First time trying this place. Like the Chinese style Deco. Food are not that spicy compared to Chengdu taste. But also delicious. We ordered chicken fried dish, spicy frog legs, beef, tan tan mien, also cumin lamb. My favorite is chicken(not spicy if you are it eating up the chillies) and beef dIsh(I like the vegetation in that dish more). Cumin beef come with French fries, a bit odd but the French fries are so yummy w Chinese spices sprinkle on top. Lamb itself is a bit oily and not much cumin. Street parking or small parking at the back. Service a little slow.

You’d think that a restaurant called Sichuan No 1 would have that trademark mouth-numbing flavor and spiciness in all its dishes, but my family and I were a bit disappointed. We ordered the Dungeness crab and boiled pig’s feet(I think?) as well as some other dishes, but none of them really had that spicy peppercorn flavor that I was looking for. The crab was delicious, but it wasn’t Szechuan. There were only a few peppercorns in the plates(and I expect to see dozens of them in an authentic Szechuan dish!). Overall, a good meal but you can probably find better Chinese food if you are in the San Gabriel area.

5 stars for ambiance and presentation 3 stars for service 3 stars for food :( This is a restaurant where if service was improved, it can probably survive due to the ambiance and décor. This is because the food is an exercise in compromise. All the dishes look great and authentic, but as many have already indicated, the actual dishes were not as spicy as expected, and the taste has been modified for American consumption. This was especially noticeable since we just returned from vacation in Shanghai 2 weeks ago. Deep fried chicken with chili(2 stars) super dry, non spicy. Great presentation but recommending to skip this otherwise popular dish. Maybe try Chendu Taste for this dish. Lamb chop with cuimin(3 stars) — lamb was dry and chewy served with fries… fries?!? C’mmon guys. Griddle Cooked Cabbage(4 stars) modified taste, non spicy but still a good job. Not your traditional taste. Boiled Fish with Picked Cabbage(3.5 stars). Modified taste less sour than normal. However the modified taste is actually pretty decent for Americanized consumption. We enjoyed this dish. Braised Meat Shreds with Fish(3.5 stars). Typical dish at all the Cantonese special lunch restaurants they did a very good job. Goes great with rice which was our intent with getting this common dish.

Foods are not as spicy as they could be, service is ok, but we were sitting in the surrounded area and it took forever for the waiters to bring one the water. ps we waited 10 minutes for the check.(chickens are kinda dry) not recommended if you are into real Szechuan food

What happened to this place?! We came here for New Year’s, about four months ago, and the food was absolutely amazing. We came back today, and ordered two of the same dishes: lamb chops w/cumin and eggplant w/garlic sauce. The eggplant was cooked unevenly, so some were mushy, and others were partially raw. Aside from a hint of vinegar, the flavor was completely gone… it just tasted oily. The cumin lamb was the star last time. Today it was somewhat overcooked, mostly fat, and quite bland. It’s kind of sad that the french fries on the side tasted better. The last dish was something new… black bean squid. I was expecting it to be bland too, but I was wrong. It was intensely/overwhelmingly salty. And it was unevenly overcooked. The pieces on the end were burnt & crunchy. The rest was mostly rubbery, with maybe three pieces in the middle approaching just chewy. On the upside, the service was still friendly, and the décor is beautiful. This place could almost pass for a furniture store. It’s just a shame the food went downhill so fast. If the original chef(I can only assume it’s a different person now) ever comes back, this place could easily be a 4.5÷5.(and I’d happily come back to update my review) But as it is now, it’s kinda awful. :(

My friend and I were trying to find new restaurants in the area. We both agreed to not do spicy. When we saw Si Chuan No 1, we were like«Ohhh WHYNOT?» But we greatly regretted as we sat down and skimmed through the menu to find that it was UHDUH, SPICYFOOD(my bad). It definitely slipped our mind when we chose this place that Si Chuan was known for spiciness. **FYI the low rating is not because we chose spicy when we didnt want spicy, it was due the the quality of food** :Service/Atmosphere/Parking: Service was ehh… The waiter kept rushing us to order. «Can you order yet?» «did you decide?» every 2 minutes. Which I did not appreciate. Atmosphere, I’ll give it to them, probably the best looking Asian restaurant in the area. But you know what they say, the ones who need to put on hella décor are the ones who dont have the quality of food on the right level. Parking is never a problem in 626. In fact we parked right in front of the restaurant. :FOOD: ** I wrote this kind of late so my descriptions may not be accurate** Griddle cooked Spicy prawn with pork ribs: consisted of *shrimps(they were not big enough to be identified as prawns tbh), pork ribs, some wavy curly fries(?) [how random], and cucumbers?(again, i dont eat veggies so I dont know what it was). There was no other flavor than spicy. No salt, no umami, no sweet, NOTHING. Griddle cooked pork ribs: EXACT same thing as the one above except with no ribs. I swear that we ordered the chicken wings… and he brought out the wrong order… but we didnt care enough to ask them to change it. Same deal. No flavor but spice. Nothing came out of this experience except our taste buds burning in flames.

