I love the atomosphere of this shop! Right on the corner of grandin. The owner greated me when I visited which is not a common practice these days. I will definitely bring any of my cupcake needs to Viva La Cupcake.

I recently moved my office space to Colab in Grandin Village and decided to try out this place. I had never been to a dessert shop focusing solely on cupcakes so this was my first. There were many different types of cupcakes like Key Lime and Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel. They were all delicious and I recommend coming down here for an afternoon snack. The cupcakes were relatively inexpensive, less than what you would spend on gourmet chocolates.

Terrible customer service especially from the owner… and it’s just a cupcake shop… should be fun and easy! Called 2 months ahead to order gluten free cupcakes for my best friends wedding. The owner told me to call back 10 days before the wedding and order them… could I not just have ordered them at that time and they would have them ready? Not sure about the organization there if you can’t order cupcakes for a wedding 2 months ahead of time… So I called 10 days before the wedding… and have now been playing phone tag with the owner for a week. Called twice and both times she was«in a meeting.» How many«meetings» does a cupcake shop need?! And is there not someone else there who can take my order and make sure it is fulfilled?! It’s now a week before the wedding and I don’t know if my friend will have gluten free cupcakes at her wedding or not… If you are in the business of cupcakes… you should probably have a better organization system for weddings and for people to order in advance. Don’t order here for wedding cupcakes. You can find better in the area… try bubble cake or even just make the cupcakes yourself… that’s probably what I’m going to have to do now that Viva has failed to make sure my friends wedding is taken care of.

We stopped in after having lunch at 1906 Ale House. We got the maple bacon cupcake, a blueberry cupcake, and a chocolate cheesecake cupcake. Each cupcake was very moist and delicious. I loved that the cupcakes did not have heaping mounds of overly sweet frosting, which left the cupcake feeling light. We were just visiting the area but if ever back we will stop in again.

We went to Pop’s right around the corner and decided to pop in here to try some cupcakes. Sadly, these cupcakes were a huge disappointment-and we ordered FOUR to try. The cake tasted like cake mix and the frostings were just bleh. We will not be coming back.

Eh, just so-so. We were tasting through the city and stopped in to have a comparison to bubblecakes, which we had earlier in the day. First impression was that the shop was«bland, very bland.» Second impression, very limited selection of cupcakes. Third impression, was of the very unenthusiastic, «I only have this job because I am forced to,» counter-help. The cupcakes we chose were ok, nothing spectacular. Icing isn’t overly sweet, which is a plus for me. Don’t think I would make it a point to go back.

I wish I had had the chance to come here more often! Their cupcakes aren’t overly sweet and TRULY taste like a homemade cupcake. They’re not ruined by a mountain of rot-your-teeth-out icing. Absolutely delicious and couldn’t be in a more perfect place than the beautiful Grandin area!

Yes, we love Viva. Not 5 stars because it’s really out of the way for me as I don’t live in the area, but I’ve been before and of course, I’ll come back. Great for people who think Bubblecake uses too much icing, there are different amounts so you can choose based on your personal icing-to-cupcake ratio. Also a minus, no signs on the case as to which flavors they are. The owner comes over and points and tells you what they have. By the time she gets through them all, you forget and either have to choose based on what you remember or ask her again. But, a major plus, she stirs ingredients into the batter itself, which is nice. The lemon raspberry has a ribbon of raspberry through it, something that Bubblecake doesn’t too. I do think they are too expensive though. She must be making a 90% profit on each cake. If she reduced the price to $ 2.00 she would make a heck of a lot more money because people would go there more often.

This place is awesome! They went above and beyond to ensure that my sister had a great birthday. I live in Tennessee and called to see if they could deliver some cupcakes to my sister who lives in Roanoke on her birthday and the lady on the phone was more than willing to help me out. She hand delivered them to my sister and it made her day. And on top of that my sister said the cupcakes were awesome. It was so refreshing to deal with people who truly understand customer service. I would recommend Viva La Cupcake to anyone in the Roanoke area!

First of all, the person who was working at Viva La Cupcake didn’t even know anything about the cupcakes! She told us what each cupcake was, and I asked her TWICE whether the s’mores cupcake had marshmallows and chocolate chips INSIDE the cupcake itself(because I thought that’s what she meant), and she said«Yes,» both times. Well, I got the cupcake and ate it… and there was no marshmallows or anything inside the chocolate cupcake. I was a bit disappointed and that’s why I chose that one! The cupcake was nothing special… in fact, the marshmallow icing fell off the cupcake as I was eating it. Another disappointment. The woman who was working was not friendly either. I don’t recommend this place at all!

I love this cupcake shop because not every cupcake is piled high with ridiculously sweet icing. There’s a wonderful variety for every taste from fruity and light to chocolatey and rich. She rotates out flavors throughout the week. My personal favorite is the lemon cupcake which is covered in a wonderful glaze as opposed to a heavy frosting. The cake is so delicious. Another nice touch is that you can buy a cupcake and the owner will send you off with a little cupcake holder that will protect it until you arrive at your destination. They also host birthday parties which is adorable.

A sweet little cupcake shop in the heart of Grandin Village. Luxurious cupcakes of all kinds imaginable: from key lime to s’more to turltles. This review is based on a first impression. My g/f and I got a turtle cupcake and a s’more cupcake and split them between us. The two hefty sized cupcakes(priced @ $ 3 ea) were deliciously moist. I could easily envision the shop owner’s friends and family saying: «Wow — you really should open a cupcake shop!» The only reason this isn’t a 5* rating is that the Turtle cupcake we had did not have the caramel we were expecting and the S’more cupcake didn’t have any graham cracker(although it did have a big gooey toasted marshmallow on top.) My friend thought the icing was a bit flat(not fluffy) — but you can bet that both of us will be back after a couple of trips to the gym to experience these guilty pleasures.
