Loved the clam chowder. I mean loved it! The Steak Tips were pretty darn good too. The service was better than decent, and maybe it was just too darn crowded, because it took a long time to get our check and we only saw our waitress twice. Still, lovely place!

Quick breakdown: The food — Good french onion soup, nice thick layer of cheese over the top. My mother got the soup and sandwich which was a tuna with avocado and bacon. She said the tuna was great, good big chunks of avocado and great for the price. Her only complaint was the bread needed to be toasted more. The drinks — Pretty good hut not as strong as they once were. Service — Friendly but she seemed overwhelmed by a nagging table of older women who kept changing their placed orders and complaining about drinks etc so wesat for quite a while waiting for her to take our check. I ended up going up to the bar to have it ran after 15+ minutes.

Always a gem! I’ve enjoyed many items on the menu, but always look forward to the daily specials. Fantastic chowder and onion soup — highly recommend.

Warning Will Robinson! The food here is outstanding, but… the wait time for a table can be very long, the waiting area for a table is very small, and the dining room isn’t much larger. The few tables are on top of each other, so if you are a large person it can be very uncomfortable. There are three booths across from the bar, but they’re like gold.(btw, the restrooms are just as tiny, but boy are they clean). But you come here for the food. Several specials each day, and that’s the way to go. Only so many orders of each dish and when they’re gone, they’re gone. And they go quickly. So, the dilemma is fighting the crowds to get there early, or wait a couple of hours, when it quiets down, but the specials are gone. It is a difficult decision. The fried scallops, steak tips, burgers, fries and slaw are gems. All of their salad dressings are made from scratch and the spinach salad is a meal on its own. A true hidden jewel, but try to score a booth and the specials are so good they’re worth the wait. But don’t tell anyone about this place or it’ll get even more crowded,?

This tiny tavern is the hidden jewel of the North Shore! The bartender makes one heck of a drink, a lot of bang for the buck for sure! I highly suggest the steak tips & sea scallops combo! I’ve never had better seafood! Right down to the house made creamy italian & bacon horseradish salad dressing and the amazing(and enormous, enough for 2!) Mud Pie. You will not be sorry you stopped in. The portions are right on and very reasonably priced. Whether you are looking to enjoy a baked mouth watering seafood casserole entrée, a salad, some steak & potatoes, or head in for fried seafood this is the place you want to try. The menu is excellent and there is something for everyone! The owner and staff are really friendly and they treat you like family. It’s tight quarters in this tiny little building, but it will soon top your list of favorite places to go. 10 stars to the Weathervane, you’ll always be our favorite!

Great food, a very long menu for such a small place. Seafood is always great whether you get baked haddock or a seafood casserole or something in between. One of my favorite clam chowder — thick, creamy, lots of potatoes and clams! Wait staff is patient and generally friendly. Limited draft list but they do have a full bar. Great, fun, friendly local atmosphere. Casual rustic décor. The place is always packed. That can be the downside, too, as I have rarely seen the place without a line, and it is very noisy. A lot of locals and returning diners. No good for groups b/c of the size. They do not take reservations.

This is a great hidden gem in a very pretty location. The food was very good and presented well. I had the fried shrimp — 10 large lightly breaded and perfectly fried shrimp served with crunchy French fries. The mixed drink from the bar was well made– the bartender made certain to say she wasn’t used my making my usual but was more than willing to correct it if I didn’t care for the taste. The drink was perfect. The tavern is very small and packed full of locals. It’s definitely going to be one of my new favorite stops. All you can eat steak tips every Mon and Tues can not be beat.

Very small place and the waiting area is very tight. The waitress was very nice and the menu was a little confusing as I just wanted to order steak tips and I got a double order. Local place that is always full so it is worth the wait to see what it is all about.

We have been dinning at the Tavern for almost 20 years… not sure it is the help but many new faces… seems to change constantly. Paul one of the owners has never been very accomidating… Gary his brother is absolutely Excellent! Drinks at one time were great… good pour. As of late drinks are just not what they had been. Also on the last few trips in food has been cold… had a chicken and rice dish that was a special… honestly nothing special about… cold and Chewy! Come on guys step it up get back in the game!

We eat here on a regular basis when we are in town. The place is always extremely crowded and the wait is long but the food is top rate. The steak tips are always excellent and the seafood is consistently fresh and some of the best I have tasted anywhere. Most entrees usually come with a full garden salad and are reasonably priced for the North Shore. The draft beer selection could feature a few more local and regional breweries but I can usually find one brand that works for me.

My favorite kind of place. Cool vibe, great service, and from the outside looks like a place that Blackbeard would go grab a pint. It’s one of the few true to the old style Taverns that I’ve encountered as I’ve traveled the world. I could’t love it more.

Slowest service I’ve ever had. Here for lunch and not very crowded but takes forever to get the drinks and it seems as if the food will never come. The kitchen and waitress both are terrible.

