Oh man Foo Dogs is great! I could eat their Edamame all day everyday! Really cool vibe in there. And some nights they have a dj! That was fun, he played early 2000s hip hop which was my fave growing up! Anyways… The food is soooo good! I love the Chinese Style Ramen with pork. And our friends love the Chef’s special! Can’t wait to go back!

I’ve been here many times, and I have been to many ramen places. This is THE best one I’ve ever been to. Nothing compares. The food is always fresh, and is always so delicious. Best ramen and curried noodles in town.

Some of the next ramen I’ve ever had. The Malaysian Ramen always hit’s the spot. I only wish they had better hours.

We went for drinks and apps on a Thursday evening. It was crazy busy. They were on a wait, but we found two seats at the bar. I ordered their version of a margarita per the bartender’s suggestion. My bf got a draft beer. They have a really good beer selection. I wish the bartender had told us about the happy hour and«Ladies Night» specials. I mean, who doesn’t like a good deal? I still don’t know everything included as a special, but it meant $ 4 glasses of house wine. We ordered the edamame and gyoza dumplings. We opted for the pork dumplings. Omg the dumplings were amazing! I could’ve eaten 20. The edamame was standard but good. I will go back here for apps again for sure. A very trendy atmosphere, busy, and noisy inside. They do have a back patio in the summer if you prefer a little less hustle. Be sure to ask about the specials because the staff won’t tell you unless you ask. They have a «Trivia Night» on Thursdays starting at 930 that I would love to try sometime, too.

Very fun and different atmosphere. Incredible food if you enjoy Asian noodle dishes. They do movie nights and other weekly specials/Events. The staff is always very friendly, not to mention great at their jobs.

Worth the wait ! I recommend the Malaysian Curry noodles and the pork belly sliders they have here(can’t remember the name). The pork they used in the sliders and the noodles was an amazing sweet fatty taste so I will definitely return to try it again. The Malaysian curry was off the chain that’s all I can say about that. The service was amazing as well, very polite and fast and the host did a great job of checking in on us! If you like ramen you gotta try this place, cool ambiance and great food!

Sailor Moonshine and Run DMC Punch cocktails were both pretty great tasting. Appetizers we had were peppercorn calamari, which was good ate it all no problem and enjoyed it. and the pork bun app which was really good too. Kinda Disappointed in the Pad Thai though, definitely not the best and not the worst i have had. overall i will go back and try more of the menu… noise level was up, but that was kinda expected, seemed to be filled with college students from VCU.

My wife and I went after reading about this place in Richmond magazine. The squid was excellent. Tender not rubbery. We also had tuna wrapped around seaweed salad. Then we shared ramen noodles with lemon grass and tofu. The broth was silky. The noodles were to die for. The tofu was excellent too. Being that my wife and I are vegetarians but eat fish as well, we will definitely return. The only negative was the music is a bit too loud.

Only thing that would make this place better is short ribs! $ 2.50 Imperials are great during happy hour, so are the $ 4 apps Enjoyed the hits after hits on foo dog’s playlist as well.

Horrible. The ambience and the food are both horrible. Uncomfortable metal chairs like at a McDonald’s. We sent back everything we ordered(2 appetizers). Too brightly lit. Rude clientele with no class. People bump into tables and other guests constantly without apologizing, you can’t even enjoy yourself. It’s very small and always crowded. I’ve been there several times over the last year for food once and just drinks the other times since it’s close to our house. I will now avoid it like the plague. I want to give it zero stars. I’m sure it’s for some people but not us.

I’ve dined in several times now since moving to Richmond and unfortunately their standards have decreased so much. Their pad thai is no longer great tasting and instead they now add lettuce, onions and mushrooms. Their cocktails are always so inconsistent and I’ve found hair in my straws twice! I’m so sad to review that Foo Dog isn’t the same great place to get asian fusion food.

With manga murals and a menu that gives you everything from ramen to wings, Foo Dog is a spot like no other. I’m not the biggest fan of the table set up, as your options are between giant booths that fit up to 6 people or little 2-person tables wedged between the booths and the bar. The window tables are great, but few and highly sought after. So I usually end up at the bar, which for the most part still lends itself to a great night out. Not once have I been disappointed in the food, but my favorite item so far is the fish tacos. Also, those Foo Dog beer glasses are awesome.

I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. & have literally visited so often I’ve tried everything on the menu. Request for Foo Dog team: include rotating seasonal dishes so fanatics like me have an excuse for visiting for the 257th time, LOL. While some appetizers are truly appetizer-sized portions(Bao Wow, Gyoza, Tofu, Wasabi Yuzu Tuna), others are large enough to be considered main entrees(Hawker Fried Fish Tacos, Calamari, KFC.) The owner once told us that the noodles for the ramen are the same noodles Momofuku in NYC uses in their ramen. Why does this matter? Quality, friends. The broths of the different soup are definitely well crafted; methodical yet magical. It never disappoints and it always the same taste after every visit. If I were to play Kill, Hook Up, Marry between the 3 ramen dishes it would be: Kill-Chinese Style(this is lo mein); Hook Up– Japanese Style(what you can get at any other ramen shop); Marry– Malaysian Curry(one of a kind, flavorful, any protein compliments it, the go-to item if you’re indecisive.) Lacks a dessert menu, but you won’t need it with all the wonderful dishes, cocktail and bar options.

The Malaysian Ramen with tofu is FULL of flavor. A rich, coconut curry broth with chewy crinkly noodles. Big chunks of seared soft tofu added balance to the broth and noodles. However, the flavor is so rich that I kind of got a little tired of it towards the end of my bowl. All in all it was delicious and filling.

