We were very impressed with this restaurant. The service was terrific, and the food unbelievable. We started with the arugula salad which had a refreshing mix of apples and walnuts. The flatbread appetizer was amazing. I had the NY strip which was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection along with truffle fries which complemented it well. Overall, it was very reasonably priced for the experience. We look forward to coming to Southside Steakhouse again.

We ate there a couple of nights ago, with son and his wife and my wife and daughter. Got seated right away as they don’t take reservations under 8 people.(shame on you) I got oysters as I LOVE them. Six for $ 18. The WORST ever. I would have been ashamed if I was the owner to serve them. VERY small, with two of them TINY. They tasted, well tasteless. Obviously way overpriced and terrible in taste. Two of our party got the vodka penne which they liked. Filet mignon was very good. Truffle fries were perfect. Prime rib was well cooked to my liking, rare to medium rare, generous portion and tasty. I think the entire menu is overpriced and the reputation of the restaurant is that it is. Good and attentive service, but no personality. Very good brown sugar/maple candied bacon appetizer. Food was all good, but they blew it with the oysters. Not sure we will go back or not. Miss the salad bar as well. It was our third visit and I’m not being blown away. I don’t like Table 24 and while Roots has great food, the portions are not. Rutland needs better choices.

Had a great dinner this past Sunday. My son and I both had the Wet Aged NY Sirloin. Awesome peppercorn cognac sauce. Cooked perfectly. My wife was less enthusiastic about her wedge salad with chicken. Southside might consider adding a couple of non-beef options. Ricotta fritters were good as was the candied bacon. A bit pricey based on portion size though. Had a nice red wine, but the list is a bit heavy on $ 90 and $ 100 bottles. Still the steaks were great and reasonably priced so we will be back.

Ambiance, location and service was good… However the food was terribly bland. The aged rib eye was cooked to perfection but lacked flavor — there wasn’t a hint of seasoning that it may have been aged in. The braised short ribs were tender but tasted and looked like they were cooked in tomato paste.

Absolutely excellent! We came in late with two tired children. Our server was very kind, friendly, professional and informative. Service was perfect and the food was great. We had 3 different steaks and a burger– all of which were very good. The au poivre sauce was soooo good! Dessert, coconut cream pie and bread pudding, was superb! The server also gave us skiing and snowboarding pointers, which was a big plus. The atmosphere was clean and warm. I would definitely visit again!

Fantastic place and great, friendly service. I visited with my teenaged son while on a ski weekend and stopped in on a Saturday night without a reservation. The restaurant was very busy but we were able to get a seat at the bar and were treated to attentive friendly service and a really well prepared meal. Good menu and nice wine list. Highly recommend!

This is definitely a restaurant for bringing a date since they have pleasant staff, a nice dim romantic atmosphere, a whole menu for drinks and wine and of course great food. So, I came here for dinner with a couple of friends since most restaurants around here weren’t open or really appealing and I must say I enjoyed it. Since it is a steak house, I figured their steak should be my choice of entrée. With that being said, I ordered the Wet aged steak sirloin medium rare, and my friends all ordered different steaks which included the filet mignon and the Dry aged rib eye steak.(Everyone but one friend ordered porkchop.) Each order of steak/entrée came with a side of choice of potato. For mine, I chose the truffle fries and the others chose the mash potato or baked potato. Besides, for the food, we also ordered some drinks which were a glass of red wine for me and some cocktails for the rest. The waitress was very warming and kind giving me samples of red wine to try before I ordered. Moving on to the food, I must say I favored my steak the most since it was juicy and had the best flavor. It had a nice pepper gravy like sauce which went well with the steak. I normally would like to have some A-1 with my steak but there was no need for it with this steak. The fries were also lightly flavored with salt and some truffle oil. It was great without the need of ketchup. As for the dry aged rib eye steak, that was the biggest portion and it had a bone with it. It was juicy too but not as juicy as mine. I’d say that would be a steak you’d want some sauce with and it was basically like shish kebab steak. The meat near the bone was the best part though. It had a nice ratio or fat vs meat. The fillet mignon, I’d say would be my least preferred steak. It was small and a bit too dry for my liking.(Maybe because it was cooked medium) Despite that, it still had a nice flavor to it. The baked potatoes came with sour cream, butter, and some bacon bits. It was very basic and baked to somewhat soft. For dessert, I ordered the coconut pie. It was good but i think it would have been better for me with less whip cream. Another thing I forgot to mention about, would be the bread and butter. The butter was placed on a plate shaped squarely. It was quite amusing to me since I actually has to question if it was butter or soap. Overall, this would a pretty decent restaurant to try, have a drink or 2 and have some steak.

This is one of the few places I’ve gone to for years while visiting Rutland to enjoy some good wine. I have been to this location many times under its former ownership. The food was always good but the décor needed updating. The revamp of the place is amazing. It’s a casual yet upscale atmosphere. And the food has been upgraded immensely. I would describe it as a gastropub, and I think the prices are very fair for the great quality of food. I ordered the turkey burger and highly recommend it. It’s tasty and not at all dry, which is not easy when making turkey burgers. The fries are very good. And I love the presentation of the food. I also enjoyed a flight of wines and was able to choose which 3 I’d like from the large list of wines. The only thing I would recommend is to offer one more sparkling wine, perhaps a cava, by the glass. They do offer a prosecco but a drier, less sweet choice would be great.

