Will never use this company again. First, I was charged for two diagnostic fees when followed by major work. I have never been to a mechanic nor has anyone I know ever been charged when you get the major service done following the diagnostic. Also if they were going to charge me it, it should have been included in the estimate. I was told $ 1600ish on the phone estimate and $ 1900 something when picked up my car. I did question at the time but the guy was not very responsive and more or less ignored me. I also followed up by calling and I was told management/​owner would call me back but I still have not heard from them even though I have called a couple times. This just shows that they don’t care about the customer. I will most likely never hear from them. This was going to be my back-​up mechanic as I had gotten one major service done prior to this one and I liked them but after this experience I will never take my car here again or recommend them to anyone. After reading the reviews I see I am not the only one they screwed over.
P.S their hourly labor rate is extremely high compared to other mechanics.

I take my car only to ROCKLIN AUTOMOTIVE. I will no longer go anywhere else in Rocklin.
Had problems with two other places. For example, one oil change at another shop had the mechanic using a power driver to screw in the oil pan bolt. Big oil leak. They stripped the threads. Cost me $ 500. ROCKLIN AUTOMOTIVE uses the old-​fashion finger, thumb, and wrench. Great waiting room. Bring a book, but I was in and out today in less than a hour. They are across from IHOP and a deli. Leave off your car and have breakfast or lunch. The staff is great. They also rescued me on short notice when the wipe blades failed and we were on a tight schedule to SF. Got me in right away.

I brought the used car we had just purchased from CarMax over here for an inspection to make sure CarMax didn’t miss anything. I was blown away with how thorough they were during their inspection, noting things like the registration is expired, headrest missing (we had taken it out to get our child’s car seat installed), and there is wax buildup on the black plastic trim. Chris, the service writer, is super friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Fixed my car, but in my opinion overcharged for parts. This paragraph part was already to much money, as I Called and compared to the dealer price for part. Asked if he felt good about charging me what he was charging and he said yes its what he has to do to run his business. Made a comparison of his business and Kentucky fried chicken. Price for part at dealership was $ 190,price this shop owner charged me $ 345! Total bill was $ 754 ! For a misfiring spark plug. Hes a excellent talker. Willing to convince you, you got good sevice, good deal!

Went to get a battery checked. After the initial $ 61 test, they said it was battery and it would be $ 149 for the battery plus $ 60 to install. I asked what type of battery and they couldn’t tell me yet. So over $ 270 for a new battery. I said I’d go to autozone and do it myself. They then spent a lot of time ragging auto zone. I recommend never using this place

Been going here for about a year of oil changes for both of our cars. My wife takes our cars in for our oil changes. She took my car in last week, and was told I needed a new serpentine belt. I looked at it when I got home, I looked very hard, and saw very itty bitty tiny hair line cracks. It took me a while to actually see them (with excellent vision). I decide to drive down to Rocklin Automotive the next day and ask. The mechanic took a look for about 30 seconds, looking, looking and then, «ah ha», yeah, see those TINY hair line cracks in a few places. I laughed underneath my breath, and said yeah I noticed those. He seemed upset and irritated that I questioned his ability to sell a work order that was not needed. He said, well, you got 6,000 miles at least. I know this! They will sell you anything that looks slightly worn.
When I changed my air filter the week prior to this most recent oil change, surprise, surprise, my air filter was very dirty. Why they didn’t mention this from my prior oil change? Two reasons, one, they didn’t check it, and two because it doesn’t involve work (labor) — just a markup on the air filter which makes no money. They did not check everything under the hood (which is a complete lie to what they offer as a service), and selling work that is not needed or more so not even close to being needed

Be warned!!! My son brought his car in to get his clutch checked. They claimed they spent 4 hours looking at the car to determine that the electrical fixes are questionable and will not spend any more time diagnosing unless we pay another 300+ dollars. they showed us the non-​standard automotive wiring that was used. It doesn’t take 4 hours to really see that when it is visible once you open the hood. Then, to top it off, they charged my son $ 157 to tell him he has bad wiring. they didn’t even look at his clutch. Wow, talk about feeling ripped off.

I have lost faith in this place. Seems lately there are always suggestion big dollar repairs. Went in and ask them to check out a small oil leak on 2002 truck. Wanted me to spend $ 150 on a steam clean, I said no. Then they said I need to replace the seal between the transmission and engine at a cost of over one thousand dollars. The leak turned out to be a loose oil filter.
Been going here for a long time, but will take my business somewhere else in the future.

Great place! I was having car trouble that needed immediate and extensive repair. They had the car fixed within a day which is more than I can say for most places. They were professional, informative and even gave me a discount! I will be taking my car here for any future repairs. Trustworthy and reliable!

I was charged over 800 dollars for a starter, which was 300 dollars over the cost of going to the dealership. I am sorry I went to this place as I enjoy my hard earned money. I am ok with paying a markup on product as I understand you need to make a living but I am not ok with being ripped off.
If you do end up going here and you feel like you have been taken advantage of please do what I did and file a compliant on the Bureau of Automative Repair website. They will help you in ensuring you pay a fair price for the work being done.

