I now go here once a week with my family. The waitstaff knows us and will sometimes even bring our usual drinks right away. We have gone on a couple of busier weekends, such as this past Father’s Day, and the wait hasn’t been too bad. This is definitely the first place I recommend for breakfast or brunch!

Innovative dishes. Trendy breakfast place but priced a little high for what you get IMO. Can be busy so don’t go in a rush. Like trying their specials.

Visited again and just beat the crowd on a Friday morning by 8:30. I can summarize my visit in two words: Mojo Hash. Order it and be happy! This place is quaint, busy, homey, unique, friendly and set up to go long. Not your typical grits & eggs format. Me-like-a-lot!

I loved The Yolk but when you were the 6th party waiting on the list which it could have been 20 min wait turned out to be an 1hr wait. Try to explained your 2 small kids why is taking so long. After the 30 min I went inside to checked our name and she has scratch our name and kipped, she apologies and add my name back, well few min later, went inside again to check and she is on the second page of the list, again, I asked her if she called us.“oops«she skipped our name again. Really…

This was our first time trying The Yolk Café and it was amazing! We normally like to eat at Toast in tega cay, but this is ranking at the top of my list now! I had egg Benedict and my husband had the veggie omelet, both were delicious! The TN fries are a must as well! Our kids had the chip and dale kids meal. Let’s just say their plates were empty at the end! Definitely going back!

Food is good but a bit pricey for the quality. I get take out a lot and they often mess up my to go order. I always get Tennessee Fries and I’ve gotten grits instead a lot. I always have to wait because they claim they are too busy to take to-go orders via phone. Yet, they forget I’m waiting and my food sits and gets cold while I wait. Its usually not worth waiting on. I spend over 40 bucks to get eggs, bacon, and Tennessee fries for 3 and its cold and wrong. I go when I’m too lazy to drive to Toast in fort mill.

The Yolk is my favorite place in town and the pennell barn hash is my favorite meal in town. Once I convinced my parents who came from out to town to wait an hour for a table, both said it was totally worth it. The grits are probably the best I’ve ever had! I wish we had more places like it around here. The only negatives are the coffee is overpriced and the wait staff isn’t especially attentive.

So I finally made it here. Two words: The grits! Anywhere I’ve ever gone, the grits are terrible, because the chef refuses to season the water before the cooking process. Any southern momma will tell you it’s impossible to season them after the cooking process. This, without a doubt, was the absolute best bowl of grits I’ve ever eaten in my life… Sorry mom. Paired with a pecan Belgium waffle, eggs and bacon, perfection. The staff was sweet, and I was able to enjoy my solo breakfast in peace. I’ll be back for sure. Oh, those grits!

BRUNCH. Come for brunch. Be prepared to wait. Even thought they moved after a fire. The new location is still a little small. They are always full, but you know that means good food because people keep coming back for more. 10−28−16 SLOWSERVICE. Came before church. Don’t come before church or if you are in a rush. Service was slower than normal but I guess that is what you get for a breakfast place. No one is in a rush! We shouldn’t be either I guess. My TN fries were very greasy this time.

My friend and I came to the Yolk on Sunday morning around 10. There was no wait. Both servers we had contact with were friendly and welcoming. I love the big family table in the middle of the restaraunt, but we sat at a smaller table. We both ordered eggs over cheese grits, and she had sausage with hers. I chose a biscuit for my bread. The eggs were cooked over medium just as I asked. But, unfortunately the dish was extremely salty. The biscuit was non traditional in that I believe it must have been a whole grain variation. It was good, and it was warm. It was disappointing though to have a little prepak of commercial grape jelly served with it. All in all, breakfast was okay, but not worth going out of our way for again.

Yepper, we got a winner! Super easy to find, plenty of parking, and a small line waiting for a table. I grabbed one of a handful of empty chairs at the community table and had the most enjoyable breakfast talking with a complete stranger(coincidentally, he was doing the same and traveled from afar to check it out). Nice :) I like the menu with its plethora of ideas that can be combined to arrive at a dish you savor. The food is excellent and the wait staff is friendly and well-trained. Solid 5-star rating. Only regret? They are not in Charlotte.

