The food is okay, but there are a lot of drinks to choose from(my favorite is the pear cider). The food service is slow(especially with a large group) but the staff is friendly.

They are completely full of themselves. There going for casual but elegant for the sole purpose of jacking up prices. You get average to sub par food, with a fancy description at exorbitant prices.

Upon walking in and asking for a table for two we were led into a completely empty dining room. There were two dirty tables and we were told we could sit wherever we wanted. We chose a table and ordered our cocktails. Our waitress came back without our drinks to take our order. We ordered our food and proceeded to wait. It took ten minutes before we were brought water and bread and nearly twenty minutes before our drinks arrived. After 40 minutes of waiting and no sign of our waitress or any food we left money to cover our drinks and got up and walked to the door. Our waitress came running to the door and said«If your leaving you need to pay for your drinks» I informed her that we left more than enough money on the table as we were unable to find her. Her response was«Fine, as long as you paid» then turned around and walked away. I have heard they offer a good taproom with many choices for beer, so if that is what your looking for I assume you may be pleased. I was there for dinner and after being ignored and then treated so rudely. I will never go back

I am basing my review on a fruit & cheese platter I had while attending a Paint Nite function. I am also basing my review on the service I got here. The fruit & cheese platter was excellent. It has cherries, fresh strawberries, grapes and nectarine(the waitress said mango but it was really nectarine slices) The cheeses were your basic cheeses, one smoked and an interesting mango/ginger cheese. It came with some nice water crackers and it was yummy. I only wish there were more. $ 7.95 was pretty pricey for the amount of food I got but it was satisfying and the most healthy option for the Paint Nite event. I would go back if the rest of the food was as fresh. The service was excellent. I wish I had gotten my waitresses name. She was awesome. I tipped her $ 5.00 on a $ 7.95 meal. So, I’m giving DEKS four stars based on this one experience.

This place has a huge selection of beer! So if you are a beer lover this place is for you. I also love that the owners are always around and you are treated as part of the family. I do not like the décor, but I can understand it… it kind of goes with the place. You get a lot of food for your money — so be ready to carry out a doggy bag with you.

I went to DEKS with my 8 year old daughter to use a groupon I had purchased. After reading so many negative reviews I was skeptical, but, I figured we were going for burgers(which hopefully wouldn’t turn into a mistake). First — the server Jen we had wonderful, she was friendly, accommodating, and really sweet to my daughter. Second — the food came out quickly, was hot and satisfying. We ordered typical pub food, boneless wings and fried artichoke for appetizer, two cheeseburgers. We were so full we wrapped up the cake for dessert. Third — a very nice experience and I am looking forward to trying something off the regular menu at my next visit.

I have eaten at DEKS several times and would gladly eat there again. I am always impressed by their beer selection, particularly the tap beers they carry. It usually takes me longer to decide on what I’m going to drink than what I’m going to eat. I have ordered several specials and absolutely love their Oktoberfest specials. The sauerbraten and the stuffed cabbage are two meals that stood out. The Oktoberfest specials are usually accompanied by some great sides, including red cabbage and spaetzel. I don’t frequent here too often, as it appears to cater to more of a drinking crowd instead of a foodie crowd. The dining room is cute, but in earshot of the bar — which can get quite crowded and loud. Just not my thing anymore. Think of it as a little, local dive bar that serves pretty good food.

Went there once. The food was great, best Berger ever. Tried it again for dinner and we waited 40 minutes for apps. Food came out for some people at the table and not others. Big disappointment. Beer and burgers, okay anything else be ready to wait.

Was there about a month ago, 8:30PM on a Sunday. I guess that was too late. There was one table in dining room and us at a table in bar area. Server, and I don’t know why, seemed overwhelmed and very busy. She would not make it in a chain pub type place. Had chicken sandwich which was very good, had poppers for appetizers and asked for salsa. They had no salsa in the place and sounded as if they don’t carry it. How can that be? Hesitate to give it two stars… Hope the owners read these reviews and wake up.

