Great service, excellent staff and the Gnocchi was the best EVER!

The best authentic Italian food around! The owner couldn’t be nicer and more appreciative of his customers. He really makes you feel at home and again, the food is OUTSTANDING! You must come by to the small, quaint, delicious establishment.

Fresh food, made from scratch. Pleasantly surprised to find Risotto with real saffron prepared just right. Not cheap, but a great value. Family friendly atmosphere. Dinner time seating was well attended but not completely full. Service was friendly. I’ll be back for sure!

I have been here a few times over the past two years. Last night we had a party of nine and came in early. They were able to take care of us with good service. The food however is average. The Caesar salad was fresh but lacked a good anchovy garlicky flavor and was unusually sweet. Those who had the lasagna enjoyed it as well as the spaghetti and meat balls. I had the cannelloni and was disappointed. The meat sauce just wasn’t flavorful and way too much cheese. The seafood risotto was good. In summary this is a good place to go for very average Italian food and is well suited for families with children. I might come back to try the pizza. The service is great; but they need to work on their Italian preparations to get me to come back.

We decided to try this place because of the reviews and because we’ve never been here before. It was a very light lunch crowd, and we were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. It’s seat yourself, so we did. The waiter/bartender was polite and friendly, but appeared to spend too much time chit-chatting with a customer at the bar while I was trying to make eye contact so he could take our orders. I gauge the quality of an Italian restaurant by the quality of one thing… a staple from growing up in NY — the meatball. I’m not trying to see how fancy they are or how elegant the presentation is; I’m going solely off taste. So I ordered the meatball appetizer and as far as that goes, the meatball was just okay. It was a bit too dense and one-dimensional as far as taste. I didn’t see any evidence of any bread crumbs or pork or seasoning. The sauce was pretty good, not bitter at all but neither did it stand out as one of the best I’ve had. We ordered the bruschetta, because the photos on Unilocal made it look impressively large. Well, they must’ve used the same lens realtors use when taking photos because it isn’t a large portion at all. It fits on a salad plate, but I really enjoyed the taste. My wife thought it was a bit too sweet, and I could see her point, but I enjoyed the sweetness. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and the waiter was honest when he said it was 6″ long. It was the smallest chicken parm I’ve ever been served, but I was fine with the size(though admittedly surprised) because it came with a salad and we’d already had appetizers. The chicken parm tasted fine and had the right amount of sauce and cheese so it wasn’t too messy or too dry. The chicken was tender and the bread was a bit crispy on the outside but moist on the inside. I liked it. It had a bit of sweetness to the sauce that isn’t traditional, but it tasted good and I’m not that much of a stickler as to think that to be a drawback. My wife said she didn’t see any reason to return and would prefer going to The Taste of Tuscany, but if I had friends who wanted to come to Via Roma I wouldn’t object. The prices seemed a bit high for what was served, but that seems to be par for the course nowadays. So overall, it was good but not great. I might want to try the pizza or the shrimp dishes others have seemed to really like, but most likely I’ll forget how I felt about this place and won’t remember where it is! It sucks to get old, haha.

The food is good and service was quick. I had the shrimp risotto, my husband had a pizza, and my son had pasta with marinara. Everything was delicious. The owner shook our hands and greeted us warmly when we walked in. Our server was attentive and our water glasses always filled. Enjoyed coming here and will definitely be back. We came on a weeknight and there were about 3 other tables filled so not too crowded but heard weekends are crazy.

Yum! One of the few non-chain restaurants in Rocklin which automatically makes it wonderful and the food is authentically Italian and delicious. We have been many times and service is always great. The owner is usually there(very friendly) and helping the waiters as the place gets very busy. My family and I have tried many things on the menu — linguine scampi, spaghetti and meatballs, risotto, margherita pizza and several different specials and everything is amazing. Definitely make a reservation as the restaurant is on the smaller side and it’s typically pretty busy. So glad that this family gem of a restaurant is in Rocklin!

I love enjoying the outstanding food in their quaint dining room. When you walk in, you are greeted instantly and they treat you very well from start to finish. My water never goes empty, and the service is quick. In a day when customer service is lacking, Via Roma is excelling. I can not say enough great things about the level of service I have received here. Whenever it’s time for dinner out, my first thought is always Via Roma. Thank you Via Roma for your continuous quality of food and service. You are like no other. I can not wait to enjoy your restaurant for years to come.

