*Bird Feathers In The Food* I ate here over the weekend with my girlfriend, was kind of difficult to notice from the outside and we had to park about a block away although that wasn’t much of an issue. We were seated in a very cramped two person booth right away and the waitress took our orders. We ordered a regular cheeseburger and a turkey burger, which I imagine should take about 10 minutes tops anywhere you go. After waiting for a half hour our food finally came out and our waitress was very apologetic about the wait. We started eating and about a quarter of the way through my girlfriends turkey burger she bit into a feather. a bird feather. I watched this happen and was extremely grossed out as was she. You would think that after a half hour of waiting for your food it would at least come out perfect but in this case they missed a bird feather and severely over cooked my burger; I watched people that were seated after us receive their food before us and the cook looked like he was 100 years old. The waitress gave her a replacement turkey burger for free however it still does not make up for the mistake. All this being said the waitress that was serving us was a total sweetheart and I still left a tip for her because she seemed to be the only professional employee in the place. Unfortunately I have to give one star just based on my first and last experience here. I was also still charged for my food which I thought was ridiculous.

Modern diner, bright with great service and stellar classic diner menu. Cash only. A lot of the architectural features are original(early 1900s); the high ceilings and minimal décor make it feel clean and new. As my beau put it, «Exactly what I wanted.»

The food was very expensive for 3 people and when we didn’t tip good enough for our waitress who we didn’t see half the time she ran after us yelling how our tip was not enough and wouldn’t let us leave some people were staring and my friend had to throw her a five to get her to leave us alone. If we weren’t totally shocked by this we would’ve gone and complained to the owner honestly I’m going into the food business and if this was one of my workers I would fire her on the spot it was completely unprofessional on her part no matter what kind of tip you do NOT chase after people, the only situation I feel that kind of behavior would be if we didn’t pay the bill which we did.

Came here last Saturday morning before heading to the Strawberry Festival with my boyfriend. We are definitely fans of this little gem. We were between 2 different breakfast places that day, but decided to come here because the name intrigued us– we weren’t sure what we were going to get. After looking at reviews we were sure we picked the right place. Upon entering, you notice its kind of like an old-school diner, with that ambiance. I loved every second of it. A long counter top with stools, and the place was pretty full, minus a few booths here and there.(which is also a HUGE plus– all booths!!!) We were told to choose our own booth that was open. We were handed breakfast menus and our waitress was extremely friendly. I unfortunately don’t remember her name. The menus were simple– eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, griddle foods. Standard LI diner type food. I got bacon and eggs and my boyfriend got French toast with a side of home fries. They also had cranberry juice that he got which was a treat. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was so delicious. The home fries, however, tasted just like French fries. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I ate them and my boyfriend ate all of his, I just wish they had more seasonings. The French toast was also delicious. He got that because on the menu it says their«famous» French toast and that sucked him right in. Afterwards, we were that perfect type of full, where we didn’t have to roll out of there but we were certainly satisfied! When we were paying our bill the waitress that served us let us taste their HOMEMADE peach ice cream. it was DELICIOUS. We definitely could have each gotten a scoop but we decided we’d make a plan to go back and get it. Everyone is super friendly, and the food is delicious. Definitely a good stop in Riverhead if you’re looking for a great breakfast and great atmosphere.

I absolutely love this place and look forward to meetings in Riverhead just so I can come here. Drinking a cup of coffee at one of their big booths looking out at Main Street is a real treat. The breakfast is standard good LI diner breakfast and the lunch menu is very limited, but the chili is great. This isn’t the place for you if you want the gigantic Long Island diner experience. But if you want to feel like you’re in nice 1950’s Riverhead before hard times, or if you’re a hipster, this place is fantastic.

Might be a good place to come for an ice cream soda or a sundae but forget about breakfast or lunch. This place is filthy, the floors look like they havent been cleaned in months. I mean filthy dirty. There were dozens of newspapers scattered all over the place and a couple of flies kept buzzing around our table. Our waitress, Brenda was helpful but never asked if we wanted more coffee had to get her attention. There was another waitress who I saw spit in the garbage can in the restaurant. I should have called her e ho on this. When there was a lull in the restaurant, the cook behind the counter, took off his apron and sweatshirt, took money from the waitress along with a few«tickets» to purchase, he came back and saw a few additional customers. He put his sweatshirt back on, his apron and began to cook again. No washing of hands. That is disgusting. And a violation. I am glad i ordered before this, but then again, he probably hasn’t washed his hands all day. The«homefries» were just diced potatoes(probably frozen) and baked. Nothing else to call them homefries. The sausage is brown and serve from the box. If you want simple, bland food and don’t mind a filthy restaurant with a cook who doesnt wash his hands then this is your place to go. I was sorry I didn’t head further to Atlantis and go into Blue Duck a great new bakery and pasty shop also on Main. They have great fresh coffee and plenty of good breakfast eating choices or just some great pastries, croissants and breads.

