Great wings, but the service is a little slow! Its a little hole in the wall, and word on the street is that its the oldest bar in Rochester. You can definitely tell… Its a nice little spot to hang with friends and play pool and Foosball, and talk. It wasn’t too loud or crowded on any occasion I have been

The oldest bar in Rochester! This place is cool. It’s fun but it has a different vibe than most of the cliché bars around town.

I wanted to love circa-2015 Dicky’s. I’m a Rochester native who used to eat at Dicky’s on Fridays in the 1980s. The fish fry used to be made with fresh fish, beer battered and served in multiple non-uniform pieces that told the diner this was not some kind of reheated institutional food. The Dicky’s of 2015 is a disappointment in a number of ways. We called to ask when the dining room would open and were told 5 pm. We showed up around 5:30 to be told the Sysco delivery(yes, that same national restaurant supply mammoth that serves cafeterias that lack the energy and creativity to buy local) was late, so the fish was still frozen and would take at least 20 minutes to get ready. We waited and ordered a beer. Unlike the Dicky’s I remembered, the Genny Cream was served in a lukewarm can. Not even a draft from the local brewery. One of my table mates did order a draft, and it was fine. The fish fry was one large piece of haddock. It wasn’t cooked enough, so there was a mushiness between the fish and the batter. The fries were also Sysco frozen crap. Nothing remarkable at all about this meal. The room was cleaner than the old Dicky’s. But I’d rather have the dirt back if it meant good food.

Had a taste for wings so we decided to give Dicky’s a try. I heard from a good friend about their aussie wings. For my taste buds, the flavor was good, but I can’t say they were the best in Roc. This southwedge bar is on the corner of a residential area. The entrance leads into the bar but we headed to the back, past the darts for seating on the other side which has a foos and pool table. Our waitress, Kim is a sweetheart. She was super friendly and offered us suggestions for us newbies. We ordered the popular aussie wings which had a tangy sweet and slighty spicy kick. The flavor was good with a plentiful amount of sauce coating the wings. I prefer softer crusts so these wings were crispy on the outside and more chewy than I like. This is true of our second order of wings, which was teriyaki, that were also popular per Kim. These were not slathered with sauce, but rather drizzled with ginger aoili sauce and the wings were seasoned with salt and pepper. The aoili sauce was pleasant with light flavors of ginger, but the wings were way too salty. Also, we got an order of cajun and sweet potato fries. I didn’t find anything special about them. There was cajun spice on fries and the sweet potato fries were plain with no additional seasoning. I’ll try their beer if I come again, but probably not for a chicken wing fix.

This divey place has a special place in my heart for their Aussie Wings and Beer rotation and selections. Not my type of place but I will never think myself above stopping here and enjoying my fave wings in town. Kim is an awesome bartender and I always have a good and pleasant experience when she is working. Now, on to the aussie wings! They are crispy on the outside and tender juicy on the inside. The aussie sauce is sweet and tangy. Almost like sweet and sour sauce mixed with buffalo sauce. It’s the only way I can describe them. If that isn’t your thing don’t worry. They offer your typical wing sauce variety. On Sundays all wings are half off. I always find new beer selections on tap every time I visit. On my latest stop I had a glass of Green Flash beer, about 10% alcohol(from what I can remember). For my second glass I opted to try the 90 Minutes which had roughly the same content. The décor is pretty much salvaged memorabilia of one nature or another. They have 2 airplane seats on the bar side… that pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the joint. They have a nice jukebox too with good selections of tunes. On the other side of the bar you can find a fooseball table and pool table on one end. The other end is the dining area that can fit a god amount of people. I can say it’s very good for groups depending on your party. My ONE and only complain are the restrooms… they are grades above the bathrooms at bug jar(from last I visited 8 years ago), but are still pretty unnerving. My friends live nearby so I pretty much hold it until the end of the nite: D

I love this place. No one will ever use Unilocal to decide if this is the place for them. It’s local, with history, has a close group of friends, great pool teams, good drinks, stories to tell every night, great people in and out every single day, and you know what? Its a DIVE! That’s what makes Dicky’s a classic. This my anti Unilocal review of the place I call my second home. 1 star and keep it that way boys!

Ive never in my life felt so unwelcome in a bar. Ive been in here several times because I live down the street and every time I’m in dickys the person behind the bar is just that… a DICK. I don’t want to walk into an establishment where the bartender makes me feel like I’m putting them out because they have to do their JOB. And the staff at Dickys is super good at it. The bar food is pretty good but the service on the food end lacks as well. I waited over 45 minutes for shit you’ve gotta dump in a fryer? Ill be passing this [;ace by for the rest of my life and couldn’t be happier about it!

Awesome dive bar with friendly bartender who made us feel at home. From the old airplane seats to the peeling paint off the men’s room sink, this is the quintessential dive bar, which is a dying breed. Cheap, cold tall boys in cans. Decent draft selection and yummy sounding menu, we really enjoyed ourselves. My only gripe: the bar stool rail prevents snuggling up the the bar top itself. Beyond that bar rail is the trough where men would urinate right at the bar. No women. Sounds like heaven to me.

True definition of a dive bar. Its one of the oldest bars in Rochester if not the oldest now. It used to be a gentleman’s club and you can see a troth under the bar where guys could just urinate into while not having to get up from the bar. Food is standard fried food. Prices are cheap here.

