Service is embarrassingly slow. Food is mediocre at best. Prices are high for what you get. They are going out of business for a reason. Tried it a few times and always had a bad experience. The owners should hire a new chef and a manager. People don’t go to places that they’re friends have had bad experiences at. I can’t wait till a new restaurant opens up.

This is not a good BBQ joint. I have given it two chances in the last few months. The food has been dry and tasteless, and the service is so slow and unfriendly that it seems deliberate. The place seems like it runs on Sammy’s friendships and affiliations with groups. It isn’t good, and you are not being sincere if you think that it is.

Been here a couple of times to get BBQ sandwich. It was always ok. Today, I ordered a «Pulled Pork Sandwich» to go. I also got the BBQ chips I always get with a large tea. All of this was almost $ 10 bucks with tax… Ouch! Took it home and the pork was NOT pulled, it was chopped in big pieces and looked like turkey… white and dark meat and did not taste good. I ate 80% because I was starving. The chips… They were awful. Tasted like a strong chemical and even smelled like chemicals. Only ate about 3 of those and got scared. Basically, I wasted 10 bucks and sorry to say I won’t be going back ever again. Also, bathroom was really gross. I’ve seen better at old school gas stations. Sorry Sammy, but your still a Godly man and I love that!

I stopped by here for takeout one evening. The portions were plentiful but the food was nothing special. I had ribs, sliced brisket and beans. All very under seasoned for my taste. The brisket was a little dry and the ribs, while fall off the bone, had kind of a nursing home mushy texture. The sauce was the best thing about the meal.

Not a great experience on a Friday night. You walk in the door and they start asking what you want immediately, they rushed us through the order process even though there was no one else waiting. You can’t see the sides because the glass or plastic is so filmy. The place was not very clean and we batted flies while eating. The sausage was so dry and tough, we couldn’t believe they were still selling it. We won’t be going back.

Was there at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. Met owner Sammy’s wife & son. Both were extremely friendly & made me feel like a regular on my first visit. Owner Sammy is a former US Olympic athlete d his memorabilia made for unique, interesting décor in this small, simple country style setting. I had the Saturday daily special which was a 3 meat plate with 2 sides & Texas toast for 11.99, a great value! I had brisket, sausage, & ribs with jalapeño bbq beans & fried okra. Ribs were fall off the bone tender(& I’m not usually a rib fan) brisket was soft & lean. I had their spicy sauce(they also have mild) which was very good. Portions were generous & my okra was fried fresh to order. Fountain soft drink tasted great. have a drive thru window & serve breakfast daily. Open til 830pm daily & closed Sundays. I also got to sample their smoked turkey breast, which was very tender & juicy also! Took another special to go for dinner later & to let my fiancé try as well. Will definitely be back!

Dry meat, wasn’t fresh. Taste was ordinary. I tried it once and don’t think I’ll go back.

5 star BBQ in a quaint restaurant. Interior is adorned with Olympics photos from Sammys glory days and celebrities that have visited. The ribs are delicious. The brisket is very good too. The fried okra is a must. Give Sammy’s a try, you won’t be disappointed. And if you are, say something BEFORE you leave. He’ll make it right. Good people.

Sammy is full of energy and extremely customer focused. He also makes some damn fine finger-licking-good BBQ. The side dishes are«ok» but hell I don’t go for side dishes anyway; I’m there for Que. My last trip is what triggered my memory to fire this review off. I stopped on the way home from work; young guy in the back was just pulling slabs of ribs off the smoker. O-MY-EFFING-RIBS… I’m ashamed I only got 1 lb, I should’ve gotten 2 or 3 slabs. It’s been so long since I’ve had ribs that perfect, I can’t recall it. Perfect smokiness, savory, salty, light peppered tender goodness. I also like that Sammy gets his sausage from an old german butcher shop in C. Texas(home of all good meats in tube form). A+ for Sammy and his joint!

I had the pleasure of stopping by Sammy Walker’s BBQ on the way into Rowlett after arriving in town, moving from San Diego. I must admit that my experience with Texas BBQ is «none», and this is my first venture into it, but this place appealed to me on two additional levels, above just the food. First, it’s family owned and operated for over 20 years. I’m an avid supporter of local businesses and am more than happy to give my patronage if their food lives up to expectations(which it did!) Second, the staff. Working at the time I arrives was the owner and his wife. They were very friendly people and were able to walk me through the basics of Texas BBQ(being a transplant). The restaurant itself is cafeteria style, which i hear is common with BBQ joints here in Texas. The theme around the place was pictures of Olympic athletes on the walls, but as it turns out the owner himself was an Olympian that competed in Weightlifting and Shot put. I had him set me up a mixed plate of Sausage, Ribs and Brisket. There are sixteen side dishes to choose from, which I chose the Jalapeño Pinto Beans and the Fried Okra. I enjoyed all the meat! It all had a very smokey flavor and was very tender. The Sausage was a bit spicy with some hints of pepper, but nothing that should overwhelm. The Pinto Beans were as promised and the Fried Okra was hot out of the fryer so it was crisp and delicious! All in all, I didn’t find anything not to like about Sammy Walker’s BBQ. It was exactly as I expected and I will be a repeat customer, that is for sure! :)

I have visited Sammy’s over the last few years. Since I live across the street. They have always been the go to place for fast food. I know they don’t have the best breakfast and they normally charge a different price than what’s advertised. He has a habit of rounding up prices so he can keep the change.
