Siam Square serves savory supper spreads! I have become a dedicated fan of the dishes served at this Siam Square location. Having visited the Siam Square in Middletown, RI on several occasions, I started frequenting the location here in Riverside and was pleased with my experience! As many other Unilocalers have noted… the location of this restaurant leaves something to be desired. Drive past the Shaw’s in this plaza… and you find yourself among a graveyard of strip mall businesses… along-since closed Brooks Pharmacy, adult video store, laundromat, etc. If you look closely enough, you will catch the dim interior lights of this establishment and likely walk up to the door half expecting it to be locked like all the other businesses. Usually quite empty, there is a waitress or two that take care of all the needs of the diners. In fact, two visits ago, my bf and I were the only two people there until the last few minutes of our meal. In any case, I have never had a bad meal here. Their pricing is quite reasonable and I never feel bad ordering a couple of things to indulge in. Most often, I order the Golden Bag appetizer(marinated cheese, celery, and imitation crab deep fried in a wonton sheet). The cheese is so thick and velvety I could probably just order these and be happy. Their soups are very warming as well… the Silver Soup(a clear broth with ground chicken balls, glass noodles, mushrooms, and scallions) is simple but packs a great deal of flavor. I have sampled a number of their main entrees and by far my favorite two are the Pad Thai(voted best back in 2000? as advertised on their front window) and the Lady in Green(grilled salmon with green coconut curry sauces, green and snow peas, with zucchini and mild spice). Given the seeming emptiness of this location, it is hard to understand how this restaurant is able to stay open… does everyone come at a time that I have not yet hit upon? Whatever the case, I am very happy that I can come here for some delicious Thai cuisine in a quiet, interesting atmosphere. The blue sparkly seats are the best. There is a flat screen TV that is often playing the news here… which for whatever reason seems weird. Beware of sitting near the front window in the winter… its a bit drafty. Get a Buddha beer! The bottle is pretty sweet and the beer is light and pairs well with most of the dishes.

Food was fantastic the first time I visited here. Im kind of familiar with Thai food and I always order Pad Thai in every thai restaurant I go to. Pad thai here is great but the second time I visited, I had Panang Beef Curry and beef was not tender and not cooked well. Flavor was there but it could have been made better if the beef was cooked properly. It can be that the beef was already a week old(or worse, weeks old) that’s why it’s not tender anymore. Waitresses has always been friendly, service is good and food has always been served at the right time.

This place is excellent! Just tried it for the first time and we will definitely be back. The folks who work there are very friendly and the pad Thai was outstanding! The prices are reasonable and best of all it’s right up the street! :-)

Way too good to be here. Outstanding authentic salads, fried fish cakes, they even have sticky rice. Quick, cheap, and cheery despite the mall that is collapsing around it. No desserts but I can live w that.

Was in the area for work and wanted to try a Thai place out. I saw the mixed reviews for here, but decided to try it anyway since it was so close. Horrible decision. Got an order of Chicken Pad Thai… and it was awful. The chicken was so bland, it tasted liked it was cooked in an oven with nothing else, and chunked up. The noodles too were just clumped together, and half of them were unseasoned. On top of that… when picking up the food they had no forks to give for take-out.

Wanted to love it. Disappointed. Meal was ordered take out, so will only speak to meal and not to service. The bad feelings started when I tried to access their website from my phone to order takeout and the website was down, but these things happen. Bad feelings continued after I blindly ordered 2 dishes, pad thai and three friends, which came to $ 25.00 — without rice! I thought she had forgotten the rice. I was not about to pay a penny more for 2 dishes at a thai restaurant. And yet more bad feelings when I arrived home and realized that the three friends was 75% lettuce and very little chicken, pork, or beef. The pad thai was delicious, true to everyone else’s recommendation. Not feeling great about the value. Not feeling blown away by the meal itself. Location is out of the way. Décor is hilariously bright with the teals and golds. Meh — I’ve had better.

Siam Square is in one of the saddest strip malls ever — there’s an oldish-looking Stop & Shop, an oldish-looking laundromat, and a bunch of abandoned stores(I think the end store used to be Ames!). I’ve gotten pickup from Siam many times now and their Pad Thai and Pineapple Fried Rice are amazing. I love how you don’t have to choose your protein for the Pad Thai as it automatically comes with chicken, shrimp, and fried tofu. Don’t even get me started on the pineapple fried rice either as it’s hands-down the best fried rice I’ve ever had. Service is friendly as well. This is a place I try to only frequent once every couple of months because I will eat until I feel stuffed, and then I’ll eat some more, and then as I’m putting the leftovers in the fridge I’ll still eat some more. I usually don’t have much in the way of leftovers as you can tell.

