Foods are good and prices are definitely cheap. However, service is extremely bad. Yesterday, I waited for a fired rice for nearly 30 minutes and they still didn’t have my order done when I asked them. I I felt lile I was pissed off…

Wanted to try something in the food court, since i never ate there. I choose this place because they had beef chow mein and crispy chicken wings with salt and spicy. The chow mein is $ 5.50 and crispy chicken wings is $ 5.00 but I paid $ 10.25. Strange, huh? I had my food to go which was great because they separate the sauce from the noodles. When I opened the chicken wings, I already knew it was a rip off because it came in a small box and I didn’t get what I was expecting. The chicken wings were spicy, so it went to my boyfriend. The food was good, I would definitely come back for the chow mein.

Xi Guan is a powerful little kitchen, and pretty cheap, which a working man can appreciate. There’s no store sign in English, but that’s ok, the food is not English either. Ha! For me, few things are better than having Chinese food surrounded by Chinese, or Indian food surrounded by Indians, and so on. For cheap AND huge portions, try Hi Pie Shau May down the road. No shame in that, it’s just that Xi Guan is a bit higher quality and more modest portions. Nice big menu too! Has been on my Bookmark list ever since it earned 5 stars from some illustrious Unilocalers. If you can get past everyone playing bumper cars in the parking lot – what is it with the drivers at this shopping center?, Xi Guan is more than worth repeat visits to go down the menu.

Ordered pan fried noodles with chicken and the wait was 45 minutes! While we checked on the status of our order, the man who worked there was annoyed by us asking. When the food came out, the noodles were deep fried, not pan fried. Zero star for service/attitude and 2 stars for the food. Meanwhile, our boiling hot porridge from Harlem’s Kitchen was wiped out on our table while we were waiting. Don’t come here unless you want a long wait and your business is not appreciated.

Whoa whoa! I don’t care if this is a food court! These are dirt cheap prices! I was in the area for lunch so I dropped by the food court in this shopping center. I geared towards this place thanks to Unilocal.I did take 3 — 4 minutes of starring at this place up and down to make sure this was the one. The place does not have an English sign. Food: Now I’ve had food in this food court before. I like allof the vendors except Har Lam Kee because their food has a weird after taste to it. The food at Xi Guan Noodle House is exceptionally good. I can’t remember the last time I was so impressed with a pan fried noodle. They must use a basket of some sort because the noodle was fried in a perfect round shape. I order beef stew pan fried noodles which had a few bok choys in there. Noodles fried perfect. Beef stew was delicious! Service: I didn’t come to the food court for amazing service. To my surprise I connected with the chef because he speaks my father’s dialect(something you don’t see too often in the 626). Very friendly guy. The gal who took my money on the other hand gave me a few eye rolls for no reason and was on the phone the whole time. Environment: You’re sitting out in the food court area. People are walking and starring at what you’re eating. Not the most comfortable place but for the price who can complain? Price: $ 5.50 for a freshly cooked dish. $ 5.50…$ 5.50! $ 2.95 for chicken porridge with the fried donut things. WOW… Food: 5 Service: 4 Environment: 3 Price: 5

I started coming here two years ago. The cook is a very cool guy and make very good fried rice and noodles. Since there is only one cook for any stir fried, it takes pretty long during lunch time. Also, price is very reasonable. I still go there at least a few time a month.

tip: lots of items to choose from for very cheap; when pick up for here orders, need to give the remaining $.25. Gold chive with egg on rice($ 5.50) is really just scrambled eggs with onions and bits of gold chives. Large portions. The menu advertises as 滑蛋 which is more a sauce consistency then scrambled eggs. This minor false advertisement is fine because scrambled eggs has more content then egg sauce. Lots of menu items warrant another visit.

Xi Guan(actual Chinese store name is Mei Wong) is a modest stall in the food court of The Square. Their logo doesn’t light up, but that doesn’t stop the«noodle house» from being a popular destination in the food court. The owners of Xi Guan are from Guangdong and speak Toisan dialect. They used to operate a Chinese restaurant in the Midwest but relocated to LA a few years ago. The food that they serve includes rice noodle, lo mien, fried rice, BBQ«over rice» plates, etc. These are casual dishes typically found at traditional Cantonese cafeterias(dai pai dong), not the fusion or Western inspired dishes available at HK-style cafes. I’ve ordered to-go from Xi Guan repeatedly because of their large portions(excellent value) and attention to detail(they will actually use less oil if requested). On Sundays, I come to Xi Guan for their bowl of wonton noodle at a special price of only $ 2.99. Each bowl includes 6 pieces of standard-sized wontons with shrimp and pork inside(homemade) and supermarket quality noodles. Fantastic light meal for only $ 3 including tax, perfect for poor college students or anyone on a budget. It is hard to beat this price as a similar bowl of noodles costs $ 5 or $ 6 at sit-in restaurants(eg. Sam Woo). Tips: 1. All prices on menu already include tax. 2. The noodle menu at Xi Guan is very similar to Harlam’s Kitchen in the same food court, but Xi Guan’s prices are lower. 3. Broth in the wonton noodle has low MSG added.

I came here on Monday to check this place out because I read about it in LA Times. Guess what– Xi Guan Noodle House is not open on Monday!!! BEWARE!!! CALLFIRST! Unilocal does not always have the correct operating hours for restaurants.

