Some of the best Mexican food in Sacramento. I come here for lunch somewhat often and the food is always great. I haven’t gotten anything from there that I didn’t enjoy. Price is good, staff is really great. All very friendly people. They have those glass bottles of coke with actual sugar in it and not high fructose corn syrup, too. Will continue to eat here as long as I live in the area, and probably longer as I don’t mind a drive for really great food.

I used to love this place have been coming here off and on for about 10 years now. However on my visit today the lady that works here and whoever she is front counter/owner/cooks wife/girl help??? what have you was very rude when I walked up to the counter asking for a second beer she was sitting down eating a popsicle and the cook /cashier/owner was in the back somewhere so I guess because I interrupted with her break she just decided to be rude. I paid for my beer with a receipt and she asked me to sign it and doing so under the appropriate amount on the appropriate line and entering into 0 for the test she looked at the receipt and rolled her eyes up in the air and may decide like noise. When first entering the building I was not welcomed with the smile hi or hello the person which is the cashiers /cooked just came and stood at the register as if I was should just start talking which I found to be very odd usually when you walk into places business you’re given a greeting of some sort. Whom ever the lady is there heavy set with the long black hair needs to have a attitude check /reality check because somebody’s coming into your place of establishment for your fine eating or for your treats or eats then they should be treated with hospitality and good customer service. Especially if you’re a hole in the wall location that depends on word-of-mouth you should especially be nice to everyone that walks in the door no matter what day what your circumstances are what you’re going through in your personal life. I have never been treated so coldly in a place where you go to eat or anywhere for that matter. And I will not be coming here again my 13 yr. off again on again fascination with this place ends it today. The food is not that great, it use to be better. Bye Jalapeños, Bye!!!

I love it here. It’s definitely pricey but worth it! I feel like I get fresh ingredients, one of the only Mexican restaurants in town with chilequiles and there’s beer. Attentive owner, fast service. Definitely worth your time!

Carnitas breakfast burrito is good, something I’ve gone back for several times. Carnitas quesadilla(super with sour cream and guac) is also good. Not so sure about other items, the tostada wasn’t very special. I like being able to call in my order to go!

Breakfast burrito game strong. That’s what I always remember about this spot. I hadn’t been back for years, but recently I’d made it a point to stop in on the weekend for a breakfast burrito, to see if my memory served me correctly. I was right. I’ve had two in the last month and a half or so and they’ve been ! They are always full to the brim. However, if you have an onion or tomato hater, make sure you ask for the guac on the side. The bacon comes a plenty and they don’t bog down their BB’s with too many potatoes. I wish they were opened earlier so I could get them during the week, but I can’t blame them for not wanting to be open at 6:30AM. I might be their only customer ;) The perfect way to start any weekend, hungover or not!

Had the worst shrimp taco ever. The shrimp was plain with no taste. The lettuce was cold. Will not go back.

I came here with my boyfriend and there was no one there not busy at all. So the man who was the cook was a little rude and in a bad mood. I ordered tacos and my boyfriend ordered a quesedilla his came out burnt and my tacos sucked bad … don’t come here your better off making it at home or a taco truck.

It is one of the best places with good costumer service, good cleanlyness, and one of the only real Mexican places in midtown. I would reccomend it to those who just wants an old fashioned meal for breakfast and lunch. I hope you love it.

After looking for great great Mexican breakfast, Unilocal led us here. Small place and not so great inside but that’s not why we’re here. I’m here for great food. However we ended up waiting 30 minutes for 3 breakfast burritos while people who came in after us who ordered their food to go got their food first. I don’t mind waiting for GREAT food but this place doesn’t have great food or customer service and how they have great reviews is beyond me.

Wanted to try a new place and this popped up in the area. There is outside and inside seating, but it was 100 degree and decided to sit inside. Even sitting inside was only a fan on blowing at high. No air conditioning. It is a one man shop. Order at the register and he makes it to bring out to your table. There are fountain drinks and a fridge cased with bottles of Fanta, Jarritos, energy drinks, milk, orange juice and sports drinks. There are specials on the white board besides the menu and I ordered the crispy carnitas taco special. It came along side with salsa, chips, rice and cheesed refried beans. The tacos were topped with sour cream. Taco shells were freshly made and fried on order. Carnitas were tender and flavorful. Large jars of Tapatio sauce were available. A must have! I will come back to try more items, it’s just too hot!

