Matera’s On Park

Delicious sandwiches for a reasonable price. They are really big enough to share between 2 people. The prosciutto on my sandwich has always been fresh whenever I get it. I’m lame, so I don’t really venture far away from prosciutto, but I’m sure everything else is really good too!
They’re also a little store selling bread, Italian pastas, meats, cheeses, etc. so stop in and shop around while you wait for a bite to eat!

Materas has the best Italian salads, pre made dinners, sandwiches, and small market for oils and sauces. I love their sliders for $ 4 you can make your own and it’s very filling! They also have great chocolate chip cookies that they make daily. Try the fresh mozz, broccoli rabe, pesto, and peppers on a slider… so good!
Great service and positive energy! I appreciate how accommodating they always are. I’ll continue to go out of my way for lunch here.

Go to sandwich place for the past month. The bread selection is weak for dinner because it’s around closing time. My wife loves the roast beef and my favorite was the grilled chicken with mozzarella and peppers. Their regular fries are soggy but the vodka fries are great. Don’t get the wings. They’re on the menu as an afterthought and taste like one.

Had 2 parties over the course of the last month. 1 was for a UFC viewing at my cousin’s house for 12 people on a Saturday night. I couldn’t be there when the food was delivered, but not only was the food dropped off, but the delivery man helped my cousin’s very pregnant wife set the entire spread up, start the sternos and uncover everything, and even helped her bring soda and beer up from the basement. Everyone there brought a plate home because there was ssssoooo much food. We then used Matera’s for our Super Bowl party. We ordered food for 20 people and boy oh boy, were we lucky that we ordered from Matera’s because nearly 30 people showed up! Chicken Parm? To die for. Meatballs? Better than grandmas and they were the best for 30 years. Finally, we placed a special order for a mozzarella/​tomato salad. The only mistake we made was not ordering a couple of extra trays of the salad because that was DELICIOUS. If you’re in the area, make sure to stop at this place and check it out. I GUARANTEE, you won’t be disappointed…

I used to like going to this place until I found their fresh mutz is not so fresh. Been their on 2 occasions on a Sunday morning to get a sandwich with fresh mutz on it. I asked the guy behind the counter was it fresh mutz he said yes. After watching him struggle to get a sharp knife through it I could tell it was not so fresh. I guess my definition of fresh was different then his. I questioned him again and after getting annoyed he said it was not made today! So the mutz that you sell is made from pollyo curd and after its made and refrigerated it’s no better then salty pollyo string cheese !!! The guy behind the counter said if I have any complaints talk to the owner.
I went back a few weeks later to give them another try, I thought maybe it was just that particular Sunday. Went to get 2 sandwiches with fresh mutz on them and asked the guy (different one) is the mutz made fresh today? He said of course ! Ok great that’s what I want, after watching him struggle to get a sharpe knife through I said here we go again. Asked a few more times he continued to say it was made today. Until the first guy who rudely came over and said we went through this one time before. It wasn’t made today!!!
If something is not made today it is not fresh ! Just because it’s homemade/​store made Doesn’t make it fresh! You should be ashamed of yourselves on trying to fool your customers and passing of day old cheese!

This is one of my favorite Italian markets. I have been here more times than I can count and truly deserves more than a 5 star rating.
My experiences are from ordering dinner, tailgating parties, catering, grabbing a quick bite to eat. All great experiences.
This place is awesome. The food is excellent, always fresh, and fairly priced.

Delicious stuffed breads, chick pea salad is awesome, eggplant and grilled chicken is fresh, raviolis are great. Vodka sauce is excellent.
They have a nice selection of cheeses. I am a big fan of the fresh mozzarella.
The desserts are very good. Love the cannoli and cookies!
I also read the negative reviews about Matera’s and they were very petty. Some businesses get very busy when they are that good and you have to wait. Give a business more than one chance before you decide to write something negative.
I can’t wait to go back! Another gem in Rutherford.

Nothing short of awesome all around. All the food is so fresh and tasty, the staff is incredibly friendly, the prices are almost too low for the quality. If you’re there at lunch time, get the sliders. Eggplant, grilled chicken, chicken cutlet, vegetables, sausage and peppers… everyone of those sliders is so good with the side of marinara dipping sauce. You get three for $ 9 and you won’t be able to finish all three. Highly recommended.