Worst experience I have ever had at this place! The food was super salty and they could not get our order right! Add to that the obnoxious preteen girls sitting behind me bouncing around and falling back in their seat onto the back of my seat and you have one horrible dining experience!

We love the yolk! My husband and I always get the«if two by land», and it’s so good! They’re grits are the perfect consistency, not too runny and not too firm, and the eggs are cooked perfectly to order every time. My husband substituted his toast for a biscuit on our last trip, which is the only thing we won’t be ordering again, it was dark brown and very heavy– we like our biscuits light and fluffy. Be prepared to wait on the weekends, or sit at the community table. It’s well worth the wait.

And it’s Unilocal for the WIN! It’s our anniversary today and we wanted something new for breakfast/brunch, so I Unilocaled Rock Hill breakfast joints and came up with The Yolk Café! I am SOOOOOO glad I did! We arrived a little around 930 on a Saturday morning and there were folks milling around the outside of the café inside the strip mall — so I thought — well that’s a good sign… if you’re willing to have a wait on a Saturday morning, must be good, right? You walk in and sign the clipboard if you want a table to yourself and we did, but there is a community table down the center of the room that, from what we could tell, was first come, first served where you dine next to other parties that you don’t know… but probably will before your meal is over. I think this is a darling idea, but since we were celebrating our big day and all, we opted to wait about 20 minutes to be seated in the door turned table booth all to ourselves. Our waitress was Joy and she was super friendly and helpful with the questions I had about the selections on the menu. I ended up choosing the Garden Delight omelet minus tomatoes with the TN fries, which are like home fries(chunked Yukon Gold potatoes) and chose smoked gouda cheese at our waitress’ suggestion. The omelet was made with 3 eggs, squash, zucchini, spinach, caramelized onions and the cheese and was SO delicious. My husband ordered three eggs over easy with TN fries and toast and was very pleased — and spoke super highly of the TN fries as they were crispy, salty and perfectly seasoned! We ordered a bowl of grits a la cart because they were so highly regarded and it was a good idea because they were SO yummy. And I’m picky about grits. They were so good that you thought — I’m so sure that these are so full of unhealthy stuff, but then you eat another bite and say«who cares?’ I would whole heartedly recommend them. The hubby got the bold coffee and said it was good, perhaps not great, but for $ 2.50 he had a couple of refills and even a to go cup with is a great deal. I had just water, but was SO super excited to see they had pellet ice — sweeeet! For just under $ 25 we ate like kings and won’t need to eat again until supper time for sure! I saw several things on the menu I wanted to try, so we’ll have to go back so I can sample them. Please go check this place out — it is such a gem on the corner spot of the Food Lion anchored strip mall — there is NO sign at the road, but the address in my GPS did work just fine.

The food was cold and the wait once they took our order was very long. Maybe we caught them at a bad time. The building itself was very cold and to get cold food was just a huge disappointment after such a long wait. The omelet was over done, the bacon wasn’t done enough and my over easy eggs were cooked through. It had probably been sitting on the counter too long. The menu had a ton of great options, like sweet potatoes, beets, jalepeño jam, and turkey bacon. But I don’t think we’ll be back. Head on over to Toast in Fort Mill! The food there is quick, hot, and delicious and the décor is cozy, warm, and friendly.

We came here because our friend said it was good. We were in town on business so we said why not. If I remember correctly, it was seat yourself. There weren’t many people in there but I’m sure glad we came when we did because the restaurant filled quickly after we arrived. Our server took forever to come and take our drink orders. The server brought us our drinks and disappeared, which is weird because the restaurant is so small. It gave us time to look around. First thing we noticed is the lack of a ceiling. There were many spider webs and dust that was very visible. That seemed odd and very unsanitary. We kept noticing the small things like the windows that haven’t been washed for a while and the floor that had been lazily swept and not mopped. Our server came back after about 7 or 8 minutes and took our order. I ordered some hipster chorizo egg scramble and my wife ordered a two egg scramble. After orders came we started eating and almost right away my wife saw A BIGBLACKHAIRINHERFOOD. My wife’s hair is blonde so we knew it wasn’t hers. We immediately called for our server. They seemed offended that we were asking them to take it back. Until I said something they weren’t even going to take her order off the bill. They were rolling their eyes, acting if we were making a big deal overall nothing. The food overall was mediocre at best, nothing fabulous. The place was unsanitary and dirty and their wait staff was rude. Not our kinda place. *Word to the wise: if you’re coming here thinking of a Denny’s or other simple eggs or waffles stay away from this place. All they have are hipster dishes. P. S. After reviewing their latest reviews I think it was our fault for not checking Unilocal before coming here. It appears most reviewers have not been happy as of late. This should be a signal to the management and ownership to take control before their business suffers.

