Steak ‘n Shake

I like steak n’ shake overall but this location has poor service poor management and often gets orders wrong not seeming to care. Too many bad experiences to list one. Other friends have had the same problem as well

First time here, heard the food was amazing here… First it took them about 5 minutes just to «seat» us (even though this is a burger joint). Our drinks were delivered wrong and those took at least 10 – 15 mins to come out correctly, at this point we were more than ready to order. The waitress took our order kindly but that’s when things went downhill; We sat there for a whopping hour on our food! Half of our meals tasted like it was sitting out for an hour and it was very unpleasant… we repeatedly asked for the manager and after several negotiations, we walked away with our meals comped due to the horrendous amount of time it took. I will not be venturing to the Rockwall, TX steak n’ shake ever again.

Horrible service. Waited to be sat ten minutes and waited another ten at the table before leaving. No one noticed.

Worst service ever. Waited an hour for mediocre food. Waitress didn’t refill drinks, didn’t bring silverware, and forgot parts of our food order. Waitresses all hanging out by the drink fountain instead of checking on customers.

Great fries and good burgers but there are several high school students working here that spend a lot of time staring, gossiping and quite obviously making fun of some of the teens that come in to eat with their families. Very unprofessional and rude !!

Worst service ever, not to mention half of time our waitress disappeared and we saw her by the drink fountain on her own personal phone. Our food was cold and took 45 min to come out! Worst place to eat!

This could be the worst service at any restaurant ever. Why? Because nobody cares. Understaffed, poor management, bad hires, low pay, poor working conditions… all of the above. who knows, but other places figure it out.
There were at least 5 waitresses last time we went…3 spend at least 5 minutes at the window entering order and the other 2 spend 5 – 10 minutes and the drink station. After that they might come over and take your order, maybe not. The food was OK, but it would be better to order at the drive through, wait, and then come inside and eat it. That would take 10 minutes instead of 30 – 40 minutes to get a hamburger and grilled cheese.
After that, it took a wait of 5 minutes just pay and get out of there because they were bussing tables with nobody waiting in line for a table.

Excellent food, awful service all around.
I love Steak N Shake; I grew up on it, which is why it pains me to give such a bad review to one of my favorite places.
First star goes to price. 6 of us ate full meals with drinks and shakes for under 60 bucks. That’s a deal.
Second star goes the food. All the steakburgers were great, as usual. The cheese fries, chili, and shakes were on point!
Next 3 stars are lost on service and cleanliness. Our server, Katelyn, was either very new or just not cut out for waiting tables. Being a server requires attention and a sense of urgency — both were seriously lacking. I’d never seen someone have so much trouble with drink orders. 2 waters, 2 Cokes, and a Dr. Pepper. Simple enough, right? I think she was writing the entire word down (W… A… T… E… R…) with the amount of time she spent on her note pad. When she brought the drinks, she had to ask who had which. The entire meal went that way. She had no clue who ordered which meal and quizzed the table as she brought them out. We didn’t have silverware when we needed it. I ordered chili and asked that it come out prior to the meal. I would have been happy if it arrived at all, but I had to ask for it a second time. The server forgot. When she brought anything to the table, she bolted like she had somewhere else to be! We had to flag her down multiple times after she brought something and immediately left: spoon for the chili, refills of drinks, etc. The same kind of delay with the drinks occurred with the shakes. Server had no clue who ordered which, they took forever, and when they finally got there, the cups were sticky and covered in milkshake on the outside. Lastly, there were enough customers there today generating enough profit at lunch time to pay a plumber to fix the sink in the men’s room. When you own or operate a restaurant, you call a plumber the instant you have a problem. There’s just no excuse for having out-​of-​order signs in the bathroom for more than a day. The sign appears to have been there for weeks.
UPDATE! I almost forgot the wonderful experience we had with the cashier. If the servers are told to bring one long check to a table of 6, the cashiers should have no trouble at all splitting the checks. This is always how we’ve handled checks at SNS for my entire life, but today the cashier was dumbfounded. The receipts even have «seats» so you can say, «I need to pay for seats 3 and 5» to make it easier. This just further confused her and caused mayhem on the way out. Think of it as the cherry on top of the mediocre shake.

Never again.
The place was packed at 2pm on a weekday. Foolish me, I thought they were actually busy. Nope, it was just a mess of bad service. It took 70 min to get our food and pay, so I’d say the style of food is fast, but the service is far from it.
It took a few minutes for the manager to bus empty tables and seat us. It took a few more minutes to place our order with the waiter (burgers, fries, shakes). And then we waited. And waited. And listened to a gazillion kids singing, screaming, and whining.
Eventually, our lacy thin and crispy burgers showed up with their greasy shoestring fries. No shakes. We finally found the waiter to ask about our shakes. He went to check on them and gave us some explanation about a back-​up. By the time we were finished eating, he came back with one of the two shakes, explaining that there really wasn’t a back up – he’d just forgotten to put in an order for them. The chocolate shake tasted like a coffee shake. Yuck. It wasn’t worth the effort to get the second shake (and it wasn’t on our bill). Escape was more important.

Yeah, 4 stars is a lot for fast food, but really this is for their service, not the meal.
Steak & Shake is one step up from fast food only because you are seated, and get a waitress. Otherwise prices & food are the same as BK or Culver’s.
Their fries are terrific if you like the thin crispy sort (like McDs frex). I usually prefer ranch fries, or crinkle-​cut, but a change of pace is good too.
I ordered a diet coke & a $ 5.49 jalapeño crunch burger w/​fries. Next followed a comedy of errors, all in my favor.
First they brought a chicken sandwich instead of the burger. It was still jalapeño crunch — just the wrong meat. While I like most ways of serving bird, i am bitterly opposed to chicken sandwiches. The staff brought a new, hot burger while I munched on the fries. But when the burger came, it was with an all-​new set of fries! I couldn’t even finish them!
Waitress asked if I wanted a refill on my soda. I said no but lo and behold another soda appeared anyway (they have free refills — i just wasn’t that thirsty).
Then when i went to pay, the manager took my drink’s tab (a princely $ 1.79) off for the «trouble» I’d had?!
In summary really good service, and food at the upper end of the fast food spectrum give it the 4 stars. I will say i have never liked their breakfasts. But with Waffle House & IHOP next door, who cares.

well it is Steak and Shake, I do like the sliders know offered on the menu. My chili was barely warm not cold enough to send back. I do like the idea of buying the sliders as an individual order for us on a limited appetite these are great with some frisco sauce on the side.
