Their biggest issue is providing a consistent experience. We have been here several times and early on had the pleasure of some very enjoyable meals. Unfortunately we have also had some less ‘optimal’ dining experiences mixed in since then. If you are willing to give them a shot — keep the above in mind. The good: — the hibachi can be good(for example shrimp or sirloin with fried rice) — some of their cook top chefs can be fun while cooking for you — their Japanese fried rice(with shrimp and/or chicken) is good — have had some good sushi The not so good: — some of their cook top chefs have absolutely no personality! Can be rather awkward — hibachi can take a long time — if you get behind a couple tables — can be expensive compared to food volume — sushi can be very slow and not the best some times The place has potential and sometimes meets it — it is just not capable of always doing so.

Worst dining experience and food ever! The wonton soup was too salty and the wontons were tough. The fried rice was disgusting and I literally had one bite. The almond chicken was dry in the inside and soggy on the outside; I only had two pieces. The worst was the Mongolian beef; the favors were very odd. I ate one piece and was trying to force myself to swallow it but couldn’t, so I spit it out. My fiancé and I barely touched our dishes so the waitress asked if we needed a box. We said no so she asked if we didn’t like it. My fiancé was honest and replied no. She seemed extremely upset and left without a word and brought our bill. We noticed an extra charge which was a 20% tip added to the total. We didn’t want to pay her 20% tip since she was rude and especially since her thumb was touching the inside of our soup bowl. When we left, she didn’t even say«goodbye» or «thank you.» Anyway, don’t go here cause the food is horrible and so is the service. This is the first time that we have not eaten our food. No matter how bad it was, we still ate it but couldn’t here.

I like consider myself someone who understands that there are some difficult times when it comes to restaurants and other food services providers. I am usually very understanding and sympathetic to the staff and give the benefit of the doubt. I go as far as to usually wait for three experiences at a particular place to properly judge it. This is not the case, however, with Fuji. Like others, I purchased a GroupOn for this place. We recently moved back to the area, and use GroupOn to «force our hand» so to speak to try other restaurants. Knowing that it was Valentines Day, I called ahead to make sure that I could use the GroupOn. When someone finally answered, I ask, «Can I use my GroupOn for sushi tonight?» «Yes, sir, you can.» Great! My wife loaded our three kids in the car, and I met them there on the way home from work. My family was already seated for 10 minutes or so, and my wife already started filling out our sushi order. I greeted my family, and finished our selections. Another 10 minutes or so goes by, and finally the waitress came a placed our order. I asked again about the GroupOn, and it wasn’t a problem. We sat there, waiting, for about 45 minutes until I asked how much longer. I was told it was«Coming soon. Right up.» Another 10 minutes goes by, and we get our first few things: Miso Soup & Edamame. These were actually very good. The miso soup had a ton of flavor, and was very bright and pleasant. Within another 15 minutes, the sushi started to come. In came in batches as it was made, which was fine at this point. We were just happy getting food finally after being there for over an hour. Every thing came but our final roll, which was a crispy/tempura roll. That took another 15 minutes or so. When that finally arrived, we were ready to call it a night, and asked for a box for it. We had been there for over an hour and half, and, if you know anything about kids, they were done. It took them another 15 minutes to bring me the box and check. At this point, I had my wife take the kids home, and I would pay and meet her there. When the waitress finally came to my table to get the check(another 10 minutes later), I told her that I had a GroupOn for my bill(the total was $ 95, and the GroupOn was worth $ 30). I was completely fine with letting the long wait(s) go. I understand you get slammed at times. However, there weren’t that many customers. 3 families at the hibachi, and three other booths to be handled by two servers. That seems sufficient. Here’s where it get fun… The waitress told me that I couldn’t use the GroupOn. Uh, what? I asked twice — even called ahead to make sure. She explained that it was only good for the Hibachi. «Well, I called ahead and asked.» After a few minutes of calm bickering, the waitress disappears(I may have said something to the point that I am not paying). A few minutes goes by, and she comes back. I stated that I want to use my GroupOn, and she reiterated that it is only for the hibachi. I start to get a little frustrated, and, thankfully, the manager/head cook/owner shoots out from the kitchen and says that I can use it. Ok, great. The waitress agains disappears. I wait a few minutes, and just walk up to the counter/hostess station to pay. The other waitress takes my bill, and proceeds to tell me I can’t use the GroupOn, but the manager/head cook/owner calls out and says I can. I give her my phone for the GroupOn, and have $ 66 in my hand for to cover the remaining balance. She begins to tell me that she needs to charge me 18% gratuity because of the GroupOn. Uh, what? Oh no you di-ent? I said that they are lucky that I am still willing to pay anything, let alone expect or demand that I pay a 18% tip. She offered to tack it on AFTER the GroupOn. Oh no. Perhaps she didn’t here me… At this point, I am done. Just done. I have been there over 2 hours. I had a miserable experience, and already vowing not to ever go back again. After she took the GroupOn, I grabbed my phone, and I threw the cash on the table, and said, «That’s enough.» and walk away. She walked out after me asking for more money. I just ignored her and kept walking to my car. I hate doing that, but I think it was justified. Some other highlights were: — Filthy(I mean FILTHY) bathrooms — Dirty dishes & glasses If I could give«NOSTARS» I would.