Not bad, not great. Mediocre in that the price you pay for the amount of food you get is skewed-in their favor. Got the eggs Benedict with tn fries. Fries were good but mini English muffins to make the portion look big I guess??? Never have even seen a mini English muffin. I was still hungry when we left but $ 36 lighter in the wallet. IHOP may be a chain but I know what I’m getting myself into and have never left hungry, oh and had an extra $ 10 to boot. I’m all aboot local and small but can’t justify a handie just because this is rock hill’s version of hip.

This is a brunch staple for us! The food is always amazing. On our most recent visit, I got pecan pancakes with a side of sausage. My boyfriend got the grilled cheese, two wings and Tennessee fries. We’ve had the shrimp and grits, waffle, omelettes, and so much more and it’s always great. The servers are always friendly. We like the community table option and have met a lot of great people just by sitting down and sharing a meal with them. This is a great spot and worth the travel from Charlotte.

Did I pick the worst day ever to go to Yolk? Probably, yes. July 3rd. Was I the only one that had work off? No, everyone else in the world did too. It had been raining, so no outdoor seating. The people next to us had been waiting 1 hour. Our wait was 30 minutes. We had just gotten to the point of leaving when they called us. Our waiter was nice and apologetic. That did not temper the news that they were out of grits and biscuits, so our choices were limited. How does a breakfast place run out of grits and biscuits? I did not get to try Fire in The Hole. Maybe next time… The Mo Joe hash was very good: tender pieces of coffee marinated steak and diced sweet potatoes with two runny eggs on top. Wow! Heavenly hash! The Eggs Benedict were stellar. I had a bite of Chip and Dale — no not the Chipmunks, but the chocolate chip waffle = mmm! The Tennessee Potatoes are lightly crisped and perfectly seasoned. Nothing is average here — even the wheat toast was not your average toast — it was great and had that artisanal flavor. For small parties there’s a communal table in the middle of the restaurant — first come, first serve. The wait list can be confusing. It was self-sign in when I went. It also appeared that when people went to the community table, they didn’t take their names off the list. The food is five star in my book — I just wish they had more things on the menu I could have tried(that weren’t 86’ed) — for that reason and the wait time, I bumped off a star. With all that said, I’m still a fan and can’t wait to eat more of their delicious grub!

We planned on Easter breakfast at our local breakfast place, but they were closed… and I’m so glad they were or we would have never stumbled upon this gem! We were on the road to the beach so we turned to Unilocal for suggestions along the way. The Yolk came up with great reviews so we gave it a whirl! We sat at the community table and had some great conversation with some lovely locals while ate(very) delicious food. Service was friendly, too! Considering that The Yolk is 30 mins from home I don’t anticipate frequent visits, but when I have a hankering for their delicious Coffee-rubbed Steak Hash… we will be back!

Extremely impressed with the ambiance, courteous staff, presentation of dish and food. I tried the shrimp and grits dish with a side marble rye toast and mild coffee The dish was a mixture of unique and authentic flavors. The grits had a creamy and buttery texture; which complimented fresh sautéed(or grilled) shrimp. The shrimp and grits were accentuated with the two sauces. One was a smoked hickory-cinnamon like sauce and the other was their infamous scallion pesto. A final touch was their freshly grated American cheese on the grits. It certainly added to the creamy flavor already present in their buttery grits. The only con for this dish and a suggestion would be to decrease usage of butter so it doesn’t feel too oily. Overall however I really loved this place and will be recommending it to my Maryland BMX friends who visit Rockhill.

