Good place for dim sum, well that’s all I know this place for, so good only for dim sum, as far as I know. There’s always a wait, so for lunch you have to show up a little earlier to beat the crowd. Everything is pretty much standard, nothing special, but more importantly nothing disappointing about this location. Nice atmosphere, clean inside… most of the time! No majors complaints. The service is pretty steady, there’s only been one instance where there was only one cart going around and we were waiting more than eating. Other than that they do a good job with attending to your needs. One of the better dim sum places in Rowland Heights, which is good considering the competition in the area.

What do you gotta do to get some service around here? Tuesday night dinner treated with little to no service. Tried to wave down a waitress and she brushed me off. 15 minutes later then they finally come to take our order.

Food was great, although they are definitely lacking in the customer service area. We had a simple question and the manager took our plates and food off the table and walked away. My jaw dropped, I couldn’t believe how rude he was.

Arrived 10a on a Sunday morning. Took about 5 min to get seated. People here all speak Chinese and assume you can too so be ready to say«huh?» And bust out your English haha Anyway so I ordered chicken feet, and the dumplings. Chicken feet were top notch. Way better than what I’m used to from the OC. Big, lots of skin, and flavorful haha. Sounds so gross but it’s so damn good. Trust me! 9⁄10 I then got he SHUMAI. Or however you spell it. It’s this wrapped meat thing with shrimp in it. Wow 10⁄10 on this if I’m comparing it from the OC. Big and juicy. I’m used to tiny ones that I can throw into my mouth in one bite but not these. These were the size of a tea cup! Attached a picture so you could see but dang. Huge shrimp in it too! Definitely coming back for this. Only downfall was that the service was somewhat unorganized. After we were seated, it took the ladies in the push cart awhile to stop by. We were sitting in the middle so they seemed to forget us. I’ll be back soon and will update my review. Didn’t get a chance to try the baked almond thing that everyone talked about because the cart lady never stopped by my table :(

Yes. There is hit and miss this place but you get far better food and service than other Dimsum in Rhts. Unless u want drive all way to Monterey park. This is a great spot to ease your craving without waiting 2 hours in line !

I tried going here for some dim sum and was trying to communicate with the host when he told me the kitchen was cleaning up for the night. Got here @ 10:30 p.m., place closes @ 12:00!

I like this place even though there usually is a wait. Much better then the one in Fullerton new capital. Service is much better here at least. Food is definitely great and again much better than new capital in the diamond plaza!

Their dim sum taste pretty good but they used lots of MSG! After the dim sum, we were really thirsty even we drank lot of water and tea! Probably won’t come here again!

The food was pretty good. I especially liked the walnut shrimp. Their souos are good too. Everything was good for my first time here.

My parents always like to come here when we have something to celebrate. Their dimsum is better than most places because its cleaner and there is more variety, but it is pricier. There will be a wait if you come near the holidays but usually we can just walk in without making a reservation. But if your party is large, I’d make a reservation to be safe. Service is what you typically receive at a Chinese seafood restaurant. The quality of the dishes is quite good, but you have to be careful of what you’re ordering for the seafood because the prices fluctuate. Always check the prices with the waiter before ordering. We ordered red grouper before without checking the price and it ended up costing more than the lobster! They have a special where you get a few select dishes of their choice for free if you order $ 35 or more, which is pretty easy if you come with your family. Another option is getting lobster or crab at a discounted price. I recommend getting the lobster at the discounted price or the free chicken or duck. My favorite dishes: House Special Chicken Soup — They ran out of this last time when we came around Christmas time. It my mom’s favorite thing to order. There are some herbs and some other mystery ingredients but dont question what they are, just eat it. It’s good! Pea Sprouts — They cook it perfectly here. It’s not overcooked and always tastes really fresh. Gotta eat your veggies! Beef with Macadamia Nuts — The beef they use is really tender and they throw in some snap peas and mushrooms. Really yummy and worth it. Lobster — They can have it cooked in different ways. We had it dry with garlic and it was really fresh and flavorful. It’s worth it if you get it at the special price.

