I’m from Raleigh, NC, and the BBQ at Buz is far superior to anything in the Triangle area. I’ve passed through Richmond twice driving up North and had to stop at Buz and Ned’s to experience their BBQ masterpiece they call their spare ribs. The spare ribs are amazing! They take 20 minutes to prep, so be patient, but the wait is well worth it. The ribs are meaty, juicy, and fall off the bone tender. They are grilled and constantly brushed with sauce to develop this perfectly burnt caramelized exterior that is crunchy and full of flavor. The sauce is sweet and tangy, which makes it perfect to caramelize. I’ve tried the smoked brisket and pulled pork as well, and both are very flavorful and sauced generously. The ribs, however, are simply the best! They also have a great selection of sides to pick from. My favorites are the grilled garlic bread, bourbon spiced apples, and fried corn. The sweet potato fries and Mac n cheese are worth trying as well. Overall, I would highly recommend Buz and Ned’s. I love eating NCBBQ, but this is by far the best BBQ I’ve had. If you’re passing through Richmond, this is a must try.
