1st visit… definitely not my last. Excellent coffee. Bacon-egg-cheese bagel beyond reproach. Could not have asked for friendlier service. Awesome and interesting store.

I was going to start a diet today. But I ran across this place and had to get a pumpkin spice latte, and some homemade cookies. Everything here looks incredible. I could easily gain a few pounds eating all of the deliciously made goodies. Today. I love coming to places like this. Even though things can get expensive, it’s a great experience. The latte tastes great too. I highly recommend.

This place is very quaint and like stepping into the mythical Mayberry in the simpler 1950s. Lots of coffees, cheeses, fudge, plus just a great old fashioned atmosphere. I’ve been here for coffee a few times, but today I finally tried their famous bagel wrapped hot dog. I think I saw them microwaving it, which isn’t my preferred way to heat food because of the well-known tendency to turn things into a styrofoam consistency. In this case, it wasn’t heated enough, but I didn’t complain because I’d rather have lukewarm than styrofoam. I like the coffee at Starbucks better, but I’m quite the coffee snob, but I really thought the bagel dog was tasty, plus this place has a super polite staff and the overall experience is unique.

A very charming atmosphere. Great service and delicious breakfast bagels! Coffee was delicious and the price was shockingly cheap. Getting this exact same breakfast would have cost me twice the price in the city. I did have some suggestions. They could streamline service by having signature sandwiches vs listing their many many ingredients. It surprisingly makes things easier for the customer too. Then having a person who runs the coffee grinder station for their delicious beans during peek hours would reduce their line by half. Also if they dialed in their food offerings to what sells the most it could streamline their counter time as well as reduce waste. Have ten signature sandwiches with your amazing ingredients. 5 breakfast, 5 lunch. And let those hard working servers accept tips! They deserve them. You are custom making each item and order. That is not only timely but difficult. This deserves tips. I respect the«no tips necessary just come back», but your product is impeccable and your service is kind. That is reason enough to come back. Take the perk. I’m sure your service staff would appreciate splitting them at the end of a demanding shift. Overall I enjoyed this charming place.

Love Herman’s Boy. Its a quirky store filled with all sorts of delicious smells that insist on getting in your belly STAT. We love their wide variety of in house roasted coffee our favorites being the Cherie Inn blend and my newest favorite New Orleans blend with added chicory. YUM! If you can’t wait to enjoy the coffee until you get home they always have a selection of freshly brewed and specialty coffees available. Their food is amazing, bagel dogs, smoked meats and homemade desserts and candies. I love getting their pulled pork on an everything bagel with a slice of provolone, my mouth waters just thinking about it. They are the grilling experts and dedicate an entire room to the fine art of BBQ. Their staff is friendly and quick to offer help or advice. Herman’s Boy is a terrific example of family owned entrepreneurship at it’s finest.

Best Pecan Rolls and Bagels in West Michigan. They roast coffee to perfection and been doing it for nearly a hundred years. The ribs are fantastic.

I can’t get enough of Herman’s Boy! I’ve been shopping with them since they were still the Melting Pot right downtown Rockford. There really aren’t enough good things to say about them! The smells, the quaint atmosphere, the delicious foods… Going to Herman’s Boy for a bagel sandwich is one of my favorite things for lunch! Lots of different options, but I almost always opt for the pumper ripple bagel which is marbled light rye and pumpernickel. When I lived in Illinois for awhile I had a group of people who would request bagels and jerky from Herman’s Boy if they knew I would be back in Rockford. My husband loves their jerky and we both love their sausage and bagels. As for complaints about outdated technology and lack of Wi-Fi, who really cares!!! It’s a great small-town place, quaint atmosphere, and they do accept credit cards. If that’s really your main focus on a business than you should just stick to Starbucks.

This place has a lot of character and some really cool items such as unique teas, coffees, and teas. BUT the breakfast sandwiches? Terrible. I got a Bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel. The kid made the whole thing in the microwave. It was, like most the food in this area, crap. Living in the Grand Rapids area for 18 months this place is a great representation of the food and people here. They have lived here their whole lives and have no clue what they are missing. Microwave an egg sandwich??? Ek!
Very nice place. Get there early as it can get crowded. Nice place to just browse or buy. Great coffee.