«American Fare.» If by that one is referring to the food that gives Americans their increasing reputation as a slovenly, obese nation that doesn’t know when to stop drinking, this is place befitting the name. An emporium for those seeking a lot of beer, with food as an afterthought. I am a proud American, not interested in assuming the appearance or attitude of the aforementioned. And I am not interested in returning here. I am in the food business and am an advanced home brewer. The beer selection is a good one here. However, alcohol dulls the senses. If you are planing on dining in this place, I suggest having a few pints of their higher-alcohol selections. You’ll need it to kill the taste of the poor quality food, slow service, and comparatively high prices. But hopefully, you’ll remember in the morning. The food selection does not consider the fact that some prefer more than a slab of animal carcass on the plate with a soggy, frozen veg sobbing next to it. check out the pictures of the«food». Looks like a fortune-teller needed entrails for a prediction. Disgusting. OK, OK, so you don’t care about food. Fine, because I don’t care to write any more about their food, other than this: it’s of low-to-poor quality, ineptly prepared, and served with a bricklayer’s sense of aesthetics. You came for the beer. Stay in the bar. Do not go to a table, where the wait staff will waste you evening doing the back-and-forth from the bar, with wonderful news each time: «Sorry, that one’s on the menu by mistake;» «Don’t remember the last time we had that one;» «We have that, but it’s only served in a mug, and it has to be filled. No half-sizes,» etc. etc. ad nauseum. Maybe the nausea is from drinking too much? Nope. Comes with the meal. Yes, this is a place to get a good beer. But in my opinion, good beer goes with and needs good food. So eat elsewhere, and have a few beers here. They should wall off the restaurant portion of the place, as it’s usually empty… and for good reason. Hey, they could get that bricklayer-cum-chef to do it! This is the sad example of a bar trying to become more than a beer joint. It’s a bar. and a beer joint. That’s it.

Outstanding beer menu and they had Founders Breakfast Stout on tap. This is a world class beer. Nice to tap it. Place was very quiet for a Saturday, nice ambience. My marianted steak was just OK. Would not get steak again there. Wife’s Honeyed Walnut Chicken was outstanding and the sauteed brussel sprouts were superb. Service was OK but not memorable. Would have given 4 stars if steak was better.

I have been going to Deks since 2005 and I am one of the three who assisted in turning the place from another mindless«Bud bar» into a pioneer for craft beer on LI. Dek’s has been a great venue in the past for hosting beer paired dinners, hanging out with friends, and more recently, launching the local brewery known as RPAB. I have eaten there on many occasions, both in fine dining and in casual fare. I found Dek’s kitchen to be exceptionally versatile in its range and particularly aware of the nuances of Cajun and Oktoberfest foods. While I have heard and read of the service being slow at Dek’s, I never experienced it that way and I have found most of the staff ready, willing, and able. When I go to Dek’s, I am there for beer and friends as it has played a gracious host for my activities there in every season.

I have to agree with many of the other reviewers. Service is terrible. Now that we have that out of the way, the overall quality of everything except the beer has gone steadily downhill. Tonight, I dined there with my family. We were given a «special» menu along with the regular one. We were then advised that none of the appetizers on the special menu were available, and they were out of two of the entrees. We’re talking 6pm on a Tuesday night. The waitress was new and was responsible for the main dining room as well as the bar. It took an unusually long time for her to take our order. On her suggestion, I ordered a lobster and chicken entrée with mashed potatoes and vegetable. Fifteen minutes later she returns with a menu, advising that they are also out of the dish I ordered. They were out of the next item I ordered. I finally settled on broiled flounder with garlic and herbs, mashed potatoes and vegetable. Ten more minutes pass and she again returns to advise us they are out of mashed potatoes. So I chose a baked potato. Forty minutes later our food finally arrives. Broccoli was a strange greenish-yellow and tasted terrible. The flounder was completely devoid of any flavor. I’ve had better at Friendly’s, Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Fridays. But here the entrees were $ 25+ as opposed to $ 10 for a similar dish at Fridays. I cut into the potato to find it black and rotten inside. This grossed both me and my son out to the point of losing our appetites. Our water glasses went unfilled. When I brought the potato to her attention, she removed the plate from the table and muttered«sorry». No manager came over to address the situation, and I was expected to pay the full bill. Taking the entire experience into consideration, I would not recommend Deks except for the beer selection and I will not be returning.

Went with 2 friends and former coworkers as a ladies night. I’ve gone before for drinks and while the bartenders need more knowledge on the beers their pouring, it was always tolerable for when I don’t feel like driving far. But for dinner it was terrible. First it took 20 mins to get 2 beers, we never got bread like the tables around us did. I’m also pretty sure the waitress forgot about us. The apps came out 45mins after ordering. The Mozz Sticks were still cold, and the wings had to be sent back because they came with blue cheese. I told her I was highly allergic when I ordered. The new order of wings came out mins after she took the old one away, which leads me to believe they weren’t new… my friends ate them, i didn’t want to risk an allergic reaction and hospital visit. My grilled cheese was burnt, my friend’s turkey ruben was good, and my other friend’s chicken ceaser salad was forgotten, and the waitress didn’t even notice until she brought the food to the table. The Salad didn’t come out until 40mins after we got our sandwiches and were done eating. Nothing taken off, no manager or owner came over to say anything. We had to remind the waitress to use the gift certificate we had given her when we sat down. Dinner ended up taking 2 and a half hours, unless its a multiple course fine dining dinner, it shouldn’t take that long. Would never get dinner here again. ******EDIT***** Went here on 1÷27÷13 to grab a beer while my laundry was drying at my parents house. I had a Boogoop, which was great, but was poured terribly, half the glass was head. My boyfriend got the Allagash White, which was also ½ head in a tiny 20mL glass. We watched someone at the bar order a Snider-Weisse Hefeweizen, which looked like it was mixed with mud, and the bartender actually served it to the guy, when he complained she got him something else. But he told the owner, Dean, he thinks something’s wrong with the beer since it tasted like rotten apple cider, and Dean admitted there was something wrong with it. Why would he still have it on tap? The distributor will pick up bad kegs and give you a full return. And if he’s like that with his beer, I would definitely think twice about the food.

