It was fine, but weird, but… let me try to explain. It has a ‘dive bar’ look/feel…yet I(wrongly???) understood their ‘concept’ to be comfort food, grandma’s, etc. The grilled cheeses we shared were decent enough, but for that price… at least give me something other than plain white bread!!! Also had the pimento cheese(yes…I love cheese! Hence why I came here…) and poutine for aps. The pimento cheese was okay(didn’t appear to be homemade) and the poutine — ummm… holy gravy! Tasted like straight French onion soup mix(out of a box).

Inside is cozy. Caps fans welcome. Had a pickle back, homemade & absolutely delicious. I could drink that without the whiskey all day. First time having poutine, of course it’s good duh. Had the WTF(yes, that is WTF) and loved it – Smoked brisket was delicious, and I love love love the fried sage as well. What a fantastic idea. Tried the Piedmont too and that was great – Very cheesy and the chick pea salad had great flavor. The tomato soup was good, but my mind was blown from the grilled cheese so my recollection on the soup is hazy. Plan on coming back until I knock out the whole menu. Looking forward to trying brunch. Highly recommend!

This place is awesome! Stopped in during snowstorm Jonas and the owner was behind the bar and ended up opening the kitchen when it got busy. The food is delicious! Definitely try the Mac and me, the upstate, or WTF! They are all delicious

I cannot rave enough about Home Sweet Home! I’ve been 3 times in the past week. The food is FANTASTIC. So far, I’ve tried the Piedmont, WTF(yes, it’s a sandwich!), River City, fried pickles, french fries, and Tatouine(tater-tot poutine). I have yet to be disappointed. Their bar is also very fairly priced, especially at Happy Hour(4pm-8pm weekdays, I believe), and the bartenders are great at what they do. This place is gluten-free friendly, too! My friend has Celiac, and she was able to order her WTF on gluten-free Montana Gold bread. No serious up-charge for gluten-free bread, which is tough to find. Super chill and casual atmosphere. GREAT place to watch a Caps game with fellow fans. Pretty standard to just walk in and sit wherever. It’s helpful if you’re in view of the bartender, so they can make sure you’re served quickly! Only wish they were open before 4pm on weekdays. :) Love this place to pieces!

Since I first heard about this place it has been on my radar for awhile to come here and eat. I mean honestly who doesn’t love a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich?! My parents where driving down to Richmond and my brother and I thought this would be the best place to take them, and it didn’t disappoint! Since I was still at work(work in Carytown so not to far from here) my family ordered the hummus appetizer while they waited for me to get there. Thankfully they left me some cause the hummus was great! Also it’s a pretty great size portion! When we finally all together we went ahead and ordered. My parents both got the upstate, brother got the Mac and cheese sandwich and I chose the Chesapeake. You can get either fries or soup(only tomato) as your side. Now we ordered a large for the table since our waitress said its super big enough to feed all of us. So after we ordered our fries came out and the waitress gave us their homemade ketchup. Now I love ketchup so I was eager to try this, it was odd, not terrible but odd. It had the same texture and flavor like applesauce. Like I said not the worst thing I’ve tried just really strange. Now on to the main event, the grilled cheese! Mine looked beautiful honestly just thinking about it now makes me want to go back and eat that damn beautiful creation! The Chesapeake is their crab dip with Swiss and spinach. What I loved is the fact that the crab dip was just oozing out of the sandwich and when I went to take a bite it was just heaven! The rest of my family loved their’s as well. Also now I’m not a tomato soup person but I always try things, your taste buds change so try things you never liked before, and I loved that tomato soup. Probably couldn’t eat the whole thing but it has the taste of marina sauce. Overall, this place is cute, cozy and their sandwiches are on point! I mean made my mother happy and she knows grilled cheese since has made me a shit ton of grilled cheeses as a kid. So if this something mothers approve of you gotta try it!

Full disclosure. I have been here once. I will go again if I am in the area. I got the mac and me sandwich. It is a house made mac and cheese and smoked pork barbecue on toasted white bread. which was great! I am somewhat of a barbecue snob and I thought the BBQ was nicely done and had a good smoke flavor for the limited portion I got. The person I was with ordered a WTF– it is smoked brisket, caramelized onions, and fried sage leaves on toasted sourdough bread. Again, another winner. Both were served with a small, small«cup» of tomato soup. Server was very friendly and on top of things, despite it being crowded. Kitchen was a little slow, but it was crowded. The appetizers we got were good enough to ask for another round. The menu is limited to appetizers, a brisket and a pork sandwich and grilled cheese sandwiches. I know Cary St is an expensive area, hence my only complaint; It was $ 9 for a grilled cheese sandwich and a shot of soup. While BBQ was enjoyable, I only got about a tablespoon or so serving on the sandwich. Other than the price, I could easily rate it 4 stars. However, I like local places and would much rather eat here and pay a little extra than eat at a chain. I will try it again when it is not so crowded and see what happens.