To start, I had the Tom Kar Seafood soup, which could have been spicier. It did have a nice flavor, but I wanted a little kick, which it did not deliver. For my main dish I had Two Lover, which again had one spice, so I was expecting sweet and sour with a kick. It had the sweet and sour down, but had no kick. Again, the food was fresh and flavorful, but lacked the one thing I really wanted. All in all, it was tasty, yet disappointing. The next time I go, I’ll be sure to order items with two peppers for hotness. It’s worth going, just don’t expect your food to have spice. Aside from that, the service was fine and it was clean.

I’ve been visiting Siam Square since they were on Thayer St. in Providence. I have yet to receive a bad meal from this restaurant. This is the best Thai restaurant in the R.I. area. The food is always very fresh tasting. I have never had a problem with take out. The food is always hot, my order is always correct.(which seems to be a big problem for some restaurants) I can not say a bad thing about this restaurant. My only regret is I wish they were open for lunch too. Try the Chicken Bangkok! Try the Nim chow(fresh roll)! Try the Golden Triangles! If you have an appreciation for good food, you will like Siam Square.

I am so shocked at reviews on here saying bad things about this restaurant… not to be a snob but I am from San Francisco and have pretty much had the best of every kind of food at my fingertips. This is one of the only places we go to here in Rhode Island. Everything else has sucked. This place is fresh and has the traditional Thai flavors, maybe its not the ‘best of the best’ but the prices aren’t too high either. Its better if you eat there than if you take it to go — don’t order fried stuff to go, it gets soggy. We will continue to enjoy this little place until we move back home. Someone wrote this was the worst Pad Thai they have ever had, either it was a very off night or you haven’t had authentic pad thai before.

I haven’t been to a decent Thai restaurant in a while. When some friends of ours invited us here I was kind of skeptical. There was no one else in the joint and it was located in a strip mall. Those are two not so great things as far as restaurants as concerned for me, but Siam Square turned out to be pretty tasty. I find myself craving their massaman curry all the time. We ordered a lot off of the appetizer menu to have a taste of everything and it was all great. My massaman curry was fantastic. I would recommend this little joint to anyone in the mood for some decent and cheap Thai food.

Deep in the bowels of the saddest little(mostly shut down) strip mall you ever done seen lies this sweet, immaculate, just-OK, Thai restaurant. I’ve found it to always be quiet here. Saturday at 7? No problem. But you can probably bet on a lone timid server taking care of the whole place *and* pouring the drinks. Given all these 5 star reviews I kept sampling around the menu(the place is in my neighborhood hence the not-cooking-tonight returns), thinking I was missing something. But it just keeps feeling to me that Siam Square is missing something. As entertained as I am *reading* the menu — Sparking Vegetables, Four Buddies, Two Lovers(pork xox beef), Dancing Squid — I don’t think the dishes live up to the promise of their most awesome names. I’ve been served overcooked meat and not-so-Sparkling frozen veggies from a bag(talkin’ those perfectly cubed carrots, peas, corn) with a curry dish, canned pineapple, Golden Bags app featuring«marinated cheese» — er, what?, you mean the cream cheese? And sure, some other things are just fine and satisfy but not memorable enough for me to recall details. If not blown away by the food, I am most certainly impressed by the chairs. They are covered in blue glitter vinyl that you’ve only ever seen on a retro bike seat, perhaps a bar stool. A waitress got our hopes up a few years ago saying they’d be replacing them(thus presenting an opportunity to buy some) but the chairs are still welcoming Siam Square patrons’ derrieres in all their shiny glory.

Four stars for now, based on 1 togo order. Tom-yum is only ok, but the Pad-kee-mow(I think its basil noodle on the menu?) was very good. Can’t wait to go try other dishes, let’s see if they gain another stay or lose one. They no longer serve lunch. I am moving closer to them in the fall. I hope they stay in business. Not a high traffic area.