This place looks very elegant all things considered, all things being the location in Rutland, VT. After all, it is located within walking distance to a McD, Wendys, and a Burger King. It took them a million questions to get us seated, we had a party of no more than 12 and they kept asking how we would like to be broken up. We just wanted to be sat in the largest amount of people possible first, then use the same logic to place the remaining folks. We finally get 5 people to get a table first, they specify a «lounge» area but it turns out this is the same area as everyone else, then the rest of the people sit farther away in the other group. Also right next to where I was seated(in the first group), I see two tables that could easily join to fit our entire group. After this fiasco in this luxurious looking steakhouse, I order a clam chowder and salmon entrée. The chowder comes with this black side which I believe to be caramelized onions, as sit tastes just as sweet with a similar texture. It just looks very off since its completely black. This I give a full 5⁄5 it was amazing, slightly overly sweet but I’m rounding this to a 5. The salmon comes and that is doused in a sweet asian type sauce that I do enjoy, the salmon was slightly overdone in my tastes but that is because i prefer it rare to medium rare and super flaky. This was a medium and most people would be fine with this. The risotto that comes with this tastes a little too heavy and the avocado and salsa mixture on the side is very at odds with the overall flavor of the dish. Mixing mexican flavors with italian with american-chinese seafood was very interesting… I would give it an overall rating of 3.5÷5. I’ll round this to 4⁄5 because the server was very nice and food came quickly and I loved the chowder.

The whole steak was burnt real bad and they state that it’s medium rare in the middle as I asked, but the burnt part was so bitter that I have to send it back to the kitchen.

The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for! QUALITY! The food is just fantastic. The service is friendly. The clam chowder is to die for! Please do yourself a favor and spend that extra money to dine here. You will not regret it!

This place is really unique in the Rutland area. By that I mean there isn’t really another restaurant that fills the same niche in terms of a upscale steakhouse. The service here was great, and the people were very friendly. I gave it four stars because of the prices. It is definitely not a budget-friendly restaurant, but the quality is good, so in the end it’s worth it. Some of the prices just didn’t make sense to me though. Definitely try some of the homemade breads, they’re awesome. Also a great selection of wines. Given the chance, I’d revisit this place for a great steak.

I’ve eaten here twice. Both times lousy service! I was compensated last time and told 21 minutes was acceptable for medium filet at 36 bucks. No, not when people getting burgers next to me that came in after me, got their food. I’ll never eat there again and if you’re from out of town here, try table 24 for steak. The price doesn’t equal the product here.

I had a good steak frites and my wife got salmon over risotto. Both were good; the steak was better. It was nice and medium rare with a char grilled flavor on the outside. Waitress was very caring and attentive. Would definitely come back.

We’ve eaten here twice after skiing, and had a great meal both times. Attentive service, delicious steaks, burgers, chops, and salad(especially the Wedge), reasonable prices, spacious dining area, beautiful décor, and quiet ambiance make this a much better dining choice than the noisy ripoff that is the Wobbly Barn in Killington. This is the place to go for a sit-down dinner after a day of heavy skiing.

I decided to stop here based on other Unilocal reviews and because I was staying at the nearby Comfort Inn Trolley Square. I was incredibly pleased with the entire experience from start to finish. I visited at 7:45PM on a holiday weekend and got a table for two very quickly. The host was very friendly and seated us quickly. The décor was upscale and the restaurant was mostly quiet. They had an exceptional wine and cocktail selection. We each had a signature cocktail and they were great! I had a Bacardi cocktail and my friend had a basil sour. Both were expertly mixed and perfectly strong. Worth the premium price. We tried the ricotta fritters for an appetizer. They were much better than I expected for something so simple. The sauce served on them was a perfect pairing and not too hot. The house bread was tasty. For dinner, I had a Southside Burger, served medium. It came with coleslaw and truffle oil fries. My burger was cooked perfectly and was truly delicious. The fries had a hint of earthy truffle flavor and were dusted with partisan cheese. The coleslaw was home made and among the best I’ve had in some time. It was not overly sauced nor overly sweet and they used a mixture of greens beyond the normal cabbage and carrots. My friend had a salmon filet which was also perfectly cooked and paired with a tasty risotto side. Service was excellent and attentive from start to finish. On leaving, I asked the host for a good local ski shop open late and he was able to give me a few options and was willing to call to see if they had what I was after. This was above and beyond. The total price for the meal was incredibly reasonable and an amazing value. I will definitely return again and recommend this restaurant to friends.

We were here for a ski trip and lived in the comfort inn just cross the restaurant. At the beginning, we were not sure about the restaurant as it seems big and high-end(which makes you think it is a hotel trap). Husband persuaded me to go as he wants steak after skiing for the whole day. I am so glad that he made the right decision. The restaurant is beautiful — with a wine wall. Nice decro and classic. The bread basket is delicious, i.e. the raisin one. The portion is huge and price is incredibly reasonable. We got $ 28 dollar rib eye and it can feed 2 people easily. The steak is juicy and flavorful even without putting on any special sauce. We were joking that a steak like this would be charged at least $ 40 – 50 in a restaurant in NYC. I got the smoke house burger. It is delicious and well executed. I asked medium rare and it is not overcooked. the fries and cole slaw coming it is so delicious and it is not those normal things you get at a diner. The fries are parmesan flavored and the cole slaw has greens and no over-dressing. Service is outstanding as well. The waitress filled our bread without being asked and split the salad into two portions for us. This changed my vision about food in Rutland Vermont!!!
