I order the Chicago style deep dish pizza the sauce was good but the crust was so greasy and gross barley any toppings and I paid 14 bucks for a medium it wasn’t worth it at all

I started missing the good authentic pizza of NY and I’m surely happy I came to Cappy’s. They were quick, helpful, and the pizza was so flavorful. I got the Chicago style margherita pizza(great for all the vegetarians). My suggestion would be to order ahead and if you’re doing takeout, it took about 30 minutes to make a pie.

Yea, it may not be the ultimate Chicago deep dish, but for Tampa it’s pretty darned good. Had the deep dish Cappy, and enjoyed it. The positives: very nice texture of sauce, with the crushed tomato tasty and full bodied. The amount of cheese, the meats, and the fresh mushrooms, onions, and green pepper were generous and filling. To make a full 5 star rating, I suggest 1) cutting down the heat in the tomatoes-many might find it too spicy. Let the freshness of the tomatoes shine out, and 2) add just a bit more spring in the dough. Needs a bit more«give» to hold up to the generous filling. Mine was ready on time and piping hot. Very friendly and courteous staff. A big cut above the national chains. I’ll be back!

Our waitress was inattentive. The pizza was overdone. It was black on the edges. However, even though it was over cooked the sauce was good and the toppings were tasty. If they cooked it a few minutes less and checked on our table occasionally it would have been a four star review. The employees all seemed to be college aged. If they put a manager in to control quality they would be a top notch place. We waited for the waitress to take the bill, finally went to counter to pay. Three people walked by us before someone finally took our money. Still a decent pie.

We went on a Friday night and had to wait 30-minutes, but it was totally worth the wait! The place is small and quaint, but booths are roomy. You get to choose your own beers from a fridge, which we went with a UFO White, and they were a great choice! While you wait, they have Trivial Pursuit cards on the table to kill time, very cool idea! We ordered a greek salad and cheese breadsticks to start. The salad came out quick and it was amazing! The breadsticks came out next and they were hot cheesy deliciousiness! We decided to order The Cappy Chicago Style Deep Dish! AMAZING! Waitress was super friendly and on top of things. Cappy’s Pizza is definitely a place for authentic pizza! We will be back again!

I really love this area because there are a couple of restaurants that we frequent often that are really good. We are a big fan of Chicago thin crust pizza. They offer deep dish pizza. You may want want to ask if you can get thin crust style Chicago pizza instead of the deep dish. We got a small New York style pizza 1-Topping for $ 10 including the charge for the pepperoni. Which I think is a little ridiculous for a pizza place that charges for pepperoni when it usually costs nothing at most establishments. I wasn’t happy with the pizza at all. It was extremely spicy that I had to take sips of my soda after every bite. I couldn’t even finish the first piece I had. There were green flecks added to our pizza which I believe is basil or oregano. It’s kinda hard to tell. I loved the ambiance and the décor of this place. It still had the Chicago feel to me especially the smell. I can notice the smell when you walk in. I can never mistaken that smell. There is limited seating but is not unusual for a pizza place. I can only imagine at higher peak times then it was when we were there. They have unusual hours Sunday — Thursday 5 — 9 pm and Friday — 5 — 10 pm — The hours are kind of confusing because when we arrived it was when they had just opened for the night. The table top booths has a nice amount of room to spread out but not for working environment but more of a chill spot to hang out with friends.

Love their New York style pizza and cheese bread. They make it fresh and it isn’t just a bunch of grease. The servers are always nice as well. We love the cozy atmosphere, but for newbies make sure you plan ahead as there can be a wait on Friday/Saturday night.

Love this restaurant. Their pizza, calzones, and greek salad is mega delicious. Their pizza and calzone crust is perfect. I did not give them 5 stars only because their seating area is terrible. The place is extremely small. For the most part you have to call for pick up. The restaurant don’t open until 5:30pm. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The prices are good and good portions.