I have been to Siam Square about 5 or 6 times. Each time I have been very satisfied with the portion size. The food is very fresh, well prepared and delicious. The service is excellent and I believe the servers and cooks are all family. The last time we were there we had two lovely young ladies that were our servers who I think are sisters. They were so sweet and attentive that they made our dinner extra special. I will most definitely go there again.

We went a few weeks ago for dinner. There were several of us in the group and most of us did not like the meal. I ordered the chicken satay and it tasted like frozen, bland chicken pieces that had freezer burn. The vegetable Pad Thai was the worst Pad Thai I have ever had in my whole life. We ate it because we were starving and the others were already eating. On top of that, when the bill came, they charged a higher price for the Pad Thai. When I asked about the discrepancy, the waitress said .“Oh the menu did not show the higher price that we have now”… What a joke !! You charge what the menu says… that is good business practice. Not coming back …

My GF and I trekked over to Siam in a freak rainstorm that just wanted to ruin our night. So we got ourselves a Groupon that we never used and it was getting close to expiration so we decided to head on over. Siam is tucked in the back of a forgotten strip mall(trust me you will know what I mean when you see), complete with a dollar store that closed. Siam Square is the one bright spot in this war zone of a bad economy. So we run in before the rain starts to come down and we are greeted with a very oddly decorated restaurant. It had a mix of western autumn decorations with typical thai/asian décor. Then our waitress came over(honestly looked like these two thai girls were running the whole restaurant, luckily it was just old people. and us). We got some stiff drinks and I went with a thai staple, Pad Thai. Wow, Siam Square easily has one of the best pad thai’s I have ever had. I thought Pakarang in Providence had the best, but this wins hands down. Even my GF’s Curry in Coconut Milk was very tasty(I am usually not big on curry). If you are driving around East Providence, Riverside or Barrington or have an itch for Thai, you will not be disappointed by SS.

I was hedging on a 4 or 5 star for this place but in reality its one of my favorite places to eat and I get takeout at least every other week. I’ve been eating here for years and when I lived in NYC for a few years I longed for it as I’ve never found another Thai restaurant quite as satisfying. I always get Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice and Crispy Zesty shrimp. Then change up with Drunken noodles, Two Lovers, or whatever anybody else wants. The food is always fresh and delicious. I always get take out because I live a mile away. It can be a bit odd eating in as it isn’t ever really crowded but the seem to do a robust business and if you do eat in the service will be great. I am confused why another poster takes issue with the location. Is it in a strip mall next to where Claflin used to be? Yes. Do I care? No. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated and always spotlessly clean. I also love that somebody from Cranston thinks there’s a problem with the location. Surely there are no restaurants in strip malls in Cranston…

The service was really great, the food was a little on the greasy side and i asked for it extra extra spicy and it didn’t really seem spicy at all. Not really sure where the disconnect was on that, but i’ve been twice and made the request both times and it left me longing for more heat and flavor.

Recently came here after a many month hiatus courtesy of groupon. I forgot how good some of the items on the menu here can be. It was pretty empty for a sat night which was concerning, but I ordered my old standby the crispy duck(and found it to be a crispy, spicy, and tasty as usual. Definitely one of the better thai options in providence

Siam Square took a while to find, but it is truly worth the drive. In my first visit, we had Tod Mun Pla and Steamed Thai Dumpling. Both of these appetizers were simply wonderful. For entrees, we shared Pad Thai(of course!), a delightful Yellow Curry and the Sizzing Himmaparn. The ooohs and aaahs were all we could say because the food was so yummy! The food had the perfect amount of spice for me, definitely not too spicy. I loved the place so much that I went back the following evening, which made one the greetings giggle. I freely admit that I am addicted to this place and though Apsara Palace is only a stone’s throw away from my house, I will travel the extra 20 – 25 minutes by car to Siam Square. It IS just that frakkin’ good! In short, this place has THEBEST Thai food I have had since My Thai in Philadelphia! Wonderful, friendly staff; nice atmosphere and amazing food! ******** 9÷17÷2010 Update: Tonight solidified my dedication to this place! The owner and head chef of the restaurant came over to our table to thank us for finding them. She was so warm and friendly and we all raved about the food. If you are fan of Salmon, I highly recommend the Lady on Green. Its sauce is phenomenal! Also, I learned that RIPTA does service this location: we saw the 33/Riverside bus pass by as we devouring our meal.