Here is the short of it– Awesome beer selection. Comforting food. Idiot service. Here is the long of it– Service is PAINFULLYSLOW. When I mean painfully slow, I mean my stomach was literally starting to hurt from how hungry I was getting. We were the only people in the dining room, yet our food took almost an hour and half to arrive. Our waiter was a space cadet. He didn’t know anything about the food menu or beer selection, and he never updated us as to when the food would be ready. At one point he asked if we’d like more bread to which I voraciously said yes, but I guess he forgot about it since it never came. I was getting ready to walk out, but the food was delicious when it finally arrived. I had the Mixed Wurst Platter from their Oktoberfest menu, and they were some of the snappiest sausages I’ve ever had! The sides of sauerkraut, sauteed onions, and spaetzle were done well too. On the other hand, the bar side of the house is wholly recommended– and unlike our waiter, the bartender kept on top of things. It seems to be a casual & low-key local’s spot. While I have to note the locals in this part of the island are a bit… strange… I can overlook it for the selection of more than 100 different beers, mostly bottles but some on tap. Overall, I’d definitely come back for the bar, and even though the food was good, I’d be VERY hesitant to eat here again.

I thought for a long time about what sort of rating to give to Deks, then i decided it be best if I broke it into two individual ratings, then take and average of the two. Dining Room: 3⁄5 Bar/Tap Room: 5⁄5 A group of us went to Deks recently for my birthday and to partake in their Oktoberfest menu. We decided to sit in the formal dining room area, because it didn’t appear to be too crowded, and figured we could always move over to the bar afterwards. 6 of us were seated for dinner, and when we were seated there was another table of 4 in the dining room, who were served their entrees as we were getting our drink order filled… Things started off well enough, then they kind of got… slow… We placed our order, while we were still waiting for one more person(who cancelled in the end), and proceeded to wait. And wait. By now the other table had paid and left, so it was just the 6 of us in the dining room. No one else was there. No mention from the waiter as to the status of our food, no updates on when it would be out. Then we waited some more. Had another beer. Waited some more. The thought crossed our mind that the reason we hadn’t got our food yet was because our the 7th person hadn’t shown up yet, and the waiter was waiting for him to get there and order before putting the order in. And then about 75min after we had ordered, giant platters of German-inspired meats arrived, finally. And I wanted to be able to not really like the food, so I could be OK with not coming back in the future. But the food was really good. The mixed wurst platter(knock, weiss and brat) was served with sauerkraut, spaetzle and carmelized onions. It was a little on the expensive side($ 21.95), as most of the menu seemed to be, but it was a special occasion, so for now that gets a pass. The wursts had amazing casing snap to them and you could tell that some attention certainly went into their preparation. The spaetzle had a nice crust on the outside while still retaining some good buttery chew. Even the sauerkraut was awesome, and I’m the kind of person who’s stomach turns at the smell of canned sauerkraut. I could go for another round as I write about them. So I’m left completely torn on the dining experience at Deks. While the food that came out was definitely worthy of a second visit, I’m worried that if I don’t block out 4 hrs of time, I’m not going to be able to enjoy a meal there. As for the bar section. Yes. Go there. Right Now. There aren’t too many places in Eastern Long Island that I know of that have Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian IPA, Southern Tier Pumking and Smuttynose Oak Aged Imperial Stout on tap, at the same time. The selection of tap beers is enough to get any beer geek excited, and from what I heard it is rotated rather regularly. Flipping the page from the tap menu leads into a bottle list that is easily 100+ from all over the world… Trappistes Rochefort 6 and 10. Don’t mind if I do. I’m sure there’s at least 5 beers on bottle there for whatever mood your in. I remember seeing Bud Light Lime on the bottle list. So if you’ve read the first 9 lines of the bar review and thought«No thanks», you should be able to have a drink. Why you’d pick that is beyond me though. I could see myself being a regular at the bar. I just don’t know about the restaurant. I don’t know if I have the time.

Awesome beer selection and very good food! Service is slow sometimes, but all and all it’s one of my Favorites. Main dining room is a little weird, gold railing doesn’t fit the décor, I prefer the bar area anyway.