This place was awesome! We had a little hiccup in the beginning due to the inconsiderate hostess(the one that is short with the dark long hair that looks lost all the time). We walked in around 630 pm and it was a good crowd in there, with a couple counter height tables open for 2 and a booth open. I was the only person in line with my husband and daughter, we asked for a table for 2 with a booster seat(those are not counter height as we all know). She looked around, looked confused, said uh uh, just a second. Two guys come in the door and stand behind us, she smiles at them. I ask her, what about the booth that’s open, meanwhile someone that looks like a manager comes over to stand at the host table. The hostess then says, uh it’s going to be a wait for you to get a table and motions over to the two guys behind me to go sit at the booth. You kidding me? I didn’t say that, but was thinking that. The guy that looked like a manager said directly to this little girl, No, they were here first, they can sit in the booth. Thank you! That was a weird experience, but the other employee came through with the win, so all is good. We sat down and the server came to check on drinks immediately since happy hour was almost over. I forgot what drink I had(cocktail) but it was good! I ordered the malaysian bowl with pork and husband ordered the japanese bowl with chicken. Both tasted fantastic! Didn’t need the egg as many reviewers said so I didn’t order that. I will definitely be returning!

Great happy hour — apps and beer are worth it on their own. I had cider on draft with tempura hreimp for 7 bucks total. The pad thai was great, but the noodles are curry and ginger and coconuts that taste fantastic !! Fair prices and quick service.

I might be a bit biased as I’ve eaten ramen from all over the country. Foo Dog’s ramen is decent, not the best nor very authentic but definitely edible. Their shrimp appetizer and grilled squid was pretty good. I definitely give credit for them bringing a ramen scene to Richmond and hope more pop up soon!

I’m new to RVA(just moved here from Lynchburg), so perhaps my food expectations are lesser than some of the reviewers here, but I just had a wonderful dinner at Foo Dog. My wife and I had friends visiting town, and they said that they wanted to eat somewhere affordable with good beer. Foo Dog has both. The happy hour is great, the drinks were great, and the prices are beyond reasonable(almost the entire menu is under $ 10!). The service was acceptable. Not bad but also not stellar or memorable-she got us what we needed, and that is good enough. The beer selection was impressive for an Asian place, and the lemongrass chicken dumplings were REALLY good. Following that, I had the Japanese Ramen with pork and a deliciously poached egg. Everything from the sauce to the fantastically tender pork hit the spot. I loved it and finished the whole bowl. I also love the décor of the place. It’s hip but not hipster. It’s quirky but not cliché(the abundance of Bruce Lee stencils almost put me over the edge, but I do like them.) The places feels fun and new, which makes for a great dining experience. A couple suggestions: Service could be a bit more friendly. I don’t remember much about my server aside from her plopping things on the table(I also don’t remember her name.) She wasn’t rude, and she certainly didn’t ruin my dining experience, but she didn’t excel either. The Japanese Ramen, while delicious, needed more of a zesty kick. Maybe add some citrus to the dish. A great establishment doing great things. Thank you Foo Dog for an affordable and delicious dining experience. I will return again.

I’ve been here twice and had mixed experiences. The ramen itself was flavorful, the Malaysian w/pork was really good. I wouldn’t compare it to other«true» ramen places but for it was, it was worth the price. The pork buns were soggy, too much sauce and not enough meat. The curry fried chicken was a disappointment, it lacked the curry flavor and it was oily. It’s a great hip joint when you’re craving basic ramen but I would be wary trying their other items.

I’m a big fan of Fat Dragon so I when I heard that EAT Restaurant Partners opened up a spot in the Fan that pays homage to Asian street food, I had to check it out pronto. I first tried to get a table at Foo Dog on a super busy Friday evening at 9:30pm, but this place was SOPACKED with hungry ramen-goers that there was a 30-minute wait so alas, my ravenous tummy forced me to eat elsewhere that night. But my second attempt was a success when my fiancé and I dropped in for an early dinner before catching a show at the Altria. It was a freezing night and there’s only one cure for that — steamy bowls of slurp-tastic ramen soup! You won’t find any of that instant stuff here — this is the real deal, folks! But first, we started with a plate of Foo Wings in Fiery Foo Dog Signature Sauce. «Fiery» is a bit of a misnomer, it had just enough spice but not enough heat to give it a real kick. The wings were lightly fried so you can still taste the meat and sauce and I love that we got all flat wings as opposed to wing drumettes — I feel that the meat in flat wings is always moister. If the spice factor were bumped up, then these wings would be a home run in my book. RAMENBOWLS –THOSE. NOODLES. So springy, so chewy, so perfect. –Japanese style ramen with house made pork broth: this was my first time trying authentic Japanese ramen and I loved every bite. I topped my soup with Chasu pork(braised pork belly) which was delicious, but a tad too rich with the double dosage of pork broth and meat. Still, I adored this soup and will probably add just a poached egg or shrimp next time. –Malaysian style ramen with coconut curry broth: if you’re a fan of Panang curry, then this soup is right up your alley. My guy topped his soup with a lovely skewer of grilled shrimp. The coconut broth might be too rich for some palates, but he was a big fan. Foo Dog seems to be bursting with customers at all hours of the day thanks to its comforting and affordable food, daily happy hour from 4pm-7pm, and prompt service. I look forward to trying more of their small plate options and of course, I’ll be slurping on another bowl of delicious ramen.
