Sad to see the Buggy Whip Closed. I had been to the Buggy Whip years ago, 20 years ago and then last year. My meal was very good, my date’s meal, Steak, Prime, was even better. Great taste on the steak. I think the owner put a lot of money in the remodel. He had plenty of help on the nite I was there. Service great, food great, I like the set up of the place, that nite place was packed. Has to be tough to run a business, a lot of overhead, payroll, sure you are taking in a lot of money yet a lot of money is going out, maybe third time a charm!!!

I am really sad the food was awesome, best Prime Rib in town. It always felt homey to me. I have lots of good memories at this restaurant.

The Buggy Whip is now closed. Too bad because it was nice to have a restaurant so close to our house. We liked to go there for happy hour but never for dinner. We were always disappointed when we ordered entrees, however the appetizers were consistent. Its too bad they couldn’t make it. But I can’t say I’m surprised.

I am so ticked off!!! I was planning to go tonight with my family and friends. I was planning a birthday dinner next spring for my husband. Closed again!!! What can we, your loyal customers, do to help Larry? We need you back!!!

CLOSED! I have loved the Buggy Whip for years and truly enjoyed them since the reopening. Unfortunately, they closed their doors again yesterday for the second time. Yes, September 15, 2015 was their last day again. I will miss Larry, Jeannie, Beca, Christine and Tallia back in the kitchen. Esperanza the dishwasher lost her job too… Obviously I know these folks and am saddened. Not gonna miss Steve or Joe tho… both a couple of assholes. They did more to run off customers than the good folks could do to overcome.

Love this place, but it is closed, again??? Went for dinner tonight and all was dark and a note on the door that said«We regret that we have had to close». I have to assume that since it did not state«due to a family emergency» or something like that, it is closed for good. Bummer.

At first when we walked in my wife and I thought we were in the wrong place. Nice dim lighting but a bit of an older crowd. The menu was very limited which actually was good. Ordered the steak for 2 with the chili. Service was great, food was tasteful. Waiter was very social. Made us feel welcome and appreciated. I would definitely recommend this place for individuals looking for a relaxed setting for steak and candied yams.

What a wonderful experience during a difficult time. Today we had a memorial at the Buggy Whip for a cherished family member. There were about 40 people present and the food was perfect. Ten of us has dinner there the night before and I don’t know where the owner found his chef, but they truly have a Chef here. Attention to detail is apparent and the entire staff takes obvious pride in excellence! Sure to please everyone from 8−80+. Best creamed spinach I have ever had; everyone raved about their food! The memorial came off without I hitch, with again, excellent on every plate. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this wonderful mixture of old-school meets contemporary cooking and excellent service. Thank you Steve and crew for making this day so special!

Getting Prime Rib dinner and Sirloin Steak dinner to go! Yummy! The restaurant has nice music playing and the AC on. Lovely!

Really wouldn’t give any stars but by giving one hopefully notice will be taken. The worst service & meal. Burger King would be a better choice! 6 pm and they don’t have 2 of «their most popular» appetizers. The ones they did have – shrimp – was awful! Service was pathetic. Steaks not cooked as ordered, prime rib was shoe leather. The desserts weren’t even tasteful. Absolutely the worst meal I can recall.

Visited because we were given gift certificates from a friend to try it out. I had the jambalaya and my wife had the prime rib. All the seafood in the jambalaya was almost inedible, and my wife’s food was something you would expect from Denny’s. I didn’t really mind a whole lot since it was essentially a free meal… wrong. When it came time to pay the bill they refused to accept them. The owner came out, very rude I might add, and basically called us liars. Now since we did get these gift certificates from a friend I obviously can’t verify their validity but it was extremely embarrassing the way this was handled. If you’re planning on spending $ 65 for dinner there are far better establishments in the Sacramento area, this place is really not worth your time.