«Everything is awesome.» The Lego Movie? No. That song is actually about The Yolk. Get brunch here. You will love it. A few things to know: * There is a long«community table» in the center of the place. This is first come, first serve. The booths along the walls have a sign-in sheet. This is confusing for first-time guests, but, works well once you understand it. * The place get super busy on Saturday morning starting around 9am. Kids got you up at 6am on Saturday? Go early to the Yolk! * For parents, Rock Hill has a great playground to visit after b If you haven’t been here, you should know The Yolk’s prior location had a huge # of 5 star glowing reviews. The Yolk moved a few blocks after a fire, and Unilocal created a new listing for the new location instead of updating the address on the original listing.

What a great little place with a 6 month old temporary sign. Tucked into a strip mall off MT. Gallant road, The Yolk is hard to see from the road, so look at the end of the strip for a patch of white with unreadable letters on it and you have found it. Somewhat hippyish, The Yolk has lots of healthy vegetarian concoctions that will more that satisfy the vegans. A nice hash of root veggies and no-meat options for egg dishes are plentiful. But for the carnivors there are many other excellent options. First is their coffee. Rich, strong delicious. In fact they now offer a medium blend that is less strong and both are satisfactory. And it keeps coming. I am amazed at the clever variations to standard dishes that this breakfast/lunch place serves. Chicken gravy over biscuits with a jalapeño jelly relish blop in the middle of the pool. Spicy, savory and makes the dish. Suggested omelettes with and without meat and many with nice choirzo and spice. Some sweet spices and others with back of your throat spice. All are good. Even my 96 year old dad loved and totally consumed their French toast. No surprise as it was like candy in sweetness. Tables are old doors covered with plexiglass and their are«things» under the glass ranging from Life Magazines to programs and newspaper advertisements. Something to do while sipping your brew until your meal comes to you. Portions are generous and the savoriness and spice very filling. Service is excellent and the kitchen pops out orders pretty regularly, but slows when there is a crowd. A different, nice different, café from the regular Southern breakfast and lunch fare. Worth a check-out.

I have been to the other location in the past but it’s been a while. I took my 2 girls to The Yolk this morning for our Saturday morning ritual of going out and eating a good breakfast on Saturday morning. We got there just in time, before the crowds and snagged the last booth before there became a wait. On first glacé it was a nice, new location. They had a long communal table in the center and booths surrounding. We were greeted and sat promptly. They had plenty of servers and everyone seemed happy. I ordered the double play, eggs over easy which came with toast, bacon and potatoes. I added a bowl of grits. Everything came out cooked to perfection, eggs runny and potatoes were well seasoned. I thought the grits were a bit salty for my taste, but they were well cooked so no biggie. My # 1 daughter ordered the dark chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips and chocolate buttercream, she likes chocolate. OMG, they were decadent. Light, fluffy and had wonderful flavor. My # 2(That’s sounds weird huh?) had the silver dollar pancakes which were flat out the best pancakes I’ve tasted. Sweet buttermilk flavor and just plain awesome. The crowd started building and it was a bit cold outside and The Yolk doesn’t have much of a waiting area so it was getting crowded just as we wound down. Overall it was a good experience. Good, down home cooking with plenty of pizazz. I do have a few suggestions. 1) They didn’t have Apple Juice, you need Apple Juice when you serve breakfast. 2) Your bacon sucks. It is very thinly sliced and tastes like paper. A place of your caliber should have thick sliced, well smoked bacon. Trust me, if I’m paying $ 9.00 for breakfast I won’t mind ponying up a little more for good, memorable bacon. I’m out…

The Yolk Café is worth the journey to Rock Hill! I’m so happy they are opening a location Uptown in a month or so! I was floored by my breakfast, I mean totally shocked. Service was really good, coffee was delicious, we ordered a couple of plates and shared. My highlight was white mac and cheese with charred radicchio and pecan gremolata with an egg over easy flopped in the middle! The grits were some of the best grits, I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Super fattening, the way grits should be and salted correctly. Count me in! It has such a good vibe, the owners are there and it seems like a friendly, family work environment, it shines through with the service and food.