If there is one thing about this place, is that it’s really memorable. The food was good, it was slightly greasy though(but it’s to be expected from Dim Sum). What I found really off putting was how rude the waitresses were. First, I had to hunt down a lady with a cart; a wave wasn’t enough. I walked over and stood in front of her. LOL Secondly, through our whole meal, they ignored us. thoroughly. Only when some of our meal members were giving grace for the food did they walk up and ask very, very loudly if we wanted anything. The other times, when we were in the middle of speaking, they would literally put the food down right in front of the person speaking. Their rudeness seemed intentional. Lastly, when I wanted to pay, I walked up to pay as our table had been thoroughly ignored. The lady looked at me, and literally snarled at me, saying in Chinese that I wasn’t her table. OMG. If you have thick skin, feel free to visit this place. The food is good, the service, laughably rude; laugh it off and smile and simply enjoy the food. We had: –all the normal dim sum fare –good herbal tea(complimentary with meal) –Chinese broccoli –a heavy dose of snark

Attentive manager; quiet Thanksgiving eve. No crammed tables, no long waits. The food was served hot. The lobster was covered with yummy garlic garnishes. The manager also gave us free rice and dessert maybe because we were his 1st customers of the night and placed big orders.

NEGATIVESTARS!!! Can we say God awful service… slow and unpleasant. First of all we were all excited to eat at this place, since it’s been awhile. Sooooo I been coming here for about 15 years now and I have to say the food and service has slipped dramatically. Honestly, if they wonder why they’re getting less customers… should really check your reviews on here… So I think it is absolutely absurd to wait 45 mins for a damn scallop fried rice!!! If the fried crab, French style fillet mignon, and crab soup can come within 15 mins? You bet your ass that fried rice should come right after or even before our other dishes. Well nope we waited an additional 30 – 35 mins and we also told our servers about 4 timess –____– the first time he said he will go and check and turns out they didn’t even put it in the system or make it. 2nd time I asked they said oh they just started. Basically, they didn’t comp our fried rice and was being totally rude and unprofessional… I KNOW I SHOULDEXPECTTHIS, BUTCOMEONASIANRESTAURANTSGETYOURSHITTOGETHER. In conclusion… NEVERCOMINGBACK!

My favorite dim sum joint in the SGV I grew up eating dim sum thanks to my aunt. She would always treat us to dim sum. Especially when it was her dads birthday. Everybody gathered around and feasted. Even if it wasn’t her dads birthday, every big and small occasion called for dim sum. Good times. Now that i’m older, it’s no exception. My favorite is the fried taro(love how it’s fried crispy on the outside and unsweetened moist and soft taro paste on the inside i could never have just one), fried sole with soy sauce(they fry it so good you could even eat the bone), shrimp balls(i love munching on the sugarcane), shao mai, fried red bean sesame balls and what’s dim sum without egg tarts. Although, the egg tarts here are tiny. Portion control?. I also like a side of flower shaped mango pudding. Wouldn’t be the right way to end meal without it. I used to love chicken feet as a kid but now it’s just human hands to me so no thanks. I also like the fact they have ladies pushing carts. Some things should be kept traditional. Either way, hong kong palace is my favorite dim sum joint in the san gabriel valley. Get here early or prepare to wait. They also open during chinese new year.

Atmosphere is nice, but look closely its pretty dirty, don’t use the bathrooms. Service is decent, don’t expect too much. Food was good, but pricey. Overall, we go when we must because of a meeting or something, not a place of choice for daily dining.

Coming all the way from NorCal, I have noticed that the quality of the dim sum here is definitely better in SoCal. The standard beef meatballs, the seafood entrees… the flavors are just much more tasty and apparent at Hong Kong Palace. From dim sum place to dim sum place in NorCal, all of the dishes tasted pretty much the same and there was no variation in taste or appearance in my area. Though the dishes look the same here at Hong Kong Palace, the quality was definitely much better. We waited for a good 20 – 25 minutes at lunch time on a weekend. To my surprise, as soon as we were seated, the entrees were served at a lightning speed. I’ve never went to a dim sum place with such quick and attentive service. If we needed more sauce or a refill on waters, these requests were immediately fulfilled. I honestly think the customer service and the quality of the food at this restaurant stands out a lot more than most dim sum places. This is a restaurant that I would definitely consider coming back to because of my first positive experience.

