Shortly after movie to South Hamilton I realized I was ready for a hair cut. Always wanting to support local businesses I was very pleased to find a barber within a couple miles from my place. As soon as I sat in the chair I explained in detail the way I wanted my hair cut since I was transitioning my style from short to longer. Right from the beginning I had to ask him to use a different clipper setting. I recapitulated my desires. Upon completion he asked me what I thought. It seems as if he hadn’t listened to one thing I had asked for. His comments were«I thought you would like it this way.» «I thought the part looked better here». «It seemed to be more natural this was.» Never again, John. Never again!

John has been cutting hairs for over half a century. You are in good hands in his barber shop. He is a quintessential American barber — nice, funny, knows everything local. Parking is rarely an issue. Hours are convenient, room is clean, conformable and spacious.

Went to John for the first time after moving up to Wenham from the Back Bay in Boston. $ 14 bucks for a mens cut and he did an awesome job. He is not out of business, just had his knee replaced and was out for a few weeks. The shoe repair guy next door to him retired and closed his business, not John. Great guy who gives the perfect cut, not too short! men should never have to spend over $ 20 for a cut!!! highly highly highly recommend him, he is OPENFORBUSINESS!

John is a super nice 79 year old barber who does a fantastic job! I haven’t seen such a good haircut on my husband in quite a while! His shop is nice, with lots of character. He gave my son his first haircut from a barber shop. Previously, his retired barber grandfather was giving him haircuts. My son is a little younger than John is used to(14.5months), which John admitted, but he gave it a try, and even with my son wriggling about in Dad’s lap, he still managed to get a decent looking haircut! We will be returning for sure! My husband hates the barber shop in 1A across from Nick’s Roast Beef in Beverly, but liked this one, which is a good compliment, considering his Dad cut his hair for 34 years!
