I go here all the time with both my family and boyfriend, and I find everything to just be average. The pizza is good, but I’m a bigger fan of thick crust, and I’m bored with most of the choices by now, so I might like some better, more affordable specials options. The deserts are pretty tasty, especially the blueberry cobbler, but I find the cupcakes to be subpar. They’re always not that fresh and the flavors are nothing extraordinary. The waitstaff is always very nice, and there never seems to be any sort of wait when I go.

Very attentive staff, good food, only complaint is that it was slightly chilly in the restaurant. Good amount of customers. We had French fries Mac and cheese balls and pizza + Heath bar dessert. Dessert was so rich!

Decent food. Reasonable prices. Sort of hit and miss though. Some things are delicious, some are just ok. Overall can’t ever say I’ve had anything«bad» though. Not great but not terrible.

I have been to Matt’s several times. Although I would admit the service is mixed(last time I went it took 15 minutes to get three waters) however I am always blown away that the reviews never mention anything about the QUICHE. Its a daily special, they usually have two or three different flavors a day and it is by far the best quiche I have ever eaten in my life. My family now orders them for parties, functions etc. It’s literally incredible. So fluffy and creamy. You are missing out if you don’t order it.

My wife and I enjoyed our meals very much. I had Guinness pork roast with mashed potatoes and butter nut squash. The pork was perfectly tender and moist and so tasty. The potatoes and squash were also excellent. My wife had French meat pie. She loved it. I tried it and it was excellent. The crust was flakey and delicious. The meals had a real home cooked taste. It’s a cozy place with an open, clean kitchen and friendly staff. We will return soon.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, a little hidden gem. Had a very wonderful evening. It was our first time here and were very pleasantly surprised. I had the Angus tips which were great and my husband had the Guinness pork loin which melted in your mouth. Highly recommend this place and can’t wait to go back.

We liked the restaurant, however when asked for bread with our meals we were literally thrown a couple of slices of white bread. The kicker was when we were CHARGED for it. Are you kidding? Talk about nickel and diming!!!

Just visited Matts Blackboard. There are 5 things I look for in a restaurant — menu options, service, ambiance, food quality and consistency. Today’s visit scores a 4 in each category. I always want fried seafood when I visit Massachusetts and Matt’s delivered. I started with the clam chowder which was seasoned well and had generous amounts of clams and potatoes — simple and delicious. Next came a special — clam cakes — 6 golden nuggets served with lemon and their tartar sauce. I’ve had many of these across New England, and these were among the best. Perfectly cooked with a very delicate crust. Lots of flavor and great taste. Third course was a special of fried haddock, clams and French fries served with their cole slaw. The haddock was in a tasty light batter — very enjoyable. The clams were whole and in a slightly different batter, but were amazing nonetheless. Fries were your basic type and were the lowlight of the meal. The menu is extensive and covers all the culinary bases. The ambiance is simple, quiet and tasteful — very comfortable. Service was attentive and we were always checked on in regular intervals. I’ve been here twice before and it remains very consistent. Highly recommended for your visit to downtown Rochester MA!

My husband and I enjoyed a great meal here; I had the brocolli and penne Alfredo and he had the shrimp scampi. All of the ingredients were extremely fresh, recipes were very tasty, ambiance was relaxing and restaurant was very clean.

My boyfriend and I just stopped in for dinner on our long drive back home to Maryland. I was quite surprised with how AWESOME the food was! I got a cup of Lob bisque to start and he got the corn and scallop fritters, both very good. For dinner we had fish&chips and an Italian cold sub, both delicious! We will probably never be back seeing as we live 7 hours from here but I definitely recommend this place to anyone nearby! OH, and the chef even came over to talk to us about our recent vacation! Awesome service, great food, friendly chef! 5 stars(:

My husband and I were in the area and found the blackboard on line. We both had hamburgers and fries. They were cooked to order and delicious. We shared their homemade strawberry shortcake also delicious. I have a seafood allergy and they made sure my fries were cooked in fresh oil. Our waitress was very professional and personable. If we ever make it to this area again be sure that we will eat at the black board.

Sticky tables, and the food is overpriced. Asked the waitress for a «pizza box» for pizza left overs. The waitress said«sure» then she crammed my 5 slices into a «small container» on top of one another all while using her bare hands!!! DISGUSTING and GROSS food handling observed!!! She could of easily just brought a pizza box over. Why would I want someone who handles money, touching piece by piece of my food with no gloves on? Totally ruined my enjoyment of eating here! Train your staff on proper food handling techniques.