I’ve been to this place twice now going to The Palace. Both times food was ok. Nothing over the top great. The service was good and attentive. The problem I have with this place is both times we’ve come here they add the tip on secretively. Then when you get to the counter to pay and ask what that charge is they’re like«Not sure why this happened». 2nd time we’ve been there, 2nd time they’re confused why it happened. They want double tips, that’s why. Hate the scam factor of these people, but the kids love the Hibachi fun. They also ask if you prefer white or fried rice, then hit you with a $ 3 charge per person for fried rice. The place is empty at 7pm on a Friday night and the food and service is not the reason. It’s the deceitful hidden charges. I feel scammed and I KNOW it’s happening. Be honest people, you could then find your restaurant full someday.

I live down the street and haven’t been here in 6 years, if that says anything about the place. I find the sushi gross and the Chinese food subpar. However, we were in the mood for some cheesy jokes and knife tossing, so we tried the hibachi side of the restaurant. The restaurant was busy for a Friday night. Apparently one of the chefs called in sick. We sat for a good 40 minutes staring at strangers around a hot table waiting for the chef to finish at another grille. The waitresses were cranky and uninviting. When ‘Tony’ arrived he took the initiative to order us a round of drinks. Even though his jokes were the same as every other hibachi place and he made every attempt at throwing shrimps into his pocket and hat, he was a real delight to watch. Tony made the long wait worth it! The price was half as much as other area hibachis, but the additional beers during the long wait made up that gap in the bill. The server also added on a 20% tip. Not sure that was necessary… In the end I would recommend Fuji for your hibachi needs, as long as everyone shows up for work.

Unfortunately, this place is the reason I signed up for a Unilocal account. This was by far the WORST dining experience I have ever had. The sushi was dripping some kind of liquid, smelled like bad fish and had some strange color. I have had a lot of sushi, and this was BAD. When we brought this to the attention of the server she ignored us for about 20 minutes, then I asked for the owner and he just shrugged his shoulders and basically said«whatever» and didn’t care. We finally got the bill which was ridiculous given the fact that the food was inedible, but paid it and left because we couldn’t stand being in the place for another second. Hopefully I can save someone some grief. Ugh Yuk.

If I could have given it 0 stars I would have… I went to redeem my Groupon for Hibachi for 4 people at Fuji Japanese Steak House in Rochester Hills and was treated with the worst customer service imaginable. We got to the restaurant at 7pm and waited about 10 mins for a table. Once we were seated, it took the waitress over 30 mins to ask for our drink order after one member of our group went over to ask her. After placing the order, we then waited about 20 more mins for our drinks to actually be served and we still did not place our food orders. After explaining to the waitress that we purchased a Groupon, we told her what we wanted for our appetizer and entrees. The gist of the story is we got our onion soup in a timely matter but the waitress forgot to bring out our salads as well as serve us our appetizers(a new order had to made because she had forgotten about them). When we got our salads, one of the salads didn’t even have dressing on it. We finally got our appetizers at the same time the hibachi chef was preparing our food. Overall, the food was not bad but the service was just horrible at best. No one ever apologized for our entirely way to long wait and poor experience. From sitting in our seats to getting the bill, the meal took about 2 hours and 40 mins. We would see other groups of people leaving who had been seated after us. In addition, the waitress took the liberty of adding an 18% gratuity on our bill of 4 people when it clearly states in the menu gratuity will be added to groups of 5 or more.

I’m not the type to write these reviews, but this food was really bad – it was bland, flavorless hibachi. I’ve never seen or heard of a hibachi restaurant not using garlic. My Filet Mignon was overcooked and seasoned only with soy sauce. I’ve had better frozen fried rice – it was mushy and flavorless. Poor screening by Groupon. For good hibachi, try Kyoto or Katana in Royal Oak.

We purchased a Groupon for 2 hibachi dinners and an appetizer. We tried this place on a saturday night, got a babysitter for the evening and were excited to get a date night. It was a disaster. We made a reservation for 7:30 and when we arrived there was a sign on the front door saying that they were not accepting Groupons on Friday and Saturdays. No where on the Groupon did it say that it wasn’t valid on the weekends. We still went in and inquired and we were told we could get 15% off our bill. I don’t think so. When he saw that we were displeased he said that we could use our Groupon, but we needed to be discreet about it. Fine, we were seated about 10 minutes later. We sat at the grill with 3 other couples around a grill, who appeared to have been sitting for quite a while already. They had already eaten their soup. Our waitress came and took our drink order and we ordered the fried dumplings for our appetizer. Drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive. Soup was tasty. When the dumplings arrived they looked fine, but tasted horrible. The filling was unrecognizable, mushy and tasteless. We refused to eat it and sent it back. We were told that it would be taken off our bill, but our Groupon included an appetizer so I demanded that we get it replaced with something else. We ordered egg rolls which were OK, nothing to write home about. We saw the group around the grill next to us get their entire meal cooked while we starved. We literally sat for an hour and a half before our chef arrived to our table. The fried rice lacked flavor and our steak was overcooked(we asked for medium rare). The shrimp was tasty, but many of them still had the vein in them and several had shell left on. Service was OK, it was a bit slow. We had to hunt down our server several times and had to get up and find out where our check was so that we could get out of there(it was 10:30 by this time). I don’t see how they can be profitable with that kind of timing. It was incredibly aggravating to be there for 3 hours and get bad service and bad food on top of that. We missed most of the event we were headed to afterwards. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

THEWORSTRESTAURANTINMICHIGAN!!! Avoid at all costs. Food was horrible, over salted and greasy, the service was even worse. This place makes McDonalds look attractive. Food is highly overpriced. One star is actually generous…
