Broadacre Coffee

Eh… It’s a cute place and the service was alright up until I checked back to see if the latte I got was in fact a lavender latte. (I didn’t even taste a hint on lav in it)

Well, it says temporarily closed, so I guess I’ll just have to patiently wait like a dog hoping for his cryogenically frozen master to return.
Food: I came here with a co-​worker for a meeting and did a little research on Unilocal before ordering. Looks like the favorite is the subtly-​flavored lavender latte, but I wanted something more sweet so I sprang for the small honey version (
). Yum! I don’t think I’ve ever consumed a caffeinated beverage as quickly as I downed this concoction. The presence of the honey is detectable and when they say small they’re being modest. Their mugs are huge! That said, it is a bit expensive for what you’re getting, but I wasn’t disappointed.
Atmosphere: When I visited, Broadacre was a section of a larger building with a German-​style façade. The inside was more modern with brick walls, coffeehouse art, and spot lighting. They have a cozy set of couches that work well for casual meetings. I’m not sure what they’re doing in the renovation, but hopefully they’ll add more seating.
Service: I definitely got a too-​cool-​to-​smile hipster vibe from the guy working here.
Synopsis: Broadacre provided a simultaneously relaxing and trendy setting where you can unwind and share a drink with friends. Not sure what direction they’ll take when it reopens, but hopefully they’ll retain the quality of the drinks and the charm.

Not impressed unfortunately. My first drink had sour honey in it. So they remade me a drink that was an entire dollar cheaper hit never offered to give my money back. Customer service? No.
Then my second drink an almond milk latte completely separated into little almond milk particles and bitter espresso. The milk had not combined well at all.
Pretty art on top I the cappuccino but if it doesn’t taste good, it’s a no go for me. I’ve been to enough coffee shops to know what a good cappuccino looks like. This wasn’t it.
Additionally the interior smells. Smells like old people’s apartments. You all know exactly what I’m talking about when I say that. It’s decorated nice but there is no attention to detail.
My cup was brought to me, completely drilling in the plate. As soon as I lifted the cup there was espresso all along the bottom that had spilled over and wasn’t cleaned and all of that ended up on my white shirt. They need to pay more attention to their presentation, especially if their coffee and honey is going I be nasty. At least present it well…
I give them 2 stars because they have outlets under each bench. I appreciate that as a student. That’s the only reason they didn’t get 1 star.

Used to be Temple. Parking s bad around here but customer service seems to be average.

I usually drink my coffee black. I don’t tend to savor my cup. I’m a mom of three, I order it iced just so that I can toss it back as fast as I can before having to pull my youngest daughter off of the kitchen table. Drinking coffee isn’t an «experience» but as a means for survival for me.
But the reviews about Broadacre’s honey latte peaked my curiosity, enough to make the ten minute drive to see what it was about.
My husband ordered the Gibraltar and I (duh) ordered the honey latte. The Gibraltar was small, strong. My honey latte was juuuuuuust sweet enough for my taste buds to register it as a treat drink.
The space itself is sparse, large tables to work on. My little army and their shrieks were a bit too much for the acoustics in the place, a fellow patron was clearly annoyed. Perhaps not the place for kids, especially on a Sunday morning. Best to order to go. The barista and cashier were pleasant. If we were in the area, we would definitely visit again.

I finally got a chance to wear my large glasses while sipping an espresso drink! I’d been admiring the hipster glasses on everyone whenever I go to Insight, and so I finally got myself some smaller large glasses (the really large ones looked a bit ridiculous on me). Ok, so maybe I am a bit of a wannabe hipster… :)
But besides the nice quiet vibe, I’d actually say this place was a little less hipster than Insight. I had the honey latte, I asked for more honey because I like my coffee sweet, I probably should have just let the guy do his thing, because my drink then ended up a little too sweet, but still really good. It was a little bit bitter though, I think it might have been from the honey. Overall, it was really good, but I think I prefer Insight’s sweet latte slightly better. The couches here are more comfortable though, I think if I wanted to study or relax I might prefer Broadacre. Insight doesn’t have the most comfortable seating.
Another bonus is that dogs are allowed inside (boo Temple, Old Soul, Peet’s, and Starbucks).

I love this place. The use Handsome beans, and make probably THE best almond milk latte I have ever had, A 16 oz comes with a steep $ 5 price tag, but it is worth every penny. Clean, fresh interior with room to spread out, free wifi, good (really, quite good) art on the walls and my favorite barista in months with an interesting tale to tell and a smile. Made my morning and will now be my go-​to for coffee when in town.

Perfect place to lounge or study. The atmosphere is perfect for my taste. The arts and the setting are quite awesome. They’re not as crazy busy as Starbucks for the few times I visited this place. They definitely didn’t have the crazy amount of drinks compared to Starbucks. Their menus are short and simple. But, it came with great taste that I feel Starbucks can’t beat and I love Starbucks… I’m practically there everyday. Wish this place was closer for me plus easier and convenient for me to get to. The location is not bad but gosh finding parking is a female dog! Anyway, the service are always great and I always feel welcome.

I’ve put off writing this review because I really wanted to like this place a lot more than I actually do.
Stars for being clean, relaxing, friendly, and an all around cool place to hang out. I love the art on the walls. I love the seating, indoor and out. I love the paint and décor.
Stars off because the coffee just tastes terrible to me, and is expensive. As long as it isn’t burnt diner quality slop, I prefer my coffee black. Broadacre’s coffee (even the smallest size is like $ 3) is sour. I didn’t even know coffee could be sour. I don’t know if it is how they make it or what, but I end up drowning it with milk to make it drinkable.
As I visited this page to write my review, I noticed a lot of the other positive reviews mentioned the tea. I will definitely try the tea next time I happen in here, or maybe some of the specialty drinks. Please Broadacre, wow me!