The food at the Buggy Whip was perfect. We had the filet mignon, a rib-eye and the jambalaya. Our service was wonderful. My mom was cautious about the filet,(she loves the cut, but she’s been disappointed by OTHER restaurants’ thin, tough portions). She and the waiter talked about the cut for at least a couple of minutes, she would hold up her fingers showing how thick she wanted the cut to be, and he would reassure her that yes indeed, that was the way the filet was prepared. But to watch them, you would have thought they were negotiating peace talks. Both were very serious(no eye rolling, short curt answers. FIVESTARS to the waitstaff!) Salads were delish(blue cheese dressing was wonderful) The salad presentation is so — so – Again — the salad tasted great, but didn’t look 5 stars. The entrees rocked. The filet was indeed thick and perfectly done for my mom(medium = Pink, not too bloody, and she could indeed cut it with a spoon). My ribeye was enormous, perfectly medium rare and oh my god delicious. The baked potato — yum! My husband had the jambalaya — he’s hard to please and likes things spicy(hard to find in Sacramento) a little extra kick from some tabasco and he had to restrain himself from licking the bowl clean. The only minor disappointment was the dessert — the chocolate cake with ice cream(it was my birthday after all — and free because it was my birthday!) The cake and ice cream were quite lovely — however, the lake of chocolate syrup was unnecessary. Five stars aren’t quite enough for this place they deserve more for this great old school supper club. I’m glad it’s in my neighborhood and we’ll be back again and again!

Came here yesterday with my boyfriend’s family and it was just ok. There were mostly old people eating here which usually signals the food isn’t that great(I’m 30 years old and I was no doubt the youngest person in the room). I ordered the prime rib and it was 50% fat that I cut off. The food also didn’t seem that fresh as the lettuce was slightly brown around the edges and my boyfriend’s mom received a potato that had a giant black part inside. The restaurant was run down and was trying too hard to be fine dining. The prices were closer to fine dining, but the food quality was more like something you’d get at a diner. Don’t get me wrong, my food was ok. I just thought it was a little over priced for what it was and certainly was not anything special. The service was good and we had a very sweet waitress that was willing to work with my inability to consume dairy products. We were asked multiple times how the food was and if we needed anything. Overall, this is an acceptable place bit my advice to them would be to change the format of the restaurant to something more casual and drop the price. They would probably attract more customers that way considering the demographics of the area.

I was craving steak and was gonna go to Texas Roadhouse but didn’t want to drive that far so I Unilocaled a place and thought I would give this place a try. It was soooo worth it! Me and my boyfriend had the steak for two dinner for $ 45 and let me tell you, it was the best steak I had in a long time! It was cooked slightly pink, still juicy, wasn’t tough or anything! Cooked perfectly! Slightly chard and not too much seasoning that it over powers the taste of the steak! Just perfect. Also they have prime rib specials on Thursday and Sunday for $ 20! I will be coming back.

Fairly disappointing meal. Saw that they were open until 10 so we came in after the theater at 9. It was totally dead and the hostess said that she needed to see if they would still cook a meal. She let us know that they were«willing to fire the grill back up». Kind of off putting. The food was very average. My husband’s ribeye was thin, over cooked and very salty. My salmon was well prepared and the veggies were fresh and not over done. They did not have any artichokes available, so we did not get an appetizer. The décor is a little tacky, if this is a remodel, I would hate to see what it looked like before! The prices were a little high for the quality of the food, but not too bad. I remember coming here with my grandparents and I don’t think it has changed much at all. Not sure if that is a good thing.

SOGREAT, a classic American steak house. Forty years ago my Dad took me here. Now I go back, again and again. It’s been nicely redecorated. The staff is warm and kind as always. I chose the Prime Rib dinner: big beautiful fresh salad, with bacon bits and parmesan and dressing on the side in little containers so you can doll it up any way you want. From the new Chef, a rich delicious soup. Baked potato, with butter, sour cream, chives served in cups on the side to use as you like. A glass of the excellent house Merlot generously poured in a big glass. Tasty spinach casserole. And a big thick juicy slab of prime rib cooked exactly the way I love it. All flawlessly served by charming young Catherine. $ 19.95 (the glass of merlot was extra, but good lord $ 19.95 !? The bargain of the century !)

Glad I went back ! The Ceasars salad was excellent. I also enjoyed a well prepared ribeye steak. The service needs some improvement but I expect that will improve with time. Cocktails at the bar were on the mark and reasonably priced. I give this return restaurant a favorable 8 out of 10 score. I will return… Tom Bastion

This place is more for older people. The server seemed peppy at first then as time passed it seem like she just wanted to jump off cliff then be here. It’s that type of restaurant where food comes to die. As goes for the food, we ordered crab quesadilla, since it had such a great review. Ugh was like canned tuna. I had french onion soup, the bread was soak in the soup so it was all soggy and mushy. My husband had the jumbalaya which was one note. The wedge salad was the only thing appetizing. All in all its a 2.
