This is the holy grail for all Mexican food shops in the Southern California area. I live in San Diego which is full of taco shops but none compare to this taco shop from heaven. Every single thing here is top notch authentic, don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. I’ve had just about everything on the menu, and it’s all great. The one item here that I think is better than anywhere else in the world is their Carne asada burrito, customize it however you like, but you won’t be let down by the mouth watering Mexican flavors. This is the taco shop that sets the bar for every other shop. I have judged every burrito I’ve ever eaten to the ones I’ve had from here and the others just leave me with an empty feeling of dissatisfied. I hate living an hour and a half away from you, oh great mijos tacos! This review is strictly on the food, not the dine in experience or décor. The old woman who works the register is also the sweetest lady and gets my order right every time, in fact she has it memorized. I can’t explain how much I love the food here. It’s still just as good as when it was on magnolia. Edit: oh no!!! Is it true? This place closed? Fuck you riverside for letting a spot like this close!!! I’m coming up this weekend to verify.

Been here for years… pretty much had everything from fries, nachos, tacos, burritos etc. Everything was great and loaded with great amounts of food. Took a few other friends who kept bragging about how Albertos, Alertos was always good so I took them here and all of them changed their minds. There are days when the food is prepared sloppy and doesn’t taste as fresh but I guess it just depends on the day and who’s the cook. This is my #1 spot for Mexican food.

This place used to be amazing. The food was freshly cooked, they actually used to cook the al pastor on the spit, the carnitas was so tender. Then they were forced to move locations. I’m not sure what happened, lack of funds etc. Eventually they started cutting back. The food suffered. Then the owners sold it to someone else, and now I will not go there. Dissapoints me every time. It’s hard to remember what great of a place it used to be, and now it just doesn’t cut it.

Loved the picture of their al pastor spit and couldn’t wait to get my hands on some. Arrived in the evening to a friendly cashier who was quick to help guide us their menu. I ordered the taco combo with two al pastor taco and one intestine taco(my Hubby wanted that one). Also ordered the bean & cheese burrito with guacamole added and wet style with enchilada sauce. Lastly a carne asada Torta. For drinks we tried their strawberry aguas fresca and horchata. We ordered the items to go, and stocked up on salsas from the salsa bar. Once home and able to try anything I found myself disappointed again, i thought the flavors would be much better. The al pastor was better than local places but I was hoping for the authentic juicy Mexico al pastor and this did not meet my expectations. The burrito was good but the guacamole was overly tart with lemon juice to the point where I could only taste lemon and it ruined the burrito for me. The carne asada Torta was okay along with the salsas. Next time I know to ask for avocado and not guac since I didn’t care for it. The strawberry juice was too sweet for me but my husband loved it and the horchata wasn’t as sweet as usual which I liked. I didn’t even see a spit being used so that was a big let down. my search for authentic al pastor continues.

I found this place thanks to Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Well, quite simply it was excellent! As another reviewer stated, the burritos are huge! I had the pastor burrito wet with red sauce and it was the best I’ve had outside of La Paz. Definitely coming back. I had forgotten to post this review, so I’m now updating it after my second visit. I ordered the exact same meal and this time it was terrible. It was probably to be expected since it was nearly 10pm when I went, but I still expect fresh food! The rice was hard and crunchy, and the pastor was overbooked, probably from sitting in the warmer too long since the rotisserie was already taken down for the night. I sent it back and got tacos which were actually very good. The chicken had wonderful flavor, as did the carne asada. I originally gave them 5 stars, but took one away after this burrito incident. Overall they were still deserving of a good rating, just not the full 5 stars.

Great carne asada burritos. We’ve had them twice now. The meat was very tender and no fat or grizzle, also a big burrito! We got them as take out, so can’t vouch for the service, but they seemed really cool. They have a self serve salsa bar. Pretty tasty

Dined tonight with two somewhat discriminating foodie friends. I was tempted to order the 4.99 cheeseburger, fries and drink combo just to be funny but decided on the al pastor super nachos instead. With a horchata. Horchata was some of the worst I have ever had but the nachos were great and huge. We watched Family Guy en espanol while there and pigged out, I really liked their salsa bar-great options and flavors. My total was 8.38 and we stayed until 1025pm so all in all it was a success in my opinion despite the hole in the wall space and décor.

