We were in Sac last night and decided to stop and have dinner here. My husband and his family use to come here all the time. Last time we were here was probably 25+ years ago. I don’t remember how it was back then but the hubby said the chips were just as awesome. So first off they give you homemade fried flour tortilla chips. These things are addicting! So tasty but you will get full so watch out because their portion sizes are huge. I had the chicken taco dinner. It was good. Wasn’t the best I ever had but wasn’t the worst. Now my husband had the rib eye. Omg I wish I would have got that because that was delicious. Everyone else had some sort of combo plate and they all enjoyed their food. I would give their food 3 stars. So why the 4 stars? Because their service is freaking AWESOME! Those girls were so nice and fast and kept coming over to see if we needed anything. That alone gave them 5 stars but I went in the middle and did 4. Seriously I was blown away by their service. It made me realize it’s been awhile since I’ve had great l service. Will definitely go back when we are in Sacramento.

5 stars for childhood nostalgia. I’ve been eating at Caballo since before I was even tall enough to ride one. What’s awesome is that the family owning this restaurant –never– forgets your face. I’ve been going here for about 25 years(since I was a lil’ hellraiser) and I’m always greeted with enthusiasm and the sincerest of smiles. Compound this close-to-home comfort with a fantasticly authentic atmosphere as well as delicious cuisine, and you have yourself a home run. My dad lived in Mexico city for about 5 – 6 years when he was younger, and this is his go-to restaurant when he wants to relive his own adolescent nostalgia during those years. The restaurant is filled with portraits and artwork of Mexico and famous historical figures from there. It’s got great music, although it’s been quite a long time since I’ve seen the Mariachi play there, which is unfortunate because they were amazing to listen to while eating. This is hands down my favorite Mexican restauraunt in Sac and if you are a fan of cheese enchiladas or chile rellenos, you will be hard pressed to find any better than at Caballo. If you’re a tortilla chip fiend and crave homemade chips and salsa, indulge yourself here. Everything is succulent and I’ve never had a negative experience(that I can recount). Try it out, I very much doubt you’ll be disappointed :-)

The iconic White Stallion painting/building is almost a landmark. They have been serving authentic Mexican food for decades. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Caballo Blanco is down home authentic Mexican food. One of the best parts of eating there is the flour tortilla chips they serve instead of the standard corn tortilla chips. I had a carne asada taco and cheese enchilada. The taco was one of the better ones I’ve eaten in a while. The tortilla had a nice light crisp to it you don’t always get. The enchilada wasn’t great but it was as good as any other cheese enchilada I’ve had before. Both my friend and I ordered the same thing and it came out to about $ 30. Not bad for a full meal with rice and beans.

Stopped in to pick up a few items, haven’t been here since pre-yelp, about 34 years ago, Yep that long. Anyway they sell their flour tortilla chips in these brown paper bags, used to be clear, for $ 10. They are so good. And perfect for a party. They are unlike any tortilla chips that you could buy commercially. A little softer but with a LOT more flavor. I served about 20 people and still had leftovers. I also got quart of their salsa and a quart of their refried beans. Salsa was good but the beans are very good. I don’t think I could make beans like this at home, and why would I put the time and effort in when I could pick up a quart for $ 5. Actually I don’t know how much it is, but the chips, salsa and beans came out to $ 19.75 I need to go back to eat there soon.

The food was very bland. needed more spices. Portion size was big, Free soup was on offer with food, however it came at the same time as your food. The chips were made from Flour tortilla, so eating too many made you feel sick with grease. I think the restaurant caters to the american public.

If I’m in South Sacramento this is where I’m going to stop and eat. The flour tortilla chips bring me in-and when I’m really weak I get a bag of the chips to-go. The salsa is fairly hot and it’s the perfect companion to the tasty chips. Carnitas…that’s my favorite no matter where I dine, and it’s a meat option in practically every dish they offer. The prices for the full meal start at $ 11, and includes soup, rice, beans, and the entrée you select. It will fill you up and after you eat it all you’ll be stuffed for the remainder of the day. I recommend the ala carte option-the entrée and salad. You’ll still leave satisfied because it’s the perfect portion. The price is a bargain at just $ 5.