Let me start by saying I love me some grilled sammies! However, I was visiting from out of town and my brother found this little place. We walked in and were quickly given a table, it was Wednesday night and the place was almost empty. I think there was one or two other tables occupied. It then took about 5 minutes to be greeted by the bartender, who gave us all waters? Slightly odd it took that long I thought. Our server then came out and took our drink orders and appetizer order. We decided on some tater tots and crab and cheese dip. after our drinks finally arrived, about 10 minutes later(we all ordered soda) our server took our order. She seemed very nice but slightly frustrated about something. Anyway, about 35 minutes goes by and we finally get our… meal? no apps? The server said they would be right out. I was very confused at this point. about a minute later our apps came out. I am not sure if they understand this should come out first? Anywho, the food I would give 4 stars, it was very good. Once it arrives. I would hate to see this place on a busy night. Overall, our server spent far more time at the end of the bar sitting watching tv, I personally saw the cook texting on his cell phone while we waited. At one point he even high fived a customer and didn’t wash his hands(after we were served thankfully). It was a very odd night. I would choose another place in Carytown personally.

Stopped in Richmond on our way from DC to Raleigh and found this place. Wife and I had some great grilled cheeses(Mac and me!) and enjoyed the no frills, quick and good food vibe.

Farewell Mezzanine, welcome Home Sweet Home. Comfort food and sweet cocktails with cute names. Bad for the body but good for the soul. Brunch on Saturday is served until 3PM. On a whim, I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu, A Rough Night($ 10) — truffle fries topped with mac and cheese, gravy, surry sausage, and a fried egg– aka your hangover and/or your diet’s worst enemy. Oh so sinfully delicious. We also ordered the Mac and Me sandwich– mac and cheese and pulled pork barbecue on sourdough– with a side of tomato soup, which was topped with a Goldfish cracker snack. Cute. Sweet, savory, salty all in one. Staff was super friendly. Exactly what you would expect at a place called Home Sweet Home.

Welcome to the neighborhood! I’m a fan! I’ve been here about three times now(maybe two). I’m a simple man — I just take a grilled cheese(American on wheat). it comes with a side of tomato soup. I’m a notoriously picky eater. The sandwich was perfect(golden grilling and not burnt, nice bread). The amazing thing is when I try something new — and that was their tomato soup(I was diagnosed with a «food phobia» who the Hell knew something like that existed, and how does someone with a food phobia end up on Unilocal). I almost ate the entire dish — it was really the perfect compliment to the meal. The fact that I could even eat one spoon without having to fight my gag reflex is a testament to Home Sweet Home. I brought my roommate here my second or third time, and she had one of the more adult grilled cheese versions — she enjoyed it and ate. Mixed drinks are budget friendly, especially at Happy Hour. Monday night(or maybe that one Monday night I went) they have Karaōke, so the second floor can be lively and loud. But that’s OK.

I found the place just okay. I love grilled cheese but there was nothing that wowed me enough that I’d pick it out of other options on Cary. The soup was a nice touch as a side versus traditional fries or chips like other places. I will say the fried pickles were really good. Overall I feel like this place lacks atmosphere. The walk up to the front door was through a tarped enclosure for the outside deck filled with smokers so that was an immediate turn off. Getting inside felt like there was no change between previous tenants Mezzanine and the new joint aside from the staff and the obnoxiously bright flat screens upstairs. Apparently there’s a rock band game night on Mondays around 9 pm. I’m willing to give it another chance and try a different sandwich to see if it has more flavor, but overall it’s not winning me over as something that’s better than what I make at home for less.

The fact that I love grilled cheese Sammie’s made this a very nice evening. I had the grilled cheese, W/mac & cheese, loaded w/BBQ and a side of fries. The fries were somewhat close to string fries in my opinion. Our server and the management couldn’t have been friendlier or nicer. I’m sure there’s a few kinks to work out. They have a crab cake grilled cheese that I was told was really good. My wife had the Piedmont grilled cheese which had hummus, spinach and of course cheese. You can get sharp cheddar or mozzarella plus other cheeses w/different Sammie’s. I’d say their selection of draft beer was spot on. The sammie’s come w/tomato soup, the fries are a bit extra. The food is good, it’s inexpensive and I’d say the menu will expand but it’s still really good if you like unique grilled cheese. Drop In you’ll like it. I’ll be back. Three stars is a very good score for my first visit.

The food was good and the staff was crazy nice. Decent selection of beer and a creative combinations of grilled cheese sandwiches or build your own. Bonus points for London Calling playing during our visit! We’ll go back for sure.

I’ve only had the crab dip and a couple of the sandwiches but everything so far has been great. Atmosphere is laid back and the staff is extremely friendly. Bonus points for old school video game night. Welcome addition to the neighborhood.