I feel really bad writing this review because the staff was really nice BUT the food was some of the worst I’ve ever had. Came here because overall the reviews seemed pretty good n being pregnant I was really craving good tacos al pastor… SODISAPPOINTED. We ordered all tacos: carne asada, beef tongue, al pastor and fish. The carne asada was so bland and dry it was almost inedible. Beef tongue was pale n also really bland. Al pastor did not even resemble what I’m used to, seems like they microwave heat everything, it was terrible. Last but not least, the fish tacos were pathetic. Tons of veggies, which is fine I like that and the sauce was ok too BUT the fish was breaded, more like a tiny little sliver of fish coated n recoated in thick, gummy mush. Just thinking about it now makes me sick. It doesn’t take much to do better than this place, save ur money people, go elsewhere!

Pretty good food, not bad. Ordered the burrito, was pretty good, tasty. The hot sauces they offer are pretty good too(condiment bar). The Aguas frescas they sell are like every other Mexican place, but taste good. I went on a Saturday afternoon, so it was empty with about 4 – 5 people there. The price for the food is not bad either, this place is good for a quick stop for Mexican food around the area. Would I go back? sure why not, but some reviews saying its the best Mexican food in Riverside… hhmm really doubt that.

My cousin brought me here after we were searching up for some Mexican food. This restaurant is pretty close to authentic Mexican food. I’ve been here twice now and both times i got quesadillas. They make the bombest quesadillas I’ve ever tried! They’re fat and packed with meat and cheese. It’s big enough to be shared. Their horchata was amazing as well and tasted authentic. Pricing is cheap and reasonable. I’m from the OC but if I’m in the area this is where I’d want to go.

On occasion I rely on Unilocal to point me in the right direction to a place to eat!, I happen to be in unfamiliar territory and I’m seeing Mexican food, Tacos etc everywhere and instead of just following my nose, I let my fingers do the Unilocaling and search for tacos in the area. I find this place Mijos Tacos and it’s 5-Star average rating, I read all 5 reviews and every one of them rates this place 5-Stars, here’s some of what they say. * «This place is the legit! Great spot for mexican food. they hook it up with the carne, carnitas, or whatever you plan on consuming». * «This place is a hidden GEM. AMAZING food. Different than any other mexican food place out there». * «Best mexican food in riverside, the food is fresh». * «If you want some authentic, FANTASTISC, mexican food, this is the place to go!». Sounds like a WINNER, let’s check it out… After placing my order I did notice they do have a trompo, BUT… NO Al Pastor was cooking on it. Tacos — Carne Asada, Al Pastor, Carnitas y Lengua Carne Asada — As you can see by the color or variations there of parts were OK and parts overdone, not a good taco. 2-Stars Al Pastor — WOW way overcooked, dried out and fairly hard, NOWAY this is FRESH meat, they must keep day old previously cooked meat and reheat, this is HORRIBLE… 1-Star Carnitas — Best of the four different meats I tried, but just OK nothing special. 3-Stars Lengua — WORST lengua I’ve ever had, disgusting way undercooked, mushy, lacking any color, is this seriously the Best Riverside has to offer?. 1-Star wish Unilocal had ZERO Quesadilla con Carne Asada — Best thing on this plate… was the slice of Orange, what do you get when you take 2-Star Carne Asada and add a bunch of jack cheese? a 3-Star Quesadilla Breakfast Burrito — Well they didn’t have BACON, so I’ll take the next best pork product, Chorizo… kept it simple chorizo con huevo, the chorizo wasn’t bad, but thought flavor was just OK, no complaints but NO Wow very flavorful either. 3-Stars WOW, so NOT what I was expecting from a 5-Star place that’s supposed to be legit!

If you want some authentic, FANTASTISC, mexican food, this is the place to go! You’ve got to have one of their quesadillas!!! We usually get the Al Pastor quesadillas… OMG, they are phenominal! The tortillas are HOMEMADE and make these outstanding! The chips & salsa are fresh and yummy! Fresh chips, warm! And the salsa is excellante! The staff is very nice and the restaurant itself is simple, but who cares LOL ~ the food is great! Let me also say we live in San Bernardino… about 30 minutes from this restaurant… There are many other mexican restaurants we could go to… BUTTHISPLACEISWORTHTHEDRIVE!!!