First time here and first thing I notice is that this place is missing some life. Maybe it’s because I came in 50 mins before closing but the the vibe just felt a bit sad and empty. The two workers were kind, however. I just needed a quick bite so I ordered a regular asada burrito. I think I started eating at the wrong end of the burrito because it took me 3 bites through flour tortilla, rice and lettuce before I got a taste of the asada on my fourth. I’m glad the asada had good flavors because it was the only component that had any flavor. I read that the breakfast items are good so maybe ill give it another go. Overall, not bad.

Went to get nachos supreme and was told they didn’t have Carne asada so ordered carnitas with no guacamole! Guacamole gets me sick! The lady was rude! I get to where I’m going I open the container up and there’s guacamole all over!!! I can’t eat it! Waste of $ 8 won’t come here again! Sorry I left a tip!

So I admit I came here a few months ago for a breakfast burrito and was badly disappointed. But I tried coming back and I’m glad I have! Maybe they were having a bad day or their bacon needs work or something. Had the asada burrito yesterday– holy crap was that beef good. Had the carnitas breakfast burrito today– amazing. Everything is very flavorful and inexpensive. I’m glad I came back!(One note-nothing I had has beans in it and I know those can screw up a meal, so like with everything in the internet, take this with a grain of salt. Cheers)

I’ve passed by Jalapeño’s dozens of times, and although it’s not much to look at from the outside, the fact that it had four stars made me have to try it. I love little hole in the wall places with cheap, amazing food. But. this was not one of them. Obviously, the décor isn’t what I came for, but they could do better. it was dingy and the floors looked dirty and it made me uncomfortable. But I decided I didn’t care, and that maybe it would be better in the summer when you can sit outside. I went for breakfast, and tried the chilaquiles and the carnitas breakfast burrito. The chilaquiles came with salsa, sour cream, rice and beans. The salsa was super liquidy and pretty flavorless. The rice was kind of hard, and also pretty bland. Beans were runny and, once again, bland. The chilaquiles themselves were alright. I didn’t really like that they just had scrambled eggs mixed in, I think a fried egg on top would be much better, but the real problem was that it just lacked much flavor. Plus the portion was pretty small, most of the plate was the sides. The burrito was also pretty lackluster. It had potatoes, scrambled eggs and carnitas. It was pretty dry and the meat was just alright. The worst part was that I am pretty darn sure it was American cheese in there. Or Velveeta. Either way, gross. Maybe I picked the wrong burrito, but I was pretty disappointed! They might have some tastier options– maybe their breakfast isn’t as good as their lunch, but will I go back after having pretty lame food? Probably not. On the plus side, their prices are awesome. The food isn’t bad, it just isn’t anything to go back for.

Good service, decent prices, and pretty good food. Tried the super burrito and was bummed that it was mostly rice inside and something was overly salty — possibly the grilled chicken. Also tried the nachos and they were very good and made with nice, thick chips able to hold all the toppings. I’ll probably just stick to La Fiesta Taqueria for lunch and dinner but I’m up for trying Jalapeño’s again for their breakfast.

Jalapeño’s is a counter-service Mexican café with indoor and outdoor seating(eating outdoors is a nicer experience). The food is 3 – 4 stars but the place could do with a cleaning up! The owner & cook has run Jalapeño’s for more than 30 years, and he’s friendlier than your first impression might indicate. Roundup: Food: 3 – 4 — Quick, simple, flavorful! Service: 3 — You order at counter, they’ll bring it out. Setting: 3 — 2 inside, 3+ outside. Value: 3.5– decent prices, chips are extra. Date worthy: 3 — C’mon, live a little! Hit this during a bike ride but not for dinner. Dogs: Guessing they’re OK on the patio.
