The food is fantastic, plus you can customize like crazy. I’ve been several times and still feel overwhelmed by the options, but thankfully the staff is helpful and nice about it. You MUST get a roll of kimbap.(And I highly recommend dining in and getting dolsot.) K-pop fans will appreciate the music. Through all my visits, I still haven’t dared to try the more fusiony offerings, so I’m not sure about that — but as far as bibimbap goes, it’s a great — must have — very affordable experience. Very perfect for people who are new to Korean food, but very satisfying for those who love it.

This place is insanely good. The owners are great and will patiently walk you through the process that without fail ends up with you enjoying a delicious bowl of awesomeness! It is so reasonable price wise too! The only negative I can think of(and it is not really a negative) is that this is a predominately take out place. While they have a few tables and chairs, it feels more like a sit and wait for food area. Try it. You won’t regret it!

Happy to know that this restaurant that started it all is not only going strong but has opened another location as well. The staff is über friendly and the owner being a former Soldier and myself being a current one he offers a Military Discount. I always get the Dol Sot bowl, but experiment with all the different fresh toppings, you won’t be disappointed with the service or taste… listen to this 2015 and 2016 Elite Unilocaler and go here

This is just a place to eat in a strip plaza. But who cares. For $ 8.99 you get a bowl of deliciousness. You’re not coming here for the atmosphere because there is zero of that. But enjoy some flavors that are healthy and vibrant for the same price as a wretched fast food meal, and feel good that you’ll leave full and thinking — dang — wish this place was closer to my office/home! I recommend the Dolsot(bowl) First, you pick white, brown, or purple rice(not sure what the purple is) and then 5 vegetables from a wide assortment. I asked for guidance and wanted as authentic an experience as possible, so went with what the associate stated were the«traditional» vegetables — plus shitake mushroom. Then you can either have them baked or not(for sure YES! this harmonizes the flavors. Otherwise it’s a salad.) After that, you select a meat — chicken, beef, or spicy pork. I had the spicy pork and it was great. Not too spicy, but very tasty. Last choice is with/without egg, and either sunnyside up, or scrambled(which is really molded). Get the egg. The whole bowl is put in the oven, then a sauce is added, it’s mixed up, and served with a garnish. You have three sauces at the table — traditional, spicy, and sweet. The traditional is the most flavorful. So much fun to get chopsticks to eat, and then each bite becomes a different taste combination with all the vegetables, meat, egg, sauce combinations. I’m getting so hungry writing this. UGH! Why is Gogi Bibimbap so far from where I work!!!

Great food, great service, and overall experience was GREAT! We’ve been to both locations and they don’t miss a beat. If you are on the W Broad or Midlothian you can’t go wrong. Quick, flavorful, and affordable…

Super place. More like a Korean Subway; select bowl or platter, I picked bowl, then white, brown, or purple rice(purple! New one on me so I picked it), 5 types of veggies, and chicken, spicy pork, or beef. I did the spicy pork. And when they ask if you want an egg on top say yes by all means! Mine was over easy. The bowl when it came out was huge, and as I mixed the ingredients the delicious odors hinted at the delight that was to come! So delicious, and a choice of sauces to add although the spicy pork was just spicy enough to satisfy my friend’s tolerance for heat. I added just a touch of spicy sauce, and gobbled it all down. So delicious. Can’t recommend it enough. Small eat-in space, we got there at 11:45 and were by ourselves, but when the lunch rush hit the place filled up quickly. Clean eating, but doesn’t feel like you’re giving anything up.

I love that you can choose what kind of veggie to put in your bibimbap. I also love that the price is reasonable, unlike other expensive Korean restaurants. One star less because they don’t carry my other favorite Korean dishes: seafood soon dubo(tofu soup), japchae(sweet potato noodles with mixed veggies) and seafood pancakes. But other than that everything is great, including service.