This place is good for tires, and oil changes, but not much else. I will say they have always been excellent at getting my tires and brakes on my car and getting on the road again.
At first I was pleased with the service, as I was receiving updates on what work was completed on my car. I was away in Florida and was trying to juggle multiple balls.
After getting back and driving I started having all sorts of problems. My steering column slowly started to move. When I called to have it taken in I was charged! They said I must have hit something. Simple deductive reasoning could have ruled that out.
Next the check engine light came on and I was told I would need a new catalytic converter (I took it to another place and no, that wasn’t the case).
Lastly, the motor mount busted! All within a short period of time! I paid $ 3,000 to have have my car overhauled only to have problem after problem after problem. I had never had so much problems with my car until this visit.

They always fix up my vehicles right!
I have been going here for a long time now and always get great service. Tom is outstanding, he will explain everything and lay out the options. The entire staff there is top notch.
I have had everything done here from a simple oil change to major repairs and they have never let me down. They have always stuck to the promised time for the repair and the price has never gone over the estimate or final quote.
The work is top quality, because my old cars are still rolling along and I haven’t had any multiple repairs for the same issue.
Car repairs are never the highlight of my day but they make it a lot easier.
I highly recommend this place.

I had a flat tire and I was right by their shop. I drove over and asked for help. I went inside and was not politely greeted by an older gentleman with silver hair. I told him I had a flat and he said I do not tires go to another shop, one of my guys can put some air in it. A mechanic came out and put air in it. He said it was leaking from the valve/​tpms. He said to go back inside and ask how much and he would fix it. I went back inside told the silver fox what his guy said and again he said go up the street I can’t help you.
His whole attitude was rude and condescending. It was as if I interrupted his entire day. Honestly, it absolutely felt that he acted this because of my being a lesbian. It sure as shit seemed to be the vibe he was giving off. Really in today’s society, and being out for almost 23 years, I have only really felt this two other times. Once in a furniture store and the other was a homeowner who would not rent to me. Would I ever patronize this place, no, just for the sheer way he delivered his words.

Had some alternator work done here. I ended up having problems with it about a month after having it installed. I went back to get it fixed again. I give them 2 stars because they did not charge me the second time. They are over priced compared to most places around the area.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the NBC link and it sent me to a page that no longer exists. Looking at the BAR newsletter from 2010 I did see a Sacramento area chain being punished, but I failed to see AAMCO, Pep Boys or AutoZone penalized for anything. If you have any specific information on these companies, you should have posted it instead of showing me a newsletter that shows smog service providers being written up. As a side note it is unclear to me how AutoZone could be penalized because all they do is loan you the device so you can read the code. Which is what I was asking for, nothing more.
I should have been more clear in my first post. What I was looking for was a reading of the code so I could tell what caused it. We both know that the code can be cleared and it will take 15 – 20 miles of operation for the drive monitors to be completely resynced allowing for a legit smog check. What I asked the counter clerk was «How much to read the check engine code?» My request was not for you to perform an elaborate complete system check, it was to read the code. This procedure takes less than a minute, two at the most, and will assist in discovering what triggered the error which is pretty easy for a person who has a familiarity with the sensors of an engine. It takes no time and fosters a feeling of going above and beyond as it relates to customer service. Something exactly the opposite of the feeling I got by your counter clerks answer. «That is $ 185, sir»
And in fairness, it can’t be considered bait and switch. It says right up front «you are about to get the telephone pole treatment» and it allows me to turn around and walk out.
Which is what I did.
Had he kept his clever comedy routine practice to himself by not delivering his «you get what you pay for» quip and instead keeping his smart mouth shut, I would never had given it a second thought.

My brother took his Mazda here as he was having starter problems. They informed him he needed a new starter and to return in 2 days for repair. It took them all day to repair his car and when he got there the starter still had problems. They then told him they thought it was a recall item and gave him a print out of what they found online. They informed him the starter still neeed to be repaired though and handed him a bill for $ 400.
They specialize in tires, nothing else.

IMPOLITE!!! DAY LIGHT ROBBERY! Their service is very expensive personally. I send in my A4 Audi today to change my front brakes. Spent a total of $ 750 FOR BRAKES!!! That is definitely over-​priced. A big percentage of $ 750 went to labor cost. One of the service representatives told me over the phone that I have to come collect my car today although it was inconvenient for me. He offered to give me some discount but once I got to my car and took a look at the receipt, NO DISCOUNT WAS GIVEN. First and last time there and definitely telling my friends not to go there :)

Honest, Reliable, straight shooters who tell you with detail about what is going on. Follow the book. They go above and beyond to make sure you are making the right decision for your car and are NOT pressure people.
Ever go to a place and they say you have a huge laundry list of things to do and never prove it to you they «show you» what is wrong? Well who the heck knows what they are showing you. If you knew what you were looking at more than likely you’d go and fix it yourself!!!
These guys take the time to educate me, show me the manual, show me what the other similar model and year car issues are to validate that the problem I see is a legitimate problem, not something made up.
I recommend them to my husband who is a car dude with no time to fix cars. I recommend them to my clients, family, etc.
