Dandy Donuts

I really don’t know how to improve on the other comments. This place is off the hook! Won a gift certificate from a 5K and thought it was bazaar that a gift to donut place for a run would be appropriate. It works, customer for life… fantastic food

Little pieces of fried heaven. I got the mini donuts and all I can is YUM! I got four of each just to try them all. Powder was my favorite. Exceptionally friendly atmosphere. I found the place on Unilocal and with the good reviews I thought I’d give it a chance, can’t be happier that I did. Visiting friends and with them not be too eager to wake up before noon, I thought I’d venture out to find some breakfast. I planned on sharing but I nearly ate the whole dozen myself. They are mini so I can’t be too disappointed with myself and they are too good to let cool. If I’m ever back in the area is love to try their menu food, the place smelled divine, wouldn’t mind go back for a sit down. I just got mine to go. And with them filling orders like crazy you are sure to get fresh made to order.

There is always a smiley face there to greet me every time I go there!

I haven’t written a Unilocal review for a while but I felt this one deserved it. I had a meeting with a company about 15 minutes away from Dandy and needed a quick bite and possibly some coffee. Since there were no Dunkin Donuts within 40 miles, I decided to check out Dandy, having never even heard of it before. The inside is so cool, with different memorabilia and other things that don’t make you feel like you’re in a coffee shop.
It has a simple menu of food and drinks but the flavor and taste totally makes up for it. Got a turkey sandwich with cheese and other things on it and it was amazing! Also got their coffee which was outstanding. They had about 8 different flavors to choose from and I picked their French Roast since it was a little bit stronger. Some of the best coffee I’ve ever had! What’s even better is they give you 4 free mini donuts at the end of your stay and you also get free refills on the coffee. All that for $ 6. What a deal! I wish they had other locations because this place truly is a gem.
Idk if/​when I’ll be back in that area, especially since it is an hr and a half away from where I live and work, but if I’m anywhere near it, say within a 10 – 20 mile radius, I have to make it a point to stop in to Dandy Donuts. What an amazing hidden little gem!

I was taking a short break from work and was in total shock when my GPS said no Dunkin Donuts for 37 miles!!! Glimpsing a donut sign on a strip mall marquee we figure why not? A friendly greeting at the door brought me down from the anxiety panic of no coffee and donuts for 37 miles.
What a cute cozy relaxing place! Sit and take 10 minutes to take it all in why not? Fresh out of the deep fry came the «hot now» rarely experienced by less fortunate seekers of donut and coffee fare.
Bottom line the family run shop is a gem and well worth your business. Warm donuts and smiles await!

Their donuts may be awesome but I don’t understand the hours. If you can get out for lunch at noon or so that’s terrific but if you take a late lunch, say 1 or 1:30, then go somewhere else. Went in before their kitchen closed and they were out of menu items. Not sure why they even have a lunch menu.

This place was very welcoming when I stopped in. They were quick to give me several samples of the differing donuts and they were fantastic. Definitely a mom and pop shop to support! I will be back!

This has been my regular lunch spot, or at least I try to get there as much as I can. Due to the limited business hours (the kitchen closes at 1.30 PM), I don’t always make it on time. But when and if I do, I enjoy their donuts and their extremely addictive asian chicken salad. So much so that I’ve tried replicating it at home, but to no avail.

This place is great! I came for breakfast and had the oatmeal bar. Fresh oatmeal made to order, and served hot. Then you get to use the oatmeal topping bar for toppings. They also give you fresh mini donuts to try. The atmosphere is great and the service outstanding! You can tell the owners enjoy what they do. I am in town on business and sad I didn’t find this sooner. I will come back for lunch!

This place is great. Excellent customer service, delicious breakfast sandwiches and tasty donuts. They have a decent selection of coffee and offer you flavored syrups at no charge as well.
I felt very limited with breakfast before, having to go to McDonald’s and such, but I now feel so much better about getting breakfast here.
It’s worth noting that these are not your average donuts; these donuts are tiny and only come in a couple variations, but I’m just fine with that.
Try the Tuscan sandwich. So good. The Grand Dandy is pretty awesome as well.
Wish they were open on Sundays.

So my Dandy Donuts review with 3 stars feels similar to my Lucha Cantina review of 3 stars. You still need to go here and check it out because I am on the fence about whether it should have 4 stars or not.
So I have a lot of people in my house and I knew that those little donuts would go quick– and they did! We bought SIX DOZEN to feed every one, they were gone damn quick and kids were upset with each other over who ate more than their fair share. They are good! You need to try these fresh little donuts but they are best warm so eat them there unless you live close.
3 stars because it is quite expensive, the donuts are tiny, and there is very little choice. Just regular, powder sugar and cinnamon-​sugar. Cinnamon was my favorite. Really tasty– but like Sugar Jones I see this as a once in a while treat for the fam.
We want to go back and try the Grilled Cheese, which did sound great.
This a great little place and you need to try it too if you live in Rockford. At least once!

