Placed a delivery order recently and was very happy. I loved being able to customize my noodle bowl and everything arrived piping hot and delicious. The dumplings are also on point!

Very awesome. Best ramen I’ve had in Richmond. We’ve been searching for good noodles and this place delivered. We were super satisfied with our bowls and the staff was really attentive to my partners questions when ordering. Will def be back.

My first time at spiral noodles and upon coming in I was in love with the street art graffiti on the walls. Definitely I got the vibe that this place is up my alley. I loved the cool lighting that gave it a fun atmosphere for young people. Since the percentage of people off Cary street are local college students and young professionals. it makes it great for group outings. Happy hour is from 5−7pm and they have a good selection of beer and appetizers to choose from. I decided to go with the create your own soup. You can concoct your own soup creation. I chose to make a classic ramen with egg noodles, shrimp tempura, fish cake, bok Choy and sunny side up egg. Then I went to the sauce bar. It was a vast selection. I got the spicy mayo to add to my tempura shrimp and lime and eel sauce. I also tried the black bean chili paste. Once my order was brought to me. I first noticed my egg wasn’t sunny side up, and my tempura was beginning to get completely soggy in the soup. I immediately placed my shrimp tempura to the side so it can remain crispy. I added some soy sauce and chili seasoning on the table because it lacked some flavor. With the sauces from the sauce table and additional seasoning the soup tastes good. I’ve had authentic ramen several times. This soup lacked a bit of flavor compared to homemade ramen and other soups that take a lot of time to making the broth. It’s definitely an Asian fusion place that can cater to everyone’s different taste palates. I could’ve chose to make me a phở dish or a classic teriyaki or rice plate but the ramen did its job in warming my belly. I also ordered the the Ika(squid) balls and the jasmine pearl drink. The squid balls were ok, nothing to rave about because it was a little too much batter to my liking. My sister enjoyed it though. My jasmine milk tea tasted good but I would have asked to have it without the boba or tapioca. The tapioca was really chewy and not cooked all the way through. But overall I recommend this place for the price of happy hour and if you want a little Asian fusion and want to try your own at making your own soup or rice dish. Don’t expect to come having authentic Asian cuisine but to enjoy the atmosphere with friends that enjoy the artsy vibe and make your own choice of noodle soup dishes or rice dishes.

The boyfriend P and I were walking around CaryTown when he decided on whim that we should try Spiral Noodle. He found the name intriguing. Upon entry of this restaurant, I would say its design is very… interesting to say the least. The bright colored artwork is just not for me I guess. But we’re here to talk about the food! P and I both decided to make our own bowl. MYBOWL: Japanese Ramen, Boneless Pork Chop, Topping set B which was recommended for Japanese tonkotsu soup(this included: crab stick, boiled egg, shiitake mushroom, japanese pickle, naruto fish cake), and Japanese tonkotsu Soup. P’S BOWL: I can’t remember exactly what he ordered but it was something along the lines of Vietnamese beef phở broth with japanese Udon. Verdict: Food was just OK. I guess I am pretty biased because I am from Los Angeles, CA and I have had some FREAKINGGOOD ramen so when I compare to those places — this place is not one I would come to. HOWEVER, being that I am currently in Richmond, VA — there just isn’t as many options and you kind of have to just take what you get. So if you’re really craving ramen and in the area, then sure come here.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. I absolutely hate the design of this place. Gaudy colored lights and bright«art» painted on the walls. People who might consider eating here surely are repelled by it. It will definitely give you a headache, if not inspire you to violence. It also seems to be a place that attracts families with loud kids. All of that aside, the food is decent, and the portions are large. You can order rice or noodle bowls your way, or pick from chef’s recipes. They offer quite a variety of noodles and recommend toppings based on different Asian styles of food. If it’s Vietnamese, get this. If it’s Japanese, get that. Of course, you’re free to choose whatever you’d like. The service is friendly and prompt, and they offer a sauce bar in the back, which is pretty cool if you want to try different flavors for dipping or seasoning. I ended up at Spiral after not being able to find a parking spot at Shoryuken Ramen in the Fan, which is much more subdued in atmosphere.

I like this place a lot! I love the way the inside looks! It’s a cool set up and love the art on the walls, the flooring, and the lighting especially! Super decently priced for the portions you get and I like how you pick your ingredients and what kind broth you want. I always get shrimp tempura on my ramen :) I live in Fredericksburg and there’s no ramen places around here, the drive to Richmond is definitely worth it to eat here!

