This is a review of the Cuban sandwich from El Latino Express at the July 2014 Food Truck Rodeo. It was amazing. Every bite was so delicious I couldn’t believe it. Many people around me were eating fried plantains and other things from this truck. I will order the Cuban again next time as well. There’s something about the way latino’s cook pork that makes it truly amazing. I believe it’s the particular cut of pork they use that’s special. You practically have to cut it with heavy duty kitchen shears. It’s soooooo good.

We came to the public market for Bands on the Bricks, which happened to be Latino night. We found the food truck, El Latino Express, towards the end of the night so by the time we ordered they only had chicken or beef empanadillas. Their menu also consisted of pinchos(kabobs), fried plantains, bacalaitos(fried cod fish) and a meal rice plate. We got one beef empanadilla for $ 4. Reflecting back to my first impression last night, I am reminded of the JLo song, Olé Olé because the empanadilla was Oily, Oily! After taking a few bites of the part greasy, part crispy and flaky empanadilla, there was a pool of oil or beef juice gathered in the foil. My stomach hopes it was the latter. I’ve never had such a juicy empanadilla before. I wanted to be cognizant of the beef flavoring, but it was hard to get past the oiliness. The woman mentioned that they opened less than a year ago and partake in the food truck rodeos. I hope I see them at the next rodeo so I can give them another shot, or at least their other menu items. She also said they have a Facebook page for followers.