Great products and service! Cute little spot if you want to sit down and have lunch, many of the items are homemade and they are delicious! Can’t go wrong with Matera’s.

Every time I visit I try to talk myself into ordering something new, but always default to the chicken vodka parm sandwich — sooooo good! My husband has tried other sandwiches and loved them as well. If you’re looking for a hefty specialty sandwich, this is definitely the place to go.

Great products and food. Such nice staff. Amazingly thin eggplant — try their eggplant lasagna!

I absolutely adore this place! Food is extremely fresh, made on premises and fairly priced. The quality of the food is noticed within the first bite. They are known for getting freshly baked breads from New York and New Jersey. There fresh mozzarella is absolutely to die for. Matera’s serves breakfast, personal pizzas, sliders, sandwiches, salads, soups, sides and catering.
I can’t put into words how friendly and accommodating the staff are. They are really nice, patient, and very helpful. When i had a large order, the young gentleman helped me carry it to the car. The place is spotless and clean with a few tables to dine in.
On a recent visit, I ordered the 3 foot sub, half pastrami half turkey. It was absolutely delicious, it was the star of the event. It was very filling and stuffed with fresh lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. It costs $ 58 and was worth every penny, as it feed 20+ people.
This place is perfect for lunch, dinner, and catered orders for events. There’s tons to choose from and will satisfy vegetarians as well.

I called to order two sandwiches for pickup and was put on hold for five minutes. I was told they’d be ready in 40 minutes. I told the woman never mind and she said «yeah» in a condescending tone and hung up the phone while I was still speaking. I was going to have a party catered by them but decided against it due to the rude/​slow service. They also don’t have it together enough to get their catering menu online.

Went this morning to get a breakfast sandwich as my buddy told me they’re great. Ordered the steak and egg on Italian. Took them about 15 – 20 minutes to make and was just shy of $ 10. Got home to eat it — looks like all the ingredients were thrown on the roll, steak wasn’t even cut, and was full of fat. Only got through half of the sandwich — wasn’t even good. Won’t be back.

Service is rude and slow. They’re not as italian as they posture. Food is just ok and there’s nowhere to sit.

First, they have a very high level of customer service.
They made sure to make us feel comfortable when we walked in late. We were able to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed out. The staff is not ‘clock punchers’ .
The food has never disappointed. They provide many choices of authentic Italian foods. Huge sandwiches (big enough to share), great bread and yummy cannoli’s
The manager, Ericka is so helpful and lovely.
The shop feels cozy, clean and inviting.

Stopped here a couple of times for Saturday lunch. Never left disappointed. I usually have a sandwich, coldcuts are fresh and the bread is great. The rice balls are delicious, my son always eats one, and I take a couple to go. Kid friendly! The place doesn’t have many tables, but it has never been an issue for me, as most folks order food to go. Parking is a bit of an issue do to the area, but we’ll worth it.

Lovely Italian specialty store. Very helpful and friendly staff. They have some nice looking deli counter foods, for example stuffed breads, pasta salads, and cheese. I didn’t purchase anything, but I will be returning for sure. My friend ordered two stuffed breads under there Black Friday buy one bread get one free deal. Also they offer 10% off check in special. Great deal.
They have carry out family dinner deals and frozen meals for purchase. I think I will take advantage of this one day and then review the food.

Stopped I earlier this week and picked up the dinner for 3 – 5 people. I love these dinners. You always get enough for dinner and lunch next day. And great deal for $ 30
So decided to try the stuffed shells since I’ve never had those before. New favorite for the fam.

I was in the area visiting a friend when I saw the beautiful exterior of Matera’s On Park. Once inside I was in love with not only the family, food atmosphere, but the great attention to detail with the interior.
The selection of cheeses were excellent. I left with some balsamic infused cheese and scarmosa cheese, both excellent, and some octopus salad, also delicious.
Since I had friends coming over later that night I picked up a nice loaf of Italian bread and Matera’s On Park’s own Tuscany olive oil. OUTRAGEOUS!!!
My guests were ranting about the olive oil that night.
The staff was amazing and it is so refreshing to see a mom and pop market where you can tell that there is an actual chef making a home cooked meal for you. Such a great addition to the area. I wish I had one in my neighborhood!
