Alterations Express

I love this place so much! A really awesome gorgeous lady (I am blanking on your name right now, so sorry!) altered my dress for a wedding this past June. It was a pink blush/​baby rose bridesmaids dress that had to be let out because it would not zip at the top. She totally saved me because the dress is from
which ships from China, so If I wanted a bigger size it would be almost a month until I got a new size, and I didn’t know if the dress would look ok or even fit since other bridesmaids were also having dress issues from this website.
Anyway, this lady was so great to work with, the dress looked AMAZING on! I was so happy and relieved and so surprised that the price she charged me was so reasonable and way less then I thought since a couple other people have written that this place was expensive. Nope, this place is totally affordable! I have had dresses altered at other places in the past which charged much more! This place is so great, I will definitely be back! Thank you Alterations Express!!!

This place is the best! I was able to get my Bridesmaid dress taken out which was ordered online and done in a few days versus a place that had my dress for over two weeks and did not start any work. They literally saved me.
I Would recommend this place in a heartbeat and will be coming back for my future alterations. Prices are fair and in my case a lot of work went into my dress, but it was less than what I would of paid.

Brought my top here to get the straps taken in. Was charged $ 16 plus one hour rush fee of $ 8. Straps came out to be uneven. Will not be coming here anytime soon.

They did a great job on altering my dress but the price was extremely high. I only had under my arms taken in and they charged me $ 80.00! I got my dress on sale for $ 50.00. Go figure! It is not the old owner, Sergei but a couple of new ladies. I have to say that I rec’d my dress on time but will look for a cheaper place in the future. I took a pair of unlined dress pants in for a hem and that was $ 15.00. It was cheaper for me to take it to Nordstrom alterations. I really miss Sergei. I will miss having a good alterations place in the neighborhood.

I absolutely loved the quality of work and friendliness of the ladies at Alterations Express. I am a perfectionist and am very picky with quality. I brought in a suit that was cool, but a bit big. They made it fit perfect! I will definitely bring in any other stuff that needs to be fixed.

I have a place I usually bring all my alterations jobs, but decided to try this place because I read the reviews on Unilocal and thought this place would be even better because they are a small business and they only focus on alterations.
I never knew Sergei, but it seems like the great quality and customer service has left with him. I stopped by to drop off a coat that I wanted to have the sleeves altered. I stopped by before work, but I knew exactly what I wanted done to the coat so I thought it would just take a minute or two. I did not need to try it on and make decisions. I walked in, and there was a young gal pinning up some clothing worn by another customer. The clerk said she would be with me «in just a minute.» Several minutes go by, and I’m still being ignored while she worked on the other customer. The clerk did not bother to inquire about what I wanted, then she might have found out it would only take a minute to leave my coat, and then I could be on my way so I wouldn’t be late for work. Apparently she was the only one working there (she did not call anyone else out to help me), and apparently she thought it was okay to make a customer wait and watch her work on someone else for 20 minutes when all the customer had to do was LEAVE THE COAT THERE. I ended up walking out and bringing my coat the my usual place, where the clerk served me as soon as I walked in the door and did a great job on my coat sleeves.
It did not help that the place (Alternations Express) is sort of unsightly and ghetto-​looking. They might want to think about updating the décor. But of course, that will not help poor customer service.

Alterations Express has reopened under new ownership and is run by two friendly ladies. I had a few pairs of pants and the sleeves of a knit top hemmed.
I am going to preface my comments with the point that I know how to sew and usually choose not to alter my own clothes because I don’t have the time to do it. It’s kinda like changing the oil for your car. You can DIY but it’s easier and faster for Jiffy Lube to do it for you.
The thread tension on for two of my three pairs of dress pants was a little tight, making the fabric around each stitch pucker a little it. It’s not something you’d notice if you don’t look at the hem closely and most folks would not give this a second thought. The stitching on hems, however, should not show through the face of the fabric and you can definitely see more than a small tacking holding the hem in place. In addition, the stitching is crooked on all three pairs of pants. Again, it’s not noticeable if you’re not looking at it closely but there’s really no excuse for this.
I also had the sleeves on a knit top hemmed. The hem looked nothing like the original, which was a simple double row stitch. In addition to the thread tension again being a little tight, there are big holes where the needles punctured the fabric. And because this is a knit fabric, the holes are likely to become bigger over time. :-/​Finally, like the pants, the stitching is crooked, which is more noticeable on a sleeve than it is on a pair of pants.
It cost $ 11 to hem a pair of unlined dress pants and $ 12 to hem the sleeves of my knit top. The prices tend to be on the higher end of what I have paid for similar work elsewhere.
Despite the flaws, the staff is friendly and my alterations were done on-​time.

So sad to hear the news. I have been getting me jeans altered here since I was in high school and never had a problem once. I referred everyone I knew to go here because of the great prices and quality work. I have no clue where I will go now! This is a huge loss for the greenhaven/​pocket neighborhood.

Just had my first experience with «The Russian” — he is the MAN! He brought up my jeans up a size, and sewed in a patch.
he did a great job. Plus he has an awesome panting of a matador in the front, which screams, «im the man and I know what im doing».
In the Greenhaven area this is the place to get stuff hemmed or altered.

Sergei, friendliest tailor ever. He has a great sense of humor, pays attention to details and seems to have quite affordable prices. He came highly recommended by a close friend. Loved that he was playing reggae mixed Nusret Fateh Ali Khan and wore an AC/​DC shirt too.