This was my first time eating Korean food, so this is review is not indicative of the authenticity of the food, as I am not qualified to to judge. However, whether or not this is «Americanized» Korean food, it is tasty, quick, and affordable. I got the spicy pork bibimbap with the five traditional veggies and fried egg. As this was once a Quiznos, it is set up as many have said as the«Chipotle» of Korean food. The two women serving my co-workers and me were very friendly and informative after we told them it was our first time. Servings were very large, and you could probably make two lunches out of it if you have a small appetite like myself. I loved the sauces on the table, and the spicy one had a real kick! I’m glad that Gogi is near my office, as it was a hit with the coworkers, we will certainly be returning.

HUGEFAN! I am not really rating this against any other Bibimbap restaurants, as this is my first. However, everything here is so tasty. I have had both the spicy pork and the chicken bulgogi– I have to say the spicy pork is the best! I didn’t realize until my 3rd try that you can get your bowl cooked! But with the fried eggs and the raw veggies, I find it perfect the way it’s served. The staff here is always so helpful and friendly. A must have!

Well, they aren’t closed! And I’m glad I gave them another try, as on my first visit I came during posted hours and they were closed. Fantastic traditional Dol Sot with Spicy Pork Bulgogi! The portion is HUGE, and could feed two, but I suggest you don’t share. It is just too good, and you wouldn’t want to be sneering at your dining companion for consuming those spoon fulls that you will crave even after you’re full. Service was friendly, fast and professional. I will be back and I suggest you try it!

Chipotle style Korean Bibimbap. The service was good and food prepared quick. Bibimbap(Bibim=mix Bap=rice) is a traditional korean dish where you grab whatever you have in your fridge(banchan=side dishes) and mix it with rice and an egg. Over the years, more uniform tradition ways of bibimbap have been made. The prices are affordable and the portions are large. Don’t be alarmed, it is not too spicy but they do offer three different sauces(tradition red pepper«not too spicy», mild«seemed like teriyaki-based?», and spicy sauce«which I loved» Make sure to try it with a sunny side up egg. They do offer a variety of other things as well such as korean dumplings(mandoo). I wish they opened up at MCV campus as I would eat there everyday! =] «as long as the portion stays the same»

I’m not reviewing Gogo Bibimbap as a Korean restaurant, because I don’t know the cuisine well enough to do that. I am reviewing it as a place to get a casual and flavorful lunch or dinner for a very reasonable price. There is nothing on their menu that’s bizarre or even exotic by today’s standards. I’d say it’s a place where you just need to trust the restaurant that your food will be delicious. On my first visit I played ignorant to any knowledge of Korean food, which was 100% accurate. I’d eaten bibimbap once before in my life but didn’t know what I was doing, or even how to eat it properly. So I asked for their namesake meal prepared the«traditional» way. I had options like a salad bar but wanted to taste it the Korean way before I tried to mess it up myself. They handed me a bowl of delicious food full of great flavor. I’ve since been back 3 or 4 times and enjoyed it each time, modifying my order only by the type of meat and the sauce I chose.(Pssst…they’re all good!) I can’t say whether this is a great representation of Korean food, for Richmond or anywhere. What I can say is that they’re friendly, well-priced, and make a delicious bowl of food! I can’t wait to become the Duke.

Awesome spot if you’re looking for something quick and tired of the usual fast food chains. You can customize your order, much like subway and chipotle, or you can go plain. My favorite is the beef bulgogi and white rice. I haven’t taken advantage of adding any additional toppings and I think that says a lot. It’s awesome as is! Only complaint I have is that it’s priced a little more than the typical fast food chains. My order alone is about $ 13. Not super steep but when you’re tightening up on expenses from eating out, coming here will add up fairly quickly. Still worth it though!