This place is great, and is about my favorite place in the world for food. if I can get it at Herman’s Boy, I don’t get it anywhere else. Their coffee puts Starbucks to shame for about 70% of the price. Their sandwiches are delicious and ridiculously cheap. I’ve only ever gotten a couple of things there that weren’t fantastic. I’m glad it’s kind of an unknown place, because I wouldn’t want them to get more crowded. Be warned, it is kind of intimidating at first. Their service system is kind of stupid(only one person can help you even if you want different things in different areas of the store) and there is often a mass of customers just standing around in a mob waiting for orders. If they aren’t busy, then they’re all in your face as soon as you walk in the door. The staff is always very friendly though. Like I said, kind of intimidating and confusing the first time, but it’s worth it. Absolutely in love with this place.

I have been visiting Herman’s Boy for the past 7 years, since moving to Rockford. Where do I start, this is one of my favorite places in West Michigan. It is an old renovated house that has been turned into a world of magical food creations. As soon as you walk in the door you are hit with the smells of fresh ground coffee, homemade cinnamon rolls, different types of cheeses, and perhaps a pork shoulder or brisket slow cooking on one of their Big Green Egg’s. Not to mention the smell of homemade fudge being made or candied pecans. Some of my favorite products include: Kenya AA coffee(outstanding smooth favor), White leaf peach tea, Herman’s Boy Pork Rub(this is the rub I use on the outside of my pork shoulder when smoking pulled pork), and the Big Green Egg. We bought one last year and it has been nothing short of outstanding. The educational support that you get from Herman’s Boy is tremendous. I’ve purchased several gift baskets for my team over of the years for Christmas gifts and they are always very well received. There really is so many wonderful things to look at and choose from that each time I go into the store it becomes a new adventure.

Herman’s Boy is FANTASTIC and I’m so glad that my aunt introduced me to this spot — a place that she has been visiting for years to buy freshly ground coffees. The shop has a lot going on, all very fun. Lots of kitchen and grilling gadgets in addition to their coffees, teas, and baked goods. There are lots of coffees to choose from and the staff grind to order. I got a pound of two varieties: Sugar Cookie and Michigan Cherry. I recommend both. While I was there, I also purchased their homemade Chai mix — YUM — and also a homemade BBQ sauce… tasty! They can also make drinks, so I left with a cup of hot chai, too, to enjoy on the car ride home. :-) If this place wasn’t such a jaunt from Kalamazoo, I would visit more often. However, it’s worth the field trip to stock up on coffee and other goodies. ^_^

There are countless reasons to come here for, these are my highlights. The incredible on site roasted coffee’s, I recommend the Italian Roast Sumatra for a real nice full dark flavor. All of them are great, atleast the ones that I have tried(about 8 varieties). The 10 year cheddar cheese is absolutely divine!!! It is one of the best things I have ever tasted in my life! Great tea selection and wonderful array of tea accessories as well. Until my mom passed away the Pecan Rolls were a staple on Christmas morning. Warm these guys up with some butter on top, now that’s some good stuff. There are plenty more reasons to stop here if your ever in Rockford. Find your reason to fall in love with Herman’s Boy.

Herman’s Boy is the awesomest place for tea and tea accoutrement you will ever find. Every time I come home to Michigan I stop in and stock up. Walking in to their store is like what I imagine walking into heaven would be like. It has the rich, deep smell of coffee as well as more subtle hints of tea and baked goods. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the overall vibe of the store is homey and welcoming. They have an amazing wall of loose leaf teas that I could spend hours looking at. It’s hard to nail down what my favorite tea I’ve gotten from them is, because they have all been fantastic. However, I think the Plum Berry White Tea is as good as it gets. I am an office manager and I make tea for all of the people in my office, and some favorites from them have been the Wild Cherry Black Tea, both the Raspberry and Blackberry Green Tea, and the Blueberry Rooibus. Considering the extremely high quality of their tea, it is very reasonably priced. They also have all sorts of kettles, tea pots, steepers, and travel mugs with steepers inside. If you are tea nut like me, you can find everything you’ve ever dreamed of. I can’t recommend this place enough. I live in Chicago, which has a lot of amazing places to buy tea, and they don’t even come close to this place. I firmly believe it is the best place in the world to buy tea from.