Loved it! My BF and I live in Carytown and I’ve been meaning to try Spiral for a while. We went tonight right at the tail end of happy hour. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they do HH7 days a week! Their draft list had a lot of the things crossed out so I didn’t get to try anything too special, but hey, $ 3 Bold Rock? Not too shabby. We ordered 3 appetizers, since they were $ 2 off. The octopus balls were tasty, but the real treat was the calamari. Perfectly seasoned, crunchy, accompanied by pretty spicy pepper bits. Honestly I could’ve been done with the meal after that. The calamari was SO. GOOD. I got a make-your-own noodle bowl with Japanese pork broth, udon noodles, and boneless pork chop. As mentioned by others, the broth was less flavorful than at other noodle places. I wasn’t put off by this, though, as I thought it really let the protein and noodles take center stage. And for $ 9, the portion is HUGE. I can’t wait to eat my leftovers for breakfast tomorrow. One thing I would change– servers ought to practice coursing the food. We ordered drinks and apps together, and then there server took our soup orders when she dropped the drinks. The food comes out FAST, and we had only taken a few bites of our apps when the soup came. Next time I’ll hold off on ordering the soup until we’re halfway done with our apps. Still, who complains about having too much delicious food on their table?! It’s just something to be aware of. All in all, I’m really hoping Spiral does well, so we can make it a regular spot in our carytown rotation.

I was super stoked to hear about a new specialty noodle place opening up in RVA. If there’s something that I love to eat, it’s noodles and lots of it! This place maintained the visual vibe of the last business(RIP Yapple) with their crazy animé and colorful inspired wall art drawings and bright lights. We came on a Friday evening for Dinner and this place was completely dead… there was maybe one other table occupied and the amount of employees out numbered the patrons. To describe their style of food/ordering system: they have all types of noodles you can think of: udon, vermicelli, Chinese flat wide noodles, and ramen noodles and they also carry some rice based dishes as well. You can either create your own and pick your base, protein, and soup flavor and add your desired toppings or you can get one of their specialty noodle bowls. I got the flat wide noodles(my favorite) with stir fried pork(according to the waitress, but it was actually beef when it came out, no big deal). My food was okay, noodles were cooked well and the beef was cooked a good medium rare but it was too salty and didn’t have any other flavors besides the salt. I also got an order of Garlic Parmesan wings which was probably my first mistake at a noodle house; these were also salty and didn’t taste any different from some other places. The cool thing about this place is that they have a sauce bar!!! The only other place I have seen this is a hot pot place in NOVA. This sauce bar included: oyster sauce, sesame oil, hoison sauce, ponzo, soy sauce, fish sauce, sweet soy sauce, etc Our waitress was friendly and attentive and the prices are about average for a restaurant in Carytown. I really want to like that place but for my first visit I was not impressed.

I have walked/driven by the place several times so I was excited to finally try it! The only thing remaining from the Yapple that stood here before is the colorful ball lights on the ceiling. It’s a big space with a decent number of tables and chairs, crazy wall paintings, and a bright, colorful atmosphere. Our service throughout the meal was attentive and good overall. As for the food, we were brought a drink menu, a laminated appetizer menu, and a long strip paper menu. The paper strip is for ordering the create-your-own noodle bowl, which comes with your choice of noodle, protein, broth, and five toppings(additional charge for add-ons above and beyond that included by default). If you just order the standard noodle bowl for $ 9, it’s a pretty good deal considering how large the portion is. It also happened to be happy hour from 5−7PM, so all appetizers were $ 2 off. I decided to order the takoyaki and a bowl of Korean glass noodles with pork, two kinds of mushrooms, bean sprouts, bok choy, and zucchini in Japanese tonkotsu broth. The takoyaki was phenomenal, nice and crispy, and came with four balls(would be a little pricey without the $ 2 discount though). The noodles were good, although I would have preferred my soup even hotter, and the broth was not quite as flavorful as I was expecting for a bone broth. Overall, this is a fun space and the only place thus far I know of to offer such customizable noodle options. Definitely come here for a nice comforting bowl of personalized noodle soup, especially with the winter approaching!

Spiral Noodle was a fun, fun experience — from the interior décor to the food! When you first walk in, you’re immediately drawn to the amazing artwork on the walls and colorful interior. The atmosphere is great and super hip. The menu for this restaurant is very diverse! My table ordered deep fried mandou(?) and takoyaki for appetizers! Each came in four pieces. I think the mandou is new to the menu because I don’t see it on the online menu right now, but basically it’s a deep fried piece of dough — very similar to a donut. It’s super, super soft and fluffy and just delicious *^* The takoyaki was also extremely good! I wish they gave more since it is pretty expensive($ 5) for 4 pieces… For main course they also offer a variety of dishes, but they’re known for your make your own noodle/bowl format where you can pick from a variety of different noodles, to proteins, to broths, and toppings. I made a veggie ramen bowl and chose the recommendations for the Japanese tonkotsu soup(but with the veggie broth), so my bowl wasn’t that flavorful — but my friends loved their bowls(they recommend the steak or pork belly for protein with Japanese tonkotsu soup). One friend said the phở was also pretty good! Overall, wonderful service and really cool concept and atmosphere(:

I like the freedom of building your own bowl and choosing your ingredients. They also have a nice selection of sauces & condiments which makes the whole ritual interesting and playful. Although I didn’t find the taste to be unique. I ordered a ramen soup with shrooms and some other veggies as well as fried tofu, and it was lacking some taste even after all the condiments I generously added. My husband tried the pork belly udon pot and he wasn’t amazed by it either. Overall the soups tasted too plain. The service on the other hand was close to perfect. Maybe their appetizers are a better of a choice. Additionally, the crowd seems to be young college kids and the atmosphere is casual.