You guys must not know what Korean food is. This is definitely Americanized-Subway style Korean food. I tried the spicy chicken bulgogi with vegetable mandoo and purple rice. Very disgusting and no flavor. I was already regretting that I still ordered even with having a bad gut feeling about this place, but my girlfriend and I were hungry. She got the bibimbap, which was very mediocre. Food was horrible and I really wish I looked at the Unilocal pictures because the food looks horrendous. Even the Korean tacos. Wtf? I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Went here for the first time today, and it was a wonderful time indeed! It’s conveniently located near the theater, ice rink, and mall, which I go to quite often, so Gogi Bibimbap is definitely a new go-to for a quick, nicely priced bite to eat. Though, I was expecting a bit more variety. The employees were super friendly and made me feel at home by engaging in conversations with me as if I was a member of their family. All in all, it’s a great restaurant, and is also yet another wonderful Korean place in RVA! Keep it comin’!

While on the path towards getting out of my comfort zone and trying foods from different cultures, I stumbled across Gogi Bibimbap. Although I’ve been to Bonchon plenty of times, I had never tried the Bibimbap or any other Korean cuisine. From first impression, Gogi Bibimbap had the same set up as Subway/Chipotle. You place your order, say what add ons you want and pay for it. But as a person who likes to try new things, I dove into the experience with an open mind. So how did my experience go? To find out, read below. The Good: Price/Portion of Veggies– I ordered the regular Bibimbap bowl which was $ 6.99 not including tax. The portion of the veggies that were included with the dish was definitely plentiful and I did not leave the experience feeling hungry. Taste of Spicy Pork Bulgogi– The spicy pork had a unique taste with just the right amount of heat to the dish. I liked it. Customer Service– The employees were very friendly. There was an incident where I was standing in line waiting for an employee to take my order and out of nowhere, some other customer stands in front of me and thought he was going to order before me. Before I could put him in his place, the employee informed him that I was next in line which diverted a potential showdown. The Not So Good: Portion of Spicy Pork Bulgogi– I am a man with a big appetite, but I didn’t get much spicy pork with my dish. I guess because meat is more expensive than veggies, I just would have liked some more. Overall Taste of the Dish– The taste wasn’t bad for my first Bibimbap experience, but there was nothing truly special about the overall dish that would make me want to make Gogi my new go to dine in spot. Overall– Affordable prices, great customer services, decent food. Its not perfect, but its worth giving another try or two. FOURSTARS.

Unassuming location but a great little spot. Both the dol sot bibimbap and skillet are good, and we strongly recommend you get the spicy pork — the marinade is garlicky and has decent kick. The gochujang sauce on the table adds great flavor and the spiciest is a very manageable heat. Service was very quick(food in 4 – 5 minutes) and really nice — always love to support a small business! Strongly suggest you try!

Korean food has once again eluded me in the city of RVA. Then again, I wasn’t expecting much of this place. although the highly rated Unilocal reviews gave me some glimmer of hope. Came for an early dinner around 4PM and we were the only patrons. The Interior/furnishings reminded me exactly of a subway and the ordering is pretty similar too. I got the beef bulgogi skillet with extra protein. They run the skillet through the same oven you see at subway to toast your bread(unusual?). Also got a side of Kimchi. The beef bulgogi to me was a little dry, over cooked and chewy. the flavors were just okay but since it was overcooked It pretty much ruined the whole dish. I think my gf liked her bowl a lot more than I did. Service was pretty quick and everything was MTO besides the fried egg on top of my gf’s bibimpab bowl. Clean restaurant and good prices. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this restaurant but glad I tried it to see what they had to offer.

The«Chipotle» of bibimbap. Nice ordering system of type of rice, 5 veggie choices, and a protein. Love that they offer brown rice. For the dolsot they will pop it in the oven with an egg over hard. Finally you get a regular or spicy Korean red sauce. Fairly fast and affordable and very tasty, especially the tender spicy pork. The veggies seemed a little old but after being in the oven it did not matter. Also the egg was too well done and the rice not crispy like in a traditional hot stone bowl. Also need more sauce or provide ketchup like bottles for people to use. Despite those criticisms it was super tasty! This place seems ready to be franchised and put in the city proper. Seems like it could fit on Main st of the Fan or Willow lawn. The address via Unilocal also makes it confusing but keep going past the Golds Gym and Starbucks. You cannot see it from the street.