Stopped in for lunch with a friend, Service was prompt and the people were pleasant. The food was disgusting. I just had a taco took one bite and that was it, it was greasy and the chicken looked grey. Seems like I could smell the grease on the chips as well. The food used be very good a while back. The prices are inline with BJ but the quality leaves everything to be desired.

The restaurant environment is pleasant and quiet. The staff is very friendly. The food is good, but not great. I went there a few weeks back for the first time. It is not my first choice for Mexican food in Sacramento, but if I really wanted Mexican food and my favorite restaurant was full, this place would definitely be a second choice, mostly because the staff is so nice.

Worst experience ever. Went here for a co-workers birthday and it was such a mistake. Customer service was terrible and the food wasn’t great. The lady in charge needs to learn to treat customers with respect and be more courteous. The orders came out wrong and no one apologized. I won’t come back and neither will my co-workers.

Used to be so great. I fell in love with Mexican food here. But they changed chefs or something, and honestly hasn’t been the same quality since. It’s seriously been a while. Guys. I want to give you five stars. I want to love you again, I seriously do. When I order a chili rellano, I want a pepper in there. Not some puny little green streak mostly hidden in overly soggy batter. It doesn’t have to be the recipe of old… but it has to be better before I take you back. Until then… T.

Best Mexican restaurant in Sacramento. Flour tortilla chips are amazing to start. I stick with either the chicken fajitas or beef chimichanga and it always hits the spot! Have been coming here for decades and always will.

The only saving grace to this place are the fried tortilla chips that everyone talks about. It was so good — and my expectations were so high because of the tortilla chips — that when my chile relleno arrived, it flopped BIGTIME! It was the worst chile relleno ever — Jimboy’s makes a better chile relleno! The chile doesn’t even come whole and is sliced up in strips, over-drenched in the egg batter that by the time I cut into the relleno, all there was to it was glops of egg batter and not enough cheese or chilis. This is not called an egg batter relleno but a «chile» relleno. I didn’t try the soup since it wasn’t vegetarian, the rice was meh, and the refried beans were mediocre. I’ll never come back to this place but will get the fried tortilla chips to go!

3.5 star experience at this restaurant. The attentiveness from the servers was a bit lacking. Friendly employees, however after our food was delivered, our server rarely checked on us. It took awhile until I was able to ask our waiter for a refill on my water, and after we got our check, the waiter never came back to collect our cash and give us change. My boyfriend had to get up from our booth and get the change. On a positive note, the food was good and it satisfied my Mexican food cravings. I wouldn’t be opposed to coming back here, but probably only if I’m close to the area.

Had dinner here tonight with my family and needless to say we all left full and satisfied! The ambiance and décor of the restaurant has a rustic authentic feel to it. i like it! The tortilla chips and salsa prior to our meal were outstanding!!(almost addicting) my teenage boys scarfed down the basket of chips so fast. but no need to worry because the sweet lady replaced with another basket just as fast! Forgot to metion a bowl of mexican soup came out which was delighful… by this time all of our entrees came out looking beautiful and plentiful. Each of us had a different plate and all were outstanding! This is a hidden gem that is not hard to find… ive passed this place a thousand times… im glad i finally stop by to have dinner.

When a restaurant has been in business for as long as this one has you have to think it has Good Food! I remember eating here about 40 years ago. would be correct. This place has good everything from chip and salsa to rice and beans. There entrees come with a cup of really good vegetable soup. This time I had a chile relleno and a beef tostada. The chile relleno has a light fluffy batter. The beef tostada was seriously the best I have tasted in a very long time! Our server was very engaging, and. There whenever we needed anything. We will DEFINATELY be keeping this restaurant on our radar!