They have a very limited menu. Stay away from the grilled chicken. The fact that there name has«confectionery» in the title, you would think they would have a better dessert section. That was a disappointment. Over priced in general.

Great spot in Riverhead for lunch. Old school confectionery, great BLT, grilled cheese, cheeseburger, onion rings and don’t forget the ice cream. Nostalgic and delicious!

Love this place! Been coming to Papa Nick’s since I was a little girl. The family that runs it is wonderful! They are some of the sweetest down to earth people around. It’s great for kids, my niece and nephew LOVELOVELOVE this place! Not to mention the building is super cool if you’re into historical architecture(or even if you’re not). Food is all homemade and fresh. I love their chocolate egg creams but supposedly their malts are to die for. Personally I’m not a malt fan but every malt aficionado I have taken here has“died and gone to heaven”.

I was out shopping with a friend and we asked the owner of the shop where was a good place for lunch nearby, she suggested the Star Confectionery a block away. At first I said to myself a confectionery? That’s an ice cream shop. But we were starving and decided to take her advice. I am so glad we did. Walking in, you feel like you walked back in time. The appearance had me a little worried, lunch counter, small booths, grill guy cooking in plain view of customers, cute old blenders and knick knacks, but it was jam packed, and thought it was a good sign. We were seated right away by a cute older man and given our menus. I ordered the hot open faced roast beef sandwich, my friend ordered a hamburger. We both had their lemonade. We were served very quickly. That lemonade is to die for. It was fresh squeezed, had some pulp and was a perfect balance of sweet and sour. And my roast beef sandwich — divine. The presentation wasn’t very appealing and at first I thought it was canned gravy and processed meat with some crinkle fries. WRONG! The gravy was fresh, the beef was piping hot, not salty at all. I practically licked my plate. My taste buds were dancing in delight by how good it was. My friend said her burger was awesome too. I complimented our friendly waitress telling her I’m usually a fussy eater. She said she didn’t believe that as my plate was completely clean. And our combined check was less than $ 25! I don’t go out to Riverhead very often, but next time I do, I am definitely eating here again. This place is a gem. Cons — bring cash, they don’t take credit cards. Bathroom is very small, but it is clean.

If you’re looking for the classic diner breakfast experience, you can’t go wrong with Star’s Confectionary. Consistency, intimacy and old-school charm are all hallmarks of Star’s– loved, known and still referred to by locals as «Papa Nick’s.» A perfect place to head if you’re nursing a hangover or craving an omelette or plate of over easy eggs, just don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a table on a weekend morning!

Went for lunch the other day and had an absolutely fantastic order of fish and chips. Even though the fries were not hand-cut, they were cooked to perfection. Waitress was extremely cheery & helpful. The homemade orangeade was also great. A perfect old-fashioned luncheonette feel and a great place to grab a quick bite.

Been there dozens of times. Family run. Food is not fancy, just simple and good. You must get a shake. You get the old fashioned glass and the rest in the silver cup.

Love the Star Confectionary! Super old-school spot that’s great for breakfast. My daughter loves the pancakes and my wife and I get busy on the omelettes. Go there and enjoy!

Nice people opened the door to let me sneak in at 4:08 to try their homemade ice cream! Yum. Took the staffs advice and tried the vanilla with oreos, also the butter pecan. Very good. Will have to come back again before they are closing.

DON’T BOTHER. what promises to be a charming east-end breakfast experience is actually a dull, run-of-the-mill nothing interesting on the menu dive. Eggs seemed like a pre-mix — they were too perfectly yellow. no good omelet stuffings. Pancake was actually rubbery. Slow wait staff. Took forever just to get them to let me PAY. Old-Fashined? how about just OLD.

Great baked goods and sit-down brunch with an old-fashioned but not obsolete feel to it.