What’s good: atmosphere, steak tips, rice pilaf, steak tips, friendly staff, open-face reuben sandwich, baked haddock, steak tips. What’s not so good: long waits for dinner, tables cramped close together(my wife sat closer to the woman at the table next to her than she did to me, across the table), uninspired beer list. At least they have Sam Lager. Go to weathervane for lunch and get the open-faced reuben sandwich. Amazing. Then go for dinner and get the baked haddock/steak tips dinner. But don’t do this in the same day, unless you want a cinder block sitting in your belly. Great food, but not exactly light. Beer list is fine, because Sam is always a good choice. But I wish they had more good beers on draught. If you’ve never been, you have to try it. If you’ve already been, you’ll be back anyway, so why bother reading this review?

All you can eat steak tips, yes please. Of the all you can eat spots in Boston, this is one of my favorite. I come here exclusively for the steak tips, which are worth the 40min drive for me. Atleast 3 – 4 times a year, on a Monday or Tuesday, I will be here stuffing my chew hole with steak tips. In my younger years, there was a liquor store down the street where we would grab beers and pregame in our cars like high school students before home coming. These days I save space for my tips. The steak tip special itself comes with one serving of rice pilaf and an additional side. I usually get the house salad which is massive and tells my conscience that I am doing something healthy. The steak tips come out two at a time, until you get to about 6 skewers then they bring them out individually. Medium rare is what I would recommend, as medium tends to get too chewy and jaw fatigue becomes an issue around skewer #6. Also rationing rice pilaf is also an important technique to avoid meat fatigue. I would avoid coming here with more than a party of 4 on all you can eat nights because getting a table can take quite some time(45min +). Overall a really great meal for people who like massive amounts of delicious steak tips.

Food here was really good, service was a bit slow but they were crazy busy at the time so can’t really blame them. Loooots of people there so clearly a very popular place, drinks were nice and strong(Thanks, man) and food was awesome. I had the combo of steak tips and baked haddock and it was crazy tasty. Really tender and savory.

Vegetarians BEWARE! They must do a lot of things well at the Weathervane, because it’s often crowded. But the so-called«vegetarian platter» is as bad a parody of food as I have ever been served. It’s a piece of pita bread stuffed with some innocent, tired-looking lettuce that probably deserved a better fate, and then. .. and then(I’m serious, now) about a half-a-pound of white, flavorless cheese is heaped on top of it and then nuked in the microwave until it resembles a pile of white, oozing fat. I seriously cannot understand where they get the cajones to charge actual money for this abomination.

There was a bit of a wait but worth it! Clam chowder was good, steak tips were delightful melt in your mouth good! Fries were better than most places make it. Fries fish was fresh, their soda was a bit flat though, and pinacolada was 95% liquor and 5% ice. Service was decent.

This place is great on so many levels. Heres why: 1. Great service: — The people working here are extremely accommodating and nice — My friend has been going to this restaurant for over 8 years. We ordered a dish and without realizing the manager was standing behind him, he said, «man they used to give so much more rice pilaf here». The manager responded with so much class. Not only did he apologize that they don’t give as much as they used to, he gave us more rice! This small act of kindness won us over forever. 2. Excellent food: — The first thing you need to try here are the STEAKTIPS. THEYKNOWHOWTODOSTEAKTIPS! The marinade is simply amazing. Also, the steak tips are extremely tender and just falls apart inside of your mouth. YOUMUSTORDERTHISIFTHISISYOURFIRSTTIMEHERE. — The clam chowder here is also EXCELLENT! It is extremely light in flavor, yet thick and hearty at the same time. I ordered the clam chowder bread bowl it was amazing. I would suggest that you order one clam chowder bread bowl for two people and then each order a dish on top of that. That is, if you can eat a decent amount. — The SALAD is FRESH and delicious as well. The garden salad with the HOMEMADE creamy italian dressing. Oh my goodness, it’s so delicious! I love it. Try it. 3. UNLIMITEDSTEAKTIPS? — monday night is unlimited steak tips! for ~$ 18 you eat till you drop. — make sure when you order the unlimited steak tips, you order your NEXT set of steak tips right when you get your first order. It takes a little bit of time, so if you wait till you finish your steak tips and then you order, you might get full while you wait. — MAKESUREYOUEATATLEAST5SKEWERS! Some things to be concerned about: 1. Space: the space is EXTREMELY limited! Though the place is VERY homey and warm, it is very small. If you’re going to go with a large group you’re going to have to plan ahead of time. 2. Price: You’ll come out STUFFED for about $ 20. Otherwise, you’re looking to spend at least $ 15 with a entre and a drink.

My mom and I went to this restaurant. We went around 4PM on a Saturday so we were promptly seated. I got the lobster & scallop casserole — holy heck, GETTHISDISH. It is very fairly priced(under $ 20) and you get tons of delicious lobster meat and big juicy scallops, under a very delicious bread crumb mixture(and probably a stick of butter). Deeee-licious. Mom got shrimp, looked great. Note: –Side salads are very big and quite nice –Free refills on soda Waitress was polite, albeit. how do I say this… the place seemed classy, the waitress was not. She seemed out of place at the restaurant, but she made good suggestions and kept our drinks full without us having to ask. So heck, I consider that good service. Would definitely go again, but based on these reviews, I guess I’ll make sure to go early!