When I lived on Cayuga st I used to play pool here all the time. It’s always fun and there’s a lot of people to get a game with. The bartenders double as servers and have always been superb coming out and bringing you the drinks and food. I’m also happy that I’ve seen them ask rude and confrontational people to leave, making it a nice place to go.

I fully enjoyed my night out at Dicky’s. The bartender was welcoming and friendly. I had driven past Dicky’s countless times, but didn’t think to much of it. It has a very plain exterior, but inside it’s another story. It’s most definitely a dive bar, but those tend to be my favorite. After a juke box and Genesee 16oz tall boy fueled night, I quickly decided Dicky’s was pretty awesome. I love any place that serves«Red Eye» tall boys. If you want a relaxed evening away from the hectic club scene downtown, check out Dicky’s.

I drive by Dicky’s every day and nothing has made me stop to check it out. However, my friends chose this as the meeting point on Halloween night. It’s much smaller than I imagined, just bar seating and a little extra sanding room. The beer selection is small but offers good choices, too many of which were IPAs that night(I like IPAs, but also variety). I saw food come out a few times but it looked like average bar food and not very appetizing. It’s a dive bar, that’s for sure. I’d rather spend my night at Caverly’s down the street or Tap and Mallet around the corner.

Not bad for a dive bar. Friends were heading there for Halloween and it’s walking distance in the South Wedge. I liked the clean bar counter, license plate decorated wall, airplane seats, and the beer selection. They had a notable cider and everything else seemed to be an IPA. I’m not sure if they rotate beers, but right now, you better like your IPA.

Awesome neighborhood dive bar oozing historic character, complete with unbridled personalities that make for interesting conversation as long as you’re not the sensitive type. Great menu with daily specials, but take note that the wings take longer than at most places because they do them well every time, which is not always made clear to hungry patrons.

Dicky’s is a dive bar, no mistaking it. But they have a great draft selection, a pretty good liquor selection, and they ice the cake with great specials all the time. The bar section is a little cozy, which also means it can occasionally be a little rowdy, but that’s part of the charm/atmosphere. They have a dart board(albeit electronic) and a serviceable pool table. There’s a restaurant area that’s also great for sitting with friends when you need a quieter option than the bar, and this is also where they have trivia on Tuesday nights. I’ve never really eaten here – just got waffle fries once, which were great, but, you know, nothing to judge a menu by. But the drinks? Five stars.

Tucked in a South Wedge neighborhood off Meigs St., this is my friends’ favorite dive bar. We’ll head over here when Watertown friends come for a visit to Rochester. We spend the evening drinking beer and vodka sodas, while watching the gents battle it out on the fooseball table. Word on the street is that it’s the oldest bar in Rochester, originally opening in 1880. Not my top choice for an outing; the bartenders can sometimes have an attitude, but of course, you’ll see me in here again at some point.

I’m a meat eater. who loves veggies burgers. Shoot me. …with testosterone, I guess? We’re going out to drink, but damn it, I’m hungry. Arrive at Dicky’s. They have a menu! I ask a friend what he likes to get from here, he said the veggie burger is good. I’m in. The catch? They deep fry that sucker. Different, but you know what? Not half bad! It came out a little dry on the outside, maybe a little too long in the fryer, but it was good. The french fries were DAMN good. Best fries I’ve had in a long time! I asked the others in the group to help me finish them. They were gone in no time. Drinks were priced about right, and the bartender was awesome. Sure the place wasn’t packed, but she was super friendly and attentive. Since we only stayed an hour or two, I didn’t have much of a chance to get a feel for the place. It seemed pretty laid back, cozy, dart board at the back. Even though my friend said he doesn’t like to come here much, he demolished his plate of buffalo wings sooo… Then again, any bar that isn’t Lux, just isn’t that great to him. ;)(Just kidding, dude.) When I’m back in town, I’m sure I’ll be hitting up Dicky’s again.

First started going in Spring 2010 when it re-opened, and I liked it a lot. The staff was friendly, drinks cheap, and the food decent too. Went there on a Friday night in July and was extremely disappointed. I’m a pretty normal looking young drink-seeker who felt like putting on a nice POLO for the night, big mistake. The Black-Leather clad, sport-bike-punk crowd didn’t take a liking to two«unfamiliars» wearing nicer clothing coming into their place. Rude comments began before we even got in the doors from the smokers outside. Once inside, there was nearly a fight between two guys right next to me, they were shoving each other and yelling. The bartender/owner seemed to enjoy watching them rather than stop them. The draft beers were terrible and skunky, and they wouldn’t even serve us last-call even though we asked at 1:50am. Bottom line? I don’t need their sh**ty drinks and attitudes, they clearly don’t need my business. Steering clear in the future.

This place is already becoming my standby pub. The food is surprisingly good, there is a decent selection of beer, and the place is clean and friendly. What more can you ask for from your neighborhood watering hole?

Wow, first to review?!? Great loacl pub back in action! Nestled into the south wedge this little gem shines on a Friday night. Drawing from all barsters you can’t really peg it as a ‘head’ bar or a ‘punk’ bar or a college bar. Just a great secluded little place with pool tables. Tucked into the south wedge hood. Very nice place to stop for a drink!(Glad they brought back the orig name too). Side Note: My friends father — a ROC native says that back in the GOODOLDAYS Dicky’s used to be a «gentleman’s bar» — at such male only establishment, there was a urine trough right under the serving bar. Unconfirmed… anyone ever heard of that? order a drink while draining the…