Amazing pizza! Although I love the Chicago style the thin crust is just as good. All the ingredients are fresh and tasteful. The sauce is not sweet or salty. The cheese blend is amazing. It’s my favorite pizza in the entire area. The seating area is extremely limited as well as alcoholic beverages. We often just pick up to go. It’s always ready and the staff is always great.

Cool place, more on the vintage-y style. Loved all the décor and the tabletop. Friendly and accommodating servers. Great beer selection too, Brooklyn Lager is a must! Ordered a small caesar salad and the serving was good enough for 2 – 3 people. For thr pizza, we got a Medium Chicago Style-The Cappy(6 chunky slices) Only ate 1 and im already full. Took home 3 slices! The taste was good, not remarkable but good. The crust was perfectly cooked for me, crunchy the way i like it. Overall a great place for a pizza date!

Called on a order last night. When I came in I saw the pizza ovens and the guys making pizza like at home in jersey. I just knew the crust was going to be oh so good. Then I saw a calzone come out of the oven golden brown with a little cheese coming out and the edges pressed down and the smell to die for. Had to have one. The pressure was to get it home without eating in the car. Got it home and the crust was crisp on the bottom light and airy . I will come back with my family. Real soon

Might be the only Chicago style pizza place in the area, but even without competition they do a great job.

First time customers. Ordered deep dish, Chicago style and thin crust pepperoni. All I have to say is I wish we had known they were here!!! You can tell they use first class ingredients and plenty of it. The sauce is perfect!!! We use pick up, next time we will dine in. ;-)

Let me start off by saying I’m a huge pizza fanatic! Well… I’M not huge. I do have a few extra pounds around the mid section, but that may be from all the pizza I eat. I used to travel to Chicago often, and every time, I would get a deep dish from one of the many famous pizzerias. To say Cappy’s had some high expectations to meet was an understatement. Let’s start with the dining area. It reminds me of a Chicago pizzeria; small, tight, and almost a maze. I like places like this with lots of character. They keep it clean, so kudos to them! They also have a vintage freezer with frozen mugs(help yourself I think, I did). To break up the boredom, the have trivia cards at the table. This kept everyone off their phones and interacting with each other, while having a good time. Major bonus points for that! The service was great! Very friendly, and helpful. Our server was even nice when I spilled my water. Oops, sorry for that. The food was good. The cheese bread was delicious! The deep dish pizza(The Cappy) didn’t quite live up to the actual Chicago deep dish pizza I’m used to, but it was good. The only thing I didn’t like was the Cesare Salad. It was a little wilted. Overall, this place is good, and I’ll definitely be back to try the New York pizza.

We were looking for a new pizzeria in the Brandon area, and having read all the reviews on Cappy’s we decided to give it a try. Friday is take out and movie night at home so we ordered a pie to go! We ordered the large Cappy hold the bell peppers and a large Greek salad. The pizza was very good, although I am not yet sure it’s better than Anthony’s, but I’ll reserve judgment until I can sit down in the restaurant and eat it hot from the oven! The sauce was good, and the pepperoni and sausage were unremarkable, and I needed a crisper crust. However, the Greek salad was greatly lacking. Several pieces of the Iceberg lettuce were brown and wilted. It was very ordinary, Iceberg lettuce, green peppers, red onion, and tasteless feta cheese. The Greek dressing was sweet, which maybe what masked the bite of the feta cheese. Needless to say, I’m not a fan of this salad, while I love a good Greek salad. A little quality control might have allowed me to over look the rest.

An adorable little pizza spot with a neighborhood feel. The restaurant is very small but has big fans! If you come on a busy night you may be waiting awhile because there are not many tables. However, the wait was worth it. I have to admit, my favorite part about this place was not the pizza, it was the beer selection. Self serve from the cooler with beers you won’t find anywhere else or get something on tap if that’s more your style but there is a beer for everyone here! The pizza is good too. Get it NY or Chicago Deep dish. Since I already have a favorite NY pizza spot in Tampa, we decided to try the deep dish. The sauce is always important to me and they have a good chunky tomato sauce. The crust of the Chicago deep dish was not very impressive but overall it was an enjoyable pie. We will back again and probably again.

