I will never go this restaurant again! I went tonight and we are the only customer at this time(maybe we came up too early for dinner). salad with heavy dressing so I only ate few bites. I ordered fried shrimp with walnut and it came up with fried pork or some other types of meat. I was talking with my friends and did realize it until the last few one. I left one on the plate but it’s the only shrimp they put in for the whole dish! My friend also tried that and she said the same thing. server apologized but manager never apologized. terrible customer service and food was salty overall. the only star I gave was for environment inside.

We went here last night for the first time in years. I had pretty much stopped going to any of the older Asian places around town because of msg. I really liked my food, mu shu vegetables. I asked for no msg and they listened because I didn’t suffer afterward. I thought the crackers with margarine that were delivered to my table was odd but whatever. The mixed drinks look really fun on the menu and delicious as they are being served. Will likely try one next time.

Seriously you people think this is a 5-star restaurant? This is a run of the mill Chinese restaurant. I gave it an extra star for the kitschy décor.

Great service, great food! It’s a very consistent restaurant. I’ve never had a bad meal or bad service here. The staff is always really nice and the prices are reasonable. The volcano is also a great drink!

Very good. I can’t believe tonight was the first time I have been there. Their crab ragoons are amazing. The owner comes to your table and he’s very nice. The inside of the restaurant will blow your mind. It’s beautiful. I will definitely be going there again!

ALOHA! This is a genuine TIKITHEMEDRESTAURANT Ya’ll! Fiji Island Restaurant has been around since the 70’s. Charlie, the owner, is a sweet and delightful man, he always makes me smile. Also, he isn’t afraid to be out on the floor and get tables ready on a busy night. So much history, so much magic, spend money there and get lucky! -*wink wink* THIS is the place to have a large party, a first date or any celebration! Food is great and OMGEEEZ, the Dranks!!! Psst fyi, the mega volcano bowl drink(meant to be shared) costs like $ 18& It’s not on their drink menu.

We went for dinner last night with some friends. Amongst the four of us we ordered the crab rangoon, cho-cho, and hot+sour soup appetizers, the mongolian bbq entrée(3 of us), and the beef shish kabobs. One of us(me…) had the«Navy Grog» cocktail. The décor is certainly dated and kitschy — that’s no problem, that was fun. I cannot think of another tiki-themed restaurant in the Roanoke Valley, so I’m glad we have this one. The upholstery stuffing erupting from the split vinyl booth seat was unnerving, but honestly if the food’s good I’ll put up with it. Ever been to Mamazu in Richmond? The mixed drink was low tech(rum and powdered tea mix?), but actually… not bad. I’d order that again. The hot and sour soup was pretty good, I enjoyed it. The cho-cho’s weren’t bad, though its possible I was supposed to finish cooking them on a tiki torch provided to the table — this wasn’t exactly clear, and didn’t occur to us until the torch was removed. The rangoons were truly, truly good. Fried crab and cream cheese is tough to ruin. The entrees and house salads were terrible. No two ways about it. The salads consisted of two ingredients: iceberg lettuce and a generous dollop of gelatinous house dressing. The Mongolian BBQ promised«the sauce responsible for Genghis Khan’s insatiable appetitite» — evidently, Genghis Khan was a sucker for corn starch. Bland thickened sauce of some vague Asian origin. I had the mongolian chicken — I cannot speak for the beef/shrimp options. My wife’s beef shishkabob entrée was salty, but otherwise OK. I’ll try it again — I prefer local joints, and I gravitate to dives whenever possible. I’ll try the recommended dishes here and see how it goes.

We LOVE Fiji Island! Fun fun fun! Is it the best asian in town? Nope, but the drinks are STRONG the service is FAST the PUPU Platter is expected and everyone gets one causing servers to roll them out on carts. Just for giggles we timed our waitress and it took 58 seconds from leaving table to mixing volcano back to our table. Friendly family owned restaurant we are always happy when we leave.

This place is really old school but that is why I loved it. Our apps were crabrangoon and egg rolls. You tell they were home made which is really had to find these days. The entrée selection is not overwhelming large which is great. The entrees were large portions and super delicious.

My family has been dining at Fiji Island restaurant for many years. We have never had less than a first-class experience with the food and service. Don’t miss the salad with house dressing, it is delicious. The Zombies(it’s a drink!) are amazing and there are so many fabulous choices for dinner. We love the tropical atmosphere and muted lighting, as it is such a relaxing change from the hustle and bustle of our typical day. Just the act of writing this review is making me smile, and wanting to plan my next visit!

Our home away from home. Been going there since 1974. Always consistent, always great, always tasty. We recommend the Zombie’s as the opener. Sure to relax you and build the appetite. Follow those with a Pu Pu Tray for two. Delicious! Salads with the house dressing and you’re ready for the main course — Steak Kobe Diane. Best in town! In 40 years, we have never, and I mean never, had a bad meal or experience there. We have grown up at Fiji Islands Restaurant and have loved every minute. Not to mention that the staff truly treats you like family! Highly recommended! Tom and Jacci Willard

Over the years, I have eaten a lot of chinese food in different citiesand I always come back to the Fiji Island as my favorite. Cool, old school atmosphere, excellent(and strong) mixed drinks, and delicious food are a winning combination. Most chinese restaurants beef is tough and stringy. Not here. The sliced beef is tender and flavorful. Try the Garlic Beef sometime. Also the price is right. Most dihes are large enough to share and under $ 13. Long time owner, Charlie Chang is a gracious host and top flight chef. Highly recommened.

Okay as a Roanoke native of 38 years I had never been to Fiji island… with good reason! My wife and I wanted to try something new and pulled in to a packed parking lot(usually a good sign). Being greeted by an indifferent manager we were seated and looked at the hodge-podge menu. We decided to try the Steak Kobe Diane(Choice Filet Mignon, Butter fried and Sautéed in Red Wine & Teriyaki Sauce) for $ 16. A filet with teriyaki sauce… NOT a filet! This may have been sirloin(maybe) but it was tough, smelled of something I’m not sure of and the sauce was bottle teriyaki watered down with wine. After complaining to the waiter, he reluctantly went to get a manager and then returned saying«you can go talk to her». So we took our check(which wasn’t adjusted yet) to the front to tell her of our issues. She didn’t understand what was wrong with the steak after explaining it numerous times that we simply didn’t want it and we were leaving. We told her we took one bite and she said«hold on, I’ll check» and ran to the dining room to look at our plates. Upon returning she said we would have to pay for our salads since we ate them(they come with the steak). I’m assuming they are in big trouble financially if they treated first time customers this way, watch for these doors to close soon!

Ok, I tried the drinks. Two words: Fuji Volcano. A double of this was the size of my head… and I have a big head. I think I’ve found my new watering hole. No umbrella in my drink… only flaming 151.

I’m giving this two stars just because the atmosphere was great(when I was little). The food however, is another story-I’m sad to say I’ve actually wasted money on it. Forget about vegetarian options, and forget about about time(it takes forever!). You don’t get what you pay for-unless what you’re paying for is the kitchy scenery and umbrellas in your drinks. If you want something different from the American/Southern foods of the area, I could recommend at least 20 better places than this.

Fiji Island… Fun stuff. My mom and stepdad took me here right before I moved away. It had great décor, great cocktails, friendly waitstaff, and the food was delicious! The ambiance is quirky, fun and entertaining all in its self. I love pineapple in everything! This place is great and a little different from most of the mundane, American-Southern eateries you’ll find in the area.