Grabbed dinner the other night here since Tasty Kitchen(also in the food court) was closed :(Be sure to check the days because all the restaurants in the food court take turns closing on random days. Anyway, my bf and I got the beef chow fun – it was actually pretty good. Noodles were nicely cooked and it didn’t have a burnt soy sauce + oil taste than many places seem to. We also got the eggplant, which I was craving all day. Theirs was covered in thick, stinky sauce. Eggplant had a nice texture, but something was off about their sauce. Anyway, it’s cheap, but they are slow and eggplant sauce was yucky. I’ll try to make sure to memorize the days the one I like is open!

We came here for dinner because Harlam Kitchen is closed for all of February 2013, celebrating Chinese New Year. Since I didn’t have a smartphone to check which restaurant to go to, we ended up coming here. I have passed by this place many times, but, it has never been busy, until today. We ordered the seafood chowmein and the beef chowmein. We really wanted a chowfun, but, they told me that they ran out of noodles earlier in the day. I don’t understand why they couldn’t go to the supermarket almost next door to them to buy some more. The noodles were crispy, Hong Kong style. I am going to give them credit for giving a lot of noodles here. However, I did not think their noodles tasted very good. The seafood chowmein was lacking flavor. They used imitation crab, shrimp, a couple pieces of fish, and a cut up fishball. The beef chowmein left a bad aftertaste in my mouth. After reading all the reviews, I think I should have ordered the wonton noodle soup, or the congee. The chowmein was not good. Yes, this place is cheap. I appreciate cheap places, but, sometimes spending a few more bucks will get you better food.

***The Fast and the Furious Crispy Noodle!*** Fast, Furious, Hot and Cheap($ 4.90 Lunch/Dinner)! Located in the food court, the Unilocal Monocle found this spot for us. No English sign. Imagine a couple of white dudes walking around pointing their phone at the shops while searching for something in a completely Asian mall. We did get looks. We were the tourists. Finally, one smile and it was dead center where the Monocle guided us to. Xi Guan Noodle House. Friendly smiles, kind advice, and $ 4.90 later and the food came out Fast and Furious. This steaming hot and extra crispy noodle with yummy sauce, your choice of meat and veggies was unbelievable in quality and quantity! I am a fan! If you do not know what the Unilocal Monocle is. You must find out!

Came by the other day for dinner. The store signage was all in Chinese, putting a test to my elementary school level Chinese reading skills. I ordered the Preserved Egg and Pork Congee and the Beef Brisket in Noodle Soup at $ 3.50 and $ 3.80, respectively… super cheap! The Beef Brisket in Noodle Soup came out first. The noodles were al dente and the soup had a strong flavor. The beef briskets had the perfect ratio of meat and fat! I like! The Preserved Egg and Pork Congee was super hot, and too much for me to finish. Reminds me of the congee on the street corners of Hong Kong. With Harlam’s Kitchen two units down, and the abundance of HK Style restaurants in the SGV, competition is clearly very high… which only means good AND cheap food for me!

Wow. This place rules. As others have mentioned everything is super cheap. Circa $ 5 for a bowl of noodles. I had the soy sauce noodles() which were pretty good. I also had their fried dumplings. My friend got the dumpling noodles. Food isn’t spectacular by itself but for the price. it is a great deal.

I’ll give them 4 stars just because of how ridiculously cheap everything was! I can’t believe they can make money from this… We tried the beef noodle soup and the wonton noodle soup. The beef noodle soup was not at all what we expected(clear broth, different cut of meat). But both noodle dishes were tasty and the portions were fairly large. The wontons were tasty and had shrimp inside(again, how do they make money?) The downside is I think they use MSG which irritates my skin: P This place is located in the food court in «The Square Supermarket». 2 noodle dishes plus 2 boba drinks(from another stall). and we had lunch for under $ 10 for two people. what a steal

Very small take out place inside a food court, as one of the guys said on here, their specials change everyday and is dirt cheap! Today’s special is chicken rice soup with chinese dounts for a flat $ 3.00, and fish ball noodle soup for another flat $ 3,00, of course cash only, and you don’t pay the extra tax money, whatever the price u see on the menu is what you pay! That makes everything they sell at least a quarter cheaper than all the other HK food place inside the food court. I bought both specials today for lunch, and I can only finish the rice chicken soup with chinese donuts, Which means the portion of the food is very considerable for a merely 3 bucks! Definately will come back for their specials when I don’t have much money but want to be full and maybe have leftovers for the next meal. Penny pitchers be aware!

What’s that you say? You only have $ 5 in your wallet and you’re starving. Well, let me tell you about a little shack called Xi Guan Noodle House. This place has good old Cantonese food for the dirtiest cheapest prices. Just yesterday you could get a plate of soy sauce chow mein for $ 3. That was their special. They also had chicken congee and a soda for like $ 4 too. I’ve had their chow mein with black bean sauce, eggplant, and probably some other stuff. But it’s all really good for the price. Nothing’s over $ 6. And you get a lot of food. They have a huge array of your favorite Chinese dishes. And the food court is nice and remodeled so it’s not dingy. Cash only!

I think this place is not open too long, but offer typica cantonese cusine direct compete with the local favorite Harlem’s Kitchen. Seem like the business is doing well that get Harlem’s Kitchen run for the money, offer a lot of dish, some of the menu is listed in the side of the store can be kinda confuse, i order the wonton beef brisket noodle soup, is good! but the bowl is too tall and not wide enough. Same or better price than Harlem’s Kitchen and offer more menu, it does take longer to get you food however. Forgot to take some picture, but surprise that no one review this one yet. I think many people in the nearby area over look this food court, offer true value and good food with almost no msg added and other junk you see from a restaurant.
