Took a guy to the Richmond Symphony(masterworks) — hair/nails/makeup done, jewels, princess gown… the works — and he proposed marriage at the end of the night. True story. Now, you don’t HAVE to do white tie for the symphony anymore. It’s much more accessible these days. But you SHOULD! Or at least black tie. What I’m saying to you is the symphony is an experience. If you have any soul whatsoever, you will be moved. You will be inspired. You will be elevated to heights reserved for the divine. I realize that such high culture to most is seen as a luxury, but it’s a luxury that we all deserve. If the masterworks is beyond your grasp, do a pops. The Richmond Symphony has something for everyone, and they do a good job of programming to meet different interests. They even have a Lolli“pops” for kids! Go. You’re worth it.

Most of us only go to see the symphony if they’re doing a holiday show and I’m guilty of that too. The cool thing, though, about the RIchmond Symphony is that they do so much more than just classical music concerts. If you have children, they have kid-friendly concerts on Saturdays, music classes, and summer orchestra camps. My niece, Kira, is a budding violinist and I’ve really enjoyed going to her school concerts. She even got to meet contemporary violin virtuoso, Mark Wood, at one of her school programs. I think she would love orchestra summer camp or music classes with the symphony. During the summer, the symphony usually does one or two free shows at one of the area parks, so you can pack a picnic and enjoy an outdoor evening. And, every fall their big fundraiser is a tour of a decked-out designer house and that’s always a very cool thing to do.