What a superb visit we had here, tremendous pizza. it had recently been taken over, I don’t remember the previous business but the location is quite good. If anything is a little on the light side it would be the tables, they are a bit on the small side, like a former small ice cream place or what have you. It wasn’t the biggest deal but the place deserves better seating.

I have been a few other times and seated at tables and the service is very mixed. The last time I went I was on my own so I sat at the Bar on the restaurant side. Matt was cooking, he runs the kitchen of that place great! Very clean and organized and went from slip to slip and just kept turning out food. Clear and polite orders to the kitchen staff and the staff all were professional and attentive. My service at the counter was also great. But I was able to look and see what was happening in the dining room, very mixed. Some of the servers and bus staff were very attentive and professional while others were slower more social than needed and gossip girls. Some of the patrons also seemed very high maintenance. Townies that wave at everyone there and treat it as though it is their home and not a business where everyone is a paying customer.

My new favorite place for pizza. I chowed down on a sausage pepperoni and caramelized onion pizza. Thin crispy crust. I think I just might have to order pizza this Sunday for the football games. I can’t wait to fill my belly.

This was our first time here. The space is cozy and I loved the décor. Our waitress was impatient with us when we were unsure what to order. The food came out quickly, but everything was just«meh.» The pulled pork tasted distinctly like a crock pot; the mashed potatoes were bland and forgettable; the mac and cheese was probably the best part, but not spectacular. The meatloaf was tasty, but the portion was small. The prices, at least, were quite reasonable. The«meh» food would have been more forgivable if the server hadn’t had such a bad attitude. She just seemed like she hated being a server. We may give it another try, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here again.

I have been there twice. There is no need for a third try. Was there on a Thursday night with an outside temp of 15 degrees. I was surprised at how busy they were. Before I give a less than perfect review, let me say that I think this place has potential and I intend to give them another chance. I wanted red wine with dinner, but there was no Cabernet or Red Zinfandel to be had. Giving up on the wine, I ordered a draft Bud. Was then told they were out of draft Bud and the only other draft they had was Bud Lite. I ordered a bottled beer. We ordered our meals which included salads. The waitress asked us if we wanted the salads first and our answer was«Yes». The salads came with dressing on the side. We both liked the creamy garlic dressing, but it would have been better if it wasn’t so dense. It was almost as thick as sour cream. We were both enjoying our salads and were about 25% through when our main dishes arrived. We would have much preferred to have finished our salads before getting the main dishes. Other than the rush to finish our salads, the service was quite good. My wife ordered a broiled Shrimp, Scallop, and fish combo. If was very tasty and properly cooked. The side dishes with the fish were average. I ordered the St, Louis Ribs with a side of mac & cheese. The Mac & Cheese was the best I have had in a long time. I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10. The low point of the visit were the ribs. They were very dry and tasted like the pre-cooked(heat & eat) ribs you get in the supermarket in vacuum sealed plastic. Do NOT order ribs here. Looking at the tables near us, the lasagna and pizza looked good. I would like to go back and try these. On my second trip, they had run out of lasagna, so I ordered chicken parm. It was worth less than 3 stars because it was significantly over cooked(dry). The spaghetti and sauce were unremarkable. I tried a glass of the Bogle Red wine and was pleasantly surprised. My wife ordered the steak tips with«Matt’s Special Sauce». It tasted like regular BBQ sauce and did not go well with the tips. We both liked the french fries.

Had an event of 40 people catered by Matt and it was spectacular. The lasagna was SOGOOD and the salad fresh and plentiful. We love going to Matt’s for the quality of food and being able to watch the cooks when we sit at the bar. One of our GO-TO places that has never disappointed.

Steak tips, ribs, pizza were cooked to order and hot when served. Total was under 130 $ so very affordable(3 apps were also ordered).

Matt’s Blackboard is totally forgettable. Food is meh and so is the service. I’ve eaten their pizzas a few times at work luncheons and to be honest, they’re not great. Crusts so crunchy they hurt your mouth and cheese so greasy you need a bib. The mac and cheese is OK, but nothing to rave about. A recent trip for lunch with coworkers was my first time dining in the restaurant and not takeout. Service wasn’t great. Not terrible but we were sort of left to our own devices. I ordered a lobster roll and requested it without chowder as it was listed on the specials board. The portion was insulting and the meat was dry. Then the bill came and they only dropped a buck from the price for not getting the chowder. So $ 14.99 for maybe a ¼ cup of dry lobster salad was quite a disappointment. Had I not been with coworkers, I honestly would’ve complained about my meal. Oh well, now I know to skip it next time.