What the hell is this place trying to do making tasteless food and call yourself Su Chuan No. 1?! Where is the mouth numbing spice? We ordered crab, fish and frog, cumin lamb chop, pigs feet and cauliflower. All tasted bland, unseasoned as in not salted and worst of all, not spicy. There is no peppercorn in any of the dishes we ordered. Real Szechuan cooking have copious amount of peppecorns and dry pepper. The cauliflower dish tasted okay but again not spicy. You cannot substitute serano pepper and call it Szechuan cuisine! The pictures in the menu show peppercorns but none were in the actual dishes. The same deceptions are going on in Shanghai No. 1.

I love the atmosphere and i Love Si-Chuan Food. I went here with a Co-Worker. I had her order for me. the food is good and i love the seats, but it is NOT si-chuan spicy. Everything i ate was almost not spicy at all. The food still wasnt bad. They had some cute Asian chick walking around greeting people. She told me «Oh american you are so handsome» lol, she just wants my money, I love it

Chicken wings, bull frog, and lamb. Wings were cut too small and were a bit over cooked. Bull frog was cut too big and was tough to chew. Lamb was on the salty side. Overall the favors are really good and it’s super spicy; however I would not come here again nor would I recommend since it’s quite overpriced.(6⁄10)

It’s the same company who brought you Shanghai No1, so you know this restaurant will provide you the most authentic food and theme. Food: Definitely top quality food. Their crawfish and spicy crab are very fresh and delicious. Not overly spicy, just the way I like it. I also recommend steamed pork slices with glutinous rice flour, it taste amazing. Not many restaurants offer this dish, nor can make as good as here. Location: Very easy to find. It’s right on valley, right across the street from Lee’s Sandwich. Parking is right next to the restaurant. Service: Servers here are very professionally and attentive. I suspect they probably brought some servers over from the Shanghai No1. Because service at new restaurants are usually very slow, but not here. The restaurant is still new, so everything from the interior décor to tableware are very clean. Price: The nice looking interior design of the restaurant, might give you an impression that the food here must be expensive. In reality, this place is very reasonable priced. Especially for the quality of food that the’re serving. This is one of the better Sichuan restaurant on Valley blvd. I’ll definitely come back again, and recommend this place to all my friends.

Just find this newly opened Sichuan restaurant. This place is nice and clean and their service is top notch too. I really like their tomato&pork rib soup, spicy prawns with ribs and steamed pork with rice flour. Highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again.

Szechaun heaven here! Szechaun fried lobster is 17.99 per pound. Lots of dishes under 10 bucks so pretty inexpensive to eat here. I really enjoyed the fish soup with greens… only 9 bucks and serves at least 4. The dining table booths are fancy and the restaurant décor is refined old school dark wood interior. They have private little rooms and booths available.

This is new opened Si Chuan fancy restaurant in Rosemead. I came here with my friends for dinner. Very nice decorations and very clean, and waiters aren’t like other Chinese restaurant but patiently listening your requests. Food is in good quality, the Steamed Pork Slices With Glutinous Rice Flour, Fried Crawfish with thirteen spicy, Griddle Cooked Spicy Bullfrog so delicious and sunkist fish with tofu is great! Very soft and reasonably spicy and salty. Stweed Tomato with Pork Ribs Soup is my favorite, l really really love it. A lot of foods are delicious I highly recommend, I definitely be back here again.

If you love spicy food, then you defiantly need to try this newly opened place, Si Chuan No 1!!! This is now my new go-to place for real good spicy food. When you walk-in, the interior décor will WOW you. So elegant and beautiful. The restaurant also has a nice lit atmosphere with an open dining area. The staff was amiable and satisfactory. You have to try their specialties 招牌菜: Griddle Cooked sauteed crab in hot spicy sauce香辣蟹. Spicy praw with ribs川香排骨蝦. Crawfish in spicy sauce 麻辣小龍蝦. I also recommented Griddle cooked cabbage手撕包菜 & the sauteed cauliflower in spicy sauce生煸花菜. The flavors were amazing! The best I had so far. There are few dished are not super spicy and they are good for people who cannot handle the heat. You can always ask the staff and they will recomment it for you. Overall, it was a great first experience, and I would definitely come back here.

Newly opened Sichuan restaurant in town. Great décor, friendly staff, great service. I will absolutely return with friends. Personally, I love spicy food. But half of this menu is non-spicy, if you can’t handle the heat, you will still love it.

This restaurant reminds me of fancy restaurants in mainland China. The interior decors are very extravagant, accentuating the oriental ancient Chinese culture, with wooden booths, hanging lanterns, separated seating space to offer more privacy to larger parties. It was quite beautiful to see. The food though was a OK. Nothing amazing. They offer a wide variety of dishes not only from the Si Chuan area, but from northern Chinese culture as well. The service here was superb. All the waiters were very attentive and willing to help!