This review is strictly on customer service. I made reservations tonight(Friday night) for my boyfriend’s birthday. We showed up and were completely ignored for 10 minutes while waiters walked by and asked us to move as they needed to toss menus on the table behind us three times without acknowledging that we were waiting to be seated. Also, there were about three tables open. After about 8 minutes a couple came in behind us that were immediately greeted and told to go sit in their«regular spot». Apparently you needed to be regulars here to be treated with even a mediocre level of customer service. Needless to say, we left and will not be back. Side note: we drove 35 minutes out of our way to go to Visconti’s in Folsom where we always have exceptional customer service, food, wine, etc. The owner will even come and thank you for your business at the end of your meal. :)

We’ve lived in the Rocklin/Roseville area for a few years now, having moved from Sacramento. We were sad because we couldn’t find a good Italian restaurant in the area. But while eating at our favorite funky pizza place in Sac, Roma 2 Pizza on Folsom Blvd, we were informed that the son of the owner had opened a place in Rocklin. Hallelujah. We were excited to try it, and are so glad we did. The food, from the bread and salad(and great wine list – Ca’ Momi wine!) to the fresh pasta, finishing with homemade tiramisu, was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and the ambience was nice. Can’t wait to go back and try more food, especially the arancini :) Oh, and they will start being open again on Sundays in August. More days to eat!

Ambience-Small and intimate restaurant. Charming décor. Make reservations during weekend as they fill up quickly! Service– incredible! The gentlemen shook our hand and was very accommodating to my husband and our two toddlers! The waiter was attentive without being overbearing and they were quick to refill drinks and our bread basket! Food– The complimentary focaccia and olive oil with balsamic is a great start to the meal. It is house made and you can taste it! I LOVE gnocchi and came her specifically for it! First let me say the presentation and flavor profile was on point! My only issue was the mushroom/pancetta gnocchi was not pan seared it was kind of just sitting there almost like it was boiled in the butter? Not crispy all. I took the leftovers home and pan seared them that night and wow. Now THAT was perfection! It just needed to be cooked to my liking. Next time I come I will ask them to make sure they are truly seared! We also ordered the Margherita pizza and it was delicious! Sweet fresh tomatoes with basil garlic and mozzarella. The crust was so good and I honestly could’ve devoured the entire thing! They have a great wine list as well! I will definitely return as this is the most authentic Italian in the Rosevillle/Rocklin area!

My family and I were in Rocklin for California History day… Good thing, because otherwise we would have missed this gym of a restaurant. We were there for lunch, and my teenage daughter and my wife loved our time at Via Roma. Being justly proud of our Italian cooking and heritage, we hold Italian restaurants to a very high standard. Via Roma met and then exceeded our expectations. Their sauce is complex but not overly complicated, with fresh ingredients obvious. Their bread, too, was wonderful and fresh, with unique flavor that was simple and inspired. But the meatball was the big prize. Home made sausage, red wine and fennel and other fresh flavors made this our favorite meatball… anywhere! Can not recommend this place enough, and look forward to out next detour off of the 80 to visit Via Roma.

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurant. They have the best Bruschetta I’ve ever tasted here. The combination of basil, cheese and tomato was perfect. For lunch, my favorite is Cannelonni a la Veneziani. It tastes light with really amazing flavor. Just the perfect blend of sauce, spices and texture. My lunch came with either salad or soup. Great customer service and food came in quickly.

Nice little Italian restaurant in the Rocklin area. Food tasted great, although some of the portions seemed a little out of whack for the price. Friend’s risotto for nearly 20 bucks seemed like a lunch portion, however my veggie pizza was divine for 14. Go figure. It’s a small restaurant and rather loud — not really a date place. Service was excellent, wine list has promise, and if you are here with a bunch of friends like I was — you are in for some good Italian food on a casual night out.

Via Roma has been on the radar for some time. Yesterday on a whim for a spontaneous meal with my folks turned out to be the day. We showed up at 4:30 with no reservations, we we’re lucky to get a table. Henry made us feel like V.I.P’s with a long standing reservation just the same. He is a excellent host as is the entire staff. We ordered the special wild arugula salad with a small pepperoni pizza for the table then to our entrées. Gnocchi, Fruti di Mare pasta, spaghetti, Prawn and diver scallop risotto — all of it was superb!

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Service is fast. Our mouths were watering just watching everyone’s order come out. I ordered the linguine shrimp and Dennis ordered the shrimp and scallops risotto. We loved both our dinners. I had so many large shrimps at least 9 that I counted for sure but I could have missed one! I had the house red wine and Dennis had a Stella. The red was excellent. I want to come back to order the pizza and some other dishes. I wish I had room for dessert because the tiramisu and the sorbet was very tempting!!!