Love this place because they brew coffees from other roasters. Because of them, I’m in love with Verve. They also serve Insight, which I love too. I first had a cold brew, then just today had a pour-​over. Either way, you can’t go wrong here. I can’t wait to try the other roasters.
Parking is a bit of a challenge and it’s a bit hard to find. Hint: It’s behind the Citizen Hotel.

Bitter Coffee and a Bit Over-​Priced
SITREP
When I want to engage in FREE late night wifi, this is one spot I love to come to! Located near the K Street Mall, this is a great launching off point before hitting dance clubs, such as District 30, or Social Mixing, such as at Dive Bar, or Live Band Karaōke, such as at Marilyn’s.
THE SETUP
Located near the corner of 10^th & K Streets, Broadacre features a nice open large room with lots of tables, seats AND electrical outlets at the bottom of the boothed seating spaced out in about 6 feet intervals — more than sufficient for a number of WiFi’ers.
THE COFFEE
This is where the ball is dropped. The Coffee Roast Blend featured here is supposedly from Insight Roasters, a great coffee roasting company located nearby at 8^th & S Streets. But it doesn’t taste anything like Insight at 8^th & S.
THE LOWDOWN
If desperate need to WiFi, I’ll buy a water — a decent coffee shop stop along the K Street to mainly WiFi. It’s troubling though when the main product line is not what pulls you in.

I’ve had the honey latte, and I wasn’t a fan. However I do like their regular coffee, it always hits the spot! Cool music always and they have plenty of reading material and comfortable sitting areas, i.e. the leather couches and red chairs in the back. .
I know its not related but their bathroom is always clean= clean everything else!
Cool coffee shop in downtown and never crowded like Temple. Staff is awesome and friendly!

Best chai latte ever. Better than the ones around the corner. Tons of flavor and super smooth. I was told they use stuff from Intelligentsia — which I’ve never found served north of LA (not that I’ve been looking).
A little slow around seven in the morning, but a second employee shows up around eight. Worth the walk for the chai. Can’t speak on the coffee and the blueberry muffin was unremarkable.

During the holidays, I was to meet up with a friend at Temple Coffee. Oops! I accidentally went to Broadacre Coffee instead and even ordered thinking I was at Temple Coffee. Anyways, I realized I was at the wrong place when my friend and I couldn’t see each other.
Tea:
I ordered their apple tea with soy milk and honey, which was listed on their specialty menu. I don’t drink tea often, but it was very, very good. I couldn’t stop drinking it!
Sides Notes
Ambiance:
It’s a quaint, little place where people can go to chill with friends or catch up on some reading or work.
Service:
I knew nothing about tea, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
Parking:
The big downside is the parking situation. There’s only street parking, and if you’re parking between Monday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., you have to pay and you’re only allowed to pay for a maximum of one hour.
Overall:
Broadacre Coffee is a great place, and I will definitely be coming back!

DRINKS
Their menu is basic but they do what they do well. They have some cool specialty drinks, not on the regular menu, but rather written on little cards near the register. Try the Apple bowl of soul — apple tea, soy milk, honey — pretty good!
ICED TEA
Strong black iced tea that’s similar to Temple’s. The green iced tea is super weak — barely any flavor. $ 3 for each is a little high. They only offer one size — c’mon guys, buy some bigger cups and charge me a little more (ok, not that much more)!
ATMOSPHERE
Quaint, set in the former Temple Coffee locale. Small, not much going on, but many obviously consider it cozy enough to bring a book or laptop and hang out for awhile. A couple of street tables. Also, close street parking if you can get a spot!
SUMMARY
Not some totally awesome destination with a ton going on, but good drinks and friendly service. I’ll go back if I’m in the neighborhood.

Impressive, Broadacre, very impressive. A quiet little coffee shop, I would have probably missed it if I didn’t intentionally come to try their coffee.
I had the iced lavender tea and it was very smooth and creamy; definitely something my tastebuds have not experienced before. My friend ordered a cup of coffee and it was pretty cool to see them brew it fresh in front of you. They also had a bacon chocolate donut that was very tempting to try (regretfully, I did not try it).
I will definitely come by again when I want to splurge on quality coffee.

Chill coffeehouse that is a good place to bring your laptop or friends for some good conversations.
Lavender latte (iced) — My friend suggested this drink and I was intrigued by it. Sadly, I couldn’t taste the lavender. It was a plain old latte to me.
An iPad is used as a cash register for transactions and receipts can be emailed to you. Cool!

I come here because it’s open later than a certain chain coffee shop that is closer to my house – but I enjoy the walk as well as the coffee!
Broadcacre is a charming space with a bit of a Dutch feel outside and a modern feel inside. It’s long and narrow but has ample seating on the sides. I’ve never seen it super crowded and I like that because I can alway find a place to sit. During the summer I love sitting outside and watching passersby.
I always order the lavendar latte because I LOVE lavendar! I asked the barista to kindly bump up the lavendar flavor because other reviews have suggested the flavor to be a touch light. I don’t want my latte to taste like lavendar syrup, but I do enjoy the flavor as it is very distinct. I definitely recommend the lavendar latte to fellow lavendar afficionados!