There’s always been something admirable (to me, anyway) about a business that finds a specialty, gets very good at it, and doesn’t get distracted. The NFL doesn’t do baseball, MLB doesn’t do hockey, and the NHL doesn’t do donuts.
Dandy Donuts doesn’t do football, baseball or hockey, the store does donuts, only one kind, and they do they them very, very well. The donuts are small and made fresh, while you watch, in a nifty little donut machine that looks like it came out of a Johnny Depp movie.
Cinnamon, sugar, or powdered. That’s it — one donut, three choices of finish.
Whatever finish you choose, your donuts will be fresh, and so hot, you’ll have to take a sip of their good coffee to cool down your tongue.
If you’re expecting a place with half a bazillion varieties of donuts that are actually all the same, you’re in the wrong place. If you’re looking for the freshest and most delicious donuts you have ever had, this IS the place!

I am an out of towner and really like the vibe if this place. Oatmeal bar, fresh mini donuts and all the rest.

Obviously the reason everyone comes here is the donuts, and they are fantastic. The cinnamon and sugar are the traditional and are so warm and made fresh to order. The powdered sugar ones are great as well, as the sugar gets kind of soft and melted after being on the hot donut. I haven’t tried the dipping sauces (I think they have chocolate and caramel but I’ve heard good things!). I’ve gone here for lunch as well and they have some really tasty soup options and make a really good Asian chicken salad. The prices are relatively affordable as well, and I can usually have breakfast or lunch for under $ 10.
The customer service, though, is what brings me back time after time. The same guy (I think he’s the owner) is usually at the register and he is so friendly and helpful. I’ve been here many times now but the first couple times, I had a lot of questions and he didn’t mind answering them at all. This is a pretty small place so it can be a bit crowded at times, but I don’t mind coming here because the service is excellent! Will continue to go back for more!

Excellent soup and sandwich. The donuts are super yummy and melt in your mouth. The owners are attentive and friendly. Definitely will be returning and recommending to all my friends.

On any other day, I might find that statement offensive… but not today… no, siree. Because today, as a woman, I’m proud to stand within an angel’s breath of the comparison to Rockford’s Dandy Donuts, home of the teeniest, tiniest, moistest holes I’ve ever put in my gaping maw.
I made it a point to stop here on my ‘layover’ from the Chicago ‘burbs to Madison, Wisco after one reviewer likened these itty bitty bites to the infamous brioche doughnuts at Mindy’s Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park… of which I can no longer afford because I am a scrub. Do they compare? Most def! BUT on a teeny tiny mini Mindy’s scale, of course.
I don’t believe there’s any brioche involved in these mean morsels, but they’re fried for much less time than regular doughnuts so they aren’t nearly as fatty and they’re cooked in soy oil WHILE.YOU.WAIT, that’s right– they’re Johnny-​on-​the-​spot soaked, flipped, dried, and sprinkled in whichever ‘topping’ you’d like. Plain –which surprisingly ended up being my favorite, even after I initially rejected the idea of ordering plain jane doughnuts-​, cinnamon (whoa, momma. get down on these) and powdered sugar… which are about as fantastic as your favorite star doing full frontal in a flick. You’re gonna want to slow it down, and savor the moment for as long as you can. Just don’t get pulled over while you’re stuffing your face these powdery pieces. Not only will you look like you’ve been on a major coca-​cola binge, but I’m pretty sure there’s a smidge of crack baked into these buns. How could there NOT be? I mean, between 2 people who had just eaten a full breakfast not even 15 minutes earlier and were on their way to farmer’s market, how is it possible that we could have finished off 2 dozen of these tiny treats before we’d even made it across state lines? Ooh, and we did it with 2 different (chocolate and caramel) dipping sauces! We totally got hooked up with a fix, right?
Alright, alright– enough with the drug references… even though I was hoping to do a ‘hole’ sex, drugs and doughnuts things with this review… ‘cept I’m not nearly as versed in drug slang as a 20-​something should be and it’s getting really tedious having to google terms to inch through this story. Aaanyway, in addiction (hehe, get in?) to these handy dandy doughnuts, Double D’s cooks up a mean vanilla chai tea latte (extra spiced chai in the winter) and also offers about a ½ dozen different made from scratch soups daily as well as an granola bar for your yogurt or oatmeal. DIY has never been more delicious!
So, how do I like D’s ‘nuts? Well, I like ‘em hot and plopped in my mouth by the dozen.

Made to order mini doughnuts (very very fast). We now drive out of our way to come here for the doughnuts.
First time we ordered 3 dozen (cinnamon and sugar) then ordered another 2 dozen. Second time 3 dozen. Kids were fascinated by the doughnut making process (right up in front). Had the coffee it was just «ok», but thats not why I come.

Hands down the best doughnuts I’ve ever had! The people there were super nice and let you have a few to hook you in!