Great food and nice atmosphere. I really enjoyed the calamari along with my ramen bowl with steak. The steak was moist and I’d certainly try other proteins next time. Go here when you’re hungry because portions are huge!

Probably my favorite new ramen place in Richmond! The ramen is not the most authentic, but it’s very tasty and not too salty as most ramen places are in this area. I love how customizable the bowls are — you can do ramen, udon, rice noodles, Korean glass noodles, or even rice and there are tons of toppings to choose from. They’re also pretty generous with their serving sizes and toppings. For example, usually ramen places will give you only about two or three pieces of Naruto maki, but Spiral made mine with plenty of it, which is great because they’re probably my favorite ramen topping. The meat was also cooked perfectly and was not dry at all. The service was friendly as well. The atmosphere is very unique and trendy with murals by artist Matt Lively on the walls and colorful lights illuminating the ceiling. The only thing I didn’t like was that the presentation of my ramen was a bit sloppy — not good for a person like me that’s infamous for eating with her eyes(or should I say taking photos of her food?) All aesthetic preferences aside, I definitely want to come back here with my friends.

First off, my first time here was within a week of opening, and I am a fan! It has taken awhile to conjure up the absolute best words to talk about Spiral Noodle. Not only am I in love with the interior paint décor, painted by local artist Matt Lively, but the fun atmosphere is not of a typical your average asian fusion sit down in RVA. No, this is so much more than that. Bring the kids to stare at the décor, it is like a cartoon not just for those who loved the 80’s and early 90’s cartoon era. Service was just as excellent as the décor of this place. Not on was our server just the nicest, letting us have time to figure out the ordering style, but she was very helpful in explaining to us some of the other parts of the menu. This will be a spot I will frequent in the fall as well — hot soups galore! I had a MTO(made-to-order) rice bowl. The veggies were super fresh and my meat was simply made. I wandered over to the sauce bar to try my hand at being a mixologist to create my own sweet and spicy but tangy blend suitable for this masterpiece and I did not disappoint. With the endless amount of combination to each bowl, it is easy to come back and not ever had the the same meal twice– at least not for awhile. While this is quite a unique spot, unlike any place in RVA, it is whimsical and fun. Being in the heart of Carytown allows most anyone to come and sample their asian fusion cuisine, and you should. It beats a drive to DC for a true competitor.

You guys. Favorite new restaurant. Everything about Spiral is awesome, in no particular order: 1. Location: one of the best spots in Carytown. Across the street from CanCan. 2. Ambiance: funky colored lights hanging from the ceiling, crazy progressive/Pop/graffiti/surrealist art. Definitely a conversation starter. 3. Staff: friendly, attentive host. Knowledgeable server. Even someone from the kitchen came out and said hi. 4. FOOOOOD: so delicious. Summer Rolls almost changed my life. I loved the build your own bowl option. Phở was outta this world fresh. And there was a SAUCEBAR!!! … probably my favorite part I cannot wait to go back!

Ever since I heard there was a new noodles in richmond, I wanted to try it out to see if it’s worth it. Turns out it was the best damn noodle place I’ve been to in a long time. I’d say it’s my top 3 noodle place in richmond. The atmosphere was nice, service is great(cute servers), reasonable price($ 6-$ 12 depending what you get). I recommend the Japanese noodles and broth! For toppings I recommend the boiled eggs, naruto, and crabs. I’m glad that I came to this place!

The fiancé and I agree on 3.5 stars for this place. Not bad, but nothing amazing. If you are looking for a transitional type ramen shop, this is not the place. This place is all about mixing things up! I appreciate the concept but execution could use some work. Waitress was friendly but didn’t really do a good job at explaining, and descriptions on the create a bowl would be helpful for those not familiar with the different types of noodles. We ordered the bacon and cheese crab rangoons to start out. The rangoons come out crispy and hot, and I love the thinner wrapper they use. Typically bacon makes everything better, but not so much in this case; it didn’t really add much to the dish. This is definitely more of a novelty item. We were however quite satisfied with our«create a bowl» entrees. Portions were definitely worth the money, and very filling. We both opted for the Japanese tonkatsu broth, which was pretty standard and up to par with what we’ve had elsewhere. I got the Japanese ramen and he got the vermicelli, both of which came out perfected cooked. The steak and boneless pork come out sliced larger than we were expecting, but well marinated and cooked. The seasoning reminded me of that found on Vietnamese style grills. The sauce bar they offer really lends itself for customization. The larger slices of meat were perfect for dipping, and we were able to spice up our broths to our liking. Overall, this place will do for a quick fix of noodles for us.

If you’re in for a quick fix of noodles or rice, then this is a fun place to indulge. It’s close and convenient(at least to my townhouse and the service is wonderful. If you’re looking for authentic, I’ve certainly had better at Phở So 1 off Horsepen or Broad Street; but for a place that’s not Vietnamese, this is pretty good. I’ll take it over driving sometimes. This restaurant will be in my regular rotation.