Quite the gem to have in Riverview. I’m a big fan of customized NY style pizza and prefer to avoid large chains like Howie’s which seemed to be everywhere I go. Before trying Cappy’s, I thought that the best pizza I’d be able to get in Tampa was at Anthony’s which is a small but slightly larger chain as we had a couple in South Florida as Cappy’s has 5 and all are only in the Bay area. Cool! But of course, the best pizza I’ve ever found in Florida is Scuola Vecchia in Delray Beach. I’d say from the pizza at Cappy’s earned them 2nd place in my Florida book. Now, let’s get to the location, parking was ample at Winthrop Town Centre. The façade was darling as if I was on Main Street USA at Disney World or more so like Mayberry in the 60’s. The interior was cool, but I found a problem as soon as we walked in. All of the tables inside are meant to seat 4 – 6 people and none for a single or a couple. There were several families with babies and one parent was kind of rude not to move her baby carrier out of the only available booth even though she clearly saw us. We had to ask her politely to move it out of the booth. You can dine outside, but we opted to dine inside as I’m allergic to wasps which we definitely saw some right before we entered. The menus are homemade with printed food items cut out, pasted on the back of old Vinyl Record music jackets and then laminated. It was very kitschy and hard to read as the menus my husband and I received were very different in terms of how the lists of food items were arranged. They do not carry Dr. Pepper, only Mr. Pibb. We ordered the Cappy’s NY style pizza which was to consist of: Italian sausage, ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, onion, and green bell pepper. But we requested to swap out the pepperoni with artichoke hearts instead. We must’ve waited a good 20 minutes for the pizza but luckily we did order a caesar salad that was of romaine lettuce and creamy Caesar dressing. The pizza arrived steaming hot. It was divine! After our first slice, we noticed there was no ham, just Italian sausage. We only requested to have pepperoni removed. Flagging the waitress down wasn’t helping as she was focused on a larger party across from us. By the time we were full and had 2 slices left, she came over and we were able to inform her then of the missing ham. She was nice to have promptly edited our check for the lack of ham. We had the leftover slices at home later that evening and my gosh, they were still fantastic– even when cold! I believe we have found our new pizza place!

My favorite pizza place of all time. I started eating at the original on Florida Ave in like 1827, but after a long wait they finally opened up another shop in the Winthrop Plaza and I have been enjoying the dickens out if it. The menu is simple… Chicago or NY style Za and some salad options. Service is good and beers are cold. This isn’t Pizza Hut so you can leave your coupons and head lice at home. Keep up the good work Pizza Gods. Don’t forget to take advantage of the free Double Bubble!

This is the best pizza in town. They make *great* thin crust Italian pizza, *and* they make good Chicago style deep dish(«toppings«on the Chicago are really bottomings, as they place the sauce and cheese on top). They have a great selection of bottled beers, and the best part — they’re self-serve! Walk in, grab a beer from the fridge, and pop the top on the counter, love it! The owner plays great music too, I heard the Pixies tonight! The menu is small, no problem though, everything is good. They have pizza, calzone, and some salads. The Greek salad is excellent, however I order it without the scoop of potato salad. The staff are all friendly, everyone seems like they’re happy to be there, I love when that happens!

First time going to Cappy’s It’s a little place. Just a handful of booths lining the walls by the windows. Seating is parallel to the counter/kitchen where incoming guests could order their to go meals. The menus are on vinyl covers. condensed. They don’t serve pizza by the slice. We ordered two medium pies which were sufficient for the 4 of us. There are about 6 slices on each pie. As well as a large Greek salad. Ordered one chicago style, deep dish pizza, with sausage. The only complaint was that perhaps the sauce was a little sweet, but that’s personal preference. The other pie was New York style, half sausage, half spinach and garlic. It was delish! No complaints about the food and the wait staff was friendly.