Came here for Fourth of July dim sum with the family and ended up all of us getting so sick from the food. When we got to the place it wasn’t really full and they had plenty of seats so we got sat down right away. Even though we got sat down right away the food carts didn’t seem to be ready at all and we waited for about 20 minutes just sitting and talking. Well our tea came pretty fast but besides that everything else was really slow, which sucks because all of us were pretty hungry. It was also 10:30AM when we got there. The dishes were cold and weren’t even hot for some reason. The lady explained to us that the burners weren’t working very well… Maybe after she told us that we should of just not have eaten any of the food. But we did and literally after having dinner all of us just felt so sick that it really ruined our Fourth of July. Not impressed at all. It’s possible that they had a bad day and so did we!

Horrible service. Came here with family to celebrate CHINESE New Years but it is very difficult to find servers to help you. You will not be getting cleaner plates and you will not be getting refills on your tea. The vegetables we ordered was not seasoned and overcooked, and the bbq platter’s pickled cucumbers and jelly fish lacked flavor. The pickled cucumbers just tasted like cucumbers while the jelly fish only provided its texture and blandness. The scallops in the fried rice tasted a little bit burnt, but I did like how the fried rice only had egg whites. The only thing I like here is their unique baked almond tea. The top is like a puffed pastry, similar to those pineapple buns you get during dim sum. The inside is a hot sweet almond milk dessert and I absolutely love it. It’s what a dessert should be and the soufflé at the top combined with the sweet almond milk made this the best part of my experience at Hong Kong Palace restaurant.

***DINNERREVIEWONLY**** Came here for dinner with the bf and his parents the other night. We were on our way to Diamond plaza for a joint there, but since this is closer, we decided to make a stop here. BADMISTAKE… Now, in terms of service, the service here is on par with most asian restaurants. Not too shabby, but definitely not the best service in the world. It gets the job done and as long as you’re firm enough, you’ll get the service you need. Moving onto the food, we were thoroughly disappointed. Overall the entrees were a bit expensive, poorly seasoned, and portions were tiny(even compared to other cantonese style restaurants). We ordered the following: Sautéed rock fish filet with veggies. 3⁄5 A tiny dinner plate serving of fish filet, with maybe 4 or 5 pieces of carrots and sugar snap peas sprinkled in. It was good, the fish needed a little more seasoning, but overall it was good. However, the portion quickly disappeared. Sea cucumber with Guy Choy(think of bitter boky choy) and mushrooms. The veggies tasted fine, but you really can’t mess up blanched vegetables. However, the star of this dish, the sea cucumbers were poorly braised and too tough. It needed to be cooked longer in a marinade for the flavor to truly seep through. It felt and tasted like eating unflavored chewy jello. Half friend cornish game hen. This tasted fine. Not too oily, skin was crispy and flavorful, this was probably the best dish. Since we ordered more than $ 35.99, we had the option of either getting a fried cray for $ 12.99 or choose an item(walnut shrimp, half chicken, half duck) for free. The bf opted for the house fried crap. Well…eh. The crab was heavily battered. Battered wasn’t seassoned well and tasted just like plan flour. The crab, you can tell, wasn’t fresh since the flesh was all mushy and not firm. Overall the crab was mainly better and shell and minimal amount of flesh. Overall, the meal was around $ 70+ dollars, which for a party of four isn’t too bad for a cantonese family style meal… but the portions were so tiny and the flavors were so lacking that it really made the meal not worth it. Will definitely not come back.

One time, I came here and the fried food cart was no where to be seen. I laughed and kept looking for it, but alas it was no where to be found. That was kind of funny. Sans that time, I really like the dim sum here. My family comes here quite frequently, especially when we have guests. If you don’t go during peak hours, seating is relatively fast. The wait staff is really efficient with handling your immediate requests for hot tea + hot mustard/hot sauce saucers. And BAM! Dim sum carts come bustling down every aisle. In out and done. It is also cheap, cheap, cheap. Two tips: –the shu mai with the corn is actually chicken shu mai and a lesser flavored version of the pork so beware of those corn morsels. –get the cucumber plate. The cucumbers are cut length wise and drizzled with a slight dressing. Sometimes they have them, and they sometimes don’t. They’re a nice, refreshingly crunchy counterbalance with all of the greasy items.
